  1. Weather was 50 degrees, so I took the bike out for a WET ride. Everything going great and then my cruise went off all by it self and I could not get it on again. Shut it off turn it on, Nothing. Few miles further down the road as I kept pushing set, cancel, set, cancel, etc. I shifted my feet off the highway pegs and realized my heal had been resting slightly against the rear brake. Guess What. :whistling:Cruise works! What a relief thought I was going to have to tear into the switch or maybe replace it. Next time this happens, I think I check my feet first. Jay
  2. I stumbled across a chrome set of side covers in the J&P catolgue for $130 ... half the cost from the local gouger. Gonna be a late xmas present methinks, but I have yet to find a set of chrome rails for the saddlebags, other than from Yammie at $275. I've seen OEM's on Ebay, but with the shipping and the never knowing what the duty will be, I have not bothered. Has anyone else seen them from other manufacturers maybe? And does the set for the Royal Star (comes to a point at the front) fit the Venture too? Thanks and merry christmas all.
  3. I AM STILL LOOKING FOR CROME PEICE 99 ROYAL STAR VENTURE RIGHT SIDE BELOW GAS TANK TWO SCREWS IN IT ALSO GOES AROUND SCREW TO SET YOUR IDLE CAN ANY ONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET ONE I ASK ABOUT GETTING IT RECROME THAY SAY CHEAPER TO GET ANOUTHER ONE THANKS TOMTOM7:whistling:
  4. Anybody doing the motorcycle Escort for these folks when they roll through your area on the way to Arlington National Cemetery? They will be coming through my State and to date we have a well planned 3 day Escort set up for them. You do not have to be a member of the Patriot Guard in order to join in the Escort. http://www.wreaths-across-america.org/ Regards.....Boomer
  5. gents..... and ladies, where is the center of gravity point for lifting and changing out the 2 tires? and any precautions as to shimming, so that I do not damage anything. I still plan to "hang" it from the celing of the garage.....I have a chainfall set up, but plan to use that for extra security only......I don't want my baby to FALL...:no-no-no:............thanks in advance JOHN
  6. Need assistance from all members,,,,,, My friend and I are looking for a complete set of 1974 Kawasaki 900 mufflers in good condition
  7. I'm looking for a set tank badge for my RSV 2004 ,anybody here have an extra set or want to sale his ????????????
  8. I'm getting ready to mount a set of pegs I've had on a newer set of crash bars. Does anyone know a way to keep from buggering up the chrome from a previous position when first getting them setup and adjusted? And why is the chrome on the K pegs checking and flaking after only a few months of use? That's a little disappointing. They cost more than that.
  9. Looks familiar, but I just can't place them!
  10. Yes it's about a second gen... I just recently puchased my 2004 Midnight RSV. I was wonderering about the handling of the bike and that was answered in previous threads. To say the least I am getting a new set of avons tomorrow. My questions are: Is there a fix for the low speed wabble? I have notice a whine in the drive tran. is that normal? Thanks for all your responses.
  11. I've read a lot about the pros and cons of headsets and still can't decide whether to buy a set or not. Brenda and I have ridden my '06 RSV for almost 2 seasons without them and have gotten along alright but if they could help hear the radio better or for us to talk to each other, I'd buy a set. I currently wear a half helmet and am looking at an open face while Brenda already has an open face model. I've heard some people say that the intercom is noisy because it is always live. I guess I could buy Mic-Mutes for more $$ but is it really worth it? I see on EBay that you can buy stereo headsets for helmets that don't have a Microphone so that you can listen to the audio. These come with an 1/8" stereo jack. You can then buy the adapter that allows you to plug it into the headset plug on the bike. Anyone tried these? I don't want to spend the money on headsets only to find out that they don't work well at highway speeds or that there's other drawbacks. Any feedback (positive or negative) would be appreciated. Thanks; Rod.
  12. I am still very new to the Venture, have under 2000 miles on my '07 but I have a few questions. 1. Does everyones cruise control when set and you let go of the throttle doe sit doees it drop almost 5MPH before coming back up to speed? 2. I bought a set of passing lamps used that came with the spacer but still cannot get the fairing off without almost completely removing the passing lamp bar, any suggestions on that. 3. How many gallons should there be left when the fuel light comes on, I filled up the other day with the fuel light on and still had 1.9 gallons, 2 fuel bars on the gauge and the reserve ODO came up but I was not on reserve. Thanks in advance for you assistance. I love the bike and look to have it for a very long time, or at least til it's payed off, and they release an update to it that is much better.
  13. OK folks...I need some input here. I've seen several discussions on setting the float levels. I'm NOT much good when it comes to carbs. I can sync them and etc. but am always nervous about getting inside them. So yesterday, in my unending search to figure out my gas mileage problem, I decided to pull the carbs and check the float levels and etc. Several of you, including Cougar, Pegscraper and some others have done this and have reported that it's not a big job. WHATEVER...it took me about 10 hours to pull the carbs, set the floats and get it all back together. To make it worse, I'm now thinking that I may have done it wrong and need to pull them off again. The manual says that you set the floats at about .32 with the floats resting on but not compressing the needle valve. So, does that mean that with the carbs upside down that you lift the floats with your finger so that the tang is touching the needle and that is when you measure? Unfortunately, I set them with the carbs upside down and the floats at rest, not me lifting on them. I'm attaching a picture. You will see in the picture that the near side is laying way up in the housing. The far side I have adjusted and it is at about .32 with it just sitting there. I think I did it wrong but please tell me for sure. Here's the deal. Yesterday morning I check all four cylinders using my Colortune. At most all RPMS I had the nice Bunsen blue color as I should but had intermittent flashes of yellow. According to the color tune booklet, that is a sign of floats set too high. That is why I pulled them off. Finally got it all back together last night about 9:00 and fired it up. Now I have a definite backfire, pop, miss or something from the right side. Now I have not synced them yet and will do so but I really don't see where adjusting the floats would through the sync off. So.......HELP.
  14. Put a set of these tire chains on your scoot and you won't need to quit riding just because of snow. You have a set yet, Charlie? http://www.mv-motorrad.de/cosmoshop/lshop,showdetail,13240,e,1105803788-30287,,10107,,,.htm
  15. Just a quick question on which will provide better fit? I'm 5'10" and have a back problem and want the bars a little higher and back to my more natural arm length and back support position. I already have a set of Harley Bars (Don't ask) and I am wondering if they may be better or worse than the Flander set up I've read about here. Any feedback is welcome.
  16. Given that I've had help from the forum with my wrenching fiasco, I'm doing a little myself. I have a set of gutted stock cans (mufflers) that I took off and did the RK Stage IV mod. I like them and won't put the stocker's back on. If you've toyed with gutting your stock cans, you can try these for the cost of shipping. I got a set of the RK cans off the RKR forum for shipping which was about $20. They are a bit tarnished but if you want to see what it's like they are yours for the shipping.
  17. I'm looking to improve the radio sound on my 92 Venture, any suggestions on a good sounding set of speakers the will not break the bank?
  18. A few months back i ordered some parts from bikebandit.com no problems. one part was back-ordered but it is a 24 year old bike so no problems. I got it later. Next i ordered three helments. One for me and the wife' and a shortie for me for PGR (slow events) missions. Well the stuff came in and the shortie has krinkled and peeling clear coat. And i got a set of tires that belong to someone else. I finally got someone to e-mail me back after not finding a phone no. Their response so far is ... To be confused as to my problem (me or them one) It seems as they only answer e-mails when it suits them. They sent me a phone number that gives the message that my est. hold time will be 5 minutes at times and at other times it says 11 minutes after about 30 minutes you get a message to leave a message. Today, i dont get that message, i get a message saying that no one is available leave a message and some one will get right back to me. I have left my number 3 times since this morning. no one has called back. I have not been able to get anyone to connect when i try to use the on line customer service chat. (I must have pissed them off, huh?) I did look up the person in Va. that ordered the tires and he has chated with cust. service and they are sending him a new shippment. Meanwhile, they e-mailed me a set of Fed-Ex lables. one to forward the tires to the rightful owner and one to return the damaged helment. No contact since then. I have not shipped anything yet, fedex wants me to set up an account with them before they will set up a pick-up (thats odd) I'm not doing that. I cant contact anyone to let them know i need a pick up scheduled. I think I keep the helment and put a sticker over the bad paint. I can sell the tires for enough to cover the cost of the halment. I think i'm through with bikebandit.com:225:
  19. Jeff: Do you have to remove the left fairing just to get the carbs out??? While changing out the valve cover gasket on 'Bertha' I decided to go ahead and clean the carbs..Number 1 carb is running some of the time, backfires and cuts in and out. I have disconnected all cables except one, used a wood lever to pull the carb set out of the manifolds and I am stuck trying to get the 4 pack off the bike...Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks, Tommy from Cary

    New Mufflers

I just put a set of Wild Pig pipes on my RSTD yesterday and boy do they sound good. I tried the Road King muffs but they were just too mild. If anyone is looking for a set of aftermarkets check these out on Ebay. They were only $180 shipped.
  21. AS a result of the poll results regarding the date for the 2008 VentureRider International Rally being held in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada and last nights meeting, the date for this event has been set as July 7-10, 2008. That's Monday - Thursday. Sorry to those for whom those dates don't work....we chose the week that had the highest positive hits on the poll. There will be more details in the next few days regarding the location, nearby motels etc.
  22. Will 1987 rotors work on a 84 with original calipers? I have a warped rotor and may be able to get a set from an 87.
  23. I took my ignition out to let the local dealer rekey the lock. I got it back today and went to install it over lunch and got a big surprise the ignition no longer works. I figure I had to have screwed somthing up so I got some picts and am asking for help. Pict 1 is the contacts that the ignition is supposed to set up against. Pict 2 is the way "I Think" the washer/contact plate is supposed to go in. My issue is that the little pin that the arrow is pointing to looks like it is supposed to make contact with the inner set of contacts on pict 1 but the pin does not stick out far enough to make contact. What am I doing wrong:confused24: I am stuck. ANY insight would be helpful.
  24. I have an 84 and when you plug in the head set there is a high pitched whining noise through the head set, sometimes. Sometimes it is totally clean with music or cb coming through. Any ideas? Thx for any help you can give.
  25. I am new to this forum as well as the Venture itself. My 2003 does not have a set of driving/lights - just a single headlight. I was wondering if there was a "best" alternative for buying a set of lights and a bar that would be of high quality and that could be installed with no modifications. Appreciate any direction on this.
