Ok, I pulled the forks. I have not pulled them apart yet. waiting on new seals and spring kit. I did notice some very faint, very had to see scratches just above the dust cover.is this normal? Can they be polished out? Or just leave well enough alone?

how do you remove the inner fairing?

Never mind, brain farts over. Sometimes you just have to walk away for a while. found the two bolts I didn't see right in front of me the first 30 times I looked. -

I like you first idea better. I was planning on replacing the fork seal and install progressive springs but after getting in side and seeing all those wires and stuff, maybe I'll just put it back together and take it to the dealer. -
Time to get serious. Just ordered the progressive springs and OEM seals. I will start tear down tomorrow. I'm going to re-pack steering neck bearings while in there. If anyone can think of anything else I should do while its apart, this would be a good time for your input. What oil should i use? What grease for the steering bearings? Thanks for your input.

I did this to your bike when it was my bike, back when it had the custom mufflers on it. It only made it worse.

Went for a nice 5 hour ride today. I notice a little oil on the left brake caliper. Sure enough Its a leaking fork seal. So I say to Robin, I'm going to start tearing down the front fairing so I can pull the forks. She said take it to Lane Yamaha. I said how come, I can do this. She said... Not if I want to stay married:think: See my problem. Anyone know what it will cost to have the dealer do this job?

Both of my RSV's had after market mufflers, both would pop, sometimes it sounded like a shot gun. I went to stock mufflers on the sliver 99 and the popping when away. The 99 RSV trike had sampson fish tails and had some light popping, also way to loud. Whet to 05 HD RK mufflers, sound great and no popping. Also notice on todays ride that I'm getting better gas milages. I'm going to have to keep an eye on this to see if it continues to get better milage. It seems these motors like a little back pressure.

Come on KIC, don't throw in the towel. God knows we don't want to see you on a 2nd gen. Seriously this is probably not as big a problem as you think it is. Follow the force, let the force guide you. In other word, listen to the advise of your fellow VR's. It will work out. -
3 qts will be fine. It's more then enough oil, the trike doesn't lean over like the bike does, so the pump is alway submerged.
-
Thanks Don. The biggest problem with the air bags is they leak down over a couple days. You have to pump them back up every couple days. To many conections to deal with.
-
Don, isn't your conversion a motortrike? If so let me know how the progressive air shocks work out. I'm not crazy about the air bag system I have now.
-
Must be magic. There I wasn't, Now I is.
-
That can't be it, I'm not there either.
-
This is the problem we we're talking about over on trike talk. If you go with manufacter spec's there may not be enough oil in the rear to properly lube the axle bearings.
-
Since your rearend is independent suspenion I recommend you go with what ever Hannigan calls for. I have a solid axcel rearend. They may have a reason for not filling all the way to the fill hole. I think your right to think the oil on your rearend came from somewhere else.
-
omg! omg!omg! I don't feel so good. Please make it go away....aaaaarrrrrggg!!!!
-
Ok, we had a very long and intense discussion on trike talk about this very thing. It seems that most trike rearends are mounted up side down. When they are filled at initial installation, they are filled with the amount of lube that is recommended by the manufacturer when installed in a car. So if it calls for 3 qts when in a car the oil level should be about 1/4" below the fill hole. but when installed up side down it will be out the reach of your finger. However we have found that if you fill it to just below the fill hole is will still be ok and should not cause any problems. If it is over filled you will get some blow by from the vent tube, this is ok. If you fill to the fill hole it is probably better for your wheel bearings. most of us with ford rearends are filling them to with in 1/4" of the fill hole with no problems. Now with that said, I still don't know what that stuff is on our trike.
-
Good point. Are you going to post a how to on you set up?
-
Did you check the oil level in the differential? That suff looks to dry to be dif oil. Did you look at the front seal for leakage?
-
Correct me if I,m wrong and I know someone will, but isn't our fuel system a none recirculating system? Doesn't the pump just pump fuel to the carb bowels with no return to the tank? If so, then way can't you just tee into the fuel line at the tank petcock valve, install a valve, run the line to the aux tank. This way you can use the stock pump to draw from either tank. Just open one valve and close the other as needed.

Robin was reading this post to me while I was working on a project for the trike...laughed so hard I dropped my nuts on the floor:yikes:...think I lost a couple. Dang it Tom! see what you went and made me do... Wait, I think I found one in my goffy slippers:rotfl:
