If you ever get your hands on the RSTD shop manual, you'll see it is the RSV manual with an addendum for the RSTD. All the addendum covers is the headlamp, windscreen, passenger seat, fuel tank, cruise control, and electrical differences. About half are replacement pages of electrical diagrams, since the RSV has that fairing and cassette player that the RSTD does not. There are not replacements for mechanical systems, because they are just the same. Seems to me that there are tips on how to keep your throttle slack, since the RSTD is so much faster than the RSV. Well, if Tuesday night rolls around and you can't get it done, I'm willing to ride over and help. There's a lot of time between dark o'clock and light o'clock to install a fuel pump. And besides, I want to see how you light up the night with that HID of yours! Dave

And seriously, if you need me to ride there tomorrow to babysit the pygmies while you work, let me know. I have it mind to head to Abita and retrieve a growler of the good stuff if yer done in time. Dave

Any word on when Four Corners will reopen? I'll be there around Labor Day (September). Thanks for the North Rim info too. We're planning to camp on the rim, but who knows what weather will be like? Edit: this says, ** Closures until September 2010 for construction, call before traveling. ** ** Open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays for Summer ** Dave

Hmmm, this seems familiar? It's not a hard job. Boomer, if you need me to come over on Friday, let me know. It's my day off and I like to ride. Dave

Need Brighter Lights ( headlight & passing lights)
Dave77459 replied to hunthomer66's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Yes, those HID lights are bright. Bright as in, 'hurts to look at them bright'. I haven't seen them at night, but I can't wait. I also have my passing lamps on full time. On low beam they give me the triangle of light that helps other motorists perceive my motion. On high beam, they presently give me fill light on the ditches. Dave -

2005 RSTD HID Light Installation
Dave77459 replied to tsigwing's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I think Buddy Rich said he added one, because of the voltage drop when the starter turns over affecting the ballast. So he gets the bike running, then turns on the light. I guess I'll order it today, so that it's not the slow link. I think we all know who the slow link is. Dave -
2005 RSTD HID Light Installation
Dave77459 replied to tsigwing's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I was there when Boomer rode up the street and blinded us from three blocks away. Then, you hopped on and outshone the sun. It's BRIGHT! Do you think I need to worry about putting on a switch to save my battery? Dave -
2005 RSTD HID Light Installation
Dave77459 replied to tsigwing's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Can you give an update on how you like it? How is it at night? Do you have it on a separate switch, or is it turning on with the ignition? I've delayed because I want to add the Kury clutch cover-switch block, and would switch the light there to save the battery during start. But if there isn't an issue, maybe I'll just go ahead and buy it now. Dave -
Its official

I have been getting low to mid 30s on Houston fuel -- heavy on the additives. I've gotten 40s when out of town and not dropping the hammer. I think 156 is the farthest I've ever gotten on a tank of gas, and that was with 30 miles on the low fuel count-up. Yes, that's right Tom. Smaller tank + big windscreen + heavy wrist == RSTD Dave

I read this advice from a guy, who bought cheap underwear for the purpose when traveling overseas. I like your advice even better! Dave

I'm planning on being there!

You were thinking of putting RKs on? I'd say do it. You can always go back. Of course, I got my pipes for free by asking the H-D dealer, so I just paid for clamps and brackets. It seems to me that I am getting better mileage too. Usually I am on low fuel at 114 miles, but I went 124 today with two bars left. I can easily see rotating around the different pipes. My bike does sound more impressive with the RKs on, and it feels faster for some reason. Different pipes for different reasons, I guess. Dave

I have a couple long trips coming up, and decided I wanted to put the stock mufflers back on. A quieter ride == better rider endurance. First off, I'd forgotten how good she sounds with the stock pipes. Not throaty and race-car like, but strong and powerful. Sneaky fast. Secondly, I'd forgotten how hard it is to judge shift points with the stock pipes. I really didn't learn to ride her hard until I'd put on the Road King mufflers and could hear the engine wind up. Today, following a pair of Harleys, I couldn't hear when I reached the rev limiter. Not that it matters so much when you have a couple slow pokes in front of you, but a few times I let them ride ahead a bit so that I could zoom out. If you are new to the RSV/RSTD world and have come from V-twins, I think you ought to try some louder pipes so you know how to rev it higher than the twin. Third, I had to relearn to start my bike first so that I could hear it running. LOL I like the F-1 sound the RKs give me, no doubt. They will be going back on between trips. But for now, I'm digging the stock pipes! Anyone else return to the stock pipes? Dave

TYVM! I have the RSTD, so it looks like 6-pins for me. Now I just need to win the Lotto! Dave

You need to buy the JMCB-2003-DU plus headsets plus antenna? What headsets did you get? Antenna? I might do something different than the Scala Rider G4 in a do-over. Dave

I have a light silver 3/4 helmet and a black 1/2 helmet. When I put them on after lunch, the silver one is not even warm. The black cooks my scalp. At speed, the black is cooler... it's a 1/2 helmet, duh. My next helmet will be black and white. The white will keep me cool, while the black part will make cagers tend to get out of my way. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41tbQHA3hqL._SS500_.jpg

Comments. I also got a set of Kuryakn Switchblade pegs with the Longhorn Offset mounts. Discussed. You might, in fact, check out the entire Royal Star Tour Deluxe Owners unite! thread to see what all people have done. Congrats on your choice! Dave
