something has failed miserably

The fuel pump will only click until the carb bowls are full. Once full, there is no more clicking sounds. -
Crazy things you'd like to try just one time...

OK; on a more serious note....let's see. Ah, ,me alone on a two week long fishing trip with the Dallas Cowboy cheer leaders on a small fishing boat. That Sarah Papalini joke sort of comes to mind -

Cold Blooded
MasterGuns replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Mine fires right up instantly. Never said that was the issue. I just returned from the garage but this time, after all these years, didn't use any choke even though it is in the forties and she is cold. Fired right up, no popping or snarling. Guess I really don't need the choke. All is good. Nothing more needed. These are really wonderful bikes; just wish it could be a fast as my FJR13. -
Are all lst Gens cold-blooded? Mine, and the last three lst Gens had, are/were very cold blooded when first started cold. The lst Gen I have now runs like a new bike once it warms up a bit, but pops and cracks sputters and displays an overall bad grouchy attitude when first starting it. If it is already warm, even so little that I can hold onto all four exhaust pipes, she starts up and immediately runs like a champ. When cold, reminds me of my wife. Oops; glad she does read this site. But seriously, are they all like this or is there something off, needing adjustment, replaced or what?

I am about as proud, honored and thank God to have been born an American as anyone. Served her honorably in the Corps for over thirty plus years. These guys did one hell of a rendition of our National anthem. Hearing it I had to stand at attention while saluting my laptop. SEMPER FI

Please post GOOD pictures with your items for sale
MasterGuns replied to Miles's topic in Watering Hole
You could be losing out on a really great item if you assume that just because pictures are not great the seller is trying to deceive you. Not everyone is dishonest and trying to hide something. That may apply of Fleabay but not here -
Just wait.....there is going be "no mo" lots of other things too. I am contemplating on moving to Costa Rica or Thailand. The hell with this place.

Spare Fuel for long Trip
MasterGuns replied to alvald83's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
On long runs where fueling stations were few and far between, I strapped a 2-gal regular ole plastic gas can on the right side passenger floor board. Was skeered to put fuel inside one of my bags. Besides all my bag/trunk space was already used up. -
Blackwing, I happen to have a full rebuilt set. Originally came off an 88; ole Crimson Tides old bike. He had new diaphrams and one slide replaced by The Motorcycle Shop in Hurst, Texas. The top mechanic disassembled all four carbs, soaked them in some kine of a cleaning solution, replaced all the diaphrams new, one slide as well as some other stuff. Reinstalled back onto Crimson Tides 88 and the thing still didn't run. Turned out to be something with either the pickup coils and then the TCI. Anyway Crimson Tide parted out the entire bike. He sold the carbs to another member out in Ca and that member never used them. That member sold them to me as I thought if I ever needed a set, I'd have a spare set. But, I will l soon be putting my 86 up for sale as I have gone sport touring and purchased a new FJR and have sunk several thousand bucks into it making it even more of a touring bike. I won't be needing this extra set. These carbs are clean to the bone, and should do you good. PM me if interested.

Buckeye HO upgraded stator
MasterGuns replied to Squidley's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
All 1st editions have a 28 amp system and even the Buckeye HO stator does not increase the amp output. Brad, good luck with running heated gear on a lst edition. I've tried warming gear on three different lst editions; one with the so called HO stator. With the jacket drawing approximate 8.5 amps, gloves 2.5 amps, you can tie it it but you won't keep it tied in for very long. My old HD, had a 45 amp system I believe and I even burned up a stator on it running a full compliment of one set of warming gear; jacket liner, pants, gloves and socks (total about 18 - 19 amps at 12v dc). My FJR seems to hold it well but it has a more modernized 48 amp output. -

Has anyone ever ridden a sport touring bike??
MasterGuns replied to we2riders's topic in Watering Hole
Ah come-on now. The riding position isn't as bad as most make it out to be. I got rid of my Harley Ultra and picked up a brand new FJR1300 in April. I installed a MCL top plate and a peg lowering kit. I also installed a Corbin heated seat and a CBaily windscreen. I rode down to Boerne, Texas today; just got home from a little better than a 500 mile day. I will soon be 64 and can easily put in a 600 mile day; even several consecutive 600 mile days. I have it set up with all the entertainment stuff too, CB, GPS w/MPG, FM radio and RD (no cassette; ha ha). One thing you must be prepared for and take time to adjust to, is the 145 HP really, really powerful but not R1 fast. Get the Concours; you'll love it but it won't be a comfy for the wife. Lastly, when I want to fall asleep while riding, I take out the 86 VR (my ole girl). -
How's this?.....BS!

I replaced the starter clutch on three of my last four 1st Gens. Each time not only did I replace the clutch mechanism but also the 72 gear starter gear; part of which the pins on the starter clutch engage. Never had a problem with any of the bikes again. However, what I finally realized with all three starter clutches supposedly going bad was actually the result of high quality fully synthetic oil (Amsoil). My current 1st Gen has not had a start clutch problem but if I run Amsoil I notice that sometimes the starter clutch slips and does not engage. So, I drained the synthetic and replaced it with a high quality dino motorcycle oil and havent had a problem since. Just my 2 cents. Don't know if you have synthetic in yours or not but if you do and you haven't also replaced the large 72 starter gear, well.......

What do you expect in Houston? or Dallas for that matter. Been rear ended 9 times in the last 14 years. Hey, nice battery.

Since I have gotten rid of the Harley, it is now never "too hot" to ride. And what does a snow shovel look like?
