I have two of theirs, one on my V-Star 1100 and another on my DL/1000 Suzuki. No problems, good fit. I'd buy another in a heart beat. -
I read something lately (I think in AARP) that the way to go to avoid the fees upon fees and get good customer service is to go with a Credit Union. As for B of A they want to be the "Walmart" of the banking industry. I guess that means to only hire minimum wage part time employees to handle your money.

Looks like y'all had a pretty good turn out. I was hoping to try and make it but I still can't sit on the bike. Knowing that it's going to be sitting for awhile I rode it down the street to top off the gas and add Seafoam. Didn't think I'd make it the 1/4 mile back home. Don't know how long it's going to take for my tail bone to heal, too dang long for sure!

For a RSTD with 40K miles the price is too high. A quick search of the internet shows a number of 2005 RSV with less than half that mileage for $8k. Several in TX, one in MI, one in NY and one with only 6,800 miles. When I bought mine (used and hundreds of miles from home) my wife and I drove up to see it, checked it over. My wife followed me back in the car. Felt safer knowing I had back up on a new-to-me bike and extra tools if needed. Although I'm not a new rider either. An RSV/TD is not a small bike. Some folks will deliver a bike to you if you pay for their return trip. And if you find one out of state post a note and I'm sure someone in the area can swing by and check it out, take pictures for you and probably know the owner.

Thanks Ponch. Looks like the site I was hunting for the LEDs. About the side lights on the trunk. I can see the wire going between the arm rest and the trunk. But how do you get the two apart to get the wire between them?
-
I would like to mount yellow LED "trunk side lights" to my trunk as additional turn signals. As shown in the following picture on one of the Texas folks bike. My question is how did you get the wire between the arm rest and trunk. I have never taken either off. Since It looks like I'm not going to be riding for most of the summer due to injury (broke my tail bone) and can't sit down I may as well farkel the bike. Thanks ps. To Ponch. Where did you purchase the LED replacement bulbs for your bike? I have spent over $50 on LED bulbs at Autozone/NAPA and am very disappointed in them. They are no brighter than stock incandescent bulbs. Except for passing lights and headlight I plan to replace every light (even dash) with LEDS. Thanks again. http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk100/aharbi/Motorcycle/P6271197.jpg

When my girls were little and living at home. I would take each one with me on a car drive across town to help me get something. It didn't matter what I was picking up it was the long ride that mattered. And as you found out, they just opened up and told me all about their life and plans and friends. I never had to ask anything just nod my head, and occasionally "is that right, no kidding, thats nice". I miss those drives.

Thanks for sharing. Lost my Dad back in 1994. The pain is gone now but not the missing him. The older I get the more I realize what he gave to raise the family and serve our country (WWII). I can only hope, someday my kids may hold me in as high regard as I do him.

The rumor I heard has the following changes: 8 track tape deck (option) 6V electric system & generator spark advance lever next to front brake lever fuel/air mixture lever replacing clutch lever foot clutch with shift lever on right side of gas tank ABS drum brakes BOTH front & rear cast iron rims 6 tube AM radio steering damper knob compression release lever and kick start! (but I don't believe the 6 cylinder two cycle engine part)

Thom, you may wish to look at the Nuvi 500/550 GPS. Less than 1/2 price of a Zumo, is waterproof, lasts 8hr on battery charge. Hold either 1,000 or 500 waypoints and 10 routes. Has motorcycle mounts available. Just a thought.

I have heated grips yet my finger tips still get cold. I've bought several pair of "winter riding gloves", snowmobile gloves, glove liners, etc. If you do much cold weather riding bite the bullet and get a pair of electric heated gloves. Well worth the $135 bucks.

Red light runners should be fined $1,500 each offense and given 5 points. Running a red light is as bad if not worse than passing a school bus with flashing lights on.

I guess I'm fortunate. My dealer charged me $145 for a rear ME880 (I know, I know, but I've been running them on two of my bikes and have never ever had a problem) and $18 to balance & mount including greasing the splines. This is his going rate if you buy the tires from him.

Now, I love my wife dearly and would never intentionally deceive her. However, over the years I have been trained (by her) in the art of "not spending". Also, when it comes to safety she never argues about the coast of anything if it has the potential to return me safely home. Also, anything that fits in the "cute" category is automatically cost justified. Gremlin bells, leather vests with fringe fall into this category. Tattoos however do not. 1) she truly believes there is such a thing as safety chrome. (bless her) 2) I got it on "sale" I saved us money. (learned from her) 3) Oh this "old thing" I've had it on my bike for years. (her version is Oh this old thing I've had in my closet for years...) 4) But I got this for you/us I though you'd appreciate it. I was only thinking of you. (only works for riding gear, comfort items (seats, back rests, arm rests) 5) It doesn't make your butt look big at all in fact it looks even... (a sure winner cost justifier)

+1 agree, got three bikes, dual sport, mid cruiser, tourer. Mix & match on each of them, never any problems. But I wouldn't mix street & dirt tires on the same bike.

Is no V-Star 1800. A 250, 650, 1100, 1300. Then Road Star 1700. Honda makes a VTX 1800. Is it shaft or belt?

+1 same here ATGATT. In the Texas summer heat I will wear a long sleeve cool vest under my mesh jacket. I couldn't ride all summer they way I do in the Texas heat without one. I have a cool vest with zippered sleeves. I'm very pleased with them (I have several, spare, clean, dirty) With a rare exception it will last all day 6-8hrs (11am - 5pm). I lightly ring it out (not sopping wet) put it on over a t-shirt and wear a mesh riding jacket over the vest. Yes, the t-shirt gets wet when I first put it on, but you don't notice it after a couple of miles (better than wet with sweat). I find the sleeves are a big help. Wearing it for me means the difference of riding or not in the Texas summer. Insulate your skin from the heat. It may seem counter-intuitive to wear protective clothing on a hot day, but you NEED to cover your exposed skin. Think of the desert nomads that spend their whole lives traveling in the desert with their camels: They ALL wear garments that cover their entire body and head. In real simple terms, exposed skin on a hot day is not only subject to sunburn, but bare skin soaks up MORE heat from the sun. If the outside temperature is higher than your normal body temperature (36.8°C or 98.2°F), and if your bare skin is exposed to the heat, your body temperature has no where to go but up. I have ridden on days where it is cooler in my helmet then the outside air temp. I have opened my FF shield and can feel a noticeable blast of hot air. Your helmet is lined with Styrofoam, it IS a cooler. If your skin is covered, you are insulating yourself from the heat. It may "feel" good (particularly on shorter rides) to take your jacket off on hot days, but it is pushing your body into the range of dehydration symptoms even faster. (1) I also keep several frozen quart water bottles in the freezer for ready use to ride. Always have cold water as they thaw. Keep them in a soft insulated cooler bag. I keep a wash cloth wrapped around one of the bottles, always damp and cool for a refreshing wash of my face. In addition I carry two bottles of water that I freely hand out to other riders in trouble of dehydration. I am surprised at the frequency I have come across these riders. More on how to protect yourself Riding in the heat can be found on the Long Distance Riders site. http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk100/aharbi/IMG_2266.jpg

I just look ahead for a place to pull/turn off to get them off my back side. Most of the time after I hit the turn signal and slow down they go around me. I have found the biggest offender is young ladies. I really don't think they know they are tailgating. Second is young bucks and their pickup trucks. Yesterday I got immediate Justice. Young buck in pickup truck pushing me down the road. I slowed down, moved close to the shoulder and waved him around. Three miles down the road he was chatting with State Police. I tooted and waved as I went past. Most of the cops know when they have an aggressive drive when folks wave and toot approval as they pass. I've also been known to call in the license, make, model and driver description reporting the driver is either ill, or perhaps been drinking or on drugs due to their erratic driving.
