  1. Well Friday is another biopsy, 6th since 11/08 they'll be taking a chunk of lymph node out of my neck. Not so worried about the surgery but the results will determine the length and strength of my future treatment (for non-hodgkins lymphoma) chemo and radiation scare the crap out of me. when Diagnosed the Dr. said I'll die with it not from it. Now things are changing. so put a good word in with our Lord. I believe in the power of prayer, so all will be appreciated
  2. I'm thinking hard about adding another bike or trading my Road Star and I was pretty much decided on a Yamaha Roadliner or Stratoliner; but then I started researching the Kawasaki Vulcan 2000 and it's definitely in the mix now. I was just wondering if anyone has owned both or had a chance to ride both to compare them in power, riding position and comfort. I've been on a Liner a couple of times and would be happy with one but I'm understanding that the Vulcan gives a little more room to stretch out and a lower seat height. Anyone?
  3. Carb or coil????? About three weeks ago I rode the Venture, and all was well. Last week I rode it in to work, and it just didn't have any power,,, When I got to the shop I felt of the pipe covers at the engine, and found that the front left was cold as a cumber. Thought junk in the carb. Got it home and drained the bowl, and there was a very small amount of tinny trash,,,, OK I re charged the carb, and drained it two or three times, and it was clear. Kool.. Ran it for about 20 minutes,, and all seemed good to go all pipes good and HOT. Took it out for a test, and crap still no power, and back firing. Took the tank off and the dog bone to check the plug ( new only 1500 or so on them ) While I had it out thought I would look at the spark. The plug had spark, but I don't know if it is a good spark. I also saw leakage spark coming off the wire just above the boot,,, Not sure if that is good or not. Put the plug back in, and turned off the lights, and started it up. Seems to run great at idle, and no leak ( I could see ) on the wire with plug installed. Big time confused on which way to go now. Can the wire be replaced or it it a coil change, and can a coil break down under power, but seem good at idle. Carb In other words HELP!!!!
  4. What a nice bike. I was slightly nervous at first. The ride is great. Handles good. Felt a little "light" in the front end to me for some reason, but I am sure that will go away. Has pretty good power for a big bike. Definetly needs pipes though.........
  5. With the key off I have power to the clock but as soon as I turn the key to the on position I lose all power. I was having problems with the charging system and I was told to check the plug between the alternator stator and the voltage regulator for burned connections. I accidentally tried to start the bike before plugging this connection back together and it made a weird buzzing sound and that is when this whole loss of power when the key is on problem started. So Now I need to fix this problem before I can finish repairing the charging problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? Where to start? I'm kind of at a loss on this one. I tried searching the forums for a similar problem already posted but wasn't able to find one.
  6. Hello all, I am a new member and looking for some help. I have a 2005 Royal Star Tour DLX. Love this machine just looking for more POWER. I have been told I can have the engine pumped up to the VMAX power. Can someone please advise me as to what has to be done to do this and a ball park as to what it would cost and a good place to have it done around the Toronto Ontario Canada area or anywhere near. Thanks ever so much in advance.
  7. As I have stated before my other bike is a Honda Valkyrie. A common performance modification that is done and I have done to mine is the one listed below. http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/ect-mod.htm It is basically tapping into the ECM's programing which advances the timing while the bike warms up to normal operation temps to advance the timing. The Modification allows the rider to have control of advancing the timing AFTER the bike is warm also giving a bit more power and fuel efficiency. Very simple and mostly cheap and effective. I've found that my mpg increase and power increase is most noticeable with 89 octane fuels rather than 87 or 91. The modification can be turned off at any time when needed or desired. Can anyone tell me if this can be done to the Royal Star and if so where and which wires would need to be accessed.? Thanks, Tom
  8. Anyone have a spare cable like this they aren't using? I don't care to pay $35 for a cable on a unit that is as old as this model. Kids got ahold of the cable one day and can't get the unit to power on anymore. :-( Or tell me how I can hardwire it to the bike. Thanks
  9. Where does one attach the power wire to the accessory side of the electricial when adding a set of additional lights, so the key controls when the additional lights get power?
  10. I'm having trouble getting access to a Dodge forum. I know many of you are experienced with other than Ventures/Yamaha. I have a 2005 Dakota, 4.7 V8, 4 wheel drive. Low mileage, under 30,000. My problem is with the power steering. When it is cold, the power steering is "stiff", difficult to turn the steering wheel. It is slow returning to center, I have to steer it back to center. I feels kind of "jumpy" with little surges of power assist. As it warms up, the problem diminishes, and eventually virtually disappears. In warm weather as the engine warms more quickly, the problem also goes away more quickly. I'm looking for suggestions as to what the problem may be. I have limited mechanical resources. I've thought of trying to change the fluid, but don't know how I would get all of the old fluid out of the system.
  11. I've been looking around for a VW Dub Beetle for my daughter and found one that appeared on Craigslist yesterday. The ad looked good...sorta?? So I took a chance and responded to the email...which also looked good... sorta...?? After responding, I then did a national CL search on Google. The ad popped up in Pennsylvania, San Francisco Ca, and here is Sacramento. I figured, ah cr@p it's a scam. Then I received this response this morning. Hi, Thanks for replying to my ad. I'm in a hurry to find a buyer because I have a family emergency and I need to sell it before December 9th. My name is Emily. I'm an Air Force Staff Sergeant stationed at the Elmendorf AF Base, Anchorage, Alaska. The car is here with me. I'm the original owner. It has no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects. It is in immaculate condition, meticulously maintained and hasn't been involved in any accident...I do have the title, clear, under my name. Non-smoker. It is rust free, salt free and has a clean undercarriage. This 2004 Volkswagen New Beetle GLS has 74,200 miles, Campanella with Tan Lether Interior, Automatic, FWD, Engine 2.0L L4 SFI SOHC 8V Gasoline. AM/FM Anti-Theft CD Player Premium Sound AC Auxiliary Pwr Outlet Cruise Daytime Running Lights Dual Heated Exterior Mirrors Heated Exterior Driver Mirror Power Locks Power Mirrors Power Steering Power Windows Rear Vents Sunroof Tilt Anti-Lock Brakes Drivers Front Airbag Dual Front Airbags Fog Lights Keyless Entry Rear Defroster Security System Side Airbags Side Head Air Bag Variable Wipers Extra Keys and more... Here you can find more pictures of the car: http://s1228.photobucket.com/home/beetle_pics/index (if the above link does not work copy and paste it into a new web browser window). It is still available for sale if interested, price as stated in the ad $2,999. If you want to buy this car I will take care of shipping. Shipping will be door to door, to your home address and I will offer 5 days to inspect the car from the moment you receive it (and the option to accept or reject the vehicle on my expense), before I'll have your money. So if you need further information please get back to me as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you. SSgt. Emily xxxxxxxxxxxx So I wrote back stating that I was interested, and we'll see were it goes from here. If this is a scam, DAMN!! it's good. Some things that still bother me are.. No license plate on the car in the pics. The price is way cheap. Logistics..it's located in Anchorage. Pushy time frame... Condition is much better than what I'd expect being in AK?? What I like is she's not wanting me to pay for the thing up front. This one's really got me confoosed...
  12. My main desktop at home seems to be "toes up" at this point. It started a while back giving me a BSOD message that it could not load c:\winnt\system32\config\software when 1st powered on or restarted. Power off and power right back up and it would boot normally and work fine, until the next reboot. Then it got to the point it would "blue screen" randomly, and then the power off and power back on did not work anymore. The can't load "software" message happened every time. I found a fix on Microsoft's site, where all the registry pieces in the "config" folder are replaced from the "repair" folder. Now it won't boot normally or in Safe Mode. I thought well I'll try a "repair". There lies the problem and therefore my question. When I select ®epair I get the message something to the effect "no windows system found" and it wants to install a fresh copy of Win-XP. The question is what does the install routine need to find to recognize there is an operating system in need of repair?
  13. Hi guys, winter project time.. The 4 way flashers on our RSV require the bike to turned on (ignition ON) which means you'd have to leave the bike running or risk the battery draining since the headlight is left on with the key turned to ON.. I've searched around for alternatives to this set up, but nothing concrete comes up.. Could it be as simple as moving one or two wires from the ignition side of a circuit over to an AUX side of the circuit? I'm not electrically inclined (I get zapped a lot) so I'm not sure how that would work.. Anyone have any info on how one could have the 4 way flashers (hazard lights) come on with the bike on Aux power? If the signal lights were LED, then they would be easy on battery power consumption, no? Thanks in advance..
  14. Read some of the posts regarding power problems. Not sure it fits mine. I have a 2000 Venture and just put on a sidecar for the wife. It weighs 225 lbs. Expected to loose some power and fuel milage. However, I went from 35/40 down to 20/25 MPG. I don't expect to go get the good MPG back but this is a hit. Going up grades on the interstates is a struggle. Have changed plugs, no wet ones when I did. Does not starve or stall out. Looking for ideas, suggestions. Thanks, Bill
  15. Has anyone mounted your iphone to the handlebars? I’ve found the ads so I know they exist, my questions is more about your experience. Have there been any long term issues with vibrations? Are you worried about when it rains? Do you have it wired to the bikes electrical system for power? I am looking at getting an iphone 4 and also a Bluetooth headset (maybe scala, not sure yet). I have a Zumo 550 and am thinking I need to link the phone separately from the Zumo since the Zumo only does Bluetooth in mono, not stereo. So I woul This would require a headset that allowed for multiple connectionsd have the Zumo for traffic and Nav, and use the iphone for music and incoming only calls. Does the iphone need to be mounted for this purpose, or would it be better to keep either in my pocket or in the saddlebag with an external power source? My commute is about an hour each way.
  16. I forgot to put in the year model on my Sportser ad, which loaded just fine after I reduced the picture size. (Thanks again, Freebird!) Any way of modifying the ad? The bike is a 2000 model. If one of the admin folk have the computer power, they have my permission to make the change, or give me instructions on how to make it myself. Sorry for the hassle. As you can see, I am NOT an electron pusher at all.
  17. My 86 burned a valve and runs like crap. I can get 92 for $2500 with 80K miles on it, plus I have LOTS of great parts from the 86. OR, I can get a fully optioned 2001 BMW K1200LT with 39k miles and new service and tires for $7500. What do you think? Keep in mind I don't have as much time to work on them like I used to. I like the Venture looks and power. I like the BMW fuel injection and adjustable windshield. Moma like the BMW heated seats, but the lower price of the Venture. If I look at it in a 5 year term, the BMW seems the correct choice.
  18. My Dad has a lot of health problems, thanks to Agent Orange. He is finally on VA 100% disability for it. A while back, we sold his 2006 Road King, as it was too heavy for him to hold up. He has neuropathy in his legs, and he also has Parkinson's. After selling the RK, he bought Midnite's 1100 Vstar, because it was much lighter, and had a lower seat height. Although it was easier for him to ride, he still had problems with it, so he sold it also. We decided it would be safer on four wheels, and since he probably doesn't have too many good years left, it was time to just say "%&$@ it", and just go borrow the money, and buy himself a nice car. The car is a 1948(same year he was born) Ford Super Deluxe Coupe. It has had a LOT of work done in the restoration, and it sports a mildly built Chevy 350. It also has power steering, power brakes, front disc brakes, and cruise control. We are going to add air conditioning. He is a happy camper now.
  19. Hi, What do we know about the amount of power available to power accessories on a stock '84 non Royale? All otherwise being well, how much current can I draw with add on accessories without risking a no start situation at the next stop? Thanks, Brian H.
  20. I bought a set of passing lamps used so of coarse no instructions. Where should I get the power from? Do I need relay?
  21. I think I'm in love - many times over. WOW! http://www.flixxy.com/top-female-tennis-players-slow-motion.htm
  22. I want to put a USB port in the fairing of my '07. I will use it to power an iPhone. My question for any shade tree electricians is: Can I just run the USB straight to a power source? Do I need to regulate voltage going to the port? I don't care if I fry the USB port, I just don't want to fry my phone when I plug it in! Thanks in advance for any advice/tips/warnings!
  23. So I was riding home and about 50 mi or so from home I started noticing a klunk when i would go from on power to off power, figured i would check it out when i got home but the bike had other ideas, i was coming around a corner and let off the gas, got back on the throttle and nothing but a BAD grinding noise, the bike seems to go in and out of all gears just fine but no power to the wheel and a bad grinding noise if put into any gear when running, can anyone tell me what i might be up aginst before i start tearing this thing apart?
  24. Anyone here ever use or know about Power Puck by Diablo Sport? I have read a lot of good stuff about it, but still a little iffy. Looking to get a little more pep out of the diesel truck when pulling the horse trailer.
  25. Trader

    New boat!

Noting to do with bikes....but FINALLY something seems to have gone right! I advertised the ATV that I had on this site's classified locally, and suggested I would be open to trades for a fishing boat. I got a phone call from a guy with a boat he was advertising for $4500...so I figured there was no way he would trade with me. I was asking $3000 but expected to get MAYBE $2500. But he did! It ended up I traded the ATV, a cheap flatbed trailer and set of ramps EVEN for his boat. So AT MOST I paid $3500 for the boat...but probably more like $3000. It is a 18' (I think...maybe 19?) Springbok aluminum fishing boat with a 112 hp Evenrude 2 stroke and a trailer. The motor has power trim and seems to run really well. The Boat is the style that has the forward mounted console (about 1/3 from the back) with a casting seat up front, a single bench in the center and a reversable bench at the console. The boat has 2 live wells with water and air pumps, lots of storage compartments, and came with a foot operated trolling motor, gas tanks, 2 batteries, paddles, stereo, fish finder, 2 power bilge pumps and air horns that scared the H### out of me when I hit the switch by mistake!!!!!! I'm thinking he wasn't too far off asking $4500. After my "issues" working on my blonde VR....I'm thrilled this seems to have been such a good deal! Especially that with trading it....it didn't cost me any CASH! We went on the water today and tried it out....not a hiccup to be seen. AND FAST!!!! The only downside is it seems it is a real pig for gas but I guess that is to be expected. Can you hear me???? "Here fishy fishy fishy!!!" Too Dark now...but I'll post pics tomorrow.
