  1. I've not been satisfied with the Ajure passing lamp lens and I would like to go to a halogen housing. So I'm still wondering if the Vstar lamps will fit on the Venture light bar? The catalog says they are not for the Venture and I just wonder why they won't work. I know the switch is on the housing so it would be tough to reach if that was the only switch. Any other reasons? Dennis
  2. You're right. My wife and I commented on that yesterday while we were out. I think it was higher than 90% without. Helmet always! Dennis
  3. I picked my Mightyvac from O'Riely's Auto parts. You might check there or at Autozone. About $40. Dennis
  4. You are correct. Kentucky first enacted a motorcycle helmet law for all riders in 1968. This law was amended in July 1998 to require helmet use only by: • Motorcycle operators and passengers under the age of 21; • Motorcycle operators who possess a motorcycle instruction permit; • Motorcycle operators who have had an operator’s license for less than one year. 5. Wow, a carbon fiber wing, Nice! I look forward to seeing it next week. If they would just move those pegs forward about 6 or 8 inches I would be on one too. We'll let you ride at the back of the pack next weekend, right behind the Harleys. Dennis
  6. Mike, I'm not sure that one is the carbon fiber model. The description says carbon fiber but the photo doesn't show it and the price isn't the same as the carbon fiber elsewhere on the site. The black carbon helmet should be more of a charcoal grey and show the weave pattern similar to this one. http://www.kneedraggers.com/details/HJC_FS15_helmet_Carbon_Red--642323.html According to the HJC site the FS-15 non-carbon is a fiberglass composite shell. http://www.hjchelmets.com/ Dennis
  7. Mike, you might also look at this Joe Rocket helmet. http://www.2wt.org/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=0028 The folks at Helmet City told me that it is the same helmet and made by HJC. Dennis
  8. Mike, When I ordered mine they only had 2 XXL's. If you do a web search for the helmet you should find some other retailers with it and you may find your size. I know that Derby Cycles in Lexington had a black XXL yesterday and they priced it at $240. They are a new store and I had trouble finding a number for them but this one may work, 859-523-3729. Dennis
  9. I've use HJC CL-33 helmets for years and always wanted a full face helmet but could never get one to work with my fat head. I've tried on every brand, style and price full face helmet and they all pinched my head and pushed my cheeks up to my eyes. I was in a local accessory shop today and stumbled across a full face HJC FS-15 Carbon Fiber Helmet. The helmet is both DOT and SNELL rated. I was intrigued by the carbon fiber and it looked really nice. After admiring it for a few minutes I noticed that it was my size as I started to put it down and thought what the heck, I'll try it on. Was I ever surprised. The helmet fit like a glove and one of the most comfortable helmet I've ever tried. My head wasn't distorted at all once inside. After studying it more I was unsure if I could get a headset installed in it or not. I left the store to do some research on headset installation and after talking to the folks at Sierra Electronics I was convinced it could be done. So, I just ordered two of them (Valerie's needs to match) from this site: http://www.2wt.org/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=0118 They are on closeout and in short supply. Reg retail $449 and they're being closed out at about $235 with shipping. If you ride a blue '07 they have a blue that looks like it would be a perfect match to the bike. And I was told by one store that HJC makes the same helmet branded as Joe Rocket and it can be bought for about $179. I know it is a bit late to ask, but does anyone have any experience with this helmet. Dennis
  10. We have the J&M headsets with the foam sock over each microphone. We usually ride with the IC volume on 8 or 9 and the road noise isn't bad and we can hear each other OK. What settings are you using? Dennis
  11. I commute daily with the Venture as long as the weather cooperates (no chance of ice). We also do weekends and at least one long trip (2,000 - 4,000 miles) each year. I've often thougth of getting a smaller cruiser for my commutes and town riding but I think I would miss the trunk and bags which are so handy for my errands. A large pizza fits nicely in the trunk and I've been known to stop at Sam's Club and strap some large items on the back seat. Dennis
  12. I would like to ask everyone coming in Friday and that will be joining us for dinner to please update your status on the calendar for the 28th and indicate how many guests with you. We're planning for food and I would like to get a fairly close count. Right now I think we have 11 people listed and I think there will be more than that. The agenda will look something like this: Friday afternoon folks arrive. I'll meet everyone at the Red Roof Inn and lead you back to our place for dinner (nothing fancy). On Saturday morning we meet everyone at the Red Roof and travel a few blocks for breakfast (it will beat the freebie you get at the hotel). From there we'll take off on a day ride through central Ky and the horse farm area. Probably similar to last year. We'll finish the day in Midway at Darlin' Jean's for dinner like last year. On Sunday breakfast is on your own and we'll probably take off on a ride (destination yet to be determined) until Sun afternoon. After a little rest we'll head out to a local restaurant for dinner. Monday most will depart and if anyone sticks around we'll find something to do. If we need to make adjustments we can. Valerie and I are looking forward to the weekend. Hope you are too! Dennis & Valerie
  13. Ed, if you're coming in Saturday morning you'll need to get here early or you'll probably miss us. We'll probably meet somewhere for breakfast around 8:00 and then be off on a day ride by 9:30 or so. From Maysville to Lexington is probably around 67 miles and should take you about an hour and 15 minutes. I'll try to get a more detailed agenda posted later this week. Looking forward to meeting you. Dennis
  14. Thanks! I had never heard of the app but it seems to work well. Now I can cruise the forums while I wait for my wife to shop. Dennis
  15. I'm thining about it. Got some clean up chores related to all of the water we've had lately that I need to get taken care of. If I can get that done this week we might. Dennis
  16. Kevin, your just not riding nearly enough! Dennis
  17. Sounds good. Took about 30 seconds to spool up and sounds great. Great music selections so far. Dennis
  18. Since it was a rainy day today I was able to get in the garage to change out my clutch fluid. It was a fairly simple process and the mityvac worked well. I actually pulled air into the line because I wanted to drain the master cylinder so I could clean all of the black stuff out of it. After refilling I used the mityvac to pull the equivalent of 3 or 4 cylinders full of fluid through the line. After I finished I thought I had really screwed up because I had no clutch. After my initial panic I pumped the lever what seemed like hundreds of times and it pressurized. All is well now. Thanks to eveyone here for advice. Dennis
  19. I am about to tackle replacing my clutch fluid. I've read posts here about pumping the clutch and bleeding it. However, I have invested in a MityVac and plan to use it. I've never done this before but from what I've read it seems that all I need to do is connect the vac to the bleeder valve and pull the old fluid out as I pour new fluid into the master cylinder. Is it really that simple? Has anyone used a MityVac to do this? Attached is a photo of the MityVac kit I bought. Thanks for the help, Dennis
  20. I've used Dyna beads and they worked for me. The tires on my bike now were balanced by the dealer and I don't think they are as smooth as the ones before with Dyna beads. Dennis
  21. I have the same Ajure lights as everyone else. I cracked one from the first set. I found that if I left the metal ring from the sealed beam in place it was very tight which probably contributed to the cracked lens. On the second set I left the ring off and snugged the chrome bezel up so the lens wouldn't rotate and I have had no problems over the last 6 weeks or so. I've put a couple of thousand miles on so far. But I agree, they're probably not worth the $20. Dennis
  22. Thanks Eck, I typically like Nelson Rigg gear. I think I would kill myself on the side of road trying to get into a 1 piece suit. I have enough trouble getting into a 2 piece suit. I went out yesterday looking at different suits, Columbia, BMW, Harley, Tourmaster, etc. So far I am leaning toward a Harley suit or maybe the Nelson Rigg Volante. I just wish Harley made one without that big logo across the back. Dennis
  23. Does the Nelson-Rigg Volante suit pack into a small pouch? Is it a light weight suit? Dennis
  24. I checked Costco's web site for wetskins and couldn't find them. Are these seasonal items? Do the wetskins have zippers at the ankles to help with slipping over boots? Dennis
  25. I'm ready to look for a new rain suit. I have a set of Frogg Togg Road Toads but I don't like the pants. After wearing them a few times they seem really worn in the crotch and seat area. The jacket seems OK. I have a pair of nylon rain pants I picked up at the Bass Pro shop that I really like but I have a hole in one of the legs that I've got patched with duct tape. The things I like about these pants is that they pack up really small into their own back pocket and they are light weight. I've looked at Nelson Riggs, Tourmaster and Fieldsheer suits and they all seem to be much heavier and bulkier to pack and they seem like they would be very hot during summer showers. I stopped at a Harley shop recently and found this packable suit that seems OK but I hate the logo emblazend across the back, http://www.stpaulharley.com/Men-s-Packable-Rainsuit-98028-09VM-p/98028-09vm.htm I don't want pants with suspenders because I want to be able to throw the jacket on first quickly if I need to. What's everybody using for rain gear? Dennis
