    Insurance cost

Mine went from 250 a year on a 2002 midnight to 500.00 on the 2007, boy I just did not see that one coming!
  3. Well, I'll put in my two cents worth here being as I just had to change out new 6 month old Dunlop 404 rear tire that only had 5000 miles on it. The original 404 rear did 12000 when I changed it so I went back with the same tire and only got less then half the mileage out of it. I hosted a CMA Jan. 1st ride and the person riding behind me commented that I was ready for a new tire and I almost fell over when I checked it out! The last thing I needed was to have to buy a new tire right after Christmas! My best friend Craig Long called me and said he had a brand new Continantal tire in his garauge that I could have because it was black wall and he runs white. So it cost me $30.00 to have it mounted and ballanced and then I found my rear brakes were almost in the metal more cost. I had a $25.. credit at the local Yamaha shop so brakes cost me $12.00. I have run metz 880s on a 1st get and they split, now Dunlop 404's did good and now bad. I ran Dunlop Elite III's but traded the bike off before they wore out. I did like the way it handled with the Elite III but also liked the 404's too until the mileage problem. Tires like many other things about the Venture are personal preferance, Avon and Elite III seem to be the stand out winners for service, handling, mileage.
  4. When I rode a few weeks ago I noticed my clutch slipped on my 07 but the problem was my clutch lever was to tight and did not extend all the way out when I let it go. Yamaha puts a locking nut on the shoulder bolt so it can be backed off if it gets to tight. Funny about someone saying the clutch was not covered under warranty because my dealer said to bring mine in at 30,000 and he would put me in a new spring plate at no charge. So that is just something else to check also and you might not even notice the clutch lever not going to the farthermost extended position. ......Ken

  6. I was so disgusted with all the snow up north of Georgia I decided to take a weekend in Pigeon Forge,Tn and see if it helps. Temp tomorrow is 65 and sunday is 68. Should have rode but didn't. Just jumped in the Hemi and here we are, hot tub and all.....Ken :mo money:ps doing my part to help the economy!
  7. Any thing with Bud Abbott and Lou Costello
  8. Sorry Craig, ole Buddie no Lemon law in Ga on motorcycles or boats.
  9. Only time I have had that happen is when the battery was going bad. Same thing on Craig's 99 when his battery finally played out this year. I would have the battery checked as the battery is now 4 years old. You could put a digi volt meter on it and see if the voltage drops below 12 volts when you try to start the bike. That would cause both of your problems..........Ken
  10. I caught my 880 splitting before anything happened,I took it back to where it was bought and he contacted a rep. The rep replaced the tire and I had to pay for the remount. He took no responsibility for the tire but did it to make a customer happy. Anyway that did it for me, I have stayed with the Dunlop 404's with no problems and have run the Dunlop elite 3 that I like too. Quote the Raven "never more" for Metzlers!
  11. I can tell you that a railroad track will do the same thing. Also if you take your foot and push on that crash bar it will bend right back with little effort, and don't ask how I know that either.
  12. As with metzler, They will not admit to any defect or responsibility, but might give you a new tire. That's what I got.......Ken
  13. I have had this done for years now and swap windscreens in the spring to the shorter type. I have not had any complaints from the passenger about any extra wind problems. Get some painters tape or masking tape and tape both sides, also take a towel and cover the dash and tank area as the plastic will get everywhere. Then I measured from the chrome trim to where I wanted to cut and put a mark on both sides, I then used a chalk line and popped a chalk line on the tape. I used a jig saw to cut mine, but remember that plastic will melt so don't run it at full speed and take your time. This makes a flat cut across the wind screen. After it is cut take some fine Emory cloth or sand paper and touch up the edges, be sure not to let it slip and make extra scratch marks:yikes:. It works good for me and have had many comments about it. You can make an arch by using a pencil and a string, find the center of the chrome accent trim and where you want the highest point to be and swing the pencil from one side to the other and then check each side to make sure they are the same measurement. Just as an idea I suppose one could take a piece of plastic sheet and lay it on the front of the windscreen mark that and cut the mark and use that for a template for an arch and would be more accurate then a string and pencil. Good luck with whatever you do.
  14. 1st I am glad you and momma are ok ,then here is my story. Been there ,and done that, in Savannah on river street. The pavement was smooth between the tracks and we were on rough cobble stone so, When I went to get in between the tracks the front tire slipped and down me and momma went hard. Bruised ego and leg for me and bad bruise knee for momma, but she got right back on! Scared everyone with us and the store owners came right out to help. One guy in a Mercedes pulled up and blew his horn and almost got whopped on by the other bikers. Been down 3 more times sense that. Last time was hard turn on a down hill slope covered with pea gravel and almost ran off the side of a mountain. It was 2 hours before I even started to feel the pain in my shoulder, but wasn't anything I even went to the doctor about. Believe it or not I am the Road Captain for our local CMA in Dalton, GA. If they only knew
  15. That is excellent! I know for a fact it is tough. I went to blue and everything( Forms )started running together. I also took Martial Arts with my kids and I know it was the best physical condition I was ever in. Practice often, and watch that boy grow up. The older you are the more it hurts. My favorite kick is a Chinese Crescent kick. I always love to do it but never tried it in a match so there you go,enjoy and congrats......Ken
  16. We, Craig & Pat and My wife Joan and I took Friday and we are in Pigeon Forge until Sunday then back threw the skyway and more. It was cool and cloudy Friday but made up for it that evening and today. No riding today but will make up for it tomorrow. At 08:00pm it was still 80 degrees, not bad for October! You all enjoy yours and be safe........Ken
  17. Prayers going up from Calhoun, Ga., So sorry for your loss.....Ken
  18. To bad he quit making the eagle armrest, I must have bought the last set before he quit. I just gave a set of diamond-R armrest away to a fellow venture rider with a 2008 Black Cherry.
  19. Don't know about where you are at, but there is no lemon law on motorcycles in the state of Georgia, just cars and trucks, BUMMER
  20. Our prayers going up from Georgia, Please keep us posted
  21. I had to take mine in 4 times to have the rear end worked on and they finally replaced the whole thing and fixed the problem. I was at the yamaha shop last week and the mechanic told me to bring it in at 30,000 miles and he would replace the clutch plate on the warranty, so I don't see why yours shouldn't be covered too.
  22. Close call, watch out for the fast food places! as they carry there oil to dump out back and spill it about every time. I know of at least one post where one of our venture riders slid down because of this. Grrrrrrr..Gravel is my downfall ouch it hurts.....Ken
  23. not going to make it Terry maybe next time....Ken

  24. EliteIII's going on mine when it's time,10,000 now and maybe over half gone on the factory Dunlop tires. If I buy them from a guy here where I live and bring him the wheel he will install and ballance them at no extra charge. Good prices on the tires too....Ken:cool10:
  25. Well my brand new 2007 RSV midnight blue with my wife and trailer went to vogal last year and I got off the bike to pay at the guard house, then that old thing called gravity took over and bike went forword and over. Wife tried to catch it(dumb but natural to try) and the arm rest made a bad bruise and cut on her leg. Then she tried to set it back up! :no-no-no:I just ask her to back up and I backed up to the bike and up she went! :cool10:No damage but hate it momma got bummed up. Hind site-turn motor off and put in gear on a down grade Here is the pic of us that very same day........Ken
