How much money are we putting into our rides?
Solodadof2 replied to Godlover's topic in Watering Hole
Let me tell you I hasd thought about this and done some research on one of my bikes as I was looking to sell it. So I went out on Ebay and visited a few websites to get the get an average of what the items were going for new. The total was almost 3,000. Scarry I did not know I had that much into it. We bought my wifes 1100 classic used and by the time were done we had almost as much in accessories as we paid for the bike. -
My wife has one on her 1100 classic and loves it, I have done quite a bit of research for my RSTD and keep finding people that do not like them. I hope for the money that it would be worth it.

Well my thoughts are this my wife and I use motorcycling as a way to stay connected. I could get killed walking across the street to get the mail. Let your wife decide what she want to do. If is is fear of your own personal riding skill then take a riders course to help you overcome that fear. Good luck

I have seen several low mileage 09 out there for 13k or less, I think If I had to pay the 18000 plus for a tourbike I would be looking towards some of the other brands with Fuel injection and more cc.

Come on now with that!

Dave, Glad your not hurt to bad Good that it happened to you and not your son.

I tell you I have gone into museums like over by J&P and Kirstings in Indiana and i have to say, We are wimps compared to some of the people that road those bikes. You think a stock seat sucks, we should try riding on a steel pan like many of the riders of days past. those guys were hardcore.

Guys I have walked the same path, have had the same frustration, and am not afraid to be confrontational. But you do not know how these guy will react, some just pass or back off, but someday you will hit that road raged, had a bad day at work, old lady left him with nothing guys that bang zoom you are history. So you throw one of those bolts it hits the window and the drive over reacts not worth it. pull over, pull into a gas station. Now as a whole motorcyclist are not doing well for our cause ex: last year 80% of the fatalities in Illinois motorcycle accidents were not wearing a helmet. Cannot tell you how many times I have seen a biker in this area with a young child on the back that cannot touch the footrest. How many times I go by a bar that is full of Biker's( that is not just Harleys). Goldwing guys around here ride with a baseball cap, shorts, sandels, and sometimes no shirt. I always wear a helmet but just as guilty as the next guy for not wearing a jacket. There is never enough lighting period. Turn signal conversions, let brake light, saddlebag guard rail lights. Horns in light of recent accidents the group I ride with are going to be talking about at least the tail gunner wearing a High Visibilty vest.

I have one on my royal star and one on my wife's vstar 1100. great communcation, easy to install. real good value for the money. She hooks he ipod up and i hook the GPS up. I have to connect the power wire to another source as I am getting a lot of engine noise on the RSTD. thats what you get for listening to others.

Cruise Control acclerates on its own.

I agree with everyone else, this is not one of those issues you try to fix by doing some grease and lubricating. Use your warranty, don't take a chance.- 13 replies

Went to the deals gap website not to dispair there has been a huge bonus offered for an early completion, to reopen the dragon. they have to start by April 5th but can start earlier. Cross your fingers that the weather out there is good and there are no more set backs. Me personally I was headed out that direction this July, but would rather plan it for another time when it is safe than for them to rush and do a half )(* job.

Detachable RSTD Tour Pak Completed
Solodadof2 replied to naturbar's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Naturbar is possibly going to have some more made, I have put myself on the list. Let him know if you are interested in getting one. We have to appreciate the fact that most of the guys that have spent time and came up with these add-ons are sharing and that they do not typically make a living off of having them manufactured. So a lot of the time it is money out of pocket till they get these items sold. So pre ordering is great for these guys. -
Tour pack mounting
Solodadof2 replied to Solodadof2's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Well everyone I was talking with Buzz, he is considering doing another batch of the Quick release tour deluxe tour pack mounts. I have put my name on the list but realize that it is not cheap to do this. Anyway if anyone is interested get ahold of "naturbar" and let him know. -
Biker highway is another resource for the plug and play LEd Tail light either in the 32 or the 100 led. In regards to turn signal conversion the RSTD is on Back order at electrical connections. Kuryakyn also makes what is called a triple Whammy. We have this on my Wife's Vstar 1100 classic. It stay on until activating the turn signal or the brake. when you activate the brakes is flashes 3 times then goes solid. I have thought about mounting one up behind the backrest pad, but haven't really done to much with that yet,

Bad motorcycle crash in Phoenix, several dead
Solodadof2 replied to FutureVentures's topic in Watering Hole
My heart and prayers go out to all of the riders and their family as well as the dump truck driver. what a horrible tragedy for all. There is a lot of speculation but, wait till you get the whole story before making judgements. Maybe I am naive but I cannot imagine this guy did this on purpose or intentionally. What a burden he now has to live with, if he can! -
Well I did not read all the way through, if it was between the tour deluxe and the heritage. get the tour deluxe. 5 year warranty, cheaper accessories, cruise control, air suspension liquid cooled, quick detach sissybar and windshield just to mention a few advantages and then there is the cost of servicing and having to buy all the harley clothes.

I just bought my 08 with 1300 miles for $6500.00 remember the 5 year warrenty transfers on a used RSTD for free. Does not sound like that great of a deal. Remember once you drive it of the showroom floor it is a used 2006 miles and the fact you bought it fime minutes ago does not matter. the nada would be 9290.

I watched this video several times and the lights do appear to be flashing, did anyone notice that the suv does not appear to veer till the officer steps his foot our into traffic? I say the officer is playing the odds on a rainy day, with limited visibility and wipers going being so close to the traffic. He actually is standing on the yellow line on a couple of occassions. the fact that he survived is incredible. Can anyone answer why he did not enter the backseat from the passenger side? If someone says so they don't get crushed between the guard rail and the Car I will call Bill Engvall and get you a sign. I am always up for a good debate, but got to say that the officer is just as much at fault here if not more than the driver. As far as distractions no offense to the ladies but everyday on my way to work I cannot tell you how many woman I pass that are putting makeup on and doing things with their hair.

I worked for a company named Bridgestone/firestone in Decatur, Il a few years back, it was at that time that the ford was having rollovers on the explorer. Long story short under inflated tires( as recommended by ford for a smoother ride) and the exhaust adding heat to the tires as it was routed out in front of the tire caused tread seperation. The primary component used for tire rubber is called carbon Black, the best quality tires are made with a powder form of it, most of today's manufacturers use the liquid from( easier to get an EPA permit). Things to think about when you buy tires: 1). There is a code on every tire (in that fine little print) that actually will tell you when the tire was built, the location the tire was built, the person who built it, and some other misc. information. So ask your vendor when the tire was built! There should be a month and year in the code. 2). Under inflation is very hard for the consumer to prove, so typically that is what a manufactuer such as Metzler will tell it's consumers. 3). Car and truck tires are made for cars and truck and motorcycle tires are made for motorcycles. ( that should stir some crap) the rubber is mixed to different specifications for each based on the purpose and perfomance. 4). Avon saying the problem occured 2 years ago means nothing there are still probably 1,000 of tires in warehouses from those years. not all warehouses use the first in first out rule successfully. 5). a properly made tire does not require balancing 6). The best way to have this issue looked into is to contact the national highway and transportation safety council( Correct me if I have this wrong), this is the group that oversees these kinds of issues and recalls. 7). The reason that Avon is cooperating with many of you is that, once you get satisfaction you drop the issue and that my friends keeps them from spending out hundreds of thousands of Dollars on a nation wide recall. Even if you get good service you need to report your issues, eventually one of the tires will fail on some unsuspecting sole that bought into the crap that is being spewed, will end up scarred from head to toe or worse. Since you already gave up your tire because you got your new set now the proof is destroyed as to how wide spread the problem actually was. Last but not least Sears has the most stringent specifications for tire manufacturers of all retailers. I realize they do not sell motorcycle tires. Hope this helps!

These are a star accessory and can also be found on ebay.
