  1. I just did everything possible that I can think of to bring winter back. I got the bike cleaned up and running. I put all of the snow shovels away. I took the snow brush and ice scraper out of the truck. Started taking down the storm windows and putting up the screens. I don't know what else I can do to bring back winter???
  2. What are some of the things that you do after the winter storage before you take the bike out the frist time.
  3. Hi, Anyone have any info on whether 2 '84's could be parked side by side inside a Trike sized BikeBarn? http://www.thebikebarn.net/images/smartbarn_sidecar.jpg I guess what it comes down to is: can they be parked side by side in less than 72"? Which is the response from the good folks at BikeBarn. I am thinking I may need to use a nose to tail apporoach. My bikes are still in winter storage in my dad's garage so I can't run out and measure. I am looking for a storage solution for next winter, as dad's garage will not be available to me then. The BB and a bit of real estate in my side garden, is looking like my best solution so far. Thoughts, advice, experience, 2 bikes handy to measure? Thanks, Brian H. PS, there seems to be a free shipping sale on at BB till the end of March!
  4. Just got my new chrome saddle bag protecter bars. Went ice fishing yesterday and they were laying on the porch when I got home lastnight. Remodeling our bathroom this winter but Im getting anxious to wrap it up so I can get tinkering with the bike. Got a few things to do on it now woot!
  5. Well, it is freekin Snowing in West by god Waller,Texas!!!!! I sure hate winter!!! I moved 2400 miles to get away from this #@!@..............
  6. It is winter and I'm still hearing a whining noise! Oh, that's these people in Iowa who are whining about all the snow we have this year!
  7. I looked at the calender a few minutes ago and see that within a day or so, we will be halfway through winter. If I survive this thing, this will be a winter I will never forget. As bad as it has been here in east Tennessee, I know it has been a lot worse for a lot of you. It is right now 20º outside with 20/30 mph winds for a chill factor of 6º with snow blowing sideways and almost a whiteout. Just wonderful. RandyA

  9. 8 inches of snow turning to ice as the temp last night was 9 degrees but that's all right I got a 4x4x with new tires right? Wrong! 4x4 went out so now it is only two wheel but that's all right as long as I'm careful then everything else is good...WRONG!!! the heater blower quit. I might as well ride the BIKE!!! NO MO Winter!!! please:225:
  10. I just wanted to say thank you to John (jlh3rd) for starting the adding gauges thread and coming up with this great idea a while back to our 2nd gens. and giving the idea to PONCH for coming up with a full on-board kits as well, Also, thank you to VGoose for his write-up to better inform us on how to add all of this stuff. Freebird for finding the gauge sets that most of us are using ,this is an amazing place that it all came together with folks putting there minds together for this project. forgive me as I am sure there were other folks as well to make all this come together as well. Heck it took me 3 or 4 trys to get my water temp fixed, but now there is no more leak, this was one of my MANY winter projects on my bike this winter , I think I might be almost done with them , still another month or so until I can ride. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU ! And your efforts for making this happen! (sure was an awesome idea to get rid of that wasted space) I wonder how many cassette players are sitting on shelf's now? Jeff
  11. OK, so heres some more winter drivel for ya......Describe your version of NORMAL. Since I already know that im not normal I really cant describe it now, can I? Or is that just me being normal?? I dunno!!!!
  12. The gravel roads out to the pavement are almost melted clear, just another couple of sunny days:sun1:and I'll be able to get the bike out to the pavement for a ride... But look what's coming: ... Winter storm possible Friday through Sunday... A strong winter storm will affect much of the northern plains Friday through Sunday. This system will bring freezing fog and freezing rain to the region on Friday... and the potential for 6 or more inches of snow Saturday through Sunday. In addition to the snow... strong northwest winds may cause considerable blowing snow which could reduce visibilities. Uncertainty exists regarding the exact track of this storm and snowfall amounts... but it is likely that some parts of northeastern Wyoming and western South Dakota will be impacted. Monitor NOAA Weather Radio... internet... or your local media
  13. Warmed up today and for the last several days the weather has been in the high 30's and low 40's...Uncovered the beast and deceided to start her up and let it run for a while...streets are dry ,but my driveway is all ice....nope. didn't want to chance it ....had the tender on it all winter and she fired up on the 3rd try...boy did it feel good to hear her come back to life....One thing I noticed is that at an idle with the signals on , my voltmeter was reading higher than it normally did (before I only had one green light on and at idle it would flicker with the signal on)....my battery is the original 05 that came with the bike...gonna put a new one on the parts list and install it before the begining of the riding season....best to be safe than sorry....I have to go over everything before the season begins and plan to swap out all the fluids including the brake and radiator fluids...I will put on new brakes whether they need to be changed or not (yes I'm anal about that) ...each spring I also replace the tires...front and back, but this year I'm going to leave the front on and ride on the rear for a couple thousand more miles...plenty of tread, just flattening out...(must be my fat arse doing that)...I run the 404's whitewalls and have had pretty good luck with them...wanted to change to the elite seres, but really like the white wall look....well,I am really hoping that its an early spring . Like the rest of you northerners , I'm going a little batty this winter...winters never bothered me before...must be an age thing....Thank God for you guys and gals to keep me sane....
  14. Oh well Right in the middle of one of the nicest weather fall seasons I can remember, my venture just decided that it is time to go to bed for the winter. Getting ready to leave work, in a dark empty secluded parking lot behind the plant I hit the start button and got a god awful clunk instead of a start. Tried the starter again and got another heavy clunk but at least this time it grabbed and started. whew. So I rode the 1 hour home all the while worrying and trying to figure out what was wrong with my baby. As soon as I got home I came on here and searched for starter clunk and low and behold was thread after thread describing my problem to a T. So now the scoot has gone night night for the winter, till spring when I can get to work on installing the new starter clutch And of course while I have it apart I need to look at the clutch to see why it has started slipping at full throttle. Maybe I'll have to round up some vittles for the grill and see if help shows up. Oh my poor baby.....
  15. i did a search, but i didn't find the information i was looking for, specifically, does anyone have an idea of how many watts at what rpms the stock stator puts out for the mk2s? anyone have any experence with any of the aftermarket "higher output" stators? it's winter and i need something to do, so of course i'm looking at farkles!
  16. Just in case I have not mentioned it in the past; I HATE WINTER! And snow and ice and freezing cold and everything to do with winter. I hope I have made myself clear. OH YA I HATE WINTER A LOT! :crying:
  17. I was sitting here thinking about the long hard winter and all the things I had planned to do to my bike to keep me busy. Well I made a list and posted it below. Well here is my list....... where is yours? WINTER VENTURE PROJECT Speed bleeders (4) front brakes, rear brakes, and clutch [*]Change brake fluid in front and rear brakes [*]Reflectors add on to saddle bag guards [*]Knee wind deflectors (from BuddyRich) on lower leg fairings [*]LED lights to illuminate wording in license plate (RED) [*]LED light under tank (BLUE) [*]LED taillight from Strobes& More 21 pattern flashing LEDs (RED) [*]Chrome accent strip on top of saddle bag lid [*]Paint (black) clear wind deflectors on fairing [*]Dress up right and left hand air boxes [*]Oil rear shock with fork oil to stop squeaking [*]Add HD hooded visors to passing lights [*]Spark plugs [*]change oil and filter
  18. in Hanover, MD. At least it will be home for the next 60 to 90 days or so. Didn't bring the bike as it seems I'll be here thru most of the winter months, but you guys in this area please include me in what ever is going on. I can always "cage it:95:."
  19. How's that first gen garage a coming? You got a stall for each one? I heard they was a slow 86 close buy looking for a home. I bought a 6 ft rear blade for the tractor. Take care of the snow this winter. I'm taking Easter week off. Going down to the camp and landscape a spot and road for a scoot shed.
  20. I am in Arkansas and looking for a warmer winter . How warm is your winter ? Now... I have lived in Chicago (born there). New Hampshire, Florida, Washington state and Guam so I know about these places. I will being living in a 37 foot toy hauler 5th wheel in a park . cb
  21. Been getting a lot of noise coming from top of engine and a vibration in the bike so I decided to call the bike shop to price a valve adjustment, I almost dropped the phone when he said $550. Looks like I will be getting a repair book and trying it myself over the winter! Any recommendations on a repair manual? Never been into a bike that far but if i have any problems I know where to go to get the answers.... Thanks, Dale
  22. I have the Barons risers on my 07RSV. Love them but throttle doesn't return when in right turn to lock. I plan on having my fairing and tank off this Winter so that would be the time to reroute the throttle cable. My question is which way to reroute and any tricks or problems. Thanks in advance.
  23. Ok......winter is starting to set in already and the riding season is coming to an end for some of us. It's time to find other things to keep our minds entertained during the off season that we dread so much. What to do when we can't ride? Something exciting, something stimulating, something that will give you a rush when sitting inside during the cold an snowbound time that takes away our most basic pleasure. Well......I found something. I think it may work for me. After being on this site for a couple of years I do honestly beleive some of you may already be familiar with this method. (rather court ordered or self administered.....I won't ask) After wandering the web last night looking for a winter distraction I found this listing and it's not too expensive, no real high upkeep costs and there may even be ways to use it during the riding season.....such as keeping your passenger awake and attentive on a long tour ride. So with no further ado allow me to introduce my answer to being bored to death. http://www.agassiztrading.com/museum/electro-shock-b.htm
  24. It seems that a group of fellow VR members from Texas have seen fit to make me an honorary citizen of Texas. Now I not only have the key to the city of Athens TX, I also have an official Texas Passport. It came in the mail today. Guess this means they'll let me back whenever I want. Well that sure can't happen soon enough to suit me. Hope to make it back this winter for sure. Thanks Tom, Debbie and all the other fellow Texan VR members. See y'all soon eh!......now where did I put my 10 gallon hat???
  25. Ok all you electrical genius types. I am somewhat stumped here. I know how to test the stator using the AC voltage test and it seems to be fine. Is there a way to test the Regulator? I have an 84 VR. Is there a way to retrofit a MKII regulator? The plug has more wires in it than the 84. When I parked the bike for the winter it was charging fine. Over the winter I added a couple of relays (for horn and highway lights). A chrome bumper converted to LEDs and a 12v receptacle. So I'm wondering if I did something wrong but was very carefull with these installations. I soldered and heat shrank every joint etc. Is there a way to test for excessive drain while running? I had a "rebuilt Stator" that I got off eBay a couple of years ago and installed it. That didn't solve the problem. But it may not be a good one either. Any ideas?? Wayne
