  1. I read this and thought of members in the Upper Regions this year! MIKE aka Uturn ******************************************************************* DIARY OF A SNOW SHOVELER December 8 - 6:00 PM It started to snow. The first snow of the season and the wife and I took our cocktails and sat for hours by the window watching the huge soft flakes drift down from heaven. It looked like a Grandma Moses Print. So romantic we felt like newlyweds again. I love snow! December 9 We woke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the whole world? Moving here was the best idea I've ever had! Shovelled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks. This afternoon the snowplough came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life! December 12 The sun has melted all our lovely snow.. Such a disappointment! My neighbour tells me not to worry- we'll definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful! Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end of winter, that I'll never want to see snow again. I don't think that's possible. Bob is such a nice man, I'm glad he's our neighbour. December 14 Snow, lovely snow! 8 inches last night. The temperature dropped to -20. The cold makes everything sparkle so. The wind took my breath away, but I warmed up by shovelling the driveway and sidewalks. This is the life! The snowplough came back this afternoon and buried everything again. I didn't realize I would have to do quite this much shovelling, but I'll certainly get back in shape this way. I wish I wouldn't huff and puff so. December 15 20 inches forecast. Sold my van and bought a 4x4 Blazer. Bought snow tires for the wife's car and 2 extra shovels. Stocked the freezer. The wife wants a wood stove in case the electricity goes out. I think that's silly. We aren't in Alaska , after all. December 16 Ice storm this morning. Fell on my ass on the ice in the driveway putting down salt. Hurt like hell. The wife laughed for an hour, which I think was very cruel. December 17 Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy to go anywhere. Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile the blankets on to stay warm. Nothing to do but stare at the wife and try not to irritate her. Guess I should've bought a wood stove, but won't admit it to her. God I hate it when she's right. I can't believe I'm freezing to death in my own living room. December 20 Electricity's back on, but had another 14 inches of the damn stuff last night. More shovelling! Took all day. The dam snowplough came by twice. Tried to find a neighbour kid to shovel, but they said they're too busy playing hockey. I think they're lying. Called the only hardware store around to see about buying a snow blower and they're out. Might have another shipment in March. I think they're lying. Bob says I have to shovel or the city will have it done and bill me. I think he's lying. December 22 Bob was right about a white Christmas because 13 more inches of the white crap fell today, and it's so cold, it probably won't melt till August. Took me 45 minutes to get all dressed up to go out to shovel and then I had to pee. By the time I got undressed, peed and dressed again, I was too tired to shovel. Tried to hire Bob who has a plough on his truck for the rest of the winter, but he says he's too busy. I think the butthole is lying. December 23 Only 2 inches of snow today. And it warmed up to 0. The wife wanted me to decorate the front of the house this morning. What is she, nuts?!! Why didn't she tell me to do that a month ago? She says she did but I think she's lying. December 24 6 inches - Snow packed so hard by snowplough, I broke the shovel. Thought I was having a heart attack. If I ever catch the son of a ***** who drives that snow plough, I'll drag him through the snow by his balls and beat him to death with my broken shovel. I know he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shovelling and then he comes down the street at a 100 miles an hour and throws snow all over where I've just been! Tonight the wife wanted me to sing Christmas carols with her and open our presents, but I was too busy watching for the damn snowplough. December 25 Merry fricking Christmas! 20 more inches of the damn slop tonight - Snowed in. The idea of shovelling makes my blood boil. God, I hate the snow! Then the snowplough driver came by asking for a donation and I hit him over the head with my shovel. The wife says I have a bad attitude. I think she's a fricking idiot. If I have to watch "It's A Wonderful Life" one more time, I'm going to stuff her into the microwave. December 26 Still snowed in. Why the hell did I ever move here? It was all HER idea. She's really getting on my nerves. December 27 Temperature dropped to -30 and the pipes froze; plumber came after 14 hours of waiting for him, he only charged me $1,400 to replace all my pipes. December 28 Warmed up to above -20. Still snowed in. My WIFE is driving me crazy!!! December 29 10 more inches. Bob says I have to shovel the roof or it could cave in. That's the silliest thing I ever heard. How dumb does he think I am? December 30 Roof caved in. I beat up the snow plough driver, and now he is suing me for a million dollars, not only the beating I gave him, but also for trying to shove the broken snow shovel up his BUTT. The wife went home to her mother. Nine more inches predicted. December 31 I set fire to what's left of the house. No more shovelling. January 8 Feel so good. I just love those little white pills they keep giving me. Why am I tied to the bed?
  2. Took the ol girl out today, "84 Venture" temps in low 30's this morning; 50's this afternoon on the way home. Felt so good, no ice just snow melt water on the roads, little gravel and sand, and lots of SALT slop plus the dirt road I life on was kind of sloppy. Going to be freezing tomorrow and for the next couple of weeks had to wash her good when I got home. 74 miles to work and home. Up state New York, snow still deep in places.
  3. Is it just me or is this whole winter being a PITA for riding. This morning, early, the driveway was finally almost cleared of snow and the road looked pretty good. Decided I'd take the little bike out for a while, checked the tires and went in to get ready to ride. Looked out and "surprise" it was snowing like heck. Now we've got an additional 4" or so and it's still going strong. (and the temps are supposed to be in the 50's by Sunday!!) I'm gettin' cabin fever! I know y'all in the frozen north are used to this (used to live in Mich and Ia myself) but come on, this is Dixie! I usually get to ride several time a month year round, but NOT this year...

  5. Bubber and his lovely Missus had spent their entire lives living in North Branch, MN, and Bubber was tired to the winter snow and cold weather. So, after much thought and discussion they decide to move south to Minneapolis. Well, they picked the wrong winter to move south. The other morning they are up having their morning coffee when the radio announces the emergency snow route advisement. All vehicles are to be parked on the even side of the street to allow the snow plows to clear the streets. Being the good citizen that he is, Bubber gets bundled up and goes out to park his car on the even side of the street. It snows all night, and the next morning the radio announces that all vehicles are to be parked on the odd side of the street. So, Bubber heads out and parks his car on the odd side of the street. A few days later, they are again listening to the radio when the announcer starts to tell folks which side of the street they need to park on. Unfortunately, the power goes out before the announcer can tell them which side of the street to park on. Now Bubber is really confused and asks the Missus what she thinks he should do. She thinks about this for a few minutes. Then she reaches over, pats Bubber on the hand and says, "Honey, why don't you just leave the car in the garage today?"
  6. These are a couple of pictures of the left over ice from the storm that went through a couple of days ago. It is where the snow built up on a deck railing, then later the ice formed over it. When it warmed up some today, the snow underneath melted first leaving these ice domes. They are very fragile, some collapsed when I walked on the deck. 7. Well, you folks in Texas are really going to put it to us this time...or so the weatherman says.....they have to blame somebody, right? They're guesstimating approximately 35 cm's in the next 24 hours.....well over a foot! How the heck is Wiarton Willie....Poughkeepsie Pete's cousin...ever going to see his shadow? This has been a real winter here in southern ontario....cold, cold, cold, more snow than the historical averages.....wow! I guess on the plus side...if it's coming from Texas....it's gonna be "warm" snow, right? gunk:doh:
  8. Here's one to keep you busy when not shoveling snow off the front porch. http://www.versuscountrybagamonsterbuck.com/
  9. Well, I sold the Mustang convertible and bought me a Jeep Wrangler. I have always wanted one and decided it would fullfill a lot of roles. Convertible, and 4x4 for the snow. So....Come on SNOW!
  10. With all of the snow here in GA and only 8 snow plows for the entire state, and me climbing the walls I decided to start tinkering with my bike. There have been a lot of threads out there about what to do with the tape deck so after reading many of them and taking a little from what everyone else has done, this is what I came up with. It came out pretty nice. Big enough to put cell phones, ipods, extra cords or whatever. Finally, a reason to open that door
  11. Just curious, as I get lots of strange comments from perfect strangers, as to why I am still riding my VR in the middle of winter. I try to ride everyday that is free of snow and ice so I was wondering who else is enjoying those nice brisk morning/evening rides?
  12. Messing around in the garage a few days ago and took some pics of my bike. Couldn't believe how the flash makes he flames show up even more. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/S7301175.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b303/elmicko2002/S7301176.jpg Ok, so I'm bragging a little, but I REALLY like my bike. Dang snow needs to go away!!
  13. Michigan - God's Country Aug 12 - Moved to Michigan. It is so beautiful here. The hills are so serene and beautiful. Can hardly wait to see snow cover them. God's country...I love it here. Oct 14 - Michigan is the most beautiful place. The leaves are turning all different colors, I love the shades of red and orange. I went for a ride through the beautiful country side and spotted some deer, they are so graceful certainly they are the most peaceful animals on earth. This must be paradise Michigan, I love it here. Nov 11 - Deer season will start soon. I can't imagine anyone wanting to kill such an elegant creature. The very symbol of peace and tranquillity. Hope it will snow soon...I love it here. Dec 2 - It snowed last night. Woke up to find everything blanketed in white, it looks like a post card. We went outside and cleaned the snow off of the steps and shoveled the driveway. We had a snowball fight, (I won) and when the snowplow came by, we had to shovel the driveway out again. What a beautiful place. Mother nature in perfect harmony... I love Michigan. Dec 12 - More snow last night. I love it. The snowplow did his trick again (that rascal). Winter wonderland... I love it here. Dec 19 - More snow last night. Couldn't get out of the driveway to get to work this time. I'm exhausted from shoveling. F-ing snowplow... Dec 22 - More of the white s____ fell last night. I've got blisters on my hands from all this f-ing shoveling. I think the snow plow man hides around the corner and waits till I'm done shoveling my driveway...a_ _ hole! Dec 25 - "White Christmas" my busted a$$! More friggin snow. If I ever get my hands on that son-of-a-b@#$% who drives that snow plow, I swear I'll castrate that dumb bastard. Don't know why they don't use more salt on the roads to melt this f@#$%^ ice. Dec 28 - More white s@#$ fell last night. Been inside since Christmas Day, except for shoveling out the driveway after "Snow Plow Harry" comes by, prick...g_ _-d_ _ _ car is behind a ton of snow. The weatherman said to expect another 10 inches of s@#$ tonight. Do you know how many shovels of snow 10 inches is? Jan 1 - Happy F@#$%^$ New Year. The weatherman was wrong (again.) We didn't get 10" last night, we got 34", stupid a_ _ weatherman anyway. At this rate it won't melt before the 4th of July. The snow plow got stuck up the road and the s@#$head had the balls to come to the door and asked to borrow my shovel. After I told him I've broken 6 shovels already, shoveling all the sh@# he pushed into my driveway, I broke the last one over his f@#$%$ head. Jan 4 - Finally got out of the house today. Went to the store to get food, on the way back a g@#d@#$ deer ran in front of me. I hit the bastard and tore my car all to hell. Did $3,000 in damages. Those f@#$%^$ beasts should be killed. Wish the hunters had killed all of them last November. May 3 - Took the car to the garage in town. Would you believe the thing rotted out from all the f@#$%^$ salt they keep dumping all over the road. Car looks like a piece of s@#$. May 10 - Moved back to Virginia, I can't imagine why anyone in their right f@#$%^$ mind would ever want to live in this g@#-forsaken place called Michigan. Please note, although no boardcode and smiley buttons are shown, they are still useable
  14. :Happy Birthday: :Happy Birthday: Hope you have a great day today. I'd say you should get a ride in but I'm not sure if the snow and ice have melted down there yet. Just remember spring will be here sometime. Margaret & Jeff
  15. Boy, someone did You people have more snow than usual, and snow where you don't normally get it -- and the east coast of Australia is getting hammered with rain and floods. Over here in the west we are dry and hot and fighting bush fires. Poor Queensland won't have much left if it don't stop raining!! Glad we moved back here.
  16. I just got off the phone with a friend living in North Dakota near the Canadian border. He said that since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is still falling. The temperature is dropping way below zero and the north wind is increasing to near gale force. His wife has done nothing but look through the kitchen window and just stare. He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in. Yuk Yuk!
  17. The weatherman's predictions came true! Schools and businesses were shutting down for today last night. Usually when they do that, it is a beautiful sunny day but not this time! It started snowing after midnight, then we had thunder and lightning and it started snowing more! Snow day! Snow day! Snow day! :happy65: Looks about 3 to 4 inches here!!! A great day to enjoy more of George's chili and my homemade cornbread!!! Be safe everyone! Bobbie
  18. Well here we go again. Winter storm in the SE for the second time this year. Why did I move away from Nebraska? Getting really hammered with 5" on my deck already and it is supposed to snow all day and then turn to freezing rain. I think I will hybernate. Pictures will follow!
  19. I just finished talking with my friend in Bozeman, Montana He said that since early this morning the snow has been waist high and is still falling.... His wife has done nothing but look through the kitchen window. He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in... :rotf:
  20. All our fellow So called Friends :rotfl:and Members ,a Happy , Healthy and Prosperous Year I started celebrating early here , One bottle will do it 9 Litre Bottle:dancefool: its 6C and the snow is melting And Four Paws Is out with her friends to YUK YUK's
  21. As it seems most of the continent has had more than enough snow to go around, I thought it might be a good idea to see if we can get folks to post their best Venture in the snow picture. OOPS!!!! that last one snuck by me...... Brian
  22. The near impossible happened Christmas day to many of us in the SE, and that meant a lot of snow (last snow on Christmas locally was 1947). I have no problem with it since I am originally from Nebraska, but the locals want to drive just as fast as in the summer heat. We have had lots of wrecks and injuries. I for one just stayed home Sunday.
  23. Some of you know Muffin went to CA with his aunt to help her move. Well then he flew to NY to my folks house and I rode up to meet him for Christmas. No big deal, till we leave. Headed out today at 6:30 am and got home by 7 PM. No snow till we were off of 1 in DE, then nothing but snow all the way home. Couldn't see the road in spots, we'd finally see something that resembles a line on the road and get excited. (scary when you aren't sure where the road is and where the ditch is)We actually drove on 64 in VA at 20 mph and at times that felt too fast. Was a bit scary, but it also looks really pretty here. Everything is covered in snow all the trees my front door all white. Of course it will be melting because by saturday it's gonna be up near 60 for our annual meet. All in all it was a great weekend even with the little bump of snow. (ok not so much a bump) Hope you all had a great Christmas and hope you don't have too much snow for the folks on the east coast. That wind is gonna be awful. I did get some nice pics I'll have to post a little later. Margaret
  24. Hi All Hope your your holiday is going well. Myself and christy had to work on christmas ( life in emegency services) so we are doing christmas today. We are trying to get my youngest daughters boy frend up from ga. Funny they get a inch of snow and go crazy at the airport. He is on his way just later than expected. It will still be a great day as I have taken a whole week off from work. Bull463:stickinouttounge:
