I have to agree with Steve; maybe Harley in Florida got wind of his desire to ride from race to race and decided this would be a good promo opportunity and GAVE him a bike. Afterall, if he rides as much as he's planning to, look at the FREE advertisement for Harley. Hey maybe if I go tell the news media I'm going to ride to the West Coast, someone will give me a free bike ??? NOT !!!!! I remember when I was planning my trip to Oregon in 2000 I went to our lousy local Yamaha dealer and tried to get mileage sponsorship to donate to Jerry's Kids. The cheap b@$%@ wouldn't donate a penny.

I agree with Buddyrich. Retorqueing alone isn't a fix, it's a bandaid. Take it to the farther/second dealer and get it COMPLETELY fixed.

Whatever insurance you get make SURE of your coverage, ie. what is and isn't covered. After my accident last October I was shocked to find out that I was not covered for personal injury by State Farm. Yes, I know it's my job to verify my coverage but I have been with the same agent for over 18 years and this was my 4th bike with him. Come to find out State Farm does not write personal injury in Mississippi, or so they told me AFTER the accident. I was flabbergasted. Thank God I had good health insurance that has paid most of the bills. I was worried that State Farm would cancel me after the accident but it really doesn't matter because when I get my new bike I won't be using them. By the way this is the same agent that told me I would never need Flood insurance. We had 5 feet of water in the house for Katrina. BUT, I can't change because it's almost impossible to get homeowners insurance right now, if you don't have it or want to change. But when I can believe me State Farm will be out of my life!!!

What do you think?
rsstar replied to 2Whlsrollin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That's normal for the 2nd gen also. My 99 and 06 had oil in the box on the left side. Has something to do with the crankcase reventilation which feeds crankcase gas (an oil) into the carbs for burn/reburn. I'm not real good on the technical explanation but I had oil on the left carbs and airbox of both my RSVs. -
I love New York !!! Always something going on !!! Way Cool !!!

Biker shot in back. Shooter claims self defense
rsstar replied to royalstarjac's topic in Watering Hole
1. New bike and probably less experienced rider. And HE is going to hit a car on purpose with his NEW bike????!!!! 2. He initiated the confrontation and HE is following them????? 3. The idiot father shoots the rider as he PASSES by the house. Rider doesn't stop, doesn't turn into driveway. Rider is shot in the BACK !!!!! 4. Girls admit to making hand gestures. !!!!!!! Sad that his happened but for the sake of fairness, I hopoe they hang this guy!!! He had no right to shoot the rider. Fear for his life....what a joke!!!!Thank goodness he can't bond out of jail. Girls acted like fools; now they've lost their father!!!!! -
I've been to Barbers and really enjoyed it. I hate to see Wheels move away from Maggie Valley as that was one more reason to go up there but for those that can't having the different museums located in one spot will be nice. However, having read some about the owner of Barbers, and remembering what they wanted to charge when Eck was trying to make arrangememnts to use their facility for a Meet n Eat I would venture to say that you will pay a seperate entrance fee for each museum, and that could get expensive. I would be willing to bet that the fee to get in to Wheels will go up considerably. JMHO.!

Had the same problem on my 99 but evidently mine were broken when the dealer installed the windshield at assembly. If you overtighten the end screws those tabs will break. Was lucky on my 06...changed the windshield twice and didn't break the tabs. As for fixing them I never did on my 99 and didn't notice any negative effects. As was stated,. the dealer WILL replace the inner fairing under warranty but like was also mentioned, most dealers scare me and I would be worried about something else being messed up. Changing the inner fairing is not an easy task. Maybe the 09 will be redesigned totally and all these little problems will go away. I'm waiting to see before I buy a new bike. If no major change in 09 I'm afraid my next bike will NOT be a Venture.

As one of the millions of innocent victims of a drunk driver I am waiting for the time when we never have to worry about seeing a convicted drunk driver behind the wheel of ANY vehicle, EVER again. I have no patience or sympathy for a drunk driver. As far as I am concerned he/she is just as much a menace to society as a person running around shooting people with a gun. And if I had anything to do with it a person caught driving on a suspended license would spend the next 20 years in jail, no questions asked!!!! I am of the belief that if the punishment is harsh enough most people will think twice before breaking the law. I think EVERYONE should carry!!!!!

Venting 2nd Gen Front Leg Shields (lower Fairing)
rsstar replied to hilliss's topic in Watering Hole
Add the Yamaha air deflectors. I had them on my 06 and they worked really good. THey also helped to block rain/cold air when "closed". And they look good also. Matches the contour of the lowers perfectly. -
Redrider, pm me with the info. My son lives in Montgomery. He MIGHT be able to look at the bike.

I can assure you that you are not alone. I was riding down the beach here (hwy 90) last summer when I saw a biker on the side of the road, and it looked like he was having problems, so I stopped. When I asked what was the problem he said that he was having a nice ride when all of a sudden the bike just quit. He said he had plenty of gas and prior to the shutdown, the bike seemed to be running great. Having had this same problem I glanced at his bike, reached over and turned the kill switch on and told him to try to start it. It fired right up and after exchanging a few more pleasantries we were both on our seperate ways. The only difference when it happened to me is that no one stopped to help me and it took at least 15 minutes before I finally checked the switch. By the way, the battery is under the seat. There are two nuts, one on each side towards the front of the seat, that you remove. Then the seat comes off. Good luck !!

If you plan to come through Ms. please let me know. Maybe we can meet and have a cup. or even lunch. Make sure and give me dates.

If this move is what you want, and it sounds as if it is,CONGRATULATIONS. I have never lived on the East coast but I spent two 5 week stratches working in New Hampshire a few years ago and I absolutely fell in love with the area. Up there you don't have to "pick" a nice route. Almost all of the roads are nice rides. And there are so many things to see. And there are many things to do when you can't ride, due to the weather. If I could move up there I would be gone in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I married a Louisiana girl and her feet are firmly planted in the southern mud !!!!! Good luck !!

If you're talking low roads as in I 10 and south, Hwy 90 is a nice route. But plan your trip so as NOT to stay in New Orleans, especially with a bike. Crime is very high there right now. If you come through Mississippi take the first exit after crossing into Ms. from I10. Follow it east and it will put you on Hwy 90 along the coast. you'll get to see what Katrina did and what is happening in the rebuilding. Hwy 90 goes thru Mobile and on over to Pensecola. Just east of Mobile you can go south to Foley Ala, and on to gulf Shores if you want; then on into Pensecola. If you are going to stay south the ride further east on Hwy 98 is a must. It is a very nice ride, especially this time of year. If you're going to stay more north I would suggest going thru Birmingham for the Barbers museum and then you could head north to Hunstville for the Space museum, and then on over to Chatanooga. If you'll check you map there is one road going north out of B'ham that is a great ride. It's east of the interstate. Once you get to Chatanooga you're not far from the Dragon and some spectacular roads in the Smokies. Just a couple of suggestions. Good luck and have a great trip.

Have you tried Wingthings of Texas?? That's where I got mine. They have a good selection of accessories for the Venture. Don't have their link but just google Wingthings of Texas.

I used to carry whenever I got on the bike or into the car. But nowadays it depends on how I feel and where I'm going. If I'm in my car and I am going to visit my wife's family, which is southwest of here, I ALWAYS carry!! Have you seen the statistics on crime in New Orleans lately? More often than not, on the bike I don't now especially on a day ride simply because i don't want to go throught the hassle in neighboring states if I get pulled over and searched. And that happens often down here. But for the next 4 or 5 months i won't have to worry about it as I don't have a bike. They totaled my 06 and wife says no new bike until I'm completely healed.

Great looking bike Buddy. As for coming to meets on the marble, you won't be the first to not ride a Venture, and definitely not the last. Haven't you heard....once a Venturerider, always a Venturerider? !!!!! Congrats on the new bike!!! Wife says I have to wait until my shoulder and arm are completely healed before I can get my new bike. Sure do miss my 06!!!!!

I had the Yamaha Vent wings on my 06 and found them very useful. Being in southern Mississippi NOTHING helps to keep you cool on a Venture in the summer but these do direct air to your feet and lower legs. On the ride in WV last October I found that they really helped when closed to block the cold air. And to me they look a lot nicer than the other vent wings available.

There are two local radio stations I listen to...one is 60-80s Rock and Roll, and the other is Country. But most of the time I am listening to XM channels 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, and 13. There are a couple upper channels also that have 50s and 60s Rock. What's really funny is my wife; she listens to Country almost exclusively. Every wednesday she goes line dancing. Last Sunday we went for a drive and I turned on XM in her car, and turned to the "Willie" station. I looked over at her and she had this look on her face. I said,"you don't like this music do you," and she said not really. She likes Country but the "now" Country. I'm just the opposite...I like the older Country EXCEPT for Porter Wagner. Not much in the way of "music" has been made since the mid 80s, in my opinion!!

Nice pictures Don! Glad you had a chance to relax and have some fun. I really miss the snow!!! By the way, received my bells....thank you very much!!!

Glad to hear everything worked out for the better. That was close....thank goodness they got you help as fast as they did. As for the bike, too bad you don't have a 99 bordeaux. I still have some new plastic from mine. Had a gas tank but gave that away. Anyway, good luck and we'll say a prayer for you!!

I finally got to see an 08 in person today. Can't tell squat from the Yamaha pictures. Anyway, I really like it. Didn't think I would like the two tone but it looks good. To me, it looks like the same black cherry as the 06, just doesn't have the metal flake in it. But I'm not able to ride now, and won't be for some time so I'll probably wait and see what they do with the 09. If it's the same as the 08 I'm afraid I'm changing brands, in which case I will have a lot of accesories to get rid of.

As many times as I have been to Eureka Springs I have never seen or heard of any trouble. There is one motel right at the fork in the road that I would not stay at.Seems to be the place where the rougher looking riders stay, but they don't cause problems. I usually stay at a small motel that has flags and flower boxes out front...can't remember the name. Haven't watched the video yet but there are so many roads to ride in northern Arkansas. Last time I was up there for our class reunion last year I found a couple of new roads that were really nice. If you want a super ride follow 76 out of Branson west until it "ts" with another road just short of the Ok. border. Man, what a ride!!!

Been away from the site for a couple of days. Man Squid, I sure am glad you and Lonna are ok. I know exactly how you feel about not knowing what all happened, except that I know how and why mine started. I just don't remember leaving the bike or hitting the ground but I do remember rolling some and stopping with my arm in a weird position. I take it this just involved you. God I'm glad you are ok. I even remember hitting the other bike...it was a light blue Road King, but I never saw the people on the bike. Unfortunately my 06 was totaled..didn't look near as bad as yours but I felt the same as you, it would never be right. Lonna, my prayers are with you for a speedy recovery. I'm going to therapy with my shoulder...at about 25%. Still will require knee surgery. Squid, how did you mange NO injuries????????Or did I miss a post???
