Proof that Forest was right........

Hey there VentureWingers. I've got two different types of risers for passenger floorboards for the wing for sale. We tried a number of combinations before we found what worked best for my wife. Both items are in "as new" condition and are considerably less than new cost. They are listed in the "Accessories for all bikes" category (Maybe we need a GW accessories section?). Anyway, if you're looking for something to help make your better half more comfortable, here's a couple options for you! If nobody here is interested in a few days I'll post 'em on a GW site, but thought I'd give my Venturerider buddies first shot. Dwayne

I'll echo the sentiments of the other guys. My son (only child) is a career Marine with 18 years in. He's gone to the sandbox 3 times and various other garden spots over the years. HE was a single parent when he went over in '03 and my 7 year old grandaughter crawled up in Grandpa's lap, looked me in the eye and said "Granpa, is my daddy going to die?" Talk about tearing your heart out! I told her, "No honey, your daddy's with a bunch of brave men and they will watch out for each other. We just need to ask God to take care of him and bring him home safe" (and all the time my heart was breaking and I was scared to death!!). You WILL miss 'em and worry your tail off, however remember young men like your son ARE the USA. People willing to stand up and be counted are what makes our country, not the spoiled, wristwringers who whine and cry 'cause things don't always go their way!...Be proud of him, praise him for being a Man and continually ask the Good Lord to watch over and protect him.

Olympia Airglide pants in silver with an Airglide jacket and vented gloves (and of course a helmet). Very good airflow yet you still have armor for the knees and cordura on all the "contact points". PLEASE don't let your lady ride in shorts:no-no-no:.....trip and fall on an oil n chip road while walking and see how you look, then imagine at 20 or 30 mph!! I use the same gear for both the wife and I in the summer. It's really not any hotter than shorts and a tee shirt and you have a LOT more safety. You can also wear a "cooling vest" under the jacket for those days when it's REALLY hot. Frankly, if it's too hot for gear it's too hot to ride, and it's almost never too hot to ride! ATGATT!

Uh...it's the button labeled WB (WaveBack?) ('course it could be weatherband..nah, I like waveback better...)

Remember guys the helmet will NOT stop the cage from hitting YOU...It WILL reduce the impact between your punkin and the pavement, curb, fender, etc. I spent several years doing fatality investigations for uncle sam. One area we studied was occupational falls. I have personally investigated the death of a 16 year old girl who fell off a 5 ft step ladder and bounced her head off a concrete floor. I does not take much of a hit on the head to do REAL damage. THAT is what the helmet is for. Can you get killed wearing a helment, sure. Are your odds better with a helmet? Absolutely!! Ya pays your nickel and ya takes your chances. As they used to say in the old "Bell Star" helmet days, if ya got a $10 head, wear a $10 helmet....

I've had both and while I am very happy with my 'Wing, out on the highway at cruising speed I believe the Venture was more comfortable (Wife liked the ride on the Venture MUCH more!!). At low speed I found the Venture to be "heavy", much more so than the Wing. Bottom line to me, the Venture is a great Touring Cruiser, the Wing is a great Sport Tourer....Different animals. Get the one that suits YOU and ride!

I found out that a Corbin on my FJR was very hard. I finally got used to it, but it took a LONG time...It was also VERY slippery. I finally got some stuff from a saddle shop that made it less so. I "think" if you ever get it broke in you'll like it ok. Corbin's are kind of a love it or hate it thing...

Thanks Guys. This agrees with exactly what I was thinking. I like the idea of having the extra space for a rack to carry a cooler or extra luggage and, maybe a trailer one of these days. A hitch that will do both makes more sense than the dedicated Rak setup. Thanks again!

Hey wingers, has anybody out there tried a Packit Rak OR one of the similar rigs that mounts to a trailer hitch? I'm looking for more carrying space (more room for momma's stuff and a small cooler) and really would prefer NOT to trailer... I've had a guy I met at a shop rave about the packit set up, but I'm not sure I want a hole in the rear fender:confused24: (though on HIS bike he had a reflector that covered the hole when the rack wasn't installed.!) Anyway, any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated!!

Always wear full gear (ATGATT) regardless of temperature or where I'm going. If it's too hot for gear, it's too hot to ride, and it's Never too hot to ride. When I was a pup back in the '60's there were times when I did not, and when my home state passed a helmet law, I complained as much as anybody, however by the time the law was repealed a few years later I'd got used to helmets and wear full face or modular ALL the time. Mesh gear in summer, full textile in winter, boots and gloves all the time as well. Spent to many years on a fire truck responding to wrecks and had a few myself and the combination convinced me that riding without full gear just isn't worth it. Different strokes for different folks. It's your head and your hide. Me? I'm too old for asphalt rash if I can avoid it.

For the young'uns out there, the Prince of Darkness was Lucas of Lucas Electrics-standard equipment on Brit bikes, cars, etc. They were well known for LACK of reliability. The old Triumph shop back home had a sign on the wall "Why do the British drink warm beer? 'Cause they have LUCAS refrigerators!!"

Congrats on the NEW bike (yeah, it's a couple years old, but with that mileage it's NEW!!!) I too really like the handling and power of the Wing. Suits my riding style. I just got back this afternoon from riding the Natchez trace from end to end (down and back!) I can verify that turning up the wick will definitely hurt your mpg's. Going down the trace (speed limit 50) and just kinda cruisin' along I got mileage in the uper 40's. Running hard I get in the upper 30's

Uh, didn't we have this discussion last year? and the year before??

I'd agree with the "ride it before you decide" comment. The Blast was the budget Buell. HD used 'em for their Rider classes to start folks out on but otherwise kinda disowned 'em (as they did the entire Buell line...what a mistake THAT was...). Anyway, it should depend on how you feel on the thing. It is a thumper, so there will be some vibration...

Just curious, How many Wing Riders do we have on the site?

Head up toward Tellico Plains..great ride on the Cherahoula Skyway and a neat little town. Good little bakery there and check out Tellico Motorcycle Outfitters. One of my favorite places:bighug:

I looked at and test rode a couple of the RT's last fall. I liked the ride ok, but the handling was a tad "strange". I seriously considered one, but a couple things turned me off (1) handling (just not my thing, I like to lean); (2) fuel economy (terrible!); (3) the early RT's have been plaqued with a number of electrical problems. I was on Spyderrider and a LOT of different folks reported the same type issues (basically computer glitches that put the unit out of service). I also noted that the seats on one new unit that I test rode and another sitting on the shop floor had the seat cover separating from the padding underneath (wrinkling up-looked awful)Those things, plus the high $$ were what turned me off. I like the concept, but not too sure about the execution-certainly don't want to be a beta tester....

Also, for traveling with "dress" clothes, try putting 'em inside a clear plastic bag (dry cleaner bag) and then roll them up...seems to help control wrinkling when I'm carrying "suits" both on aircraft and on the Wing...

If you want an "inexpensive" Honda, better look at a 50cc Cub....
-
And that's a fact... This is the BEST site I've ever found on the web....GREAT folks!!

I didn't get a picture..(too much glare?). Seriously, maybe next time we get together I'll think to use the camera. Pretty bike though...
-
Yeah, and unfortunately the EPA emission controls and 5 mph bumpers for one stateside would likely cost $5k.....
-
Glad you're OK. What a bummer..here you are trying to do something decent and honorable and it winds up costing you because one of your peers goofs up. I love to ride, but frankly groups worry me just for this type of thing. Whenever you're with folks you don't know well (riding ability wise) PLEASE stay on your toes! There are a lot of folks out there on bikes who are newbies and really don't know "how" to ride. If one of 'em is near you and they screw up, down ya go. Be careful and stay safe!!

Yes, it's true. I'm ashamed to admit it, but there it is. My best friend, from all the way back in high school, (40+ years ago), a man who's a retired Army major, finally came out and admitted it. Yes, he's a flaming Chromosexual. Told me he had bought a new bike and that he'd be coming by the house. Well, I looked up and there it was, a shiny new Hardley Ableson ElectroTurboDynoHydroSuperHydroGlide with the Sqawkin' Chick'n package. I could hardly see it for the glare, but I think everything on it is chormed except maybe the tires:confused24:. There must be Chromium miners all over the world celebrating everytime HD sell's one of these:whistling:..... Seriously, a new HD Ultra Classic with the Screamin' Eagle is a pretty darn nice (and sharp looking) bike. And it rides Nice! Dang though, I'm glad I'm not the one stuck with polishing that beast...... And the price...$33 large...Yikes!!!!! Oh well, different strokes for different folks. Wouldn't it be a dull world if we were all just alike?
