  1. Hey Charlie, Good choice! Not long distance? I met a guy out in Spearfish SD, last week, that was on his way home from visiting his daughter in Alaska. He was from Vermont, and was riding a KLR650. Carrying all of his camping gear and having the time of his life. Actually, I have a smaller dual purpose, a honda XL250R and have a basket on the back for my tackle / cooler box and two rod holders on the side Good fishing, Steve
  2. I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these, but my 05 RSTD has a mustang studded solo seat. Will this backrest mount in back of the solo seat or what. not sure about how it mounts. I called utopia and she wasn't sure. She did say that I wouldn't be cutting a slot in the seat for sure. That it frame mounted. She offered to send me a bracket to see if it would work. If I got a mustang, I'd have to order a different seat. Maybe I'll get a hold of Diamond R. Any help would be appreciated. (by my back) Steve

I like it, and the red really sets it off. I'll look forward to having one. (and of course, it just happens to match my bike) Steve
  4. So-------We wont' go hungry for sure. And, I'm still bringing the beans Steve
  5. Ruffy I'm really looking forward to your review. Around here, without my helmet, and of course I wear glasses, my eyes water in the cool mornings and especially on the road. So I wear rather large over the glasses goggles. Something smaller like these would be great if they work. Good luck, Thanks, Steve
  6. Very good suggestion Eck, I have to start buying bigger bottles. Steve
  7. Biscuits and gravy is my favorite, count me in Steve
  8. Hi Jonas, It was a pleasure to meet you. And I'm glad you had a chance to wash your bike. It sure did look great! Thanks for a taste of your black death too. (I think) Steve
  9. Hey Bob, glad that you and Karen came out of this OK. When I started riding back in the 60s, most of my riding was at night, now, I don't even consider riding at night around here. The deer thng is way too serious for me. and way too many! Hunting seasons need to be adjusted much differently than they do it now, IMO. Steve

Tomorrow I'll wear my " I tubed the hootch" in honor of your ride. Steve
  11. Hey Mike, That was great--Who'd a thunk it? Steve
  12. Thanks Dave, that's just what I needed. Steve
  13. I am connecting two 12v outlets on my 05 RSTD. One under the seat with a wire running under the tank and up the bars to my GPS, and one in the left saddlebag to charge cell, mp3 or whatever. right now, I have them hooked up to the battery with a 5a fuse. In back of my battery there is a white connection that has 5 wires: black, yellow, blue, brown and green. It is also fused. (factory) Can I use any of these wires to connect to, instead of connecting to the battery, so that these outlets are keyed? Right now they are hot all the time. Thanks, Steve
  14. I always do the same as RR, when I use my debit card, I always check, credit. Steve
  15. I made that switch from an 86VR to an 05 RSTD for that exact reason and love it. Around here, the windshield is usually off and to put on 500 miles a day with the windshield on is a great bike to do it on. I ride one up, and have the bike set up that way, so everything just packed on the back for traveling/camping. No problem You will love it, Steve
  16. It could very well be that with your older windshield, the hazy film is the clear coating on the windshield. If it is, the only way to have it be clear is to remove it. (the clearcoat) I removed mine on my 86vr with masking tape, put it on and pull it off. It pulled the hazy clearcoat off. (both sides) I'd be very carefull and see if this is what you want/need to do. Good luck, Steve
  17. Sounds like a great idea to me, but looking at my summer ride calendar, weekends are mostly full for me. Later in July and same in Aug, I'd be able to come. I'm sure everyone else has the same type of summer-------full. I always think of summer as a bunch of weekends and they go by very fast. Hope it works out. Steve
  18. Part of that routine kinda sounds like me:crackup: Hey, you take care of yourself, and hope it all goes good at the doc on Mon. Steve
  19. Ok, the lid is open. I took my dremel with the tiny cutoff wheel and cut the roll pin between the hinge, and opened the lid. You'd never know. Turns out the latch mechanism was bent in several places. Took it all apart and got everypart of it working like it should, and now it works like new. Of course lubed it up very well. I got the pins out and tomorrow I'll replace them. Not a big deal. That is the most over engineerd latch you can imagine. the idiot that designed it should have been fired somewhere around the turn of the century. and it wastes lots of space on top of it all. Thanks for your ideas, Steve
  20. The day before I left for MD, I had my rear wheel /drive shaft out for lubing and about drove myself nuts getting it back in. I ended up removing the pumpkin like you, and that made it much easier. I will add two things though--have the U-joint at a 90deg (someone told me this after the fact) so that it can only swivel straight up and down, AND have it in gear. I think having it in gear might just be the biggest tip. Steve
  21. Thanks for the replys. I couldn't really believe that I was the only one this happened to. I'll sure give this lots more effort, but I'm waiting for my buddy to stop by so there are two extra hands pushing and pulling. I'll let you all know how this works out. Steve
  22. When I left Don's, I must have packed too much stuff in the bags, (well, OK, I know I did) and my right bag is VERY stuck shut. I can release the front latch, but not the back one. I have tried pushing, pulling and every form of violent acts to get it open short of destroying it. My thought is somehow to take the hinge apart. it seems that there are two roll pins, front and back. I tried an easy out last night, but they didn't move. I called two dealers and talked with their parts and service guys, and the computer blowup didn't show the breakdown of the hinge. And the service depts, had never run into this problem. I'm now thinking if we have a small enough aircraft drill bit here, I might try and drill out the roll pin. (I'm assuming that there is one) Anyone run into this? Steve
  23. Well put for sure. Eck, your a stand up guy----Kudos to you. Steve
  24. Thanks for the remider and I'm glad they didn't get hurt. I think about that every time I pass a semi. In fact, if there is a slower vehicle passing a semi in front of me, I wait back till he pulls over into the right lane, then I go by quickly. Steve
  25. What do you do with all of your spare time? Nothing short of amazing!!! And she still loves you!!! Thanks Eileen---- Steve
