I've got a question for the firefighters. What type of fire do you use a 105 ft ladder truck on? Our local volunteer fire department spent over $750,000 on a truck similar to the one pictured here and the chief has stated that it is too big to go down many of the county roads in the district and on others it shouldn't be driven more than 30 mph. It seems to me that this type of apparatus is better suited for urban areas with high-rise buildings. Not rural developments where the houses or buildings are more than 100' from the road. Does this make sense or am I missing something? DT

I forgot to add that my external USB drive is only powered on when Lightroom is importing images and needs to backup. That should keep very few running hours on the drive and I've never seen one fail setting on the shelf without power. Dennis

Drive space is cheap. I have a file server on my home network. I use Adobe Lightroom to catalog my images. In my desktop I have a 1 terrabyte drive that is only for images. For backup I have an external USB 1 terrabyte and a 1 terrabyte drive in the file server. I never copy images directly from the card to the computer using windows file manager. I use Lightroom to import the files from the card and place them onto the desktop's 1 terrabyte drive. As Lightroom imports the images the software tags each image with key words that will allow me to search for images based on the topic, location, date, person, etc. As the images are imported and cataloged, Lightroom also backs up all of the images to the external USB drive. And then a couple of times a month I back up my entire catalog to the file server. Terrabyte drives are less than $100 now. When my destop drive is full I'll just pull it out and place both it and the external drive on a shelf for backup and install two more drives. If I need to work on one of the old images I can pull it from the file server. So far I have over 25,000 images cataloged an I'm not through. I really like Lightroom. The software is exprensive but well worth the money. Dennis

Gary, Glad your able to tell us about the incident. Heal up quickly. Thanks for posting. It's another reminder for all of us to back off a bit for safety. I know I catch myself following too close sometimes. Thanks for the remider. Dennis

I had the Warm-n-Safe jacket and it was replaced once due to the stitching coming apart. After the second one did the same thing I switched to the Tourmaster Synergy jacket. It gets much warmer. Dennis

I took my '07 RSV into the dealer yesterday for a valve adjustment and to check a couple of other things. One of which was the clutch basket chirp. They ordered the new basket right away and should have it in a few days. I'm going to pick the bike up tomorrow so I'll have it to ride on the weekend and then I'll take it back in next week for the clutch install and valve adjustment. The clutch chirp has started to annoy me and I believe it is getting worse as I put on more miles. I've got about 30k on it now. Hope it helps a bit. Dennis

I talked to a dealer yesterday and he said that Yamaha is not having a national dealer meeting this year. Instead, they are doing regional meetings and they may not have any bikes to show at the meetings. Just a slide show. Some kind of cost cutting measure. DT

I plan to add a third set of mounting holes for the chocks in the center. I need to order the parts from Aluma so I can have the same mounting screw set up for the center position. Dennis

Congrats on owning you truck. It feels good. Yesterday I wrote the check to pay off the last $41k on my house and it feels real good. DT

The trailer I bought is an Aluma MC210 and they run about $3000. They're single place trailer is the MC10 and they run about $1900. There are Aluma dealers all over the country. Just do a web search and you will find one. Aluma's web site has a dealer locator. I see you are from FL and I ran across several dealers there when I was searching. I bought mine from Allstate trailers in Knoxville, http://www.allstatetrailers.com/ Dennis

I believe the weight of the trailer is about 450 lbs. The steel and wood utility trailer I was using weighed about 900 lbs. Dennis

A Venture on a trailer! I just picked up a new trailer yesterday after much deliberation between open and closed trailers. I loaded the bike on today to see how it fit and take it for a test ride. It pulled quite well. I needed a trailer for those once a year vacations when my wife insists on bringing everything but the kitchen sink. It's a small price to pay for those other trips throughout the year when she agrees to ride. I got tired of borrowing utility trailers and wanted one set up properly for bikes. This one does seem to be a very nice trailer and it should be for what it cost. It would have been cheaper to buy an enclosed trailer. Dennis

I hit the rev limiter at about 6400 rpm on my '07. It was the same on my '04. Dennis

Mine too. I have a vibration in 4th and 5th gear when I accelerate from about 3000 rpm. Hasn't always been there. I can be cruising along at 60 mph with the cruise control engaged and come to a slight grade and when the throttle rolls on I really feel it. I've changed the plugs and confirmed the carb synch. Tuesday it goes to the dealer for repair. Dennis

Has anyone found a way to connect a bluetooth telephone to the sound system on a RSV without using a Zumo 550? While I use a Zumo, my brother just bought a RSV and would like to have access to his telephone but has no interest in a GPS. Is there a way? Dennis

I've been thinking about buying a trailer to haul the bike on occasionally and everyone here has talked me out of an enclosed trailer in favor of an open one. Since I would like to be able to travel with friends I want to be able to haul two bikes. I've narrowed my choice down to an Aluma MC210. It's a bit pricey at $2900 but I like the all aluminum construction. Does anyone have any experience with either the MC210 or MC10 (single bike) trailers? How does the RSV fit on the trailer? Would it be possible to move a wheel chock to the center to carry a single bike? Here's a couple of links to the trailers: http://www.trailershopper.com/page-23447.html http://www.alumaklm.com/mc210_motorcycle_trailer.html Thanks, Dennis

When I needed to paint my trailer to match my blue '07 I just went to the local auto finishes store and they brought out a device and read the color from my saddle bag lid and then went back and loaded the data into the computer. After crunching the data it spit out a color code to mix. It matched perfectly. I think it was PPG paint. DT

Developed a vibration-what to check?
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Goose, I did note the plug positions. I'll check the cap tomorrow. I didn't realize the caps unscrewed. I'll report back after I check it. Dennis -

OK, just finished changing the spark plugs and took it out for a ride. I can't say I feel any difference in the vibration under load, moderate acceleration from 60 mph on a slight grade. Attached are photos of the plugs that I took out of it after 6000 miles. I guess I'll contact the dealer next week. Dennis -
Developed a vibration-what to check?

It's definetly engine related. I feel it most in 5th gear and accelerating. Let off the gas and it smooths right out. My wife has ridden a lot of miles with me and she picked up on it with cruise set on about 65 and we started up a grade. She yelled in my ear wanting to know what the problem was. Dennis -

No, I don't have the covers but I do have them on order. Dennis -
My bike suddenly developed a vibration when I roll the throttle on at highway speeds, 60 mph and above. *It started while on a ride last weekend and my wife noticed the vibration from the backrest. Once she pointed it out I noticed it too. My first thought was a problem with carb synch but I synched them right before Vogel and Goose checked them for me while at Vogel. *So I checked them again when I got home and the synch was still perfect. *I also put new caps on the vacuum ports. So now I'm thinking it's an ignition issue. Spark plug, wire or coil. *The plugs only have about 6000 miles on them but I plan to install a new set this weekend. *Is there anything else I can check? *Is there an easy way to check the coils or wires or should I just let the dealer do that? Thanks, Dennis

They installed the 4-cable barrier around New Circle Rd, the expressway loop around Lexington. They placed it about 6 feet off the inner loop pavement. While it has prevented a few cars from crossing the median into oncoming traffic, it scares me to ride in the left lane of the inner loop. Before if you got forced off the pavement you may stand a chance of "riding it out" and getting back on the road. With only 5 or 6 feet of manuvering room you don't stand a chance. I guess we are just part of the statistics. Sacrifice a few bikers to save a few head-on collisions. DT
