Hi Wayne I can't help you on the 1st gen but on the 2nd gen the PTT button is on the left side behind the mirror mount area. I believe one of the members is some how connected with Mic Mutes...do a search and you will find all kinds of info. Keith

I bought mine from Wingstuff as well and got nailed at the door for another $50. Guys have a look at Mic-Mutes.......well worth the money IMHO...I found without them the wind noise was very annoying to say the least. http://mic-mutes.com/ Keith

Hi Ken I just recently finished my garage that I started last Aug. I too looked for advice on what to cover the concrete with. All the paint people recommended using either oil or latex.....they seemed to indicate one was as good as the other. One thing they all mentioned was if a vehicle was going to be parked on it the heat from the tires would release the paint ? The epoxy sounded like a better way to go but is quite expensive. I talked to the concrete people who poured my floor and they strongly suggested that I stay away from paint because its natural that the concrete will have moisture and the paint would lift in spots after time. They sold me a product called Flortec 14 its a clear product and so far has worked well and is easily touched up. It is affected by oil and gas. http://www.sika.ca/con-tds-flortec-ca.pdf Hope this helps..... Keith

I picked mine up locally but these guys have the same mud flap. You will have to drill your fender under the chrome trim piece. Just use some flat headed bolts.....I used a brass brake block bolt to install mine and put some black silicone above the edge to avoid any dirt/water hanging there. Tire change detail questions
KeithR replied to Venturing Sole's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had both my tires replaced this summer (different times) at a fairly large Yamaha/Honda dealer and both times when I went to pick them up they told me they had to remove the rotors to do the installation. When I dropped them off they didn't think they had to but did after. So I guess it must all depend on the changer they use ? Keith -
Greg Here are a couple of photo's of the open trunk lid. The second one is as far as it will go. Hope this helps Keith

Last year when I first got my bike my better half didn't know how to close the trunk lid and kinda forced it down...bent the assembly pretty good. I went to the dealer and asked them to check the price for me, after a few days they called me and said they had it ordered ($85) and would cover it under warranty. That was great and all was well till a few weeks ago ! I put my bike into have the rear intercom assembly replaced because of a missing PTT button. The "tech" at the dealer didn't know how to close it either so he bent the new one all out of shape. They replaced it and said they would get it covered under warranty, I'm not sure how they handled it but it was of no cost to me. So check it out it should be a warranty item ! Keith

I did the same procedure as Eck......I felt the same way about drilling but the damage I was getting to my Wagner Grill helped me make up my mind ! I used a flat head brass screw and also filled the gap/ledge on the inside of the fender above the flap with silicone so nothing would hang up there. Keith

I added a SOMA light from Rivco....looks like it was factory install and is a brake/running light. Its a bit pricey, but its very bright and easy to install. The ignition is not on in the pic....illuminated from flash. Keith http://saturn.dnsprotect.com/~rivcopro/products/product.php?productid=440&cat=202&page=1

This is an E Mail I sent to Yamaha last July and the reply they sent Keith QUESTION: Please explain to me why accessories in Canada are 40% - 50% higher. I did a comparison between Yamaha.com & Yamaha.ca. It really encourages shopping south of the border. Which I plan to do. Being Canadian we like to support our Canadian brothers but with pricing like that, you are making it difficult. I would really like an explanation, A lot of my fellow riders are as upset as I am. The Reply: Good morning. It is impossible to simply answer this type of inquiry regarding pricing between US and Canadian products. There are many variables and fluctuations and the exchange rate today is not necessarily the rate fixed when the prices were initially negotiated. Different import expenditures, volume purchasing (300 million vs. 32 million), and different associated costs of operating in Canada vs. the USA. Such dilemmas are shared by Yamaha and other importers and manufacturers. We believe our prices are fair and appropriate. I regret you feel compelled to shop in the USA. Yamaha and our dealerships try to make our prices as competitive as possible and believe they are compatible with Canadian competitors. Regards, Scott

I have the adapter that allows you to plug a set of ear buds (1/8") plug into the audio system. I tried it the other day with a half helmet and it was ok but you will still get a lot of wind noise. It would be better with a 3/4 helmet I would think. I have the low end J & M's from Wingstuff and find them alright for conversation but not for music, most likely with the Mic-Mutes that would improve. Mic-Mutes are on the to do list this winter . We rode the first year without headsets and find it a much more enjoyable ride with them. Keith

Does your cooling fan come on??
KeithR replied to dragerman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have 20,000 Km's on my 2006 RSMV and I would say I've heard my fan no more than 3 times. When it does come on it will shut off when you turn off the ignition tho and not stay running till cool down. Keith -
I just picked up my bike from the shop. I had it in to get both "Y" pipes replaced but the RH one came in damaged. This is a pic of where the LH was leaking....nothing visible in the way of a crack but must be because of a bad crimp. The RH seems to be the worst of the 2, I'll post a pic when that one is replaced. Keith

You can also buy them on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Passing-Lamp-Spacer_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35598QQihZ004QQitemZ140157177639QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Keith

I had mine replaced a month or so ago on warranty. The dealer did say that the service people offered to send just the button but I would have to glue it on....I think not! The dealer did mention to me that the Service people at Yamaha Head Office made a comment that this would be the last one they would be doing under warranty. So I guess they are trying to get out of replacing them, maybe if you have trouble getting them to replace the whole unit they can come up with the part number for just the button. Mine looked like it just screwed on. I have to put mine back in the shop so they can reroute the wires so they aren't hanging down on the fender and up inside where they belong ! It seems to be a common problem so the warranty shouldn't be an issue ! Good Luck Keith

I can't see where they are cracked...maybe cracked is the wrong term....from what I gather the weld is bad in the area where the front and rear pipes meet. On mine it was easy enough to feel when you put your fingers up behind the "Y". I'm getting a gas/fume smell mostly on acceleration. When they replace mine I will get some pic's if possible (next week hopefully). Keith
