I helped a Michigan member with a "noise" on his 1st gen. It turned out to be that the output shaft where the u joint and driveshaft hook up to was broken. I have heard of this happening a few times and he ended up removing the engine and replacing the shaft. http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/parts/home.aspx Put in the pertinant info and go to middle drive gear. It's part # 4 in the drawing.

Robert, Many of us use the Kuryakyn trunk bag on the top of the trunk rack http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=honda&ci=2811 Yamaha also makes one but it's the same thing as the Kuryakyn and costs more

Cool Beans!!! Good on all 3 of you, have fun with your new one

John, 1st gen chrome is hard to find and if it's in good shape you will pay top dollar for it. Ebay is the only place that I know of that consistantly has 1st gen parts On a 1st gen you have to be creative and fabricate your own stuff.

I agree with you Jerry, different strokes for different folks. It's kinda like an oil thread

Denny, Just a quick question, how much money do you think your going to spend making it? The reason I ask this is because you might be surprised that after it's done you spent more than perhaps buying one outright. I have built several trailers for myself and other members. A minimum of $450 is a good number to keep in mind. There are lots of extras that can pop up. I dont know if you have looked at the Piggy Backer, but it is a nice trailer for reasonable money http://piggybacker.stehltow.com/ I dont know how handy you are, it could get over your head quick, I'm not saying that to be mean. Just that I have been fabricating for many years, and would hate to see you pull your hair out. I have some pics that I have to dig up...let me see what I can come up with. Here is another site about building, it's a bit dated, but gives good advise http://www.gadgetjq.com/trailer.htm

As was mentioned, there will be lots of replies, and most of them different. I am no expert, but I do sometimes speak my mind here ...so here goes. I love Avons...Period I have has 3 sets of them on 3 different bikes and they handle fantastic for me. I dont get the marathon miles out of them as I like to play in the twisties when I'm alone on the bike. They stick like glue and my Ventures has handled way better with them than all the others I have had. My last set of tires on my '99 were the Michelin Commanders....and the rear one blew out at 75 mph, and totalled the bike....no more Michelins for me I have had a set of the Dunlop Elite II's on a 1st gen, they are a decent tire, but were loudest of all I have run. They are a harder compound and will get good mileage, but they dont stick as well as I would like them to. Metzler 880's Had a set on mt 1st '99 and they were a reasonable tire. They stuck well and were pretty quiet, but I personally know of a half dozen folks who had chunks come out of the 880's....I wont run Metzlers either for that reason. There are lots of variables that go into purchasing tires. How you ride is a big factor. If your a highway man and just pound the hell out of the miles on the superslabs, the Dunlops get decent mileage. But if you like to get it down in the twisties...I dont know that I would want them. My Dunlops always seemed to follow cracks and tar snakes in the road, thats annoying. My bike will forever be with Avon venoms on them, of all the tires I have tried, they perform the best for my riding. So you really need to figure out what type of rider you are and go from there. BTW....They should throw all Bridgestones out of the country, worst tire I have ever seen or ridden on a Venture.....OK off my soapbox now

89 venture exhaust question
Squidley replied to BJB's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Boomer, There have been some color variations between the USA and Canada. As long as it looks like a good paint job with no overspray your probably safe Pick a bike and come back on with whatever questions pertain to your new bike -
Hate to say it but your going to have to go out and try helmets on. That is the only sure fire way to get something that fits you right and is comfortable. I have used several different mfgrs, the latest being Gmax which we had on during our accident. I have had several differnt ones Shoei, Nolan, Bell. I am pretty happy with the Gmax, but it may not fit you. 1 thing to remember with helmets is that get something approved Snell or DOT. Once a helmet has been in an accident, throw it away, it's a 1 time deal.

Fred, This is what I had on my '99, it will work on the 1st gens too They are also a silverstar vendor to the site http://www.hoonhardware.com/

Wayne, I do have J&M on our 1/2 helmets, and the mic is a bit longer to accomodate that. My setup was expensive as I had to purchase the pieces individually. It sounds great coming across and I use the bikes speakers as I dont have headsets in the 1/2 helmets. If your coming to the M&E on Saturday I can show you what I have and you can make a decision

Getting rid of some items from my '99
Squidley replied to Squidley's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Stan, I had them attached with 3m dual sided tape and 2 small screws, never had an issue with them. Bartley, They are part of the stock bike and will be going with it when I get the payoff for the bike. Besides the bolt wont come out so I couldn't even if we could make it happen
