Trunk on RSTD stock OEM sissy bar
Pegasus1300 replied to azuogu1's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I did mount a Rally Pack to my luggage rack that was very secure when tied down with the included straps. It survived a crash that totaled the bike.It did not come loose or even get damaged. -
Trunk on RSTD stock OEM sissy bar
Pegasus1300 replied to azuogu1's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Part of the problem with doing that is the rearward lean of the stock RSTD back rest.I think that your platform for the trunk would have to extend back quite a ways or in order to use the trunk backrest, the RSTD backrest would have to go inside the trunk.I don't see any value in either option. You may be able to just mount a plate or rack on the rear fender for your trunk and then take it out of the way if you want to go back to stock.Remember the fender has a 25 lbs weight limit over and above a passenger. This from the sticker on the rack made by Yamaha for the RSTD backrest.I have seen fenders wrinkle when overloaded. -
But if he rolls how does he stop?Where are the brakes?

pilot jets and sync'ing ?

If you can't maintain a setting start pulling your carb slides out and check for pinhole leaks in the rubber diaphrams. If they have never been changed they are over 25 years old.Just hold up to a light or sunlight and you will see the holes. BTW for some reason my 86 got mileage in the mid 30's and nothing I ever did in 8 years would change that but you should get better then 31. On the carbs you will need a torx with a post hole in it to take out the "tamper" proof screw.Harbor Freight has a whole set of them cheap. -
Followed Don over to the MTA,then came here when he started this up.Membership got lost a couple of server crashes ago,but when I came back to the internet myself I found you all again.I keep a membership here and over at Venturers.Org.I have good friends on both sites and have learned many things from all of you and really enjoy talking Yamaha V4.

Avon also had a similar problem back in the 80's and again they got right on it honored their warrenties and fixed the problem.Their customer service was great also. However I think many problems with Avon comes from running them low on air. They like to be run at or near the limit posted on the sidewall. The last time I looked that was 50 lbs. Most other tires stop at 40 lbs.Thats a big difference.

EBC Galfers or BraKing,I have used all 3 and found them to be very high quality. As Skydoc said use the EBC HH pads. You won't believe how much of a difference in stoping power they make.Be sure to remember to break them in for about 100 miles of stop and go traffic for best results.

Avons ride on air and they like a lot of it.I found that i got my best service life, ride and handling by going up to the limit on the side wall.Start there and come down if you have to to get what you want.

I used the 130 for awhile but ended up going back to the 150. I never had any handlebar shake with either size.Have you checked your head bearings to see if they are adjusted properly?

Alternate front tire size?
Pegasus1300 replied to bags529's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
a 130 is too skinney on the rear. You are supporting a lot of weight and alot of power back there and need all the rubber you can get. Most of us wish we could put a bigger tire on the back but there is no room. The smaller size will also not last as long. A good deal on something you cannot really use is not a good deal:backinmyday: -
Back to Black or if you can find it Black Chrome tho I haven't seen that for awhile.Either one will make it look great again.

Those lenses were used alot on the extra lights from both Honda nad Yamaha back in the day.JC Whitney still sells lights with that size lens and Drag probably does too.I think I would go to Drag 1st.They may not have the dimpled lenses but they will have something that size.

Alternate front tire size?
Pegasus1300 replied to bags529's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
What Greg said. There is no relationship between 1st gen tire sizes and 2nd gen sizes. The front of a 1st gen is 120 90 18 which I think is the same as an MR90 18. As far as I know only Dunlop uses the letter designation and they have a conversion chart.I think Jake Wilson and Motorcycle Store have them as well. -
white labeling on controls
Pegasus1300 replied to soraoka's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
and if you do which sometimes happens then just redo that area.I have used white Testors model paint as that is an enamal and very durable. You may want to thin it just a little as it is very thick from the bottle. The paint sign painters or pinstripers use is good also One Shot.I don't know where you would get the flourecent paint that painterman talks about, maybe a silkscreen supply as that is also what they use on instruments and how they apply it. -
I mounted my antenna on the top of the trunk just behind the passenger backrest then ran the wire under the seat and tank and up the handlebar on the right side. I mounted the radio useing Ram mounts to the top of the right master cylinder on my 08 RSV I am glad to know you can cut a length of wire out to shorten the wire and re solder. The Honda Trike i have now has a rack on the trunk so I have the antenna mounted on the top of the dash with the excess coiled up in a bundle.Radio is again mounted with Ram mounts to the left side clutch lever clamp. Serius and XM merged awhile ago and are now the same company but you still need a seperate account depending on which radio you got,A Serius or an XM. I guess they have different signal types.Wife has an XM in her office and I have Serius on the bike.

Well I handled the last one by hitting the road at 60mph and spending 9 days in the hospital so I don't really recommend that method.

Ummmm I thought Bars Leaks was for radiators and cooling system leaks ?? But in any case you don't really need to do anything other then keep an eye on the oil level.A little blue on start up is ok and wont hurt anything.Like one post said automatic ring and valve lube.

Unless you already have an RSTD seat why don't you look into having Rick Butler modify your seat more comfort. He is a member here and rides an RSV and has been modifing seats for a long time. You will find him in the classified section.

Pegasus1300 replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I found a used spacer in my junk drawer and it miked at.9120" overall length.Probably no help as I don't know if it is a rotor cove spacer or a standard spacer.BTW internal bore should be straight thru.Good luck Brian. -
Front Axle Right Spacer ?
Pegasus1300 replied to GolfVenture's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The bearings are pressed in they are standard type ball bearings with an outer and inner race. I can take off my spacer tomorrow and measure it to see the width if that will help.I have the rotor on my 87VR and they are the same as yours( no difference from 86-93). -
3( 3 1/2"), 1(5 3/4"), 1(9").Total of five. all sew on.
-
Yeah I need a good ride to see if the new fork seals are gonna work. Just no money for gas.Oh yes I may have gone to a trike after totaling 2 Royal Stars but I still have my 87VR and I would trust it anywhere.
