  1. Had one of the "green light trigger" magnets on my feejer..worked pretty well on getting otherwise non-responsive lights to change. (Forgot about it when I bought the RSV though... Gonna pick up another one of these days!
  2. The new Harley tourers aren't "bad" bikes, but they are (1) EXPENSIVE, (2) HOT, and (3) slow. I looked pretty hard at an Ultra and it was OK, but I couldn't get past they above issues. I'm not into dressing like a pirate, so the whole "lifestyle" thing doesn't matter to me. Bought the RSV and haven't looked back ('cept when I passed a guy on a new Ultra the day before yesterday:innocent-emoticon:)
  3. Take a look at the Nolen 3/4 (model 84?). They are "N-Com" compatible and should do everything you want. I wear a Nolen 102 (Modular) and am very satisfied with it.
  4. +1 on that. The clutch should NOT be slipping. Methinks there's something in the Rotella that doesn't work well with the clutch....Don't we have a "wet plate" in the Ventures? If so, the "super slippery" aspect of some synthetics CAN cause a clutch problem! (Hence the recommendations to us MC specific oil)
  5. thanks Steve! I'll give it a try!
  6. Great story. Wonder if it would be worth establishing a "list" of special dealers like this one so the rest of our brothers and sisters know who to Avoid? There are some REALLY good dealers out there, but, unfortunately there are also some REAL duds.....mayhap we should help 'em out as they work their way out of business.... After all, in todays climate don't dealers REALLY need repeat business (answer YES:hihi:) Therefore if the walk on a customer maybe we need to share the experience so our peers will go somewhere that their business will be appreciate!
  7. Take a moment on the fourth to do the following: (1) Stop and thank the good Lord for allowing you to live where you're free; (2) Tell those you love that you do love them and remind them how blessed we are to be living here; (3) When you see a young man or women in our country's uniform, stop them and just say "thank you" (it means a LOT to them!!) Remember, freedom isn't free. It's been bought and is still being paid for with the blood sweat and tears of those who go in harm's way on our behalf. Remember that "millions sleep in peace tonight because a few hard men stand ready to do violence on our behalf" Proud parent of a career United States Marine (and his wife, also a career Marine)
  8. He's right, clear nail polish works great as a locktite replacement. We used to use it on rifle scope mounts and rings. Worked great BUT you could still get the aluminum screws OUT later if you wanted to (unlike locktite which "locked" 'em in TIGHT:crying: and resulted in stripped threads when ya took 'em out.).....'Course I guess you COULD use colored polish if that's what floats yur boat:happy-emoticon:
  9. As has been stated, motorcycles are all about PERSONAL likes. With that said, the newer HD's tend to run VERY hot, especially the rear cylinder. In fact, HD now has an idle "cut out" that kills fuel to the rear cylinder at idle to help control heat. I've ridden 'em and I considered an Ultra, but found that it was (a) slower (b) hotter, and © less comfy (for wife and I) than the Venture. The new HD's are much more reliable than in the days of old, but way behind the Venture on warranty and longevity issues. There is a certain panache about a "Harley", whether that's important to YOU is strictly a personal decision. With that said, before you buy one I'd STRONGLY suggest you take one for a long ride on a HOT day and include some stop and go stuff. Be SURE you know what you're getting before you plunk down the $$ You might want to consider getting to EagleRiders and renting one for a few days. That way you can actually SEE what it's like to ride one in varied conditions without spending mega$$.
  10. +1 on that. The Venture is definitely longer than 8'. You CAN cut/weld and extension on the front to give you the length you need (or buy a 10' trailer)
  11. Cycle world did a story on the Enfields a couple months ago. Part of it was on the new version while another section covered the "old". Good story be Pete Egan on them. Looks like they'd be a "fun" toy, though dealers are kinda scarce in this neck of the woods.
  12. Remember that 5th is OVERDRIVE...Ya really shouldn't be using it to "accelerate" from 60 per. Yeah, it WILL do it, but at 60 you and the bike would be much happier in 4th. Acceleration will be much quicker and, surprisingly, you'll find the bike much smoother as well. Enjoy the ride! I've just had my RSV a few weeks, but I really love it!!
  13. OK, I'm interested. Is that Pledge FURNITURE polish OR "multipurpose cleaner". It "looks" like the polish has got oil in it...if so, doens't it cause dust to stick, etc? Inquiring minds want to know:innocent-emoticon: THANKS!
  14. Don't mind the wind in the face stuff IF it's without buffeting and excessive wind noise. I just traded off my 07 FJR which was a great bike seriously handicapped by incredible buffeting and windnoise with the stock shield ('course I tried LOTS of other shields 'till I found one that worked ok for me:thumbsup2:. One of the great things about the Venture (in addition to the good ergo's for me and the bride) is the QUIET ride. How is it with the shorty shield?
  15. thanks all! I ordered a set of the snap vents this morning from Spruce. I'm gonna give them a shot. If that doesn't cut it I can always go with a shorter shield, baker wings, etc. Weird problem though.... first motorcycle in more than 40 years riding that gave me too MUCH weather protection! I've been cold and wet on bikes for years, but NEVER had too little airflow:happy-emoticon:
  16. +1 on the 1000 miles and no rain. I picked up my venture last Friday and have been camping since Monday and I already have 350 miles on it AND have ridden it in the rain (Come to think of it, for the past 2 months on my FJR I don't think I ever got to ride WITHOUT being in the rain:cold:) Personally, I'd much rather ride 'em that polish 'em. Polishing seems a LOT like work....
  17. Thanks Monsta! Found the bolts right where you said they'd be. I'm going to see if I can find the thread on adding the vents. I really like the weather protection the stock shield gives, but BOY does it get HOT behind that puppy on a bright sunny Kentucky afternoon! Must be tough being "stuck" in paradise:happy65: The vents sound like they'd be the ticket! Thanks again!
  18. thanks for the info Brian! looks good. Now, what about changing out that windshield? How DOES that chrome trim come off??
  19. Try Eureka Springs Ark. Beautiful old resort town, GREAT roads and decent restaurants. Go south out of town and take a nice long loop through the hills. Check out War Eagle Mill as well. Great place. Wife and I were there for the 3rd time last April. Some of the nicest, and least traveled, roads around!!!
  20. thank you ALL for your input and suggestions. Right now I'm thinking a shorter Clearview w/vent, plus the yamaha lowers. I typically wear a Hi-Viz Olympia Bushwhacker vented jacket and Airglide pants over a tee shirt and jeans. Never (EVER) before had a motorcycle that had too MUCH weather protection:256:! I'd like to keep the bike quiet and calm (no buffeting) while still getting some air through the jacket. I thought about a cooling vest, but unless you go with the high buck models with circulating pump ya gotta have SOME air flow to get evaporation. Any and all additional suggestions GREATLY appreciated! By the by, the Venture is an absolutely GREAT bike. I love it and if I can get this overheating of the body thing whipped, it is going to be outstanding!
  21. thanks guys, please keep the suggestions coming. Brian, do you have to drill to install the Bakers or are the bolt on? (Hate to drill a brand new bike). also, how do ya get the chrome trim off, intact, to access the windshield screws to change out a shield? THANKS!
  22. Hey Guys, I BADLY need some of your wise counsel. I'm the happy owner of a new '09 Venture having just traded off my '07 FJR (Quantum Shift:happy34:). This is my first full boat tourer. For MANY years I've gripped and moaned about windnoise, buffeting, etc. My FEEJER was terrible for that -great bike though... Anyway, you've heard it said "be careful what you wish for". Well I wanted a bike with a quiet ride and good wind protection. Boy, did I ever get it in the Venture. Problem is, on a hot sunny day (96 here in the sun today) I thought I was gonna die from heat exhaustion. I wear a full vented jacket in hot weather, but behind the Venture's shield I got ZIP in the way of airflow. Great when it's cool (last evening) but way to hot today:fiddle:. I badly need additional air flow. It looks like the answer would be a shorter shield, but, how short? I'm 5'11" and am looking through the top 4 inches or so of the existing shield. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions for HOT weather riding? THANKS in advance!
  23. +1. No experience with a Corbin on the Venture, but on my 07 FJR it was like sitting on a brick! Way too hard to be comfortable IMO. However, with that said, a lot of folks like 'em. Guess it's a good thing everyone's not alike:whistling:
  24. +1 on getting past 'em quickly. A few years ago my wife and I were on I-20 in our SUV passing a tractor trailer when a tire on the OTHER side of the trailer blew. A BIG chunk of rubber/wire came flying out from under the truck and hit the side of our car. A dent in the door, but would have been a Disaster on a bike. I try to pass 'em at warp speed when on a bike!
