  1. I like it. My wife keeps asking me to fix up our Unigo for our Golden Retriever. Somehow I just don't see him fitting in there. Not sure what speeds you are running but one concern I have is the shock and vibration to the dogs. My Unigo suspension is very stiff and it really bounces around over bumps. Dennis
  2. I noticed the same thing. I found an ebay seller that has it and I'm trying to confirm the shipping charges for more than 1 can. Dennis
  3. I commute on the bike and am off and on several times a day. I find the headset cord a pain and I go through a couple of them a year. Does anyone make a bluetooth system that would work with the existing radio system? I'm thinking of something like a bluetooth transmitter dongle that could plug into the bike's original headset connector and a reciever that would mount in helmet. I would like to eliminate the headset cord. Maybe I should patent that idea! Dennis
  4. That's why I have a speedo-healer. Dennis
  5. Jerry, I'll weigh in here. I've pulled a single wheel Unigo trailer about 15K miles. There is torque on the hitch and you can feel it when you lift the bike off the sidestand and when you ride through the twisties. As you transition from side to side you have to also swing the mass of the trailer. My hitch is a vertical reciever which gives me little to no slop in the left to right leaning motion. I had a friend weld a bead along the hitch insert and then we ground it to fit so there is no motion in either direction. For photos of my trailer and the hitch connection go to: http://www.traynorphoto.com/unigo/ One concern I have for your trailer is the weight distribution. I'm not sure where you will position the wheel but if it is behind the box you are going to have significant tougne weight. My trailer weighs about 75 lbs empty and I generally carry about 50 lbs in it. I try to load all of the heavier stuff as far back as possible and I still get about 45 lbs at the tounge. About 1/3 of the total weight. I must tell you that causes me concern. In my opinion the hitch connection on the RSV is very weak. The structure that holds the hitch also supports the bags and trunk. That weight is static. Now consider you will occaisionally hit a bump or hole and if you consider that you will see dynamic shock of just 5 G's that will give you a dynamic load of nearly 250 lbs. And, if you consider that you have another 30 lbs or so in the bags and trunk thats another 150 lbs of dynamic force on the mounting system. I would feel better if I only had 10% to 15% of the weight on the tounge. Where you notice the trailer the most is at parking lot speeds. You have to balance weight of the trailer in addition to the bike and riders. It's like carrying a third person. If you bobble your feet coming to a stop and let it get slightly off center it is very difficult to keep it up. I know, I've strained myself several times. Now after all this, if I were buying a trailer again I would probably go with a 2 wheel trailer. Your mileage may vary. Dennis
  6. I second that. We've been using an Invisible fence for 20 years with 3 golden retrievers and it works great. Dennis
  7. I won a couple of cans of Protectall spray at the Vogel meet last year and that stuff is far better than the Honda spray and others that I've tried. Wipes off easily and doesn't smear. Leaves a very slick finish. http://www.protectall.com/searchresult.aspx?CategoryID=2 Dennis
  8. Depending on the date, I'm in. Dennis
  9. I just had my fairing replaced due to the broken tabs a few weeks ago. My dealer blamed it on the missing bolts from the windshield bracket and pretty much told me they were doing me a favor because "I" left the bolts out when I was in the fairing for some of my wiring. That pissed me off a bit so I sent him all of the information I could find regarding others with missing bolts. Last week I stopped by the dealer again and the owner pretty much appologized to me because the following week he had another Venture come in with cracked tabs and missing bolts. It was sold by another area dealer. He thinks that the shop that he uses to assemble also contracts with other dealers and they must have a worker that's leaving the bolts out. He contacted them to investigate it. Check for your bolts? My windshield mount is much sturdier now. Dennis
  10. I'll weigh in here a bit. As a packaging engineer I work with expanded polystyrene (EPS), Styrofoam and expanded polyethelene (EPE) on a daily basis as cushioning material. Most all helmets I've looked at seem to have EPS liners. That is the part that cushions the head on impact. From my experience I see no degradation in EPS parts over a 5 year life. I often test parts older than that. I really don't think dropping a helmet will effect the EPS liner unless there is something inside the helmet to compress the foam. I believe one person mentioned that the outer shell may deflect and dent the foam. I really don't think that would happen unless there is something on the inside to prevent the foam from moving with the outer shell. Solvents and UV are certainly harmful to the foam. But I don't think skin oils and dirt will have any effect on the performance. As long as my helmet shell is in good condition and it hasn't been dropped with my head in it I'll consider it good. 11. Don't forget about the equation f=ma, force = mass x acceleration. There will definitely be more forces in the system with the lateral acceleration x the rider's mass. That's why those skinny sport bike riders can flick through the twisties much easier than us old fat guys (speaking of myself) on 850 lb bikes. I notice a real difference when riding 2-up with a bag on the trunk rack. I would also think the height of the rider and load would make a difference because it raises the COG. Dennis
  12. Don, I just sent a payment as a donation to Eileen's charity. No shirt for me. Hope to see you at Maint Day. Dennis
  13. I went back to Sam's today and looked over the chest again. The material is certainly not as thick as a good Sears unit. However for my use it will sit in the corner and rarely be moved, if ever. Probably half of it will be used for tools and the other half for storage of other stuff. I looked at the Lowe's Kobalt units and I like them but they seem to be about twice as expensive for comparable models. I haven't looked at Home Depot yet. I'm going back to Sears tonight just to check again but I expect they will fall out on cost. Dennis
  14. Great, If I need to I'll call back and up the block total. Dennis
  15. Joe, I just called the Red Roof Inn and effective today their high speed internet is free. What a coincident. I set up a block of 15 rooms that they are holding until April 28th. If you want to reserve a room out of that block the rate is $58.49. When you contact them tell them you are with the B184RIDERS group. I've not been to the hotel so I can't vouch for it but they advertise that it was recently remodeled. Here is the contact info. Red Roof Inn 2651 Wilhite Drive Lexington, KY 40503 (859) 277-9400 Dennis
  16. We don't have a Costco local but there is one about 70 miles away. I checked their web site and their chests seem to be more expensive. A 42" at Costco was $950 or so compared to $700 for a 42" at Sam's. Dennis
  17. No problem Eck, I've already got that monster grill from Sam's Club. Come on up Memorial weekend and we'll fire it up. Dennis
  18. Thanks for the feedback Earl. That's exactly what I was looking for. I'll probably just leave the chest parked in a corner. The 42" chest seems to have enough room for my stuff but I was thinking for the money difference I would just get the larger one and have room to grow. It may be wiser to go with the smaller one. Dennis
  19. My current Sears tool chest is full and I can't find anything in it because there's no room to organize. I've been looking at a bigger chest with different drawer sizes where I can store all of my tools including power tools. I can't justify the expense of the large Crafstman chests. I found this chest http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=388158 at Sam's and it looks like it has plenty of storage and the price seems OK. It's made in Taiwan and I'm a bit concerned how well it will hold up over the years. Does anyone have any experience with this chest or the 42" chest that Sam's also carries? Thanks, Dennis
  20. I've started thinking about the planning for the Memorial weekend gathering in Central KY and I would like to make a couple of hotel suggestions. This year it may be better for people to stay in south Lexington. For a less expensive hotel I would suggest the Red Roof Inn near the intersection of US27 South and New Circle road. http://redroof.com/reservations/property-detail.aspx?pid=00184 The rates there seem to be around $60/night and for a little more upscale there is a Comfort Suite at Harrodsburg Rd and New Circle which I think I can get for around $95/night. For those arriving Friday Valerie and I would like to host a cookout at our place Friday evening. Nothing fancy, just burgers and hot dogs. I haven't planned the rides yet but we can find good riding in most any direction. I was thinking one day we could go southwest toward Gravel Switch and stop at Penn's Store, http://www.pennsstore.com/ And possibly from there on to Bardstown. I'm sure we can plan a couple of good days of riding. I can't wait for this lousy weather to break and get us into spring. Especially Memorial weekend. Hope we get a good turnout. Dennis
  21. Wes, The first set I installed cracked also. One cracked and one fogged up and I only rode with them for about 2 miles. So I ordered another set. When I mounted the first set I placed the thin metal ring behind the light and I found it very difficult to get the chrome bezel on. So when I tightened the bezel there was just too much pressure on the light assembly. When I mounted the second set I left the thin metal ring off and the bezel went on much easier and then I just snugged the bezel screw down. The lens seems tight and doesn't rotate. After 10 miles it still seems OK. You might try leaving the thin metal ring off. Dennis
  22. OK after having lived with the truck for a couple of weeks I am very pleased with it. The mileage is about what I expected. Over 3 tanks of gas with my standard driving with a mix of city and highway I've averaged 13.5 mpg which is the same as my old 5.3L Tahoe. I really like the bluetooth phone once I figured out how to use it. Just speak and it dials. All cars should have that. The weather was decent here today and we cleaned it up from the salt and snapped a couple of photos. Dennis
  23. I finally got my bike back today after having the fairing replaced due to the cracks around the windshield bolts. Apparently Yamaha was reluctant to replace it because they thought someone had removed the bolts from the metal bar. The same ones KK and Ponch mentioned. I explained to the dealer that that was the way I received the bike and he didn't seem to want to believe me. I sent him the quotes from KK and Ponch. Appears there is at least 3 of us with the bolts missing. I would be interested to hear from others with the bolts missing. Dennis
  24. Oh root canals! In August of '08 I went in for a routine root canal and ended up spending 10 days in the hospital in Lexington followed by 5 days at the Mayo Clinic and ended up with a feeding tube in my stomach until November. Routine my ass! Dennis
