Help-valve shim tool
Freebird replied to dug050's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Has anybody checked with MiCarl? He had some of these tools made up and was selling them very reasonably. Don't know if he still has any or not though. -
Folks, I'm figuring out that this GAS (guitar acquisition syndrome) is a real problem. I'm finding myself searching Craigslist in every new city that I happen to be in. I bought the Washburn last week in Dayton, OH. It's a really nice guitar but just doesn't quite do it for me. So, I now have it for sale on Craigslist. Then I got to Indianapolis today and ran across another guitar that I really do like. It's NOT a high end guitar but WOW....it plays fantastic and I love the style. It's basically a hollow body in a Telecaster style. I've been playing it all evening here in my hotel room and this one is a keeper. Not that I wouldn't possibly add another one at some point....not soon...I don't think.

I think she's great. I was also able to leave a comment so it seemed to be working for me.

No way in a million years would I do that. Heck...I got nervous just watching it.

I may be wrong but I'm afraid you aren't going to get a lot of help with this one. I haven't heard of anybody who has changed the jets due to altitude issues. Maybe somebody has though, we'll see. I've ridden the highest peaks in Colorado and never felt that I needed any carb adjustments. Maybe if I lived there and rode at those elevations all the time I would notice something.

According to their website, their 17.5" is stock height. They have one shorter and one taller.

I think it would be great to jam a little one night at Maintenance Day. Somebody will have to lead it as I'm strictly a beginner and will just play along with the others. I hope that any of you who play, will think about bringing your guitars, dulcimers, banjos, whatever. I usually have about 3 guitars around so if you can't bring your own, you are welcome to use one of mine.

I agree. The cherries are supposed to help but just didn't do it for me. Mine finally got bad enough that I finally went to the doctor. I had gone from being a once a year thing to an almost all the time thing. The doctor gave me a prescription for a pain pill, Indomethacin, to take when it flared up but it was happening too often and I didn't want to take pain pills all the time. He finally put me on Allopurinol and it has done the trick for me. It prevents the flareups instead of treating the pain. It is a daily thing though and likely will be forever. It's well worth it though.

Well, I added another guitar to my collection this week. Ran into a deal on Craigslist. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for but the review are very good on it and I like the natural maple finish. I'll try it for a while and see how it works out. It was cheap enough that I can get my money out of it if I decide I don't like it. Washburn HB30

Good luck to you Steve. I used to think that we had an awful lot of old folks here but the truth is, we just have a lot of bionic men.

New choke knob from Starparts
Freebird replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
LOL....to be honest, I didn't even notice the pills but it appears to be indicating that there is a small storage space in the chock knob. I guess. -
New choke knob from Starparts

They are not yet on their website. If you click the area at the top of the picture though, it will expand to full size so that you can read it. The site is http://www.starparts.org -
Yes, it will get better but I know that hearing that doesn't help at all right now. Now is the time for mourning your loss and remembering all the things that made her such a special person. Time for family to lean on each other and share the love that she instilled in you all. Our prayers will continue.

I got an email from Sean that he is now offering a new choke knob that matches the key cover that several of us have on our RSVs. I think it looks great and will be ordering one soon. He says that they are not yet on his website so to use the information in this flier if you wish to order one. http://www.venturerider.org/images/starparts.jpg

Clutch Basket Markings?
Freebird replied to TearlessTom's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I don't THINK that number indicates that you have an "H" basket. It may, but I don't think so. All that I have seen have the "H", "I", whatever...inscribed on the back side of the clutch basket. You have to remove the clutch basket to see it and then it's just a single letter. -

Lazy day here. 44 degrees has melted all the snow and left things wet and soggy. Raining off and on. Eileen and I spent New Years Eve at a place called Lyman's Harbor in Sandusky. Decent dinner followed by listening and dancing to a small band called Ron Howard and the Cruisers. Old Motown hits. They were a decent band and it was a fun time. Stayed at a hotel last night in Sandusky. Not far from home but didn't want to drive home after even a couple of drinks. I didn't drink much. They had a cash bar setup and the choices were terrible. I asked for an extra dirty vodka martini and she said "we only have Absolut vodka and no olives so will a lime be OK"? yuk....so I had about three beers and that was it for any drinking. Got home about noon or so and caught up on about 300 emails. Eileen is taking a nap and I'm browsing the internet looking at reviews for mini guitar amps. Want something that I can take with me when I travel because I THINK I have a deal made on a decent semi-hollow body electric that I've been looking for. So....easy day here. Not much to do and that's just fine with me.

and a big Happy New Year to you and all the other members also. Eileen are going to be leaving here in a few minutes. We have reservations at a New Years Eve party in Sandusky. We are going to dance the night away and then stay at a hotel near the facility. Hope you all have a great one.

Well...I don't know if this is a general question or if you are asking specifically about what to add to your bike. I see that you ride a '99 and I don't know what you already have on it. If I was starting with a clean slate on a completely stock bike though, my first two recommendations would be.... Drivers backrest Kuryakyn highway pegs. After that...there are a ton of things but those are the two most important in my opinion.

83 frame winter project
Freebird replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
To be honest, I've never looked at one of the cracked ones up close. What I've been told was that they were built in a way that water could get in but couldn't drain out and that they would corrode from the inside until the tubing was eventually think enough to crack or break. -

I agree that it was just the '83 models. I think it is more common than you might think though. I know of at least 4 myself. -
Yes, this one will likely get deleted also for the same reason the last one did. It had turned into a personal argument between some here who are indeed law enforcement and others who have nothing good to say about law enforcement. Once it turned into members bashing each other, it goes away. Your comments about "right leaning" posts getting deleted is totally incorrect. If you want to discuss it via PM, feel free to contact me.

I understand...I don't blame you. Email will be just fine.
