  1. Lone Star, man i wish i could join ya... for several reasons. Don't even know ya or your situation, but somehow i can connect with what's going on there. I'll be riding w/ ya in spirit. Have fun and enjoy the wind. papa smurf
  2. wow, you took the words right out of my mouth. regarding riding, I have replaced the word ACCIDENT with the word CRASH. one of the books on riding that i read convinced me of the logic, wish i could remember the title. good comments, and I agree with all of them. I also agree that as a rider, we made the choice to ride. and we have to assume there is a deer standing in the road around every blind corner, nobody's turn signal's work, if their turn signal is on, they don't know it, their mirrors are not adjusted, the car waiting to pull out does not see you, when you are approaching a stop sign or red light, the car behind you does not see it or you, all the rest. not to be a paranoid, but when you get on a bike, you gotta acknowledge these things.
  3. The only way to get cager's attention, to get them to start actively "LOOKING" for motorcycles and pedestrians (instead of just waiting for the motorcycle to come into their current field of vision) is to severely punish the offenders. I'm not enough of a politician or polical activist to know the best way to get this done, though. Until then, ride like you are invisible.
  4. ...and then he got on his harley with the bumper sticker that says "scabs buy imports" and rode down to the harley biker bar to borrow some tools (also made overseas). i dunno... folks it's a global economy. Unless you wanna move to Pennsylvania and become an Omish, you are a part of it. Before you answer, remember that there are no Omish motorcycles.
  5. Just read on CNN. a Dallas motor officer was involved in a fatal single-vehicle crash while escorting Clinton's motorcade through Dallas. cnn.com
  6. Thanks to all. Goose, what you described was what I ~thought~ was a set screw, but it looked like a buggered up set screw at best. that's gotta be that plastic pin. colleyville, eh? you're just up the road from me. edit at 730 pm 02/20: man it don't take much to get me excited. two wrenches, 10 minutes and it's fixed. thanks again... whoops i think i forgot to put that rubber boot back up.
  7. howdy all. need a little help here. the cb and radion antenna's have a springloaded slip collar. You slide it upward an inch or so and it exposes an elbow hinge. This allows you to fold the antenna forward for things like putting a cover over the bike. My CB one is lined up just right. It folds forward and ends up right next to the bike. The radio antenna elbow is 45 degrees off, so it will only fold out away from the bike. I can't really tell from looking where to put a wrench to fix this. Also, it looks like there may be a set screw of some kind involved, but I'm not to sure about that yet either. If i did a good enough job describing things, and you can help me out, please let me know. thanks in advance!!! papa smurf
  8. We just got a set of bag liners from tlcproducts. They were a tad pricey...80 bux plus shipping, but they came with free monogramming. the ended up being very sturdy, i think we will get years of use out of them. tlcproducts.com
  9. ok just wait... i'll be sending some shots from cancun this summer.
  10. what a fantastic thread. I'll be following it closely. I got my black cherry 08 RSV 8 days ago. I got to watch the dealer do the final assembly on it... almost like seeing your child be born. Well, sort of. Being such a new owner, I'm still finding reasons I like it. By the way, I test drove a HD touring model, fully expecting I would fall in love with it. Much to my surprise, I did not. But I wasn't too disappointed. That extra 9 grand I didn't have to spend will buy lots of toys for the toy runs and diapers and food for the other fund raisers our club does. This is the first bike of this type I've owned, so i'm blown away by the comfort and the features (intercom, cb, fm, etc.). But what i like most about it is this. when my wife started warming up to the idea of riding two up, we realized she needed some better accommodations back there. We traded up for the RSV, and it is fantastic. So now i get to share this passion/hobby/sport/diversion/"nerve pill" with my very best friend. Thank you all for sharing. Ride Safe!!!! papa smurf
  11. man i admire you all that can do this kind of stuff. maybe i could, i had a few mechanical type jobs in the past. but i'd have to take over the garage. it's so unorganized and crowded in there. maybe one of these days i'll have me a shop that i can spread out in. y'all ride safe!
  12. anybody have a Clymer's shop manual? I had one for my 1100 silverado. It was pretty good i thought. only had my RSV for a week, so I haven't hunted down a manual yet. Hope to not need one too soon, the bike had 2 miles on it when I bought it last week. but when the weather keeps you off the bike, it's a good way to make use of the time.
  13. quoted from the websites home page: "WELCOME TO JBR17LLC, we are family owned and have been in business for 30 years. We sell heavy construction equipment to light duty truck parts. We also specialize in Stone, IHI, and Dynapac equipment. We also have a wide variety of parts for everything we sell. We also sell home variety equipment like tractors, generators, chain saws, trimmers and much more." Personally, I think I'll have to stick to suppliers who specifically deal in motorcycle accessories.
  14. i got IV myself. I can't imagine that the actual techniques have changed much, unless they discuss anti lock brakes or linked front/rear brake systems or something like that. I've done a little practicing, not as much as I need to, but a little. I got some bright colored tennis balls, cut em in half, and kept em in my side bags for a while. I can tell ya for sure, the little amount of practice I've done has made a really big difference for me.... good stuff. That DVD along with David Hough's book "more proficient motorcycling" have my highest thumbs up.
  15. i've got about 250 this year, but most of that was on a single saturday ride with the club. we cancelled an overnighter that was gonna depart outta dallas heading south (generally). been looking forward to that one for a while, but it's a little chancey planning any rides this time of year around here.

    Itchin' to ride

goddangit. if that dont make ya wanna get out there, you ain't got no pulse!!!!
  17. man what a great insightful post. i watched that video several times and was right on track with your response. check out the HURT report, read "Ride like a Pro" and "Ride Hard, Ride Safe" and many others. I'm new this forum but i think most of us are "under-represented" in the insurance industries. make your own concusions, of course.
  18. yep popeye, i was wondering about that. seems i remember a little sign up in a service station many decades ago that said "Hey, you don't bring your own eggs and bacon to a restaurant and ask 'em what they charge to just cook 'em."
  19. someone's gotta ask the dumb question.... might as well be me. was this ride on a bike?
