Mark, Just wondering if you are planning on flying or driving down to Arizona and then riding the bike back (assuming you get it)? Now this is what I call an Arizona "buy-cott"! I'm planning on spending some money down there myself.

If you have an '05-'09 RSTD, under the driver's seat is an odd white plug that is capped. They call this an auxiliary DC jack that is rated for like 5 amps. I didn't have any luck finding a companion plug so I just cut the odd plug off and wired directly. This plug is hot only while the ignition switch is in either ACC or ON. Since it has a low amp rating, it is only suitable to energize a relay coil.

Well thanks to this thread I decided to change mine (15,000+ miles) yesterday. Not too difficult and I do think it was time. The old one was rusty colored, maybe from the ethanol? Remove top hose clamp and pull filter out through bottom. What surprised me though, is that no fuel leaked out of the hoses. I do always shut the petcock and the bike hadn't been ridden for a few days, but I would have expected the lines to be full.

The second Ace Hardware store I went to had the ILCO ym63 keys in stock. They actually had a few boxes of motorcycle specific blanks. Got two keys for a grand total of $4.58 and they both work great.

I'm impressed with your picture!

Rear air shock leak
Leland replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That won't help much either. Best to leave it on the left side. More room there. I had mine moved to the right side at last tire change, thinking like you. I'm going back to the left (tire stems only). -
I think you made a good decision. I had to find out the hard way.

Hope you're happy with the recurve. I wasn't! I thought it distorted the view. Especially bad looking thru it in a curve. Actually gave me a headache. I initially bought the stock 21" height, but couldn't stand looking through the recurve. Then I cut the bottom down 4" which wasn't too bad, but I still didn't like the recurve. That's why I bought the 16½" without it. I honestly see no value in the recurve. I get no helmet buffeting to speak of.

I've been Accessorizing
Leland replied to Leland's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Dave, To answer your questions. #1: Yes the low profile with the 24" leads is what I used. #2: I mounted with the hinge side down because I feel that it is easier to see the hole without the cover in the way. #3: Powerlet offers Powerlet to Cigarette Socket adapters. With these, you can just use your standard chargers. #4: Have used these since the install to power my Garmin Zumo GPS and the Battery Tender and have had no problems. Leland -

Heel - Toe shifter has to go!
Leland replied to Owen's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Like others here, I rarely use the heel shifter. It is usually just in the way of sliding my foot back, but I hated the idea of just wacking it off. By shortening it, it is mostly out of the way, but still available for those few times it's used. Just cut out an 1¼" section, drilled and tapped both ends and used a ¼-20 X ¾" SS Set-screw. All work done with just hand tools.- 60 replies

Did the "Land and Sea" on Princess in '06. Three days on land, seven on sea. Great trip. But, whatever you do, I highly recommend that you spend the extra money and get a cabin with an outside balconey. Unlike ocean cruises, there is always something to see! Doesn't matter which side of the ship, the Captain will turn the ship around at the highlights.

Rick Butler seat mod., + seat beads = Comfortable 800+ mile day.

I did that and wished that I hadn't. The brake disc is more of a pain than the left side set up. Next tire change, I'm going back to the left (tire stems only).

I wouldn't use the existing headlamp wires to power the relay coil. You would still be without lights if you blew that same fuse.
