I don't really think of Kentucky folks as northerners, (read Yankees) but I guess y'all are pretty far north. Y'all know we got teachers down heah too, right? Were you trippin' over the Browner each time?

23 and out??? Is that enough to retire? I was in Marietta, out of the Roswell building. 8 years was enough! We'll have to trade war stories one day!

Great lean angle! I want one,.......errr...when I get old that is!

I missed it in the other thread (and can't find that now). What caused the Wing to conk out the first time?

We're talking about a ride this Sunday. If we end up in Helen I'll give you a call! Any idea what time you'll be around? Have you seen this thread Second Annual North Ga. M&E 3-29 (MRE&R!), only an hour or so down from Chattanooga! Yeah, the 60s were good! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_11_1.gifhttp://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_11_5.gifhttp://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_11_23.gif But I still don't understand why you can't see the pics. I'm using FireFox but I even opened IE7 and checked. They came in there too!

A friend of mine just got new rubber on his Shadow Spirit and decided it was time to go scuff them in, so we took off yesterday at about 11:00 am. It was already close to 60f. We rode up 575/515 to Ellijay, Ga and then took what we refer to as the Blue Ridge Bypass. It's a back road (Boardtown, I think) that comes out on hwy 5 past Blue Ridge. (Here is where I started feeling guilty! I thought "Man, I should've called Brokespur!" but we were already past his place. Sorry Ken, my bad!) We took a left and went up hwy 68, which is a great ride in itself, to Tellico Plains Tn. Grabbed a jalepeno burger at Hardies and jumped on the Cherohala Skyway. Great ride, temp dropped to 51, little traffic, only had to pass two cars the whole way. Just had to watch out for gravel and other "winter debris". There was a surprising amount of snow on the slopes on the south side of the road above four thousand feet. At one point there was a strip of snow/ice on the road that was about 5 feet long. I pointed it out to Gary and watched in my mirror as he proceeded to ride right down the length of it! Proves you can ride on ice and not go down. Also proves you go where you look! After that we rode up to the Dragon, the store is open for the season again. We asked about the conditions on the road and they said it is white from the winter salt and some places have piles a couple of inches deep. Even so we rode it pretty hard, you just had to keep an eye on things a little more. I only slid once on some salt. It was a superb ride up and back. Quite a few people there for a Thursday, but nothing like the weekends. We wanted to do another run but it was already 10 minutes to 5 and we wanted to make Bike Night at Hooters Canton. We were still 2 1/2 hours away! It was the first "Official" bike night, although a friend and I have been going almost every Thursday night thru' the winter, lowest temp we saw was 27f. Last night saw about 50-60 bikes. After Bike Night I rode with another friend to escort a lady friend, that rides a Road King, home before heading home myself. All in all I did 401 miles yesterday and managed to ride to the Sky, slay a Dragon, drink beer, look at some nice bikes and escort a lady home! (I won't claim to be a gentleman:rotf:) Man, it don't get much better!!!

Hey Bull, (or is it Hey Pit:rotfl:) I rode from Ga.-NM-SD-Id-Mt-Wy-Ks-Ar-Ga last summer with a bead caver on my seat and really liked it. I used the small, black one made for a mc. Year before I had a natural color one made for a car and my friends called it my "Rashid the taxi driver seat"! But that size is cheaper and will cover your passenger seat as well. When you start getting a little sore you can adjust a quarter inch or so and be comfortable again. In the heat it is a lot cooler, but in the cold it is even colder! I don't use it in the winter.

1989 Venture Oil Leak - HELP!
86er replied to jfarr53's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If it is the clutch rod seal and it gets worse, you will find that you get lost in a cloud of smoke when you stop! I know this from experience. Having ridden 7K miles last summer with that problem, adding up to 1/2 quart of oil per day! -
I put new plates in my clutch last august and also added an extra spring plate. It definitely hooks up now!!! The only problem is that it just barely disengages. It's real close to the grip.

Uhhhhhhh, put on your glasses Reiny! They're right there in the body of the post on my box. (and if they aren't there....I must be reliving the 60s!)

OK, Jack! Here are the pics of how I mounted my GPS holder. It took me a while to borrow a camera. (No, I didn't take them 01/01/08! I just changed the batteries!) This is on the left handlebar and I just used two zip ties. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e138/TMagEnterprises/Extra%20Junk/gps4.jpg I'm running out of room! The leather thing is my bottle/cup holder that I made from an old UPS belt. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e138/TMagEnterprises/Extra%20Junk/gps1.jpg For power I plugged into a power outlet that I have hanging in the fairing by the radios and ran the cord up through the louvered side piece. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e138/TMagEnterprises/Extra%20Junk/gps3.jpg The unit just snaps in. I mounted this just before my trip last summer so it has lasted over12k miles. It hasn't even rotated or slipped any. http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e138/TMagEnterprises/Extra%20Junk/gps2.jpg It is also easy to glance at in the twisties to see how much curve you're getting into! I don't like the built in position on the Gold Wing, you have to look too far off the road.

Now that is a SCHWEEEEET bike! Good score!
-
Does the 83-85 use different springs than the 86 up? There's nothing in my clutch that looks like that!
-
I also heard that it can use the radar on an AWACS so that it doesn't even have to light up the enemy. No emissions is real stealth!

I saw the F22 fly formation with a P-51 and and F15 at the Sun-N-Fun show in 07. The Raptor took off first and I looked up while the others were taking off and the F22 was very high, but NOT moving!!! It was staying in one place, I'm talking hovering, here! I guess they told him "Don't worry about the fuel!". And to see those 3 generation of planes fly together sent shivers down my spine. The F15 has the best flight record of any plane. There has never been one shot down, ever. On a History Channel show on the Raptor, they interviewed a pilot. They asked what it was like to fly that plane. He said "I've flown the F15 and the f22, and I've flown the F22 against the f15, and all I can say is....It's just like clubbing baby seals!"

Whew! From the tittle of the thread, I thought you had already dropped it!!! Congrats on the new ride and your right, the temps won't matter too much; you'll be too busy diggin' the new scoot!

The link that Dave posted has them for 29.95. I don't know what is in mine or where to get it with chemical crystals. But ask Yammer Dan, I think his neighbors make their own chemical crystals!?!?

Gee, Randy, you shoulda called me; that was in my monthly church newsletter. Gosh, it was verbatim, too! hmmmmmm

:wow:And senator Shirley Love is a democrat!

Glad you're home safe, Lowell! And since you didn't even wave as you went by Atlanta, I think this might fill out your calendar Second Annual North Ga. M&E 3-29! And you don't even need to tote a trailer this year!

American Idol?!?! http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/10/10_4_2.gifhttp://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_19_7.gif Oh yeah, and after 40 years with a guitar, I still SUCK! But I make myself happy with it. And my Baby Taylor fits in an airplane overhead or on the back of the bike.
