  1. 87 venture, CB and AM radio work. FM makes static noise, but no stations pull in. Possible problem? thanks craig
  2. In my ongoing attempt to get comfy I was wondering about cycling shorts? They come with built in padding.... Aside from that I'm about to pull the trigger on a Daylong!
  3. I have been looking for an enclosed trailer to rent in the Chicago land area, to pull 1 or 2 motorcycles. Does anyone know of a place? The only one I could find was Arlington Motorsports, but they are kind of pricey. http://www.arlingtonmotorsportsinc.com/trailer_rentals.htm Thanks.
  4. I want to rmove the CD player from the saddle bag temporarly. Can I not unplug the cord from the player itself? It feels like I'm going to break something if I pull any harder.
  5. Hi Folks.....I just got a 83 Venture Royale about a month ago. In the process of putting it up for the winter I removed the battery today. It is a walmart Energizer branded battery with a sensor on it. I have never owned a bike that used one of these sensors before and I have a couple of questions about it. It seems to be part of the battery and I don't want to break it by trying to pull it off....when I replace the battery should it be removed and installed on the new one or does a replacement battery already have one with it? Also can I use a replacement battery without a sensor? I've included a pic below. Thanks in advance..... http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s33/Tarl-Saxon/100_0401.jpg
  6. Just wondering how eveyone else decides which is the best. I,ve noticed when I,m in the mountains, especially two up or pulling a trailer and cruising on curvy mountain roads the scenery goes by and all I see is the road in front. Really have to stop or pull over some where safe to have a look around. When I,m driving all I see is the road in front, miss all the good stuff. On the prairies things seem to slow down and if there is some thing interesting you get a chance to decide if it,s interesting and pull over. Now I know the air is fresher and cleaner in the moutains but it just seems that I stop more to look around when on an open road than in the hills. Funny thing is I have met more people pulled over on:think: the open road than in the hills, both in Canada and the US.
  7. Got the 1st gen back together, new brakes front and rear, new rear tire, Shinko 777, like the way it felt when I test drove it last night, only 1 small detail to take care off, headlight burnt out while I was test driving it, so need to pull it this afternoon and put the spare in it, change the oil and she is ready to ride full time. Hopefully the weather will clear up by tomorrow so I can make it to 86er's M&E&R&E&R.
  8. I sucked on it with my mouth and it seemed to hold and I am proud to say that I am not good doing that. What amount of vacuum should I pull to test it fully?
  9. I took Blu out for a couple hours today and i almost feel human again. I was down to the last fuel bar and still had enough seafoam to cause a let of very smelly smoke. It took a bit to warm up but once it ran a bit, I took to the road. I rode it to the station and filled up. there was just a bit of flutter taking off but after a few min on the interstate, everything smoothed out and she was silk again. I had not ridden it since I had trouble with height and almost dumped it at a stop sign. After Yammer Dan and others helped me through the settings, I got a mud wasp nest out of the shock area and I could flat foot her. I decided to go play in the slow traffic and get used to it. I was amazed that I never had to put my feet down until I was totally stopped. She balanced very well even going really slow. I tried some tight turns. It was no effort to pull into a parking space in an empty lot pull through the spot and u back into the third spot with no problem. As much as I would like a RSV, I hope the guy does not come up with the money this weekend. Thanks for the help guys!
  10. Ok, so I had the thread earlier about the fuel petcock. Got the fixed, the bikes running, so moving on to the next thing. I have an 83 venture. I paid $400 for the bike. The only other thing I tell is wrong with it so far is the foot brake. I know it also controls one of the front calipers. The problem is that when you press the pedal down, it stays, and you have to pull it back up. So any suggestions, tips, advice, etc., would be greatly appreciated. thanks for all the help earlier. Look forward to getting my bike on the road!!
  11. Well, we made it home from Oklahoma with the RSV. Trip was 680 miles. I rode the first 20 miles to where the trailer was, and as soon as we got there, it started raining, and a pretty good fog set in. Good thing I had reserved the trailer just in case. As soon as we got into clear weather, I had to pull in and get that road grime off the bike real quick. It was looking pretty nasty. Will spend a few hours tomorrow cleaning it back up. Glad to have it home.
  12. I've got my 89 in pieces--it's winter and a great time to do Preventative Maintenance. I pulled the shaft drive apart to grease the front spline. Is there any reason for me to pull the shaft out of the gearbox and lube the rear spline?? Or is the designed lube flow (from the gearbox) just fine and never given anybody a problem?? If I pull it apart, do I just take the snap ring off and slide the washer off? Frank
  13. I've checked the post and have not been able to find a tread about this problem. I just bought a 2001 with 4,550 miles on it. When I arrived the previous owner was warming up the Venture. He said it was cold natured and took awhile to warm up. He said he usually would just ride with the choke on until it warmed up. My 2000 Venture if you do have to pull out the choke you just pull it out for a few seconds and then push the choke in and it is fine. This 2001 you have to leave the choke out for 5 minutes or more before you can push it in or the Venture will die. I test drove the Venture before I bought it and it flies on the highway. It runs very strong and smooth. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be the problem? The Venture still has the original tires on it so I'm going to assume it has the original plugs. I'm going to put new plugs in it but I would think that if the plugs had anything to do with it that it would not run so strong or smooth on the highway. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 14. Last Friday, the storm that went up the east coast changed from rain to snow just south of me. at about 10pm I lost my cable and internet service. I still have a few snowy channels on the tv, but that is it. Before it was over, we got at least 6 inches of heavy snow that is still here. It is supposed to be about 47 by tomorrow, so it should start melting soon. I don't remember a time in the past that I looked so forward to coming to work. The first thing I did when I got here was to go on the internet and pull up VentureRider.org. Finally, the withdrawals are subsiding and I am trying to get some work done. Man, this has been a tough 2 1/2 days. I really feel for those without power and internet. I have been there, done that and it ain't fun. RandyA
  15. are vstar 1100s hydr. cluych or are they cable pull with adjustments?
  16. Drill a small hole, grind off the point on the back, install a small split ring and......ta-dah, instant way cool zipper pull. Works with any extra pins you may have collected over the years. Thanks again Bob.
  17. I have had these mufflers on for 3 seasons and would like to repack the fiberglass in them, assuming there is some. I tried to pull the baffle out the back of the muffler, it will turn but it will only come so far. Anyone had the same problem?
  18. Well it looks like I need a larger stator..... I only have the yamaha passing lamps and a set of Motolights and the bike cant handle it... Drains the battery.... if I turn off the 55 watt Moto lights I could save the 8.3 amps... but I bought them to be seen....... I was going to pull the plug on the carb heaters, but this is wisconsin......I ride until it snows...never too cold with the buckeye stator I hope to have more than enough power
  19. No pics needed, just a little imagination. Go to dealer for 64k service. Through telepathy, tell tech to half a$$ put the seat bolts back on. Get on bike ready to leave and notice something "weird" with the seat. Pull up on it a couple times and it is on there. Figure they must have missed the little tab in the back and think it's no biggie, will fix when you get home. Get home only to be able to pull the seat completely off as there are no bolts holding the seat down. Also notice that a couple accessories aren't attached to the fuse block like the Stebel horn (2 for 2 w/ this service shop). Get mad, say a few cuss words, go inside, eat supper, play with kids, get them ready to bed, post about your new quick release seat mod and you are done.
  20. I know with all the knowledge here that someone can explain this for me. I have a utility trailer I want to modify to pull with my scoot and wanted to know if a swivel hitch is necessary or can I pull with just the standard hitch and ball. It seems that with the trailer on the ball there is enough side to side movement that a swivel is unnecessary but the idea seems right. Any takers? Wayne
  21. Went for one of those rides this afternoon, the one where you are making a run to the store and then you are 20 miles from home on a back road. Well, as I came to a stop on a hill at a stop sign, the bike died instantly and all lights go off. I turn the switch off and back on and had nothing. I coast the bike back to a level place away from the intersection and pull the top cover. I used my ohm/volt meter and the battery was good, so I checked across the main fuse and got no voltage. I pulled the fuse apart and it was blown bigtime. I used a #16 jumper wire across the fuse and turned the switch back on and everything powered up. I figured if it was still a dead short to ground, the #16 wire would give me a second to check it and would act like a fuse. Since that seemed to work ok, I took the fuse apart and stuck the eyelet terminal into the slot on the wire from the battery and it fit snug. I again started the bike and everything worked ok. Since it was looking like rain and everything was working, I decided to strap the cover to the trunk and take off toward home as it would be real easy to pull the wire apart if something happened.. The bike ran perfect all the way home. So, now the bike is sitting out in the garage with the terminal pulled apart and I have no idea what caused the fuse to blow. The two screws that hold the fuse in place were tight, so that was not the problem. I guess I will have to pull fairings and see if I can find a ground point and I also will need another fuse. Anyone got a suggestion on where to get a fuse, I think it is a 40 amp? RandyA
  22. I purchased an 03 RSV at a good price and I'm trying to get right before I re sell it. It has new tires, brakes and the head bearings seem to be right according to the adjustment info supplied here for bump and return of the front end as posted. The problem is that when you go into a turn you feel as if you have to muscle it. You almost have to pull with one hand and push with the other. It is not as smooth as my 1999 RSV. I have a suspicion that something may be out of alignment or bent. Anyone have any ideas as to how to check if something is bent (ie: fork leg)? Any help is appreciated.
  23. The one on the bars not the slave cylinder. I had a extra in my parts and took it out to put on my 85. It only had 2 wires in the wiring harness. When I started to pull the one from the 85 it had 4 wires. So back to plan one. I replaced the plunger and bushing but it still does not return out all the way when you release it after pulling into bar. I did bleed it out. Do I need to take the plunger out and clean in there or what? The master itself is working good just not returning as far as it should. It lacks quite a bit coming out as far as it should. A inchor little better. After you release it you can pull it out that much further.
  24. OK I have the kit to add freon to auto A/C. Works on most. Got a Tarus I was trying to charge and they say you charge on high side on this one?? Anyway my adapter won't fit on port on high side and can't get low side to take anything. It is low on freon. I thought low side was sucking all the time and would pull it in. My kit will go on low side. Doesn't seem to fit as well as it should but I thought it should pull freon in. Adapter won't snap on as it should but I am holding it in place and trying to charge?? Just charged a Chevy with it??
  25. Was out to Big Dude's (Mike) house today to look at his grinder. He pulled a holeshot and when he went to grab second gear, he thought he missed it. Went to 3rd and it was there. Started making a grinding sound by the middle gear area, harrdly pulling itself down the road. Muffinman had him pull the final drive and driveshaft, all looks good. We pulled the middle gear cover off, cannot feel anything through there. Pulled the swingarm off and removed the output half of the pinion gear (which I thought would be gone) and it looked perfect. Pulled the clutch and could not find anything there. turning the inner clutch plate produced no grinding sounds. Dropped the oil pan, no extra materials in there. Before we disassembled everything, I started it and tried it myself. WIth clutch pulled in, no noise. As soon as you try to put it in gear, the grinding starts. As long as it's in gear, it will grind. Will hardly pull itself, even with my scrawny butt on it! I'm thinking we may have to pull the motor and split the cases to see whats going on in there, but any other opinions will be investigated first. Dan
