First legal street ride was a CL350 Honda in 1972. I was 20. I rode a friend's Allstate when I was 14. Built a Briggs and Stratton powered mini-bike when I was 15. Killed it when I was 16. First new bike was a CB750 when I was 22 and in the Army.

I don't know if this is Southern or not since there are muskrats up North as well. Baked Muskrat Use only hams and shoulders. When skinning animals, take care not to cut into the musk glands on lower belly. Also remove white stringy tissue from inside each leg. Parboil with 1 sliced onion 30 minutes. Drain, flour the pieces, and put in baking dish. Season with salt and pepper, and cover with 8 slices of bacon. Put ¼ cup vinegar and ¼ cup water in pan, and roast until tender. Baste frequently with liquor forming in pan. One muskrat serves 3 or 4.

I seriously doubt that you could get both bikes on a 4 x 8 trailer. At three foot wide and more than eight feet long, the Venture would take up most of a 4 x 8 trailer by itself. Where you gonna put the Honda?

Driveline issues aside; I think you will need a ramp substantially longer then three or four feet if the front wheel is going to be as high as the one pictured. As several have mentioned, these motos are very heavy and quite difficult to push up a ramp AND keep it from tipping. A short ramp of 3-4 feet would be fairly steep even if the wheel needed to be raised just one foot. I've not done it but perhaps figure out a way to tow it rear wheel first, ie. back it up the ramp. Lock the handlebars straight ahead. Good Luck!

Powder coating wheels

To remove chrome chemically is to remove the plating with the reverse process of when it was plated, ie. electrically/electrolysis. Chemical dipping as in dipping for paint removal will not remove the chrome. That's why Freebird says to take it to a chrome plater to "de-plate". -

Is the oil lock required to work properly (damaged) if the anti dive is rendered inoperable? It was my understanding that a functioning oil lock was only required if the EAND was desired. If EAND is disconnected then a functioning oil lock is moot? -
And like Gary and Brian, I had a hell of a time getting that pinstriping off. I settled on a hair dryer (hot, hot, hot) to get the tape started coming and then started slowly pulling, heating more as needed. And after I got it off it left a groove where it had been AND adhesive that was not removable with any solvent I tried. I ended up using a pink Pearl eraser to rub off the residual adhesive. The groove remained.

On my 1983 Standard the pinstriping on the fairing was under a very thick coat of clear coat...on the right side; on the left side not so much. The pinstriping on the fender was not under clear coat. The pinstriping on the saddlebags was.

I've never seen it before, but your handlebars are on backwards! Did you do that? Here is a pic of a normal handlebar setup: -
I replaced my '83 stock horns with horns from AutoZone. I used a high tone universal (FIAMM # BH101HC, AutoZone # 006073) and a low tone "Freeway Blaster" (FIAMM # BH103FBL, AutoZone # 345230) 132db! I initially hooked them up using the stock wiring and connectors, as well as the stock brackets. The high tone universal would sound off, but the Freeway Blaster would just "thunk". After determining that the Blaster was in fact good (by connecting straight to battery with jumpers), I determined that the setup was too much for the stock wiring and switch. Not wishing to burn up the switch (very expensive and difficult to replace), I wired in a horn relay and new 14ga wire to power the horns. As for the "trigger", I simply plugged in the stock horn connectors to the relay. A new 14ga wire from the battery to the relay provides the juice to fire the horns. The provided short wire was used to ground the horns. I was even able to retain the chrome covers from the stock horns and use them to cover the back side of the new horns. Now, the bike sounds just like my Chevy Silverado truck! I'm even considering utilizing the setup on my Acura Legend. (How can such a fine car have such wimpy "beep-beep" horns?!)

It (Interstate speed instability) is most certainly NOT the nature of the beast! None of my three Ventures ever exhibited any instability at any highway speed or beyond. There is a bit of slow weaving at 110 mph with my '83 but nothing but solid straight even at that speed on my '90. It is decidedly difficult to diagnose handling issues from afar. What you call instability may be another man's "wobble", for instance, and that term usually generates a whole different set of suggestions. But your comment that it feels like riding on a bridge grate is pretty succinct and helpful. I would definitely rexamine the head bearings for "catches" and/or a too tight condition. Please remember that there is undoubtedly nearly thirty year old grease in there. Also, my experience with head bearings on Yamaha models has shown that the assemblers used a sparce amount of grease. It is not inconceivable that the bearings and races are rusty and dry. Florida salt air is known to be corrosive, correct? Take these preceding replies to your post as places to look for a defect in your bike, not as a blanket condemnation of the bike. Reconsider the suggestions from these Venture experts.

Sure, Jack I started by obtaining Earl's Skydoc-17 fuse block upgrade. He sells that as a kit for $60 shipped. (Though in this application, I did not use several of the components he provides in his kit.) Then I went to NAPA and picked up the auxiliary fuse block for $17. I spent another ten bucks or so for ATC fuses. I already had the relay, wires, heat shrink tubing, connectors and terminal strip, but perhaps another 15 bucks for those sundries. A couple hours of labor (a fair amount of head scratching and tentative component placement, soldering, fabricating wires, etc.) If one is doing Skydoc's kit alone, labor time would be about 15 minutes.

Whenever I've gone to Canada, Mexico, Germany or any foreign country, I always exchanged US$ for the local currency. It seems pretty arrogant of Americans to expect the natives to accept our currency. No business in my town would take THEIR currency, why should they take mine?

Thank you for the nice comments, guys. BTW, I have an original 1990 Yamaha Venture Royale fuse block with cover. Very Good condition. All clips strong and shiny. Mostly correct glass tube fuses included. Wires clipped short right at the clip crimps. Free to a good home.

Randy, I think the clock is on all the time on just the 1983 model. His 1984 would not show the clock when key is off. I'm of the opinion that one of the buttons is stuck down. Has happened before. Or possibly faulty solder joints. Of course, THAT'S never happened before on these bikes:whistling:. -
There are those 1 per centers that have done pretty well during this depression (I typed it correctly) and will always spend outrageous sums for stuff that the rest of us have only dreamed about. They just sell back and forth to each other, "...but by God, I'm not going to sell for less than I paid."

But seriously, Andy, I've never heard of such a thing for a First Gen. Sounds like a chip is screwed. Short of replacing the entire "meter", I don't know how to correct this. Perhaps some electronic guru will be able to identify the clock IC and recommend a replacement to get you "regular".
