    Aren't Liquid Cooled engines MUCH better than Air Cooled? I thought I had read / heard that Air Cooled can't do the miles w/out rebuilds now and then. craigr

    We just got back from a W/E trip to Indianapolis this past W/E, to & from Omaha, NE. We rode in rain from Indy to St. Louis, otherwise the weather was just cool. We pulled my trailer both ways. We went for a charity ride in Indy with mostly HDs. I really felt like the 'odd man out' and even considered trading my Venture to be one of the HD crowd. I just can't do it!! This bike is awesome. After driving to and from work yesterday, I never realized how rough riding my Truck is. - The Venture is just THAT smooth!!. If / when they come up with a third generation Venture, they are really going to have a high mark to beat with the 2nd Gens. craigr

    I too bought a Tank Bib and Bag covers from Troy. - Last Fall or so. They came pretty quck, with instructions, but I have yet to put them on. Just laziness I guess. If you can't get the instructions from him, let me know and I can email them to you. Make sure you post pics of of your bike with them on. craigr

    Ah yes, I took more than a couple of those naps. Just wrapped my arms up around the front end and take a 'cat nap'. I didn't even have to worry about snoring, the blairing radio and air tools from coworkers would drown it out. craigr

    Now this is just something to think about... In 08, I was riding a 99 Kaw Vulcan Classic. I was wanting a newer bike and was wanting to stay with Kawasaki. Unfortunately, Kaw no longer made a full dress Touring bike. The closest they had was the Nomad, which wasn't much more than what I already had. So, I asked a couple of dealers if there were any rumors about them coming back out with the Voyager. Both dealers said there were rumors, but that there are always rumors. 'It could be a few years if ever.' So, I went looking at other brands and bought my Venture. Sure enough, Kaw came out with their New Voyager! Don't get me wrong, I don't regret my choice, but.... craigr

    While browsing Harbor Freight this past w/e, (something I often do - but shouldn't), I bought one of their NonContact Thermometers - http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96451 I thought among other uses, I could use it on my Venture to make sure all cylinders are firing the same. I have read other posts on here about just this thing. The problem is that THIS one apparently doesn't like chrome. I get temps that are all over the range. One was 424°F, others were around 180°F. So, I tried to point it at the black on the cylinder head as close to the exhaust port as I could get. Which isn't going to give me what I am after. BTW, the bike runs fine, I was just curious. Oh well, it's a nice toy that works otherwise. If you happen to have one, are you having the same problem? Also, after immediately getting the batteries in it, am I the only guy that the first thing I did was point it at my wife's backside? - Like I said, it's a nice toy. craigr

    While talking with my Son-in-law yesterday, the subject came up about when he had his 'CrotchRocket'. He mentioned a couple of times about the Rev Limiter. I know that my Venture has one also. Back in my younger days, around 1980, I used to go over Red-Line MANY times on my old 2-Stroke Kaw H1 500. I eventually exploded a piston doing this. But, I did go beyond Red-Line MANY times before that. It always felt like walking a tightrope, knowing that I could blow the engine sometime. Plus, the little extra power it gave got the adrenaline up. Of course I would NEVER do that on THIS bike, but I still don't like someone else keeping me from being stupid. To me, it's kind of like the Helmet Law, if I want to be stupid and ride without one, it should be my right to. craigr

    I have ordered the Saddlebag covers & Tank Bra from him last fall, (still haven't put them on yet), but I got them in a reasonable amount of time. I then saw his request on this board, for the factory bag guards / Crash guards, so he could make the cup holders to fit Ventures. So, I sent him mine. He had them for most of the winter. I had to call him a few times to get them back this spring, but he did end up sending them back. He promised me a set of cup holders when he gets some made. He told me that Bike Week went VERY well and that he is extremely busy. He is a VERY nice guy to talk with. I think he just needs some help with all of the work he has. The said part is that he is hurting his reputation on this and another board by taking sooo long to get the products out - (hear this Troy?). The comment above about the bag covers has me worried about mine fitting okay. I guess I will have to get off my lazy butt and try them. craigr

    Wow, it's been a short year! I just logged on after a 5 week out of town trip and there was a message at the top saying that my 'trial membership' has expired! I thought it was just a fluke and it would go away the next day. - Wrong. So, I got to thinking about it and I just KNEW that my membership couldn't have expired, I just did it late last year. So, I was going to contact Freebird and let him know that my membership is logging wrong. - But, just for giggles, I checked my PayPal receipts and sure enough, my time was up. So, I paid my dues and am ready for another year! Time sure does fly when you are having fun. craigr

    I have an 07 Venture with 20k miles on it. Last Fall, I noiced the clutch starting to slip when I 'roll on' the throttle. I just lived with it with plans to take care of it during the Winter. Well here it is Spring, and I haven't delt with it yet. I suspect that I could go to the dealer and have it fixed under warranty, but I would probably just end up with the same problem in another 20k miles or worse yet, get a noisey whining clutch. How long can I go with it slipping like this? I would think that it should be changed ASAP. So, I am thinking about an aftermarket clutch and doing it myself. There are several threads about this, but I was unable to find a consensus as to which way to go. Are they difficult to change? - I did this as a teenager in the 70s, I'm guessing it isn't much different. Which aftermarket is the best to go with? craigr

    My first was a 72 500 Triple also. - But mine was a basket case when I got it in 77. My dad was upset that I bought it, and told me it was a piece of crap. I stripped it down to the frame and painted the frame from Brown to Black, I bought a custom saddle off a Kaw 900, and modified the back fender and the seat so it would fit. Then painted the tank & fenders a maroon metallic with Imron paint. It was gorgeous and I got many compliments on it. I then went thru the top end. While I had the cylinders off, I painted them flat black, buffed the top outside fins to look like chrome, then filed the edges of the horizontil fins level and buffed them. I then spent $300 on a set of expansion chambers for it. I then took the front shocks apart and put new seals in them, then sanded the aluminum lowers smooth and buffed them to look like chrome. When the bike was finished it was really pretty cool. I sure wish I had one or the 750 to go thru now. But now they are collectors bikes, waay too much money for me. craigr

    Oh come on!! I can't imagine it being THAT stable. On my Harbor Freight Jack, the bike wobbles enough to make me nervos. I'ld like a close up view to see how they do it. craigr

    Do any of you know what year Yamaha started painting the 1300 engine? I've seen several pics of Ventures without the Black painted engine, but mine is painted. craigr

    Tha't the one we bought, and we are very happy with it. It's great for the small things that kept getting lost in the clutter of our Trunk. AND, we bought one of those removable bags for our long trips. My wife fills it up while in our hotel room, then just pops it in the trunk just before we leave. Well, this organizer thing on the lid works great to put small things in so we don't have to dig thru the bag. They are kinda pricy, but we get our money's worth out of it. craigr

    You folks are soooo lucky to be able to have those quads. - I would love to have one. I can affford one, but in my neiiborhood, the only quads around are stolen or about to be stolen. I thought about a plow for my pickup for next year. craigr
