Hey...if you have found a lady that the two of you care enough for each other to spend this special day together, you are already lucky. Have a wonderful day.

MiCarl had the valve tools made and was selling them at a very fair price. I don't know if he has any left or not but you should contact him and find out.

So another year is drawing to a close. There have been some good times and bad times during 2010. I wish I could say that it was the best year ever but for many folks, it simply wasn't. We had some members with serious health issues, some that lost jobs, others that lost loved ones and still others that saw long lasting relationships come to an end. I've had my own share of problems but I need only to look around to realize that I don't have it so bad. I have so many things to be thankful for. I have a secure job, a roof over my head, plenty of food. I have a family that loves me and that includes a wife that is so lovely and sweet that I thank God for her every day of my life. I hope that she NEVER comes to realize how much better she could do than me. One more thing though, and I am so very serious about this. I am so thankful for the family that we have become here. Let's face it folks, some days are better than others. We all have a bad day from time to time but when those days come around, I can always come here....here to my extended family...and there will be something that makes me smile. It could be some good natured teasing, a stupid joke, an act of kindness that one of you has shown to another.....many things here bring a smile to my face on a daily basis. I wish each and every one of you a Very Merry Christmas. I thank you for the joy that you have brought to my life and I thank you so much for being a VentureRider member. If it weren't for each of you....who the heck would read this?

I agree that they are expensive but that item is not actually plastic. It is billet aluminum that is chrome plated. Yes, I think that they are too expensive but on the other hand, the EPA has made most anything that is real chrome pretty expensive.

Here's a pic of the old Epiphone. Not too bad considering it is almost 40 years old. http://www.venturerider.org/images/epiphone.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/epiphone.jpg

They are a little different. The Epiphone is strung with EXP26 Custom Light strings. They are .011 - .052. The high E is actually a .011 and they are the coated phosphor bronze. The Seagull is strung with D'Addario EXP 16 Lights. .012 - .053, also coated phosphor bronze. The Epiphone has a brighter sound but I suspect it has more to do with the laminated spruce top as opposed to the solid cedar top of the Seagull more than the strings.

I'll add one more thing in regards to using electric strings on an acoustic guitar. Now I'm certainly no expert and my opinion on this is based upon doing a considerable amount of research, NOT personal experience. It is generally NOT recommended to use electric strings on an acoustic guitar. The reason is because the electric strings are generally a lighter gauge string. Due to the lighter gauge, once it is tuned you will have less neck tension than you would with the recommended acoustic strings. The neck tension is important to the structural integrity of the guitar. If you have less neck tension than required, it will probably end up causing the neck to bow and require a lot of adjustment and could even cause permanent damage. I've learned that much of what I THOUGHT I knew about guitars was incorrect. I always thought that it was best for long term storage to do so with the tension taken off the strings. I have learned that most experts recommend that a guitar be stored in the tuned state so that it is stored with the proper neck tension. I also thought that it would be better to NOT leave my guitars in the cases. Not only do I like to have them out where they can be seen but I thought it would also be better for them. Again, not true. I've learned that guitars do best when stored at 40 - 50 percent relative humidity. It is best to store them in the cases with a humidifier in the case. This recommendation varies depending upon what part of the country you live in but I'm told that in this area, there is no danger of over humidifying my guitars. Keeping a humidifier in my guitar all the time and re-wetting it every 3 to 4 days is recommended to keep it at the proper humidity. The better the guitar, the more important this is. More expensive guitars have solid wood tops whereas cheaper guitars use laminates. The most expensive guitars have solid tops, sides and backs. My Ephiphone is a laminate guitar where my Seagull has a solid top and laminated back and sides. Storing them in the proper humidity is more important on the better guitars that are solid wood as they are more prone to develop cracks if they dry out too much. This is why if you go to a major guitar store, the acoustics are typically displayed in a closed off room. That room is basically a large humidor.

They are acoustic strings, not electric. While electric strings may be a bit lighter, you will not get the best sound when they are used on an acoustic. Acoustic strings come in different weights. Go with some good lightweight acoustic strings and I think you would be better off. The Elixirs are a coated string and I typed the wrong thing when I posted. He actually strung the Ephiphone with D'Addario EXPs, NOT Elixirs. The EXPs and the Elixirs are both coated strings and either will work well for you. The Elixers have a different coating that you can actually feel, they are a bit smoother and probably feel more like flat wound electric strings than the EXPs. So, I would probably recommend the D'Addario EXPs or the Elixirs in .010 gauge if you are looking for a string that is easier on your fingers.

Well, I got my old Epiphone back from the luthier yesterday. Now I bought this thing back in 1971 when I was in high school and I knew very little about guitars. The action was never very good, always on the high side, and had gotten much worse over the past 40 years. This luthier did an amazing job on it. He rebuilt the neck pocket and then reset the neck, built a new compensated bridge for it, leveled and dressed all the frets, set the action to Martin specs and finished with a new set of D'Addario EXP 11's. WOW, this old thing plays fantastic now. Nice low action, great sustain and a nice bright tone. Much different sounding than my cedar topped Seagull which has a more warm tone. I like the sound of both but they are different. I honestly don't know that the old Epiphone was worth spending the money on but it still looked very nice cosmetically and it was a shame to just let it go to waste. I'm very pleased with it now. This is the first time I've ever had a guitar professionally set up and it certainly makes a huge difference. Some are fine right out of the box but most can probably use a setup by a competent luthier. I think this is important not just for a great guitar player but maybe even more so for a beginner. It is much easier to learn on a guitar that has a good action that is easier to chord.

The music is Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole’. I have that song and a few others of his on my Ipod. Unfortunately, he passed away a few years ago. He had a tremendous weight problem and for his last concerts, had to be lifted on stage with a fork lift. Really a sad story and ending for such a talented musician. http://www.izhawaii.com/

Sorry, but as usual I'm out of town and I would have to drive a pretty good ways to take a look. I will be home later today though and if you don't figure it out before then, I will gladly pull my gas tank and take a look. I've never removed the grommets so really haven't paid any attention to them.

OK folks...it is working again now. Sorry about that. I would not have known if I had not seen this thread. I had a nice little chat with THEM though. They said something along the lines of "It be okay fine". Something like that...my Chinglesh isn't that good.

It may be because I hadn't paid for the renewal. It is really irritating. I pay for 3 months at a time and they NEVER send me a renewal notification. I just paid for another 3 months but I don't know when they will get it turned back on. Hopefully tonight.

Which Ipod is it? There is a lot of info online. Just do a Google search for jailbreak ipod. Here is one example. http://www.ehow.com/how_2276981_safely-jailbreak-ipod-touch.html

I've never drank cyanide but I've read some pretty good data that says it is probably not all that good for you. I don't feel the need to try it myself. OK...I know that is an extreme example but sometimes those test reports can help us make wise decisions. The bottom line is, if you are using the beads and are convinced that they are balancing your tires as good as conventional weights, then enjoy. I still prefer the tried and true method that most tire installers recommend.

LOL...that is funny. uh....do I get any royalties for staring in it?
-
I think you did a GREAT job. Very nice and clean looking.
-
I've been able to carefully remove it...BUT...I don't think you will need it with the RK mufflers. They are a tight fit. Just try to save the gaskets in case you ever want to go back to stock. They may actually stay inside the mufflers..if they do..that is great as you can just leave them in place.
-
I think that they just press in. Others have solved the problem by gluing a dime or something onto the cover just over the plug so that more pressure will be put on it.
-
WOW...that looks pretty rough. Sure glad you are able to tell us about it.

I know that some of you have still not received your mugs. It seems that some are taking much longer than usual to be delivered. I know that Redneck and tnt05venture have reported that they have not received theirs yet. Anybody else? If you have NOT received your VentureRider mugs, please post in this thread.

I'm in Minnesota for our winter sales meeting. I was in Cannon Falls for 2 days and somebody said that it was -25F yesterday morning. We drove to our resort near Hayward, WI last night and I can tell you that is not exactly warm here either. Heading back home on Friday and it can't come soon enough....though NE Ohio isn't much warmer. We have WIFI at the resort but it's very spotty and I'm in meetings most of the time so have very little time to get online this week. If I don't respond quickly to your PMs and Emails, sorry about that. Will do better when I get home.

I don't even understand why there would be an argument here. What is important to one person may not be at all important to the next. I love my Bushtec trailer. It is color matched to my bike and I think it looks great and pulls great. They may cost more than some are willing to spend and that's understandable also. I also see the other side of the issue. A lot of people only use the trailer 2 or 3 times a year and don't wish to spend big money on a trailer. That's fine too. To each his own. While you may some people may think it's crazy to spend big money on a trailer, those same people very likely spend money on other things that I would think is just as crazy. The fact is, it's up to each individual and there is no right and wrong answer. Most of us work hard and long for our money and should be feel free to spend it or not spend it as we see fit and without ridicule either way.
