    Intro

Greetings one & all, My name is Dan Bollacker. I live in Denver (Littleton) Colorado. I rode in the late 60's until the early 80's. Sold the bikes to raise the fam. Kids are on their own now. In 2004 I got back on a new 1300 VTX which I accessorized quite heavily. Last year I found this site while doing research on bikes that would be more comfortable especially over longer distances. Last year at "Thunder Mountain" (rally at Loveland, CO) I test rode all the brands. Later when Victory came to town with their road show, I drove one. In my opinion the RSV came out on top for all the same reasons mentioned on this site. I had to have blue. Tried to buy a new 07 last September but the bank & could not get close enough. I was bummed. Kind of gave up. I was not all that displeased with the VTX. The flame rekindled after the first of the year. I would check around from time to time. Found a used 07 with 5000 miles in Florence, CO. Where the heck is that. To my surprize I discovered this cool dealership in this small rural community about 100 miles southwest of Denver. They pride themselves on their customer service. They are THAT good. We made the deal ant the rest has been up hill all the way. This site is amazing and way beyond helpful. I've been implementing many of the things covered in this site. Thanks everyone! Especially to the fore founders whom have done all the grunt work so that us newbees have a much smoother road to travel. Hope I did'nt bore you to tears. Thanks again, Dan in Denver. 07 RSV Crystlblu
  2. A local dealer has the "Road Runner" series trailers for sale. He says the size is large and larger, whatever that means. He says they normally sell for $2400-$3000 and he'll let me have either size for $1500.00. I just don't know much about this trailer. Seems to have some extra's on it. I'd appreciate any help you can give on this. Thanks, Eddie Flinchum--Winchester, Ky. 2007 RSV
  3. I've got an '89 VR. I'm looking for the rubber boot that's supposed to cover the linkage on my shifter. It somehow magically disappeared while in the shop...I'm thinking I probably want to keep road junk out of there! If anybody's got an extra, let me know what you want for it...thanks!
  4. This weekend, finally got the RSTD back on the road. Man, does it feel good to have her back. Ryan, from Paragon Customs did a great job. Check out his website some time. He is one of the truly good guys out there. http://www.paragoncustoms.com/home.html
  5. Can anyone tell me how much trouble it is to install the road lamps on a 05 Vennture and is the wiring set up to just plug into exsisting harness. Thanks Big Ed
  6. To keep it in a straight line. But 100 ft of inch thick mud was more than I could get thru. Luckily just some road rash and a busted up bike. Weird thing was that 2 horses with their halters still on were just wondering down the median so I moved to the right lane and slowed to around 20 to keep an eye on them. Just as I got past them I saw I was going into the mud so I couldn't hit the brakes or try to swerve. So I guess the lesson here is WATCH for the mud and forget about the horses in the middle of the road... These big bikes will jump right up on them curbs at that speed. Its keepin it on the sidewalk after you get there is the trick.
  7. Well roughly 18 months ago I put the Blonde on the road. She had 44K on her at the time yesterday morning she turned 137K so I decided to take her off the road till all the little things like fork seals, exhuast leaks, oil leaks.ect fixed. I know some of you are gonna say its about time and to this I want to say.She still runs strong and is VERY reliable and there is nothing wrong with her that concerns me.That being said I would not hesitate to jump on her and ride accross country. Its just that I want to get her back in prime condition. She deserves it for all the milages we have racked up together. Go ahead and make your comments but NO I am not going to get a 2nd gen I am going to wait till I get her finished and ready for the road. Jeff
  8. I saw you, hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line. But you didn't see me put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last Sunday. I saw you pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk. But you didn't see me playing Santa at the local mall. I saw you change your mind about going into the restaurant when you saw my bike parked out front. But you didn't see me attending a meeting to raise more money for the hurricane relief. I saw you roll up your window and shake your head when I rode by. But you didn't see me riding behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window. I saw you frown at me when I smiled at your children. But you didn't see me, when I took time off from work to run toys to the homeless. I saw you stare at my long hair. But you didn't see me and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love. I saw you roll your eyes at our leather jackets and gloves. But you didn't see me and my brothers donate our old ones to those that had none. I saw you look in fright at my tattoos. But you didn't see me cry as my children where born or have their name written over and in my heart. I saw you change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere. But you didn't see me going home to be with my family. I saw you, complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be. But you didn't see me when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane. I saw you yelling at your kids in the car. But you didn't see me pat my child's hands knowing she was safe behind me. I saw you reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road. But you didn't see me squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to take the next turn. I saw you race do wn the road in the rain. But you didn't see me get soaked to the skin so my son could have the car to go on his date. I saw you run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time. But you didn't see me trying to turn right. I saw you cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in. But you didn't see me leave the road. I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to pass. But you didn't see me. I wasn't there. I saw you go home to your family. But you didn't see me. Because I died that day you cut me off. I was just a biker. A person with friends and a family. But you didn't see me. Repost this around in hopes that people will understand the biker community. If you don't repost this, it sucks to be you. I hope you never lose someone that rides. EVEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE US, RESPECT OUR RIGHTS TO RIDE WHAT WE CHOOSE AND TAKE A FEW EXTRA SECONDS TO BE SURE WE ARE NOT IN "YOUR" WAY
  9. A friend of mine just got new rubber on his Shadow Spirit and decided it was time to go scuff them in, so we took off yesterday at about 11:00 am. It was already close to 60f. We rode up 575/515 to Ellijay, Ga and then took what we refer to as the Blue Ridge Bypass. It's a back road (Boardtown, I think) that comes out on hwy 5 past Blue Ridge. (Here is where I started feeling guilty! I thought "Man, I should've called Brokespur!" but we were already past his place. Sorry Ken, my bad!) We took a left and went up hwy 68, which is a great ride in itself, to Tellico Plains Tn. Grabbed a jalepeno burger at Hardies and jumped on the Cherohala Skyway. Great ride, temp dropped to 51, little traffic, only had to pass two cars the whole way. Just had to watch out for gravel and other "winter debris". There was a surprising amount of snow on the slopes on the south side of the road above four thousand feet. At one point there was a strip of snow/ice on the road that was about 5 feet long. I pointed it out to Gary and watched in my mirror as he proceeded to ride right down the length of it! Proves you can ride on ice and not go down. Also proves you go where you look! After that we rode up to the Dragon, the store is open for the season again. We asked about the conditions on the road and they said it is white from the winter salt and some places have piles a couple of inches deep. Even so we rode it pretty hard, you just had to keep an eye on things a little more. I only slid once on some salt. It was a superb ride up and back. Quite a few people there for a Thursday, but nothing like the weekends. We wanted to do another run but it was already 10 minutes to 5 and we wanted to make Bike Night at Hooters Canton. We were still 2 1/2 hours away! It was the first "Official" bike night, although a friend and I have been going almost every Thursday night thru' the winter, lowest temp we saw was 27f. Last night saw about 50-60 bikes. After Bike Night I rode with another friend to escort a lady friend, that rides a Road King, home before heading home myself. All in all I did 401 miles yesterday and managed to ride to the Sky, slay a Dragon, drink beer, look at some nice bikes and escort a lady home! (I won't claim to be a gentleman:rotf:) Man, it don't get much better!!!
  10. After reading a thread on here and thinking about my own close calls....Im sure we have all had them. I got to thinking about some of the strange ones. One time while on my '83 I was motoring along at about 45-50 mph and a friggin' bird flew between me and the windshield. Another time while living up in the mountains on my way home at about 11pm a deer ran out from the side of the road and just past me. He was so close that I could hear his hooves hitting the pavement behind me...over the sound of the motor and the Judas Priest blaring from the radio. That was kinda spooky. And just yesterday while out exploring some of the back roads a truck in front of me appearantly hit a 2x4 that bounced up from under the truck, slammed back down to the road then proceded to explode like a granade, sending bits of wooden "shrapnel" everywhere. Thank goodness for my windshield. I got a few others that I might share later. LOL like a wasp stinging me in the armpit in rush hour LOL that was kinda different! What you got?
  11. well i come to you with a very heavy heart this morning. Last night at around 6:00pm i was traveling west bound on hwy 11 towards Delavan Wi. As i rounded a blind corner at approximatly 50 mph not 50 ft. in front of me there was a disabled vehicle with many spectators in the middle of the road. No time to react and ice covered road shoulders, about the only thing i could do was try to execute a controled slide to not hit anyone or anything. As i hit the hard cold ground it seems only to apparent that this is not going to end well. As i slide across the pavement for what seems like an eternity my only thoughts are of my poor beloved first gen that i had spent every spare moment perfecting. The bike and i finally come to a stop and now everyones focus turns to me, worried only about my bike i tell everyone i am ok. As i go to pick up the bike i realize maybe i am not doing so well as my shoulder lets out a loud pop, still not willing to let the bike lay in it's current state i ask for help getting it on the stand. By now the pain is really starting to set in, i call a friend who brought a flat bed for the bike. for me it was a nice ambulance ride to Mercy hospital. I got out of the hospital this morning around 6:00. As you can see by my writing this my thoughts are still of my bike. Oh ya by the way i have a broken collar bone and a dis-located hip, amazing what addrenaline will do for ya. As far as the bike goes upon meager inspection, the right side fairing is gone, windshield, rivco air horns, lower fairing, mirror,cb,,class, brake lever, trunk lid only, right saddle bag complete, i'm sure there will be more. I will get my son to get some pics up for you asap. The worse part about this is it is so hard to get good quality parts for these bikes now, i will heal but my bike? Also it was running great finally and was so beautiful. Thanks for listening. kurt827.
  12. I travel quite a bit to auto auctions for my employer to buy used cars. On my way back form Milwaukee today I was thinking how great it will be when the weather warms and I can ride to an auction or two. That got me to thinking about the condition of some patches of road here in Wisconsin and other states I sometimes travel through. There are long stretches of interstate where the pavement is degenerating into long deep trenches on each side of the road and down the middle between lanes. Some of these trenches and potholes are 8 inches deep. That would be a disaster on a motorcycle. I know that these will be patched eventually, but will take a while to do it. These trenches will drastically reduce our ability to manuever and change lanes. PLEASE be careful during our early spring rides and watchout for bad sections of road. We sure don't want see anymore "rider down" posts.
  13. OK folks...I am NOT asking anything from any of you because I know that many of you have given to a number of causes here and I know that all of us, me included, only have so much to give. What I AM asking is that you spread the word among any other groups that you might belong to. ANY groups...motorcycle, car, gardening, whatever other forums, clubs, associations you might be part of....please help spread the word about this cause. It truly is a worthy one. I have listed 5 of our VentureRider Guardian bells on Ebay as a fund raiser for Cliffno350's son. Some of you have likely seen posts here regarding his ordeal and I just feel that I need to make some attempt to help. There is no way that we can raise the needed $15,000.00 among our small group here but by spreading the word to other groups, we may be able to help at least a bit. The following is a cut and past from one of the auctions that I just placed on Ebay. There are 5 auctions that are the exact same. Please forward the links to any and all that you think might be interested in helping. The links to the auctions are at the end of this post. If you folks would post this at other forums/clubs that you participate in, that would be great. PLEASE discuss it with the sites owners/officers before doing so just in case any of them might have an issue with it. If you know anybody who would like to simply donate a couple of dollars to this cause, you can have them paypal it to dnelson@axcesswave.com and I promise you that every dime of it will get to Cliff and his family. I do ask that you put "FOR CLIFF" in the comments box when you send a PayPal. Here is the text from the Auctions. I am selling 5 custom cast Guardian Bells with 100% of the proceeds (less Ebay fees if excessive) going to VentureRider member cliffno350. VentureRider.org is a motorcycle site dedicated to the Yamaha Venture, Royal Star Venture and Royal Star Tour Deluxe motorcycles. Though the site is dedicated to riders of these particular bikes, we have members who ride bikes of all makes and models. VentureRider is a family oriented "PG RATED" site basically dedicated to those who love to tour this great country and other countries on motorcycles of any kind. Cliff is one of our long standing members. His son has been diagnosed with Transverse Myelites. This is something that I knew basically nothing about but there is a lot of information about it at http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/transversemyelitis/detail_transversemyelitis.htm Cliff and his wife are great parents and luckily their insurance has covered much of the expense but not nearly all. The issue now is that they need to purchase him a special therapy bike. These bikes are about $15,000.00 and the insurance company has refused to pay for it. You can see what we are trying to buy here: http://www.restorative-therapies.com/ With all the other expenses, Cliff and his wife simply do not have the cash or available resources to purchase it on their own. With this bike, Cliff's son does have a chance of someday walking again. There is no guarantee but it does give him a chance. Folks, I know that if it were one of my children, I would be doing everything that I can to get them the help that they need. I know that I can't, on my own, raise $15,000.00 for them but I have to believe that together we can make a difference. This is no scam. You are more than welcome...even encouraged...to visit us at VentureRider.org and see that we are real. I am the owner and founder of the club and my username there is Freebird. The site is 100% free so feel free to check it out and feel free to ask there about me. We have over 4,000 members and I will be starting a fund drive there also. I had some of these bells custom cast for our members before the holidays. I have a few left over so decided that I would offer 5 of them here with all proceeds going to Cliff and his family. NOTE: I did not say all PROFITS..I said ALL Proceeds. I am donating my cost for the bells. The only deduction will be actual PayPal fees and I'm only saying that just in case we get lucky and some big spender REALLY bids them up so that my fees are beyond what I can afford. Folks...if we could collect $5.00 from 3,000 people, we could change this young man's life. How often do most of us have the opportunity to make a REAL difference in a particular person's life. Let's do this folks...PLEASE ...let's make this happen. The Legend of the Guardian Bell Legend has it that Evil Road Spirits have been latching themselves on to motorcycles for as long as there have been bikes on the road. These Evil Road Spirits are responsible for mechanical problems and bad luck along a journey. Legend goes on to say that by attaching a small bell onto your bike, the Evil Road Spirits will become trapped inside the bell where the constant ringing drives them insane, making them lose their grip until they fall to the ground. (Ever wonder where potholes come from?) Legend also has it that the mystery of the Guardian® Bell carries twice as much power when it is purchased by a friend or loved one and given as a gift. Show someone how much you care. Offer them defense against the Evil Road Spirits! Give a Guardian® Bell and share the Legend of Good Luck it offers to a motorcycle and its rider! 14. Check out this new video on YouTube. Its about enjoying the open road by Joey L and the Shovelheads. [ame=http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=x4mU8ZqMZPU]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=x4mU8ZqMZPU[/ame]
  15. I am considering going on a road trip from Calgary, Alberta to San francisco, CA, any suggestions or experiences would be appreciated, I am really pumped about this trip.
  16. Planning a road trip from OKC to see my folks in Florida, fathers in a nursing home now, going to help mother. Mom wants me to cleanout the garage and take everything with me so I'll be driving the truck. Mapquest wants to route me a way I'm unfamilar with. Can someone tell me how the road is on Rt.280 between Birmingham, Al. & Columbus, Ga.? Then from Columbus, Ga. - Albany - Tifton? What is the speed limits on these roads? Do you have to slow down thru ever town? If I were riding a bike it would be my highway of choice but time is short.

    The Biker

A friend sent this to me, you may have read it before, but I thought I would share it with my friends..... The Biker I saw you hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line. But, you didn't see me put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last Sunday. I saw you pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk. But, you didn't see me, playing Santa at the local mall. I saw you change your mind about going into the restaurant. 20. Most of the older members know about the Driving light brackets that I made for my 1st gens for adding additional lights up higher. By keep them up higher it allows for better angling and free from road debris. They work great and will definitely brighten up the road and help you to be seen. They bolt on to where the horn originally goes and it takes about 10 minutes or less to install them on the bike. They only come in a Satin finish. This is only for the brackets, you'll have to pick out what lights you like best. The $30.00 price includes the shipping in the continental US. Canada will be $5 more, I have a couple dozen of these left and when they are gone....I'm not making anymore of them. PM me if you have any questions.
  21. I want to turn my rear turn signals into running and brakes lights also. I have searched the threads here and have seen information on installing several available options that require splicing. I would like to install a module that is plug n play and do not want to splice if at all possible. I have found these 2 modules(http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=metric&ci=3861) from kuryakyn. They are labeled to fit different years of the V & Road Stars, but seems to me that 1 of them ought to work on the 2nd gen. Has anybody used 1 of these modules? Does anyone have a picture of the wiring harness for the rear lights on a V or Road Star?
  22. my son-enlaw and I are planning another trip to the east coast [miami beach]..last year we took i-40 ,,,this year we will be taking the low road .just wondering if any knows of any thing that is a must see down that way?
  23. Since we have such nice cold weather here in the south, figured might as well take the beast apart and repaint it. Wanting to go back with white paint to make it for noticeable on the road and since I live on a gravel road maybe it will not look so dirty too. Any how which is the best white paint for the beast as for good contact and that will last many years down the road? Has anybody added any type of metal flake to white paint before? If all else fails I could just use can spray paint and use some of my daughters glitter. buddy Buddy

Thanks.........
  25. Hi All, I got back from Snake's place last night. He and the family are doing ok. We looked at his 2nd house. Old Victorian 2 story. It has been vacant for several years before he got it. Structurally sound and has the potential to be a showplace. Needs the kitchen put in and bathroom redone. Also paint, plaster, and scraping. Mainly a good dose of TLC. He is going to clean out the place so there is room to work. For the time being they have a furnished place to stay. So, when he gets the place open, we need to have a repair party!! There are neighbors, Patriot Guard, and folks from the F.D. he belongs to willing to help also. Best thing now is to let Snake and the lawyers work on the place that burnt down. Hopefully this gives him seed money for the other place. I will go back down in a few weeks and check on progress. Snake says hi and bless everyone for their prayers and wishes. He won't be on for a while as he lost his new laptop. I am trying to salvage his files and pics off of it. It to a good firehose hit! I will post some picture this evening. J.B.
