  1. I noticed on Flea Bay that "VentureriderXVZ" was selling a 2001 wing. From the description he must have gone to Ark for the Rally but I don't recognize the handle. I am looking for a wing to go with the first gen. I am still a little weak with the top heavy Venture with the boss on back and we rode a wing and felt a lot better. I will keep my blackcherry baby for one up riding though.
  2. ive spent so much time working on this rally, i forgot that i have to get ready to go. what a rat race. old last minute me. been working on bikes all week. still don't know which one i'm bringing. since it's a yamaha meet i guess i will bring a yammer. if the pinstiper shows up i want to have my wing done. such a delema. then at the same time i am trying to get ready for vogel. sure is fun. nap time
  3. just got done putting the hitch on my wing. now i have two bikes with hitches and still no wire looms. they are on order but not on the way. may have to look locally. i think the worst part is out of the way.
  4. took the new trailer i built for a test run today, behind my v- star. you must remember i am covering unknown ground here. amazingly, i could'nt tell it was back there. i put a few items in it for weight, but it did'nt seem to effect the bikes power. only took it up to 55 mph. planning on a long run tomorrow and 75 miles per hour. i have a hitch for my wing but haven't installed it yet. i don't like the idea of pulling a trailer, but i want to go camping. it sure does look stupid back there and i feel like a real ass. who cares you only go aroumd once.
  5. i am trying to get a pinstriper to be at the 09 rally for a couple of days. is there anyone who is attending that would want to get some striping done on their bike. also anyone want to get a tattoo while they are there. if so i may pursue that. the main thing is the striper. i would like to get some on my wing. bill
  6. anyone come up with a decent replacement for the nuts that fasten the driver's seat? I tried wing nuts but no better and 1 vibrated off.
  7. Peg & I took the 01 Wing out for a ride tonight and I have to say these Progressive Springs in the front are awful hard, and makes the ride very uncomfortable. I noticed the front end was hard when I test drove the Wing, it was rough and figured I get used to the stiff ride, But I have to say this is enough for me. I did the bounce test with the front brakes applied and I could hardly get the forks to move down any and I weight 230lbs, man these things are stiff. As for going down the road I can see them move some over rough roads but not much and the front end feels hard as a rock, you can feel every crack in the road. Also did a power brake they go down maybe 1 - 1 1/2" does this sound like their way to stiff? I never had progressives before and I'm going in the forks and see what I can do to get a smoother ride. I just may go back to stock set up I loved the ride the 08 put out. I did notice that the 01 Wing with progressive springs handle the roads better in MO & AR than the 08 Wing did . But I rather have the smoother ride affect.... Has anyone did any changes to the Progressive Springs to get a smoother ride? Buddy
  8. I know some of you ride Wings but I think you "came" from a Venture so I know you aren't like this but it seems lately the Wing riders I come across seem to have a bit of a "chip on their shoulder". For instance, one of the security guards in the building where I work (a very nice lady but...) rides on her hubby's wing with him and have been riding a wing for many years ... anyway, she sure seems to get "snobbish" whenever I start talking motorcycles with her. "Oh, we tried a Yamaha once...it was terrible!" .. "We never ride in groups!" (yet she showed me pics of a few folks they ride with a lot) ... "oh no...we won't do the Ride for Dad charity run... we already gave to charity and there's too many Harley riders there" ... and so on, and so on... Maybe I'm reading it wrong but her tone, body language, and words are sure giving me those "snobby" vibes (btw, she's older 'n me and is about to celebrate her 45th wedding anniv ... good for them!) On top of that, she can't tell the difference between the 1500 style of Wing and the 1800 style. Showed me a pic of their "old" bike that they traded for a "new" one (pic of that too) and according to her, they traded an 1800 for a 1500 but you couldn't tell her that. (she was adamant that the old one is the new one...geeesh now I'm confused LOL) Well, I'm bored, tired, too warm, and anxious to see the work day end coz starting June 1st, I am off work for an entire month! yyeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh .... (maybe all the above is just my "chit")

    VR Vs GL

I have an '83 Royale. Miles: 24K, still need to rebuild brake master, probably need exhaust seals and a carb job. How does this bike compare to a '84 Honda GL1200?? Performance, mechanical, ballpark value? Get more detail on the wing later today. Looking at a sidecar and the wing has the mounting brackets installed whereas I would have to figure how to fabricate them for the VR.
  10. While I have been enjoying my new 2000 Wing for two days now, I have confirmed that my 1st gen is leaving tomorrow for good. It was my second 1st gen. and both were great bikes. This last one was an '87 Royale and it took me to Potato Creek in '05(?), Americade in '06 and Colorado in '07. I thoroughly enjoyed every one of those trips and smile when I remember them. That bike always ran strong, and still does. She a pretty machine and I will truly miss her. Having said that, I LOVE my Wing. It is a 2000 Aspencade. On my 1st gen I was on tip toes at the stop, on the Wing I can sit flatfooted at the stop. It has a significantly lower centre of gravity which you really notice when cornering. Where the 1st gen seemed to love leaning into the turn, the Wing needs to be thrown into the turn but then it rights itself easier. The Wing has tons of pickup and is very smooth. It has all the amenities one could ask for. Although the foot position on the Wing is probably very close to that of the 1st gen, the fairing on the Wing is not as close to my knees, making it feel roomier. Anyway, I am looking forward to taking it for a nice run to Freebird's maintenance day and really looking forward to seeing some of you people again. Here are few pics of the new Wing.
  11. Sunday, April 5, 09, I joined a couple on a yellow Gold Wing (long-time friends, going back 30 years), on a tour of the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. The roads were outstanding; once off I-81, US 340, and US 11, those backroads are terrific, empty, and quite scenic. Late March/early April is a good time to get out and ride the mid-Atlantic States, weather permitting (and it can be quite changeable around here). On the way back, we took the Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, north to Front Royal, the northern end of the Drive. Below is a picture of me and my Venture, taken by my friend Dan from his Gold Wing. He pointed the camera backward and got this shot, as well as many others. http://i570.photobucket.com/albums/ss146/gssuzukiguy/Nick_April5_04-Copy.jpg?t=1239456081
  12. Had a buddy sale a 2000 honda 1100 tourer yesterday, as part of the deal he took a 1978 wing as trade. the radio does not work, no rear breaks, 75,000 miles, and a few other probems. He wanted to know if I would be interested in it for a few hundred bucks. Don't know much about the old wing, so give me your thoughts:think:. Should I consider it, or just stay focused on getting back into a RSV. Oh my the way I didn't mention I have a 77 kz1000 in the garage with only 11,000 mile on it that just needs a battery.
  13. well got the heat on in the garage, and going to add some more lights to the wing. now if i can just remember where i parked my walker, so i can get out there. linda probably hid it again. she thinks that will keep me from runnin around on her.
  14. Do to recent events, I'm having to sell my baby:crying: I'm Fighting Pneumonia again, My Dad had another Heart attack the other day . We had Hail damage couple weeks ago did over 15,000 in damage to both houses and Peg Monte Carlo. So Peg said I need to quit Walmart and spend more time with my family and stay with one job due to my health having not been the best in the world guess only getting 3hrs asleep at night maybe a factor too. Plus my doctor told me to slow down!! So if I do I will have to sell my baby. Peg is all torn up for having to sell the Wing but she rather have me around for some time to come. So I have put my baby on E-Bay #300298498634 for sale if you know someone looking for a good Gold Wing. Everybody that knows me & my Wing Knows I spoil it rotten. The guys were picking on Snarly Bill & me when we were cleaning our Gold Wings (twins)after a ride in a rain storm in Eureka Springs last Sept 2008. Since I'll be quiting Walmart I will have more time to ride to M&E - Maintenance day and other get together on my 83 Venture. Buddy
  15. I have a friend who lost his leg in a mc accident. After one year plus his uncle gave him his 82 Gold Wing. He tried riding it some, but the fear overcame him. He asked me if I wanted it (I used to own one) and I am trying to come up with a fair price. It is very clean and the red paint is good. I will have to find out the mileage but it appears mechanically sound. I want to be fair with him, but I don't want to overpay either. Let me know if you have any thoughts!

    Opinions please..

Hello...I am new to this board, but not motorcycling. I have been on or around scoots since 1959, and have one of about everything. I currently ride a 2006 GL1800 Gold wing, but I am thinking of trading off to a 2008/2009 Venture. The wing is a fine bike in it's own right, but really getting too big and heavy for me. I don't really need the amount of power it develops either. Those of you who have the Venture....what do you like best about it. Any problems unique to the bike?( like the Goldwing cracked frames) Are parts avilable most of the time? Does it burn regular fuel? I ride one up, but I am 6'3" and a biskit short of 300 lbs. Is the Venture a comfy ride for a guy my size? How do you like the seat? Can you getr a backrest? Are there a lot of "add ons" available for it. How do you like the sound system?? Is power adequate for most riding? How is doing your own maintenence??? hard/easy If you could change one thing, what would it be?? I know a lot of this is on the web etc, but I thought I would save some time and just ask those who would best know...the owners. Thanks for reading and taking the time to answer.........
  17. just saw kit carson post on the wing site. thought someone said he left the country. it was him. lives in n.carolina and is a self employed plumber, and sounded like one of his educated posts. he has an 08 wing. bill
  18. well i got my wing on the road this morning with my totally reworked racetech forks. what a difference in the ride. disabled the antidive with the mod and it really handles the washboard bumps now. really made a noticable difference. did anyone ever wonder why we can buy a new car and don't have to buy seats, modify suspension so it rides and handles right, change the steering wheel so it's more comfortable, etc. if any one should be able to build a perfect bike it ought to be the japenese. please don't let this go political. bill
  19. well i got the race tech mod done on my wing forks, and they are back on the bike. what a job. learned a whole lot about front suspension and dampening that i never new. all i have left to do is put the wheel on, and the plastic. next comes the progressive rear suspension mod. thats way down the road. got no complaints on the oem rear suspension. can't wait to hit the twisties. maybe next weekend. bill
  20. finally decided to tie into the suspension on my wing. getting everything ready for a major job. got to pull the whole front end off to install the springs and modify the forks for the racetech gold valve. put it off as long as i could. just hate to lay one of my bikes up mostly on a good riding weekend. the plastic removal is the hardest part. not looking forward to that. wish me luck. bill:2133:
  21. getting ready to put a complete racetech suspension upgrade on my gold wing. been looking for all kinds of excuses to delay the job, last one being the st. jude ride. now i have run out of excuses, got the kit, all the parts i need, and the time so the front end is coming off. this is a major job on a wing cuz ya can't even see the front forks much less take them off. wish me luck. surely i can pull this off by spring. actually it should'nt take more than a weekend. bill
  22. been noticing alot of new folks posting on here. thats great. hope my previous post helped get a few off the fence. keep coming folks, throw in your 2 cents worth. thats what this site is all about commaraderie, and friendship. we don't care what you ride as long as you like bikes. if you need tech info we can help on most any brand. if you need help on the road there is always a venture rider close by. if you need moral support we have that to. best site and people on the net. i ride a wing and can't find a wing site anywhere with the caring people we have here. so all these folks unfortionately have to put up with me. i do have a couple of yammers where no one can see them.lol. we want to here from you. and we want you to come to our 2009 international rally at the hub in ar. what a sneaky way to plug a meet. really we want everyone there, and to participate on here. snarley bill :clap2::clap2:
  23. Can't remember if I posted this here already but if I did I apologize for the repeat. First weekend of September the weather was right and I was feeling pretty good since my quadruple bypass so I decided to take my first multi day ride with the new Wing. Road up to Montgomery and spent the night. Next morning I headed south on Hwy 26, a really nice road that I had driven back in the Spring with the bus. Got down to a town called Union Springs and as I was going through the main intersection of this small town a lady ran the red light and broad-sided me on the right. Luckily she wasn't going very fast; unfortunately she was going fast enough to break both my tibia and fiblia and dislocate my ankle. Needless to say my beautiful new Wing was torn up. I was taken to Montgomery for surgery, and long story short, I have been in a cast since. Doc says two more weeks, then we'll see. Me being a diabetic he's being very cautious with me. After a long talk with the insurance company I convinced them to total the Wing. Repair estimate was $14,000. I have received my money for the bike but purchasing another is NOT in my immediate future. After two accidents in less than a year, even though neither was my fault I am calling it quits as far as riding is concerned. I've lost two beautiful machines and my body hasn't healed/been corrected completely from the first accident. This problem really scares me and I am praying that all will heal properly. I have already replaced the bike....with a 2004 Chevy SSR. It only has a little over 15k and is absolutely immaculate. It's a convertible, which I wanted, and also a hardtop. Unfortunately I cannot drive yet and it's killing me to see it sitting in the garage. But hopefully, only 2 more weeks. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thanks to all here, especially those fine people that I have had the privelege to meet through this site. I haven't been able to attend the ride-ins and meets that I wanted to but am hoping that I can in the future. Although I am not riding now I hope you all will allow me to stay around the site. If not I understand. I still love motorcycling and would give almost anything to get on another. But I need time to heal from ALL the stuff I've had in the past year. So to all I say please ride safe. And watch out for Dodge SUVs. !!!!!!!!
  24. I have seen more 1st and 2nd Gen Ventures around the Branson area in the last 3 days than in 3 years in Dallas. I'll bet a few were headed to ES. There was a silver 2nd gen running with a maroon Wing - Buddy? Saw some more in Branson while most were on the highway (65). Anybody we know?
  25. Hey all, first time poster, glad to be here.We were discussing the Wing a bit on an all brand board and a poster mentioned the venerable Venture being sorta tossed aside and not given it's due so here I am to try to find some info. I ride an '80 1100 Yamaha.. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t37/yamaha_28/6-31-08049-1.jpg So I am fact finding actually...did Yamaha fail in it's marketing and advertising of the Venture as a good road bike or was the Wing that much better? Yamaha back in'83 or so sent me a mailing with a US road map, literature and a small square record with the song..Don't Follow Anyone....So what I am looking for is how are the early bikes holding up?Had this bike been on the sales floor in '80....possibly that would be what I would be riding now..........I HAVE not been thru this site so my post might be redundant...if so please set me straight........ Bill
