It would be cool if someone could do a valve check as a demo so those of us who what to try and tackle this job can get some instruction time. And no I am not volenteering my bike. After all I still have to get back home.

Mac's drive in, Waterloo ny. Nothing special about the food. It's a 50's/60's style drive in.Cool place to hang out. Great root beer. Always some classic cars there. A lot of bikers to. They still hang the food tray on the window. Brings back memories. -

Starting in 2010 HD started putting the cats in the head pipes because most people were pulling they're mufflers to go to after market mufflers with out cats. So the 2012 mufflers should not have cats.

Run,Run away now, while you still have a chance! The people here are not right in the head:shock3: Welcome to the nut house.

I have the same mufflers, with the same problem, way to loud. I do believe they are sampsons. My set doesn't have any markings either. Strange that there not stamped. I went to a set of 05 RK's.

I just did mine. Removing the fairing is the biggest pain. The forks are pretty simple. you really should us a impact wrench to remove the drain bolt. I stripped the head on one trying to do it with just an allen wrench. Had to pound a over sized SAE alllen wrench into the head then used the impact wrench on it. came right out. Change everything while you have them opened up. Next time I won't completly remove the fairing, easyier to just hang it with a strap from a rafter,or hook. This way you don't have to remove all the wiring. much easyier to reinstall.

RK Exhausts
steamer replied to hunter 1500's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Its my understanding that in 2010 they stopped putting the cats in the mufflers because everyone was removing them for after markets. The cats are now in the head pipes. If you look inside from the motor end of the muffler you can see the honey comb, thats the converter. some people have installed them with the converters and said they haven't had any problems:confused24: -

I installed a brand new set of 05's on the trike. They sound great, much louder then the stock mufflers and not near as loud as the fishtails that came on it. If I lower the idle a little you can hear the potato potato sound of a harley. Also elimanated the popping. These motors do need back pressure. Oh, they only cost $50 bucks. You can find them all over CraigsList. -
