  1. My MPH is painted on a 'grill' under the glass. The Kph is the LCD part. Does it run off a separate power source, like some watch battery thing?
  2. How about electronics? Had a recent battery replacement after 5 months of not riding... coldest winter in a while. If you have an '08 RSV, does the LCD for Kph stay on all the time? This bike was pretty new to me and I'm not sure now.
  3. Thats gotta be it. I was just thinking that there must be some sort of battery to maintain the clock time, etc. Somehow (and probably something bad) i've got a closed circuit feeding this LCD display. dangit! Got my Clymer's out... guess I'll see what i can figure out here. Maybe a relay somewhere closed when i tried to start it earlier and stuck in a closed position. Thanks fellas for all the feedback. I just pronounced this battery dead and turned of the trickle charger. I'm assuming it's toast, and even if not, it's 3 yrs old and just got frozen several times this past winter. We had a really cold one this year.
  4. It's a 2nd gen. 2007 if I recall correctly. Below the painted on MPH speedo is an LED panel that shows the fuel gauge, and at the moment, KPH read out. couple other indicators as well but I cant recall right of the bat.
  5. It's such a gorgeous day outside, I kinda wanna carry on, make some progress. I'm thinking of running down to Wally World and see if they've got a battery that will work. Do i just need to match the specs and size, or is there some other feature I need to be sure to look for? This will just be something to get me through another year or two, then I'll probably upgrade to the Odessey system or something similiar.
  6. No, at the moment (I just went and looked) the trickle charger is on the battery and both pos and neg cables are off the battery and moved way over away from the battery posts... and the speedo is still lit. It's been so long since i've even looked at the bike, I'm second guessing myself about how it looked that last time i got home from a ride and turned the bike off. I could swear that that part of the instrument panel was completely turned off/ no LED's. This makes absolutely no sence to me at all.
  7. My battery is 3 yrs old approx, and sat through a really cold winter for maybe 4 or 5 months without being started. I thought i'd put a trickle charger on it just to see what would happen. It was completely and totally dead. I let it charge for a couple of hours and just wanted to go see how it was coming along. I flipped the key on and the LED speedo lit up, but then i started hearing some soft popping and the trickle charger was sorta trying to flicker as well, so i turned the key off, but the LED illuminated speedo stayed lit. I disconnected the battery ground, still lit. I disconnected the positive lead and the speedo was stilll lit. It's sitting out in my garage right now I assume.... still lit up. I've accepted the fact that this is a good time to replace the battery, but what the heck is up with that speedo???
  8. THANK YOU X 10 !!! I gotta say thank ya for kicking the crap outta that cager there (even though I'm sorry it went down like that). You didn't just raise her awarenes, you also elevated the awareness level of her and all the people she tells her story to. way to go man, and im damn glad you got through it safely. -papa smurf
  9. I have an 07. It's only my second bike, and my first touring sized one. I test drove an ElectraGlide around the Harley dealer parking lot for 5 or 10 minutes and the vibration had me thinking my elbows would be mush after a few years. The RSV is quiet, so if you're into loud pipes, plan on some aftermarket stuff, I guess. I'm more into hearing the IPOD or the intercom personally. It did take some getting used to as far as the top-heavy feel. A few hours of Ride Like a Pro practice will take care of that... using combinations of trail brake (rear brake), throttle, and clutch will help handle that beast through parking lots, uturns, etc. Once your up to speed, it definately doesnt feel top heavy... nuttin but smooth power. My only complaint really is that I don't have enough miles on it, but that's my fault i suppose. Good luck with your decision, which ever way it goes.
  10. Wow Carl. That sure does blow man. But so glad you're upright and able to tell us about it. I found it pretty interesting the way you analyzed it with a view on what you could have done differently. Cause ya know, the cager was in the wrong. I'll take your hard learned lesson to heart for sure. Take er easy and get yourself better.
  11. i chased a whole set of symptoms around on a different bike... all related to a corroded bulb/socket in the rear turn signal. it would blink faster, slower, not at all, stay on.. you name it. I spent a good while chasing it down with ohm meter, test light, etc. till i was blue in the face. Studied the wiring diagrams till i was crosseyed, replaced the flasher, etc. I do bellieve the problem was related to current traveling back up the wrong path due to the short in the socket. Never solved it before i traded it in for my current ride... rsv 08. i did come away with this bit of wisdom. Put some dielectric grease on your bulbs when you have the opportunity.
  12. wow. this makes me think that it's gotta be about riding style. there are so many divergent opinions. but let me just add this. I check my tire pressure obsessively. its the number one cause of failure. do it.. it only takes a few minutes. ride safe yall
  13. my god man that is SICK. american chopper sux. i am in awe. and like the previous post i am humbled.... i havent even taken the seat of mine yet. im totally speechless this is one fantastic ride. i can only imagine goosing it on the highway. gotta be a butt rush fo sho. nice job is an understatement.
  14. im in...what time zone on the 8:30 dealio?
  15. regarding the voyager kit, i'm a bit skiddish of them. I also am looking at a trike by some means in the near future. I have a real new RSV and a not so new body if you know what i mean. I had a friend who had a pretty bad accident after getting a voyager kit. She was a new rider, and that could have been part of it... i just dont know. I just know that if i ever get on a trike with my loved one, it won't be something I put together myself. It will be a conversion by a company that does it day in and day out. Sorry for the incomplete, yet long story... It still bugs me.
  16. Hi all Tell your Triumph riding buddies about this. More info on bikerlawyer.com. Bridgestone Motorcycle Tire Defect Bridgestone Americas Tire Operation (BATO) is recalling certain batches of Bridgestone Exedra G850 G defective motorcycle tires sold for MY 2008 and 2009 Triumph Rocket III Touring motorcycles, according to a report in Consumeraffairs.com. It has been found that torque from riding can cause "torque-induced degradation" in a body ply, which may result in inner-liner cracking and lead to a slow leak in the rear tire. When the defective tires are used continuously, they may start to vibrate at moderate speeds or even lead to a motorcycle crash. Bridgestone is working with Triumph to notify owners. The defective tires will be replaced free of charge. Also, the front tire will be replaced free of charge because of the matching requirements of the motorcycle although the front tires are not included in this product defect recall. The safety recall is expected to begin this month. Owners may contact Bridgestone at 1-800-465-1904 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236. Tire defects related to tire pressure or tread separation issues can have devastating consequences. Even a seasoned motorcycle rider will not be able to control his or her bike if the tire fails suddenly, especially if it happens at freeway speeds. In cases where a serious injury or fatality occurs because of a tire defect, the tire manufacturer could be held liable. Victims or their families could receive compensation for medical/funeral expenses, cost of medication, hospitalization or long-term care and loss of wages among other damages. If you or a loved one has been injured because of a motorcycle product defect such as a tire defect, please contact us at (800) Bill-Ley or visit our website at BikerLawyer.com. We make it our business to protect victims of Texas motorcycle accidents!
  17. well... I just squat down on the right side of the bike, grab the handlebar (key locked) and gently tip it. no helper, no smoke, no mirrors, no problem. just dont try to stand it up totally straight. Only enough to see that your at a safe oil level. ps it's an rsv 2gen.
  18. holy crap... well i did just google it... 1000 bux! really?
  19. i'll have to google that one myself. only thing i can say personally is... hey, it's my cranium and i'll spend hundreds. I spent 450 on my Aria ff helmet and have not batted an eye about it.
  20. ... and this is some of the kind of information shared hear that makes this the amazing web community that it is. Seriously. Thanks for taking the time to share the info. ride safe.
  21. "Let those who ride decide". I decide to wear one. Full face at that. Went to see the guy who sold me my first bike a while back. This guy flew many missions in nam and wears a ff helmet too. While we were visiting, he reached back behind his desk and pulled out his retired ff to show me. He had just survived someone turning left in front of him. It was a mess, and he wasn't. Told me "dont let em tell ya ff helmets are overkill".
  22. is that a touring bike or a cruiser?
  23. what did you put em on? i ride a RSV 2nd gen. Im not real crazy about the stock pipes, they just dont do the bike justice. but then again, i do like listening to the audio stuff while im riding. do you loose much audio when you loose the stock (quite) pipes?
  24. I don't know if I can explain this worth a dang, so it's best that I just refer you to the Ride Like a Pro DVD... but making right turns (or even left ones) from a dead stop are way easier if you use a combination of throttle, clutch, and rear break. Check it out! EDITED TO ADD THIS: ... and when in doubt, GAS IT A LITTLE.
