How long have you been smelling this? If this is a first time deal or if it has just started in the last couple of rides, take a look at the underside of your pipes to see if you picked up something that is cooking down there... I know it might be a little gross, but I got a small animal at some point and didn't know it until I stopped and started smelling something pretty awful... Also, you say it smells like exhaust - but maybe you ought to carefully check your radiator and radiator hoses for small cracks or whatever. I know that hot coolant has a distinct smell, but, your description being a little vague (and it being difficult to describe smells) it is something else to check... Good luck

Totally puzzled !!

Welcome! Sounds like you have the same problem as here: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?threadid=41686 Looks like a cleaning and greasing of the stator terminals and such may be in order. I'm sure someone else will chime in with more usefull information. Cheers and Good luck! -Rick M. -
Very true... :mo money: Probably wouldn't be worth it financially. I'm sure that there are not enough RSVs on the road for a company to become real profitable from these anyways so it probably wouldn't even come close to paying out... But there is still a principle involved... just my

If they have their items patented, then they could possible pursue patent infringement (or whatever the technical term for that is).

Yea, it is a comin... The lows are already in the 50's and the high today is only 77! (Which is a good break from yesterday's 90) Yup, I miss alot of things about northern Michigan but winter from October to May is NOT one of them. You enjoy that S*** for all of us.

This has been a very entertaining thread. I just smile and wave to all fellow motorcycle enthusiasts; I don't give a *** what they are on. If they smile and wave back, terrific, if they don't do anything, fine; if they get disgruntled and flick me off (which has happened) I just laugh. I think the harder these people try to be 'badass' or whatever, the funnier it makes it. I just can't help but laugh to see some folks cruising along, no helmet, no eye protection, no windshield, and arms way above their head being all tough and too cool to acknowledge anyone on the road - I just cannot help think to myself, 'how can one enjoy the ride if they have to concentrate SO hard on being so 'cool'?' Anyways, I think that it is hilarious... Especially when folks like that flick you off for puttering by turning, smiling and waving. With all of this said, I find the vast majority of motorcyclists that I have run into have been descent people. All I can say to the rest is keep it up because the harder you try the harder it makes me laugh.

This is my understanding as well. That is, after 15 days the trial period expires which I believe denies them access.

No problem; Ponch messaged me already to let me know - thanks for the follow up though. You'll enjoy 287 much more than you would any road in or out of Lubbock anyway! See you there

I actually just noticed it today on the way home from my office. I felt the hub and it was not hot or anything, but I do agree that riding is probably not wise until I figure out if it is in-fact, the bearings or not... Which I did not think about until after I had made the post about doing the bearings at the MD... Jerry: Thanks, I'm thinking I'll get this taken care of before the 17th. Brian: I can take it as well as dish it out so watch out

Would front wheel bearings be too much to do on a maintenance day? I have managed to develop a slight sqeak that I only hear at low speeds and seems to go with wheel rotation (regardless of gear and whether the clutch is in or not) so I presume the front wheel bearings need replaced. I have an adapter, but I do not have a jack... If I can get my hands on a jack I'll probably get it done before we all meet, but, if not and it is not to much; it would be appreciated... Looking meeting everyone. - Rick M.

HAHA! There is a small town called Beaver, WI that I used to drive through on my way up to the UP from where my parents lived in Illinois. If I recall correctly it is off of 141 quite close to the MI/WI border. I'll let you know when I get up there - at least get out for ice cream or lunch or something. Shipping for that bad boy is not near as bad as I had expected... - Rick M.

Have not had my venture out in the winter yet, since I picked it up this spring... But as long as there is not ice on the ground and the roads have not been sanded/salted; I'm on a bike. I have ridden in the snow a few times (not by choice - I was out and far away from home and it started on me... Thanks a lot to the Upper Peninsula Michigan weather...) I don't have heated gear. I have a nice winter jacket that got me through a couple winters living just off of Lake Superior (in da U.P., eh?) That keeps my upper body plenty warm on the bike. For my legs I go with a pair of non-insulated wind pants (water-proof and block the wind quite well); they also pack real small and get stowed in my bike and used for the rain. Nothing special on my feet; good pair of winter gloves for my hands and a 1/2 ski-mask for my mouth and nose (when it gets below 30 F or so) and stick with the open face helmet for my head.

I have done rocker rust repairs on many (2 and 3 year) lease returns (some were Ford Taurus). Granted this was in Michigan, but regardless, there is absolutely no reason that a car that may have been sold in Fall of 2001 (that is 8 years) might have completely rusted out rocker panels. The plastic trip on cars like that and the metal lip on the inside of the rocker collect moisture, mud and salt. The plastic traps moisture between the trip and the body just as well as a cup hold water.

:thumbsup2: Now... What is under that car cover?

+1 to replacing the battery. If you do not know how old it is and plan on taking any long rides that you might be far away from anything and need/want to turn it off (ie. for fuel or sight seeing) then it would be (in my opinion) wise to go ahead and replace it. These things are a bear to run/push it up to speed and pop the clutch (don't ask how I figured this one out)

The only way the dealer would be liable is if you could prove that there was some to prove that the rust or weak parts were a result from the car being knowingly repaired by the dealer (or under the dealer's ownership when repaired) when the frame or other parts were to damaged to be safely repaired and should have been totaled. I don't know that it is called the lemon law, but there is some protection for the buyer (at least in Illinois, Michigan and Texas) for consumers against used car dealers. Dealers are supposed to inspect their cars and have the structure certified BEFORE they sell the car. If it was just the rocker panels that were rusted then you have nothing to worry about (nor, in my opinion, is there any structural integrity issues with the car). Cars that have plastic trim along the bottom with little lips that come up trap dirt, salt and moisture in there and rot the panels out. I don't know why manufactures claim the rocker panels are a good lift point (I have seen a lot of mini-vans that way too) because those things are so weak it is uddery ridiculous; even right out of the factory. New rocker panels to be cut and welded in place (assuming there is enough metal left to have something to weld to) are really cheap and pretty easy to put in. The body shop I used to work at would buy them at some aftermarket source for the Ford Tarus for somewhere around 30 or 40 bucks for each side and a few hours for the install (plus paint, of course). Sorry to hear about your troubles

The "Talk" button on the passenger arm rest works the same way the 'talk' button does for the driver; that is, it opens the mic for CB communication. All the passenger has to do to communicate (verbally anyways) with the driver is start yapping... Or whatever it may be The volume control on the passenger arm rest only controls the volume of the passenger's headset speakers. Which means they can turn you down/off but can still talk if they choose to.
