  1. If you're not planning to transmit it's not all that critical. Any CB antenna should do the trick. The wire that comes with a CB antenna will not have the correct plug at the radio end. Standard CB plug is PL-259 but the connector at on the Venture is looking for a Motorola plug. You'll either have to get an adapter, or cut the base off your old wire and put a connector on there for your new antenna.

    wolo horn

They mount to either side. I run a pair of them on my 89. I made brackets that angled them out about 20deg from forward that mounted to the stock location. Looked really good. When I put the fog/driving combo lights on I went to straight brackets and mounted the horns with the lights.
  3. We use a pair of J&M we got for $60 apiece on closeout. Really like them Looks like the current model is $80. Bottom of the page http://www.sierra-mc.com/products.asp?cat=314
  4. Here is the diagram on the parts fiche. http://webservices.motorsportdealers.com/parts/partImages/YAM/2/02/0339/0019.Gif
  5. If the SET light is coming on and staying until you cancel or use the clutch or brake it's not electrical. There is a vacuum motor inside the left of the fairing that is driven by a pump inside the right of the fairing. A vacuum hose runs between them. If you remove the headlight and turn signals you can get to the hose. You might as well replace it. When you replace the hose hook it to the vacuum motor first and make sure it doesn't leak (vacuum pump is handy, but I suppose you could just suck on it). If that doesn't solve the problem then your issue is in the vacuum pump itself. The darn thing has 2 valves in it. One of the valves seemed not to be closing on mine until I disassembled and re-assembled it.
  6. I'm rebuilding a set of forks for the 89 VR. The online parts fiches are pretty sketchy on the slide bushing that goes on the inner fork tube. The one that presses into the outer tube is known as 3JJ-23125-00-00 METAL, SLIDE 1. Anyone have the part number for the other one? Thanks!
  7. Ed, Welcome aboard, and if you're near Detroit you need to come pick over the 88 parts bike I just acquired. On the headsets there are essentially 2 cables - one from the amp to the false tank cover or the trunk and another to the headset. The 2nd is part of the headset, not the motorcycle. I have replacements for the part that goes on the motorcycle. I also have the vents you need. Carl
  8. That pic doesn't look like a $300 bike. Methinks you probably scored. The fairing half that shows in the pic is worth a significant portion of the $300. For reference, a pic of the 88 I just bought for $500 is attached.
  9. the diaphragms were ALLEGEDLY replaced about 18k miles ago when a dealer in San Bernardino county WAS PAID TO rebuilD the carburetors. How's that look?
  10. Not sure what you mean form stop/run button. If you're running along and the cruise disengages (The power light and orange resume light are on) that is often the clutch switch. Wear in the lever pivot leaves the lever loose and keeps it from holding the switch in. Bumps and such cause it to disengage.
  11. Me too. Seems like the 78% mix is the best value.
  12. Yeah, I was referring to a radio with line out. Not sure why anyone would want to replace the stock radio unless he was trying to pick up CD, MP3 or builtin SAT. On the NAV thing then, perhaps it makes more sense to piggyback it on the CB input?
  13. Oh, one more thing. I'd sure like to be able to put a 1/8" mono jack in the amplifier case that would let me hook in the audio from a NAV system and have it behave like a 3rd mic on the intercom. If you come up with that solution in your investigations I'd sure like to know about it.
  14. It seems to me that any aftermarket radio with output for an amplifier connection could be connected in via the source for the cassette deck, much like the MP3 hook ups detailed before. I haven't used the cassette deck, but I imagine the CB and intercom work same way with that as they do the radio. Tim, I've got at lease one extra working CB. Let me know if you need to borrow it.
  15. Mine was also leaking because the grommet the stator wires passes through did not press tight against the cover gasket (you could see it was sub flush to the cover when installed in the slot). I put a bead of RTV on it, put the cover on just tight enough to shape the RTV and let it set over night. Then I torqued it down. That corrected my leak.
  16. Tim, I'm too lazy to get up on my sore foot and look, but speaking generally: There should be 3 leads to the stock flasher. One is power, another goes to the lights and the 3rd is for the auto cancel. When you use an automotive flasher you don't need/use the cancel lead. The only bike I ever converted was a TX500. While the plug would go on the flasher the wiring was wrong. I ended up cutting off the plug, capping the line for the auto cancel and hooked the two remaining wires to the lugs on the electronic flasher. Worked just fine. I expect you are having a similar issue.
  17. Cindy, I'm thrilled for you! And for your community! My starter wife was abused by her father. She wasn't the first, or the last. These creeps never quit. Put him behind bars girl!
  18. The easiest way is to use the rear end from a chain drive car.
  19. Not necessarily. Little brass plugs often come in the carb kits.
  20. Well, steering neck is bent on mine:95: If you decide to paint that trailer orange let me know..........
  21. Price?
  22. Don, I've got one. Problem is I'm only "almost sure" it's good. Shall I send it to ya? Or, do you want to send the bike to me? I'd be happy to put the computer in and test it for a few months.
  23. I don't believe so. Had someone in my shop yesterday with a MKI pumpkin comparing it to my MKII. The MKI has a shoulder around the coupler that the MKII does not. I do not believe that the MKII swing arm is relieved for that shoulder. The swingarm was changed in 85 also. Clearly the MKII splines are deeper in the coupler, necessitating a longer drive shaft. I found a MKI on ebay that I believe he will bid on. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/83-85-Yamaha-Venture-Final-Rear-Drive_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1546Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem4ce8f88a1cQQitemZ330326116892QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories Looks like it could be you? I have a MKII ring gear (my pinion broke). Problem is, if you put it in your pumpkin you'll have to re-shim it, big job. Also, my gear will need a new bearing. But if you want it we can work something out. I replaced mine with a 2nd gen final. I needed to plug the speedo sensor hole but otherwise it's a direct bolt up for the MKII. The tire does end up shifted to the left just a bit but this is not an issue. My recommendation would be to find a final from a 2nd gen that had been triked.
  24. I caved in the side of a girls car to make her motorcycle aware!
  25. What I'm going to do different next time is let someone else ride that day:big-grin-emoticon:
