  1. The MT is actually smaller then the MU.The MU is the correct size for the VR
  2. DO NOT USE Simple Green on the windshield it will craze it in no time.Dont' ask how I know this but it will ruin a windshield. Any mild soap in a highly diluted form will work. There are many carwash formulas that would carefully clean the surface and should be safe for your finishes.
  3. I realy love my RSTD. I waited 12 years for 2008. I bought it when I was single. Now that I am married I'm glad I kept my 1987 Venture Royale. You can add everything to an RSTD but then it really isn't an RSTD anymore. And remember that rack mounts to the sissy bar which mounts to the fender and if you overload it you bend the fender( don't ask how I know this). It is not covered by warrenty. The load threshold is 10lbs ( as per yamaha).Yes it will take more but you run the risk of bending the fender. So what kind of riding are you MOSTLY going to do? Two up and lots of long distance or do you just like to carry a lot of stuff, go with the RSV. Some 2 up, short trips, once in a while a long one lots of solo time,go with the RSTD. But IMHO you can't miss with either one
  4. The drive shaft must always be greased when the tire is changed. There are no replacement shafts for the 83-85 series so this is a must do.Not greasing the shaft will cause the splines to wear out and the shaft to spin in the coupler.Don't ask how I know . Since I don't know how many miles are on your bike but I do know it is 24 years old I would also suggest that you have your mechanic take the splined hub off the wheel and pull the pegs from the rubber cushions and grease them and be sure he greases the the little needle bearing as well. This is often neglected and leads to a nasty failure. The last time I checked that bearing could only be bought from Yamaha and is quite pricey.
  5. You will have a great trip.I have been riding this area for years and still find new things. Restaurants,In Green River just north of where you will be riding and worth the side trip.Raises his own beef and hand cuts his own fries.Great steaks or burgers. Mexican Hat:can't remember the restaurant's name but there is not much in Mexican Hat.This is the restaurant on the river and has the best Navajo Tacos in the world. Roads: be sure to go to Natural Bridges and then ride the road from there to Mexican Hat.You will go down the Moqui Dugway. It is steep, and scary looking, but much more scary looking then really scary. The view is magnificent, you will think you have come to the edge of the world and 1 foot farther and you will fall off into nothing.I think you can just about see to Flagstaff.Stop at Edge of the Ceders in Blanding and I could go on and on but you can't time is just always so limited. That of course gives you an excuse to come back.Let me know what days you will be in the area and if I can break away I will join you for a day or so.
  6. What kit is this and where did you find it?

  8. Hi Bob,How did you know.Yes I have one and yes you can use it.How you doing anyway?I see you went to a 2nd generation too.I now have a 2008 RSTD and I love it.I still have my gold one but don't ride it much.Do you still have yours?

  9. The MT90 is actually a 130.The slightly narrower size makes the RSTD and RSV handle a little better at low speeds and in parking lots. This is becoming a standard modification talked about on other boards. On thing to remember about Avons is that they ride on air not on the side walls so you may want to pump them to the max limit on the tire.I have run Avons this way since the early 70's and always got good performance out of them and good mileage.
  10. If you go to the tech articles for 2nd generation on Venturers.org you will find a complete chart of tire sizes and www,ww,rwl and black wall including the next size smaller that many are running on the front.enjoy Paul
  11. First thank you Puc for and excellent article on our current situation.2nd to the quote from Benjamin Disreali, please remember that we do not live in a democracy as much as many people try to make it out that we do.We live in a Republic and it has always been a republic. The Founding Fathers knew the dangers of a democracy and took great pains to avoid them by creating a republic.Yes we all vote (or should) but we elect representatives to actually make the decisions for us.That we are in the trouble we are in only means we have not been paying enough attention to who we are electing. Happy TRAils/NSD Paul
