Rear brake m/c res fill plug?
Condor replied to 6m459's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I've been thinking about doing something like that to. Get another reserve plug and drill and tap it for a 1/4" bib fitting and hook it up to larger storage for bleeding. The Speedi Bleeder is interesting. Although I didn't look that hard, they don't seem to have a listing for just the bleeder without the adapter. -
The trailer seems like it's gonna be neat looking, but I gotta ask a question. On single wheeled trailers with the wheel in the back... what does it do to the 'tongue' weight on the bike? With a standard trailer the load can be balanced to give the correct amount of tongue weight, and the Uni-Go single has the wheel in the center which I suppose could be balanced somewhat. But with a single rear wheel the more payload you stick in there the more the weight on the rear axle of the bike will increase. I think it's something like half of the total, or a 300# payload will put an extra 150#'s on the bike's rear axle. I think....?? Correct me if I'm off base here....

Weird charging issue
Condor replied to ScottXD45's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yeah, I'd suggest replacing the kill switch too. It's worn and probably only making very lite contact. Any pressure at all and the contact is lost. However.... before doing the replacement spray some contact cleaner in there and toggle the switch back and forth a bunch. It may just be dirty..?? On the charging issue. I don't know of any wiring close to the shift spline coming out of the stator cover. That hole is seperate from anything on the inside of the stator. There is a neutral switch on the inside that does have a grond to it, but I don't think that would have anything to do with the charging circutry??? -
A lot of people don't know that they are dealing with ABS. I use ABS Weld and glass roving. Same result, but not nearly as messy... And.... All ABS cracks eventually...

Maybe in WV it's considered a motorcycle, but here in CA, although it's considered a MC the rider doesn't need to have an MC indorsement to legally ride. I'm sure each state's VC's are different, and probably 60 interpretations for all 50 states....

Rocket called last night, and after we stopped BS'ing I went outside and was treated to a lightening display like I've never seen in these parts for close to 40 years.. It constantly thundered for over a half hour. I know in the midwest this is probably a drop in the bucket, but around here it's non-existant... until last night. We generally get one cold storm the first part of June and it dumps 6" to a foot on snow in the Sierras, but this one was warm and came right out of the south. Amazing stuff for a California Boy....

Since I'm too lazy to go out and check myself I thought I'd pop the question. When removing the rear upper frame assembly, do I need to worry about it being a part of the support holding the frame together, and will it make things go very bad...very quickly if not supporting the chasis. Tom Patterson's old '90 parts bike took a shot to the rear and bent up the trunk mount and frame, and lo-and-behold I actually have another upper... to replace the bent one. The rest of the frame looks pretty straight. I just wanted to make sure that the whole rig doesn't go ka-plooey when I take out that last bolt....

I'm looking at one of the big pictures and it's a grill, not a griddle, and it looks like it would be a PITA keeping it clean. Unless you only did hot dogs.... I think I'd opt for a regular 2 burner and pick up one of those cast iron griddles with the ridges in it for grilling.

Fork brace group buy....
Condor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Take a deep breath... now exhale slowly... The group buy has ended as of last night. I've shot an email off to the builder, and should be getting enough braces to cover everyone's order. It shouldn't take very long and expect to ship within 10 to 14 days barring any 'murphs'. -
Carb Diaphragm info...finally
Condor replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I missed the folding set. I tried to pick up a set of TP sockets from Harbor Frieght, and the one size...#25... that fits the TP on the diaphragm cover wasn't included in the set. So I went and bouight them for more money :mo money:somewhere else. Can't remember where.- 122 replies

Owning an '83 that only shows a needle width above horizontal in the green is a miracle in itself. I'd suspect the temp being much hotter than indicated and fan kicking in. You might have a faulty temp guage.. Try letting the bike idle on the center stand until the fan kicks in and note the reading. It should kick in just below the red zone.

Joe, unlike the brakes the clutch is a direct hydralic system. With all things being good, there's no reason why you would need to pump the lever to get the clutch to do it's job... unless the rubber cup is worn in the master piston. Probably time for a rebuild. OMHO....

Buy one from Piggy Backer or Harbor Frieght and have Bushtec painted on the side.
