  1. Oh...so that was YOU!!!!?????? I couldn't agree more.
  2. It's a truely awesome feeling riding next to your own son, Loehring. My son bought and 'remodeled'(?) his first bike, a v-45 Magna, at 15 years old. Rode that for about a year, then at 17, bought a pair of V-65 Sabres. 1 runner, and 1 parts bike. Once again he 'remodeled' it to his taste (looked like it waz straight outta the Road Warrior movie). At 17, he rode out with my wife and I to Bonneville Speed Week ('08). He graduated this last spring, and just after he turned 19, bought himself a beautiful R-6 Yamaha...that he worked hard to earn for himself. He's a wonderful young man, that has alot of personality, a great sence of humor, and has alotta self respect. Oh, and he's one hell of a good rider too! Here he is, ready to hit the road on his Sabre... http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v374/210/114/1329663307/n1329663307_30136222_2081.jpg
  3. Lucky boy! I've got as friend that has one, and I too thought they looked pretty wyld at first...but i like wierd stuff anyways. But when I sat on it, I fell in love with the balance of this sled.(he's nuts about it) Another friend has a Victory Vegas that I did get to ride, and LOVED how well it performed...so put the ride and the balance of the Vision, together with the power and performance of the Vegas???...should be an awesome motorcycle...and I wanna ride one! Lucky boy!
  4. I've seen a number of riders wearing these blaze orange, yellow, and green vests...which could do a good job. However...most of these people ride fully dressed bikes, and the ONLY part of them you can even see over the tourboxes & fairings is their helmets. And most bike accidents are getting hit from in front, or behind...right where you can't see these vests anyway. So the only bike they'll really do any good on, is one without any fairing or luggage on it. JMO

    Camping

Sorry, no pics here either...but they do have heaters, beds, and often electrical outlets in them, so all you need to bring is your bedding and your laptop. My wife & I now have a newer VR ('92), and a newer ('93) KwikKamp. We used to pull our old Trav-Lite M/C camper behind our '83 V. We seem to do the same as most on the board here, as we only get hotels in heavy rain, or on high mileage days. Otherwise, it's state campgrounds, or KOA's (which are very well equiped & usually very clean...but more $$$.) We've found some of our favorite campgrounds (privately owned), while searching out state ones. We also do the occcasional BLM land. This past September, we did the Southern Utah & Colorado National Park tour (8 parks). Had a ball!!! 28* camping in Cortez, Co...(KOA just outside of Mesa Verde NP)...but inside the KwikKamp was warm and accomidating...(space heater & WiFi movies on the laptop!) Our favorite camping spot on the whole trip...(once again by accident...looking for gas) was in Hite, Ut, which is in the Glen Canyon side of Lake Powell. BLM camping right on the edge of the lake! Georgeous camping & scenery, stars galore, very private...and within a short walk...flush potties!! (we highly recommend this place to anyone, and will be going back again!) Here's the old rig... http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/51/l_b12d8c107a0c9812a5021a5cbecfcc3e.jpg and I'll have to scan one of the new rig...
  6. I bought a '92 VR from a guy that had replaced it with the same BMW as in the first post. But I too will be heading back to my Yamaha dealer for my FJR (hopefully this coming spring) when I get ready to replace my VR. These are damn impressive motorcycles IMO...and cost is a factor for me too. Pay less for a superior product???...count me in! (kinda curious that I have a H-D too, huh??)
  7. I've got several 1st gens, and I've cut the windshield down by nearly a whole foot! I HATE tall windshields...but that's just my own opinion. (I know there's another thread about this somewhere out there.) The wind hits me right at the top of my head, which (to me) is perfect! I can see over it beautifully, and if the weather gets that bad, there's still enough there to hide behind...(but I never do). This summer on our road trip through Southern Utah, we had 70mph sidewinds...which did suck, but they wouldda blown anybody on a bike around.
  8. Hahaha....funny you should ask this... My riding partner rides a 1500 EXACTALLY like the one I used to have (in the pic). He was one of the big reasons I bought my Wing in the first place. He couldn't say enough, about how it rode, the power, the awesome engineering... So when I first got my Venture, we went out for a ride. He was alone on his Wing, and I had my teenage son on the back of my V. There's a big long grade heading South outta town here on 101 called 'Radar Hill' (can you guess why??) So my bud starts to act like he wants to race me UP this hill...and I absolutely WALKED away from him! (and I had a passenger on too!) He was quite bothered about it, and said "well, you down-shifted"........but NOPE...I didn't! This 1st Gen has so much power. I can have my wife on the back, a weeks worth of traveling gear loaded up, with our camper hooked on back...and I can drop a gear or two and pass just about everything on the road. These engines are the most awesome engines I've ever had the pleasure of owning. My only complaint about my 1st Gen V's, is that the front end rides hard when I'm alone on the bike...even after doing all the adjustments, and with progressive suspension springs. But, that's it!
  9. I've got this set of lightbars that came with my '83 that I'll never have any inclination to use. Most of the lights work, but I think with alittle wiring work, that they'd all work....(I think) There are 3 rails in all, (2 for lower bags, and 1 for top box)...and the chrome is in very good condition. I'd like $150.00 ....that sound fair??? http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/2764/p1000222q.jpg http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/2382/p1000223.jpg
  10. Been there, done that!! Had my Wing for 2 1/2 MONTHS!!!! (and it was a beaut too!) My sister and her husband came out from Wisconsin fer a visit, so I put insurance back on the Venture so they could ride the Wing, and we'd ride the old Venture. We (literally) went about 1 MILE on the old rat Venture, looked at each other and said "the heck with that Wing...this Venture is not only more comfortable to ride, it's also alot FUNNER!!" 2 weeks later, the Wing was sold, and a week after that we packed up the '83, and headed out to Bonneville Speed Week....whadda blast!!! here's the Wing... http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/61/l_1669727c18708841cdc8eb8cdeaed014.jpg and here we are out on the road coming home through Sun Valley, Idaho... http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/58/l_a52b6065157734c3d0990f1d36d34870.jpg Now I've got 4 of 'em!!!
  11. Yup! Wish I had painted the floor when I moved into my 'big' shop 11 years ago. I'm probably gonna do it this spring...but gotta move ALOTTA stuff outta the way first!
  12. End of the Venture, huh??? .....I thought they quit building Ventures back in '93!!!
  13. Eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HATE that word!!!
  14. WOW!!! What a crazy story! Yea, I'd say sue her to the wall too! Best of luck with the future proceedure...we'll all be praying for you. Keep us posted as this progresses.
  15. Have you been a good boy this year????
  16. Subarus are great cars! They last & last. (Wonder if they make motorcycles) Good Luck
  17. Actually...to a person who knows what they're doing, and has the proper tools available...this could definately be done in a week. The wiring is only the leads to the taillight system........2 hours tops! The biggest challenge had to be the driveshaft, but once you had the proper measurements, than that can be stretched in a few hours on a lathe. Not all that difficult. And from what I understand about this build, they had a good crew as well. Didn't you ever watch Monster Garage??? I build hot-rods and bikes from the ground up all the time...no problem.....but now give me a computer problem?????? :bang head:
  18. It'd have to be a handfull! With that long of a wheelbase, it would make the front end wanna flop in the corners I would think. Maybe not too bad though as they didn't change the front end geometry at all. I suppose like anything...once you got used to it, it wouldn't be too bad. I sure wouldn't want a bunch of squirely passengers on it though!
  19. Gad!...Lookit what they did to this 1st Gen Venture Royale!!?????!!!! http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c274/StarWolve/Pics%20to%20Post/imagesSchool_20Bike_small.jpg 'Corse...we all know here that NO other bike would be up to the task!!!
  20. To me...it's a very spiritual experience to ride alongside my kids (our son, & now our daughter both ride their own bikes). He's a fantastic rider (I'd like to get him on a GP bike out on a track.) We rode to Bonneville Speed Week last summer with him, and had a ball. (we're leaving Friday morning for 2 weeks in Moab, Arches, Bryce, and Yosemite....WHOO-HOO!!!) This will be a memory you folks can share for years to come.
  21. I wanna know why they let some got who just got popped for his 5th DUI...OUT OF JAIL???!!!!!! Lock that sucker up, and weld the keyhole shut!
  22. Well..thankyou very much Mr. Bobby!....that made me feel great! here's one for ya... (leo) "that's alotta gear you're wearing on such a hot day...planning on crashing???" (rider) "I see you're wearing a kevlar vest...planning on getting shot???" also..."NO...but I plan on getting back up again if I do!"
  23. Nice job Vanantwerp!!! And I like how far you set back the axle. The previous owner of my Kwik-Kamp (who sold them nationally for many years) replaced the factory alxe with a torsion bar axle, and set it 4" farther back to get more tongue weight on it. Now it pulls perfectly!!! Enjoy that extra space....it won't last long! BTW...is that Seymour, WIS???
  24. I'm a custom painter, signguy, & pinstriper by trade. I have a local customer, who has become a very good friend, that I've pinstriped his last 3 GoldWings...the last one being a trike. When he dropped it off at my shop for more work, he told me to take my wife out on it for the afternoon, and told me that we'd NEVER look back. After about only 5 miles...we already went back to the shop alright...and indeed, we did NOT look back at IT again! YUK!!!
  25. Actually, I have the entire fairing off my bike. I only have the windshield (very short) on the front...and I LOVE it!!! I can see a whole lot better, and the front end is a ton lighter...so now it really handles fantastic!!! (sorry, no pics of my rat!). it looks like crap..which is fine with me. (everybody asks if I crashed my bike and busted off my fairing!!!) hahahaa
