  1. Went to the Gastown motorcycle show 'n Shine yesterday. Loads of amazing bikes there and so many people came out as the weather was hot. Sorry, no pics...forgot the camera at home. ENNYHOO ... Honda Canada was doing demo rides so Nina & I got to take a spin on a Wing. Now this was the second time I rode a newer Wing but the first time for Nina to ride. Most of the demo was in heavy city traffic but did get to see how it handled on the highway and in corners as well...even a tight 90 degree one at 3 times the posted limit (which was 20 km/h) and I think I dragged something on that one! Well, for those who have one, you know what I'm talkin about here. This bike is nothing short of a breeze to drive. It takes the corners effortlessly. It weaves thru heavy traffic on the freeway without even thinking about it. I looked where I wanted to go and it was if the scoot read my mind because in a flash, I was there. And the POWER!!! It's awesome! Slow speed balance is far superior to our RSMV ... even just coming to a stop ... I could practically come to a full stop and not even put my foot down... Oh yeah, and REVERSE sure was nice getting it back into the parking spot! The downside ... and I only have two. Nina found the seat too "recliner style" ... if that makes any sense. She prefers to sit up straighter but the seat seemed to force her to slouch. ... no biggie... we can fix that. In opposite, I found the seat caused me to sit up straighter ... but that is ok except the handlegrips were lower than I like ... again, no biggie... we can fix that. So, in as much as WE like our RSMV .... sometime before next summer it will most likely be replaced with a WING. See ya at that other "dark side".
  2. I recently had a post about seat beads and somebody suggested trying a gel pad from wal mart instead. I tried the beads and hate them, so I bought the 20 dollar pad. I just got back from sturgis. It is roughly a 350 mile trip one way for me. Since this is the first time I have traveled a good distance with it I was skeptical how long I would be comfy. Well I'll say this, my bike is no longer a 350-400 mile per day bike. I could easily double that now if i wanted. I could sit in the seat all day. So if anybody is having seat trouble (all you rstd'ers like me) give it a try, you might be surprised. 2 of my friends bought them too. 1 rides a vtx, and the other a wing. They guy on the vtx couldnt believe how much they help. The wing rider was comfy anyway, but even he noticed a difference.
  3. Every decent sports car has bucket seats...now bikes do too!
  4. Im a pretty good size guy and the wife and I are trading in our Suzuki VL1500 for a 1999 Royal Start Venture. One problem. I dont like the after market touring seat on it. My question is where can I find the OEM seat or at least see what it looked like before I buy one? Thanks for the warm welcome to the sire.
  5. Recently I bought locally, an 86 VR. The P.O. was trying to sell it to me, for about 1.5 yrs & it came with a Corbon seat w/ backrest in addition to the stock seat. I finally caved in, when during a call back home, a neighbour wanted me to pick up another Venture. This bike is for an Ontario trip next year, which I am to go with him on, from the wet coast. He has been looking after my place for the last 3 yrs, while I am in Wainwright. He is making this a "Bucket List" trip & don't want to do it, on an air cooled bike. So the work on it begins. Progressive fork springs Done CLASS controller solder job Done Ball studs for side covers Done SS Braided line kit Arrived Speed Bleeders Arrived Re-build masters & slave Parts shipped Console top pieces Parts shipped Exhaust gaskets Parts shipped Wheel bearings for as needed Parts shipped assorted grommets Parts shipped Tires Order later Deka Battery Order later I will be getting more into the work on it, after PIP.
  6. I'm stripping down my RSV and removed the trunk and the stock seat looks like I stole a pillow off the couch and stuck it on the back fender... I know some of you have tried the Corbin and don't like it or your passenger don't like it and have one sitting in your garage... I don't have a lot of money but I have some items for trade if anyone is interested... I would be willing to work a deal... 2006 Yamaha Pillowtop seat... Very Good condition Yamaha chrome rotor covers - Brand new Old Stock (These are discontinued and getting very hard to find if not impossible and went for $150 a piece... Caliper cover in photo not included) http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/images/STR-4NK15-10-00.jpg Show Chrome RS Caliper covers - Brand New (These are easily modified to fit a Venture... These go for $65 a piece) http://www.scootworks.com/swcart/shop/bbp/62-108l.jpg Kuryakyn Gold Wing Ring of Fire - Brand new (These are the ring of LED Lights that go around the rotor covers and stick on with double sided tape... The ones I have are amber lights around the outside and amber lights facing in to the wheels... I think these go for around $100 a piece) http://www.macsmotorcycle.com/acatalog/7391-sm.jpg Yamaha Chrome Billet Passenger Floorboards - Used in Very Good condition (these listed for like $200)http://accessories.yamaha-motor-europe.com/files/images/EU/STR4WM573001_HR.jpg I got some other stuff too... Who wants to make a deal?
  7. Anyone have the paint codes for a 2007 Galaxy Blue/Raven Venture? Sticker under the seat doesn't seem to match the fiche. TIA Duck
  8. Does anyone know for sure if the front seat (ultimate) will work with the stock rear on 05 and up. Also, has anyone mated a utopia backrest with a ultimate seat? If the two seats won't match, can you tell why? I know their website says, "no", but others have posted they think they will.
  9. I have a mustang seat (both front and back) on my 2008 RSTD. Now I'm kicking myself for not getting the back rest. I know Utopia makes one but I don't think they'll fit anything except the stock seat. Does anyone know if the Utopia will work with the Mustang seat? or where I can buy a drivers seat back rest to add on? I sure hate to spend another 3 or 4 hundred bucks to get the seat and the rest when all I need is the rest. bjstone
  10. after much deliberation and looking at my bank account i ordered a new seat from ultimate seats. best move i 've made in a while. we ride a 1997 rstd and the stock seat choices were terrible. this is the most comfortable seat i've found anywhere, the phone at the company was answered by a real person who was very helpful and courtious, and the seat arrived in 5 days. everything about the perchase was a positive experience. i would recommend this seat and this company very highly. ride safe and be cool, thumper1:clap2:
  11. After trying the Butler mod and a $350 rework of the stock seat and a new stock seat and still not satisfied I decided to try Mustang. I ordered the non-studded version with backrest for $670 delivered. They offer a 10 day return policy so I'll be able to try it out thoroughly before I keep it. They had 3 more in stock after my order. I should have it by next Tuesday and I'll provide a review after I've tried it out. Dennis
  12. A couple weeks back the neighbour who is a Used Equipment Manager at a Chev Dealer came home with a SS Camero. Had to take a look and he comes out and throws the keys to me and says take it for a ride. Was not saying no. Naugh-T and I took off for a little ride while he had supper. Sure is a nice looking car. When I got in I had to lower the seat to the lowest point and even then I was touching the roof and when I put the seat back to a comforatble spot there is NO room in the back seat. Never took the Traction control off but was able to hit a few times and man that thing goes and it stays straight. Anyway 30 minutes of fun and a few pictures was worth it. Brad
  13. Was thinking on adding something to my RSTD seat to give me a little help in the comfort department. Went on a 750 mile round trip ride last weekend, got a tad sore, and was thinking about beads. Not sure if the sheepskin would be better though. This topic has probly been gone over before, if so, sorry for bringing it up again. Sending the seat to Rick Butler would be the best solution, but will have to wait. Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
  14. Anyone out there with a Midnight drivers seat who is looking to have Rick Bulter do his seat mod let me know as I'll trade you even up. While the Mrs loves her seat mod Rick did to the passenger seat I've found that I really prefered the firmer original drivers seat. My bike has the studs on the seats so will require the same when trading. Thanks, Larry
  15. With only 4,000 Km on my Venture, I had battery issues which caused me to require bump starting if there was a hill or a couple of willing BC Ferry workers to push the beast, or a jump start, which requires taking off the driver seat. What a pain THAT is! Has anyone come up with an alternative to the awkward nuts that secure the seat? My dealer replaced the battery, so I may not need to remove the seat for a while, but it would be handy to have an alternative for any future needs. Thanks for any help.
  16. Hi; Just wanted to share my cure for a Hot Motorcycle Seat when you get on your bike to ride home. I learned about it from Goldwing Owners. Goldwing owners generally always use a 1/2 cover on their bikes when they stop in the summertime. Without a cover, the black bike seat will feel like it is on fire when you get on it after baking in the sun. A Goldwing Half cover fits great on a Venture (2nd Gen). I use a... Champion Honda Goldwing Half Cover Motorcycle Cover It can be found for about $30. Johnb
  17. I like the corbin dual touring seat in the classifieds for a RSV. I think we touched on it before making the RSV seat mount to a RSTD...will the RSV Corbin Dual Touring seat work on a RSTD?
  18. Friend of mine Bob (Mariner Fan) talked to me about taking my seat with him so Rick can do his magic on my seat. I e-mailed and sent PM's to Rick. Rick wanted to do a very limited # of seats so he and his wife could take time and enjoy MD. I completely missed some important info. in one of his pm's until I re-read it a few days later. I responded back to him and Rick agreed anyway to do my seat. Just wanting to let Rick know I really appreciate him taking extra time out from MD to also do my seat. I got my seat from Bob on Saturday and got in a 45-60 minute ride. So far so good. It will get a really good test ride when I head to Chattanooga TN in about 3 weeks.
  19. After all the time that the venture has been on the road why hasn,t any one come up with a harness for trailer plug in before now.... I looked behind the seat and there isn,t much room to hook up new wires and the tail light has wires all over..there got to be something out there Whistler:bang head:
  20. Evening all, I am looking for a pair of Venture passenger grab bars to put on my 08 RSTD. I am going to bolt the front of the grab bar on the fender bracket (just like on a Venture) and then fabricate something to hold them together behind the seat with a mount running to my rear seat bolt. I want to do this so I can add the Venture passenger arm rests that Diamond Accessories sells. We are headed to Deals Gap in July to run the Dragon and go to Star Days. I am trying to make my wife's ride a little more comfortable without putting on the entire Venture pack (too expensive). I have a Corbin seat which we both like so I don't want to replace it. I have tried Pinwall cycle but they don't have any. Any one got another source for used bike parts or maybe have a set on a shelf in their garage that they would want to sell?
  21. A friend of mine is looking for a Venture Pillow top PASSENGER Seat..... Contact me if you have one.....
  22. Just curious ... What is the biggest load anyone has put IN and ON their trunk (luggage rack). I am leaving tomorrow for a long trip (1 week to the Grand Canyon). I can put my ROLL BAG on the passenger seat (I'm riding solo), but the trunk is full too...Will I be OK. I am thinking maybe the roll bag is about 20 lbs and the trunk another 25-30lbs. Any experiences? Wally
  23. Yep...seat wobble and not front end wobble. Even though the seat is tightened up...I guess my fat A$$ still feels ever so slightly some movement and also some creaking. I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Also...do you think a hard rubber washer between the seat and the mount would both TIGHTEN up the seat and also alleviate the creaking? Any other suggestions (besides losing weight). I weigh about 220lbs.
  24. Just bought a beautiful Gen 2 2000 white/tan. Great shape and chromed out. Wanted more reliability than my Gen 1. Wanted to make sure I could get parts. Was quite shocked with the Gen 2. (The following is only my opinion after riding the Gen 2 400 miles yesterday. Not trying to upset anyone but I imagine there are some Gen 1 riders out there that wonder what they are missing) There are certain things I really like about the Gen 2. Foot positions-awesome Accessability to work on things Suspension- Maybe my Gen 1 just doesn't work right. Don't feel a bump on the Gen 2. Looks Cruise control No plastic ABS panels! Tank capacity. Love the 6 gallons. There are quite a few things that I think the Gen 1 is still better. Heat- The Gen 1 is more comfortable on hot days. Those side fairings really do something. Fairings- Protects better through the wind, moves better through the wind and less noise. Handles better at slow speeds. Tach, temp, time (Whats up with no clock on Gen 2. Doesn't make sense) Speed is hard to read. Granny guages on Gen 2. Hand position- Handlebar is adjustable on Gen 1 but not 2. Seems like at highway speeds I'm standing still on the Gen 1 it goes so easy. Lights- Back end and front end are much more visible. Seat- I think the seat is better on a Gen 1. Because of handlebar position I am way forward on the seat which makes me catch the heat coming up from the gap of the front of the seat and gas tank. Managing at slower speeds. Handling- I just have 400 miles on the Gen 2, but it seems like the Gen 1 handles better slow and fast. Hope I don't feel this way for long. Fit- I'm 6' 1". I think this bike is made for a guy who is 6'4". The handlebars don't come back far enough for the seat in my opinion. Center stand- Why no center stand on the Gen 2? I'm wobbling at parking lot speed on the Gen 2. Guess I will get used to it, but a weird feeling. Front end seems like I am moving through cement. Gen 1 just seems more fun to ride. In fairness I just got the Gen 2 yesterday and rode it 400 miles. I got it because of reliability. Thought I could get things fixed faster and better since parts were more available. I didn't realize how attached I was to the Gen 1. There is a certain pride in wrenching a 27 year bike and taking it a long way from home. Showing up at a gas station with a group of bikers and having them look over like they have never seen what your riding before. Unfortunately I can only have 1 bike. Don't have room. I bought the Gen 2 just because I wanted newer and more reliable I didn't care about better. I did expect to get the same though and not less and I do feel like the Gen 2 is "less" than the Gen 1 in too many ways. Seems like the Gen 2 sacrifices a lot of function to capture the Harley look. The only thing I know for sure is that I like and respect the Gen 1 a lot more today than I did a week ago. I've always cussed the plastic on the Gen 1. It frustrates me that things are too hard to get to. I'm going to be a Gen 2 rider for the coming years, but the grass is not much greener over here and there are some bare spots. The Gen 1 is a great machine. The feeling I have riding a bike that I have somewhat restored along with the function of the bike seems to have given me a thrill that was greater than what I bought. I know I'm going to have to sell my Gen 1 coming up soon, but I will definitely have some remorse with it.
  25. For those deciding on a drivers backrest. I recently purchased and installed a Bakup backrest. The installation is simple, however, an extra set of hands is helpful to avoid possibly scratching something. The pad matches the stock passenger pad closely and the overall look is clean. Seat adjustment is easy, no tools needed. The backrest is a little pricey, but the quality and look is good. To me, the stock seat is comfortable enough, all it needed was a backrest. I figured I saved $300.00 by not having to buy a Mustang seat with a backrest.
