  1. I am need of some help. I have finally got my parts but I am having problems putting my windshield back on. The book don't show how to put it back on. I don't even know if I have all the parts. I have two brackets with rubber on one end and then 2 bolt holes on the other that has what I would call guide pins that the bolts go through. It looks to me like they go down at the bottom in front but I don't know if the rubber goes up or down. Then I cant figure out how to bolt the rest of it up. I can see 2 bolt holes up at the top by the mirrors but I don't know if there is supposed to be a bracket that goes between the windshield and the frame. Next I have a bracket left over that I don't know where goes. Mine is green and looks kind of like a butterfly. There is four bolt holes one on each corner and then 2 bolts that look to be pressed in coming up through the middle. The old one has plastic broken off still attached like it would go to a fender or something like that.
  2. I am looking for a windshield bag for a 07 tour deluxe? Does anyone have one that they are willing to sell? Looking to put and amp in it for some muisc. Thanks in advance.
  3. This afternoon, my wife and I were riding at approximately 50 mph in the Ocala, FL National Forest when I saw the windshield of my '01 RSV quickly leaving the bike. I was able to tuck my chin and the windshield struck my shoulders and helmet driving my head into my wife's face. Thankfully, she has a full face shield that doesn't flip up. I grabbed for her leg as if I was going to keep her from falling (lol) and we pulled over. After confirming we were OK, we turned around and found the destroyed windshield. The attachment points looked OK. We returned home and I got on this site and found that many bikes have had cracking on the attachment tabs. Thinking that was it, I took off the chrome piece and the tabs look brand new. I guess the 6 screws could have been loose. I bought this bike used last year and have put on about 3,000 miles and the fairing has not been apart that I know of. Any thoughts on how this could have happened and where to buy a replacement w/s, Thanks in advance.
  4. The only thing I do not like about my new (to me) 2006 RSTD is the very high windshield. I have always set my shields up so my line of sight is about 2 inches above the plexiglass for an undistorted view. This windshield seems about 5 inches too high for my 5 foot 9 inch frame. Have any of you folks cut down the stock shield? I also found out Yamaha makes a direct replacement unit that is 7 inches shorter....anybody have any experiance with the shorter shield?

    Lights On Windshield

A friend of mine that has a HD, I hate to admit that... He has a chrome strip like on the Ventures at the windshield and there are LED lights that are built in does anyone know if something like that can be purchase for a Venture... I did not get a picture of them....
  6. I talked to the owner, John, at F4 about getting a new windshield on my RSV. I told him I wanted a vent and he said the standard answer is no, but since he's the owner maybe. Well, he checked out the shield and said he could get the Goldwing vent installed. I know there was discussion on this before, the lack of a vent was a deciding point for many. I'ts the same height as stock but 2 in. wider per side. The Lexan sounds like a superior product and for $30 more than comparable Clearview shield, I think I'll go for it.
  7. FYI- found this today. I know there are some of you that like short windshields. seems like a great price. Yamaha Royal Star Venture Shorty Windshield 10" Clear http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Shorty-Windshield-10-Clear_W0QQitemZ220583165619QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item335bc7feb3 If the link does not work. Item Number 220583165619 Good Luck.
  8. Need som help finding some toys for the scoot.....been searching the site ,can't find the posts....someone posted they bought harley windshield pouches for their 2nd gen and they just stay in place by sliding in behind the windshield....harley has 2 such pouches...one with an even TAIL for 59.99 and one with a LONGER TAIL in the middle for 99.00...which one is it that works on the 2nd gen...? .....................2nd. question....who is the member who sells the light bar entensions...? I'm tired of removing my extra running lights every time I need to remove my faring....... 3rd question....hand pump for the shocks and forks...where can I order one from???
  9. Does anybody have the stock quick release windshield that would fit a 2006 tour deluxe? I bought mine used and it was missing. Thanks, Brian
  10. I just ordered a Clearview XXL clear w/vent for '00 RSV. I looked on another post that showed how to remove windshield. Seems pretty straight forward. I was just wondering if its acually as easy as it looks. Thanks, can't wait to get the new shield.
  11. Just ordered a Clearview XL, tinted windshield with vents. After seeing all the Ventures with this shield on at the last MD I just had to take the plunge. And they are giving a 10% discount on new shield orders.
  12. I've got a Garmin nuvi 255w gps. I have the ball mount for use in the car. What I need is a handle bar mount for my RSV. Can't find any thing at garmin.com. Where should I be looking for a mount? I did stick it to the windshield with the suction cup, but it fell off at hwy speeds and scared the s--t out of me. I grabed it before it fell off the tank and gave it to the wife..
  13. I have a clearview windshield with a vent. The vent has lost steel ball that adjusts the vent open and close, the spring is still there. Has anyone replaced the steel ball? Need to know size and where to get one. Thanks
  14. I recently pulled the chrome trim off the fairing and found that the plastic around 4 of the 6 windshield mounting holes was cracked completely through. I emailed my dealer photos and he said to bring it in and they'll replace the fairing and anything else related to the problem. Off to the dealer tomorrow. Anyone else had this problem? Dennis
  15. SEEING IN THE RAIN I have used this many times and it works well. As a young patrolman, one night it was raining so hard you couldn't make out the front of the car I was driving. I was riding with an Old Salt 35 yrs. ago and he suggested I put on my sunglasses. WHOW! All of the sudden the visibilty in front of my windshield was perfectly clear. Almost as if there was no rain. You can see the rain bouncing off the road, it even works with the spray or kickup from semi's and cars. You will see the drops of rain on the windshield but NOT the sheet of rain falling. I have worn my sunglasses even at night to see in the rain and disperse the blinding headlights of people that drive in the rain with their brights on. It works, but you do loose some visibility. Ever since being told, I've always carried dark glasses when I travel, now I use a pair of flip-ups. Any dark glasses will work, just try it. REMEMBER DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH SUNGLASSES IS AGAINST THE LAW IN MOST STATES, BUT THIS MAY SAVE YOU FROM PULLING OVER AND GETTING HIT BY SOMEONE ELSE THAT CAN NOT SEE IN THE RAIN UNTIL YOU GET TO A SAFE PLACE TO STOP. REMEMBER TO NEVER RIDE IN THE RAIN USING YOUR CRUISE CONTROL MC OR CAGE. Pass this on to all your friends and family, IT SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN DRIVER'S ED CLASSES.
  16. Yesterday my bike was knocked off the centerstand. I've never had this happen before. I guess the contributing factor was the 6.5 earthquake that did it. A true act of God. It was a really hard shaker and the bike got the worst of it. Now I need a new windshield and trim. Here is the footage I shot for ABC lastnight. 17. Well. I will reserve the details for now as I don't feel like typing it all out but the important parts are the passenger was sleeping and covered with a blanket upon impact so other than some minor blistering from the glass spray that occurred, we are both fine. Cannot get a windshield installed until Monday, at the earliest. Thanks to the local PD and FD for being very VERY helpful in all of this. I guess a little professional courtesy goes a long way... I'll update more info later, but I need to go eat and relax a little. As of right now I will be staying at a local hotel and am in the process of trying to setup a rental car until I can get a replacement windshield, etc. (Unfortunately since I am under 25 I will get nailed with the stupid underage fee too, but oh well). -- More to come. Rick M. EDIT: Here is a summary of what happend I was the driver of the 2005 Ford Escape at the time of the incident. S. bound I-69 Exit 26 (near freightliner dealership, just past off ramp but on overpass - etc. etc.) (~ 1500 hrs) After traffic cleared, I moved into left lane to overtake Dollar General Selmi-truck & trailer (unknown trailer plate number, tractor number, trailer number etc). Second vehicle moved in behind me, as I was passing the rear axels of the trailer I saw a chunk of, what I believe was ice, lift off of the top of the trailer (near the front most point of the trailer) appering to be the width of the trailer and at least roughly twice as long as it was wide (~8 ft x 16 ft) and tumble next to the trailer and collide with windshield of the 2005 Ford Escape that I was driving. When I observed the ice start to lift off of the truck I immediately moved as far left as I could safely do so and still maintain control of the vehicle and remain on the roadway. I was unable to reduce my speed due to the proximity of the vehicle behind me (make, model, driver, occupants unknown, and condition of that vehicle unknown). After the impact of the ice with the Escape and wen safe to do so, I proceeded to move into the right lane and on to the shoulder. After clearing the bridge I parked on the shoulder and proceeded to inspect the condition of the passenger. Anderson Fire department arrived on scene (~1510 hrs; within 10 minutes of parking on shoulder) in ambulance and continued examination of passenger. Anderson Police on scene within 5-10 minutes of Ambulance arrival. Officer took report. By ~1545 Escape was cleaned up enough and I proceeded to drive to Anderson Fire Department escorted by Ambulance, followed by APD vehicle and Fire Engine. Vehicle secured in Fire Station. Cleaned by myself and AFD while passenger proceeded to call insurance company and file claim. AFD assisted in attempting to schedule glass replacement same day. Were not able to secure a windshield replacement until Monday 11-Jan-2010. Etc.
  18. I'm in the market for a Travel Cover for my RSV and I'm giving serious thought to buying the Star travel cover (STR-4XYTR-CV-R1). If you have one, would you mind answering a couple of questions? 1) Are the soft (non-scratching) areas for the windshield and trunk areas? 2) Are there grommets at the bottom so that the cover can be secured? Thanks!
  19. I read the thread on windshield cleaners, but here is my problem: I have been using an aerosol cleaner with a wax in it for 4 years. Does a great job, but now the shield has what I thought was etching, but now seems to be a buildup of some sort. Anyone know what I can use to get that stuff off without ruining the w/s? I can't hardly see through it at night when oncoming headlights hit the shield.
  20. Does any one know of a place that sells shorty windshield for the venuter. BikerJohn
  21. As I scan the "watering hole", I keep seeing threads for things such as large and improved polished fork "wind" deflectors and keeping the "wind" off your knees deflectors and windshield squabbles on height to stop the "wind" and more! I just wonder, Whatever happened to the idea that on a motorcycle the whole experience is "to be in the wind" to smell the fresh air when you pass a pond or lake, to smell the fresh tilled fields and burning autumn leaves. Fresh cut hay and fields of clover are ever so pleasant. There's something to be said for the breeze on your skin,,,in your face.... It seems a shame to hide behind full face helmets a windshield, knee guards and fork deflectors all trussed up in designer "wind and water repellent" riding suits!,,,crap,,,if I wanted to be so isolated from the "wind" I guess I'd just as well cage it, but then,,,,I'd miss that unmistakable "sound" ! OH YEA I LOVE "THAT SOUND",,,,,,,,and,,,,,,,,,,"THE WIND" ,,,,, (It sings if you listen)! Renne:backinmyday:
  22. So I brought my RSV to the dealer for the broken windshield support (08 plenty of warranty left)... and they replace my inner and outer fairing under warranty... did a fine job. But I noticed that from lack of support and the windshield moving around, it had scratched the bottom edge of the windshield... and the chrome strip at the bottom of the windshield doesn't fit right. Sooo... I brought it back on a Saturday (45 minutes each way) and was told the warranty guy's not in today.. can you bring it back monday???? I politely explaind that would require me to take time off of work, and wasn't going to do that. so the tech left a note for the warranty guy. I just got off the phone w/him and he says " well the tech said there was a problem with the left side ( wich is crap, since the support was broken on both sides) and he has to wait to hear from YAMAHA to see if it will be covered, cause "that was a big claim.. over 1600 dollars"... is this how the program works??? I work at a Ford dealer, and WE determine if it'll be covered or not(to a point). Does this seem reasonable?? or should I start searching out another dealer to use.... Also , is there a phone number to get ahold of Yamaha if you're not satisfied with the service you recieve???
  23. For those of you that have replaced your tall(OEM) windshield with a shorter one, have you noticed any difference in the way the bike handles? By that I mean, does it reduce the buffeting effect? Can you tell a difference at high speed(in excess of 80 mph)? What type did you get to replace the OEM? Just your general thoughts. I'd like to know because I'm thinking of replacing mine in the near future.
  24. As long and as detailed as this forums is, has anyone on here ever figured out how to keep the top center of the RSV standard windshield from forming droplets of water early in the morning? It does this right in the area where you need to be looking through. This is more than just fogg. It's like dew drops. I like the tall windshield and don't want to cut it down so that's out of the question. At "around town" speeds it's about impossible to see through. Who's got the answer????
  25. I need to know which shield to get that will block more wind off the wife when we ride two up. All help appreciated.
