  1. I just finished cutting my stock windshield and it was way easier than I thought it would be. I bought my RSV about 2 weeks ago and picked it up at about 2000 and rode home in the dark. It really worried me not being able to see out of the windshield very well. I searched the forum and learned that I am not the only one concerned with this. I took about 3.5 inches off the shield and love the new look. I have yet to test ride yet but dont forsee any problems. I also got my windshield bags delivered today and if I must say I really like the look of them. I did notice that the windscreen coating peeled when I removed the masking tape after the cut job. I read the forums for solutions and tried duct tape as suggested but this became a pain. I went into wifes closet and found a lint roller. This worked like a charm I was very pleased but had to strip layers of tape from roller after every pass. I used about half the rollers tape but my wife will never know (SHHHH). I am also very please to announce that I am officailly a supporting member of this wonderful site. Thanks for all the great info. http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h444/vegastruckee/SAM_0628.jpg http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h444/vegastruckee/SAM_0632.jpg
  2. Trying out a new loctite product 249 tape. It is a serviceable loctite product. It has no mess just keep it out of the heat. Seems to work well
  3. I have some free time this weekend and want to take the tape deck out but leave the AUX jack for my mp3 player. I have looked all over and cant find the specific thread for tape deck removal. Can someone point me in the right direction please. Also I want to install a tach. I am looking at this one here http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_Sunpro-Super-Tach-II-2-5-8%22---Black-Face-&-Chrome-Bezel-Actron_16990020-P_N3342_P|GRP2032____ will that one work and how difficult is the install ( I am by no means a mechanic) LOL
  4. I just got this in an email. Pretty good story. Duct tape is our friend
  5. I recently purchased a 1993 VR. On the right hand side, part of the water coolant lines, I noticed a grayish tape around a joint. I took the gray tape off to get a better look at what it was covering. Is this tape normal? If so, I guess I'll need to know what kind of tape to put back on. If it's not normal, any thoughts on what I should to do fix what he was covering up. Thank you. file:///C:/Users/sean/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Temporary%20Internet%20Files/OLK3A13/IMAG0130.jpgI have attached a photo for explanation.
  6. ok does any one have a cable modem. there not useing. and could sell cheap? mine went out but i got it working but its held together with a prayer &duck tape its a old rca one heck if any one even has one of these laying around that wold be great.
  7. Love to listen to Books on Tape (cd) when traveling so I am looking for a CD player to mount to my RSTD. Looking for input here. I know most have switched to mp3's so maybe someone has one collecting dust they would like to part with? Also looking for idea's on how to mount it to the RSTD? I have an amplifier and speakers for my ipod so I could use some advice on how to put all that together? I'm envisioning switching between the two, when the mode strikes but audio is not my forte!
  8. About a week ago I saw this WOOT item that converts older VCR tapes into .mpg files on the computor. It'll also burn the file to a DVD compatable. And the price was $29.95. So since we have a lot of classic tapes, I said 'what the heck' and bought one. It's basically a VCP with a USB plug, and some pretty neat software. ION VCR 2 PC And it works!! The only problem I'm finding with it is it doesn't work very fast. I basically have to view and record the tape in real time, but I can still let it to it's thing in the background while surfing. I just got through converting Star Wars 3 tape series.
  9. My tape deck was faulty so I removed it. Now the radio won't work ! Do I have to have the tape deck installed for the radio to work ? Can I just bypass it if possible ? Jim O'D...........
  10. I guess after 11 years, what ever friction material holding the mirrors on my RSTC is starting to give up. I constantly have to readjust them. Short of super glue or duct tape has anyone come up with a way to tighten up the swivel joint between the back of the mirror and the mounting arm?

    New Pics

Here is my new Venture,I havent been able to take it for a good ride yet because of the rain. But tomorrow looks good! There are two pics showing the one small light I need on the bottom & the brake light plastic lens for the back I need.I have some tape on there just for now,If any one can tell me were to get these two items that would be great. Thanks Stan
  12. Lately, I have seen a couple 2nd Gens with the Fairing 'Whiskers' removed - I like the look. Are they just held on with double-sided tape? I already took the Yamaha label off the trunk, which came off okay, but the tape & glue were stubborn. I used a heat gun and WD-40. craigr
  13. I put XM/sirius radio on my RSV, went in fairing unpluged the wire going to the tape deck aux port, plugged up and ext set, placed the Sirius antenna on the trunk rack, its magnetic so it just grabs on. Mounted the receiver on the right side master cylinder. Works great, what ever I want to listen to, no tapes, no cd's, no batteries. no little box to keep up with. just music with no problems, $120 yearly. And yes it been in the rain several times, no problems. Gregg
  14. I am hooking up an Old Garmin StreetPilot III to my 2005 RSV. I read somewhere on the site to break open the The 5 pin din inside the fairing with the red tape on it. I have it hooked up and the Garmin Lady will announce through my headset only and not the speakers and the radio or CB will not mute when she talks. I figured out the red tape one is the intercom. Does the intercom normally mute the radio when you talk ? Can I get inbetween another set of 5 pin dins that will let me hear the Garmin Directions and mute the music or CB when she talks ? PS No one told me I have to be an octopus to get the light bar back on !
  15. Pulled my Air Box (again) to remove the defective ignition Module and relocater it, and decided to see how well my sliders were moving. Well, found the right front would only open halfway and seem to hit a stop. Took it apart this evening and found that the entire diaphragm and piston assembly had come apart!! It honestly looks like someone tried to replace a diaphragm and used packing tape to hold the washer for the rubber in place after prying it apart!! Found the tape on the spring! Luckily, I had a brand new diaphragm and puiston assembly I bought off ebay a couple of yearsw ago to have on hand. Also, not a single torx screw to be found on any of the carbs. Hmmm, wonder if it was the same brain child that wired my chin lights directly to the accessory line before the fuse...
  16. Hi does anyone have for sale or know where to get a cover for the tape deck on a 86 royale
  17. This for those of you that have removed the passenger arm rest rubber pads, to access the rear speakers or what have you. What have you used to put them back? The double sided tape I have as well as the local parts stores are too thick! I was considering black adhesive silicone. Any suggestions!!!
  18. I have read literally hundreds of posts extolling the magical Sea Foam product that seems to be second only to duct tape and Gorilla glue when it comes to curing problems. I have tape and glue, but dangit, no Sea Foam. WHERE O WHERE may I purchase this wonderful elixer? Will it also reveal the true color of my wife's hair? Because I was sure I married a blonde and now, I'm not so sure. HELP.
  19. I got the leather tank bra for Christmas and saw that the clip for the intercom will be in the way. Is it just double faced tape holding it on? I want to use the pouch on the bra to hold my I-pod.If it is tape any one know what is the best tape to replace it out of the way?
  20. My tape deck door will not stay closed anymore. Is this part of the deck or the faring? How hard is this going to be to fix? Or should I just glue it shut? Anyone have this problem before that can help would be great. I don't want to take it to my dealer.
  21. Thought some of you might be interested in this. Its posted at "thinkgeeks.com" Looks like a niceclean and portable MO3 solution for the Venture antiquated cassette ? http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/front/standalone_or_car_cassette_mp3_player.jpg http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/alt-image-zoom.gifZoom http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/alt-image-more.gifMore Images Will the cassette tape ever die? In between the beloved LP record and the now familiar CD, there was another music media format - the cassette tape. It was very popular during the 80's and one thing that definitely made it standout was that, unlike a LP, you could easily record onto a cassette tape. Before that your recording options were primarily limited to reel-to-reel tape machines, which were usually pretty large and sometimes not so friendly. Being able to record onto cassette tape also lead to the ever popular "mix tape" - which was usually a collection of kick ass songs you'd give to your wannabe girlfriend or someone else you were trying to impress. http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/other/standalone_or_car_cassette_mp3_player_embed.jpg This MP3 player is built into a standard cassette tape, letting you use it as either a uniquely old-school-style MP3 player, or with any car cassette or cassette player to play your music. You will have no problems listening to hours of your favorite songs via the built-in SD card slot, and you can easily change to different songs if you have multiple SD Cards. If you are into retro style looks but with a new technology upgrade, this is a MP3 player worth adding to your gear.
  22. I had a spare windshield in storage for a number of years. It was stored between two pieces of cardboard held together with scotch tape. Is there a easy way to clean the tape off the windshield? A few small strips are being stubborn.
  23. Hey, All. Mr. Holloween back again, Man its been like forever since I've been on here.Hope all are doing good.an enjoying the rides.Still got the 84 ven.an still lov'en it.But I'd like to patch in one of those MP3's.Problem is my cass. deck does not wock so I can't use one of those tape converters.Has anybody dove into the big white cable of wires that comes out of the deck ?Maybe I can splice into it ,instead of the cass. deck ??! Any ideas welcomed .The sound part works but does not move the tape. You put a tape in and it just makes a clicking noise like the gears are not messing all the way.It played real good but then it started that jumping back ,to side to side.So I thought I'd help it out ! Now it don't do nothing:doh:HUMMMMM. Does anybody have one for sale ??? Again ,hope all are having a safe summer. Dave& Theresa Where a dirty bike means a happy rider.
  24. Well, I called our Human Resource Department to ask about getting a copy of the video tape showing the truck hitting my bike and was told that I may not get a copy of it. I was told that since the incident happened in the city street and not on company property that they had no obligation to share the video tape with me and did not want to get involved. I would have to wait until the Director of Human Resources got back and ask him. During this conversation I told her that I had seen the tape and it was very obvious that the truck hit my bike. She demanded to know which person in Security allowed me to view the tape as she was going to take issue with them. It caught me so off guard that I did not know what to say. After a while I called the HR MGR back and got her voice mail and advised her that just so there would not be any surprises, I had received a call from the LEO at home yesterday evening and in my conversation, I advised him there was a video tape made and I had viewed it. So, she needed to know that it was now part of the police report on a hit and run investigation. I gave her my cell # if she had any more questions and as of this moment I have not heard from her. So the crap is already starting!! RandyA
