  1. ... is there any way that you could put a direct link to the ‘new’ members public profile when you post the “Welcome” message? That way if they don’t post a reply to the welcome message we could still learn a little about who’s coming on board by clicking on the link. It would save having to do a manual search through the Community members list... or am I just getting lazy? (you don't have to answer to the "lazy" part )
  2. I noticed that the dates on the merchandise threads are 2006, Is the merchandise listed in the threads still available? I would have asked in the specific Merchandise threads , but Im not allowed to post in them.
  3. Hey, The other day, as I was getting my riding gear on in the parking lot outside the Uxbridge Mac's milk store, I was approached by a guy who said his name was Doug and that he had an '84 Venture that was having overheating issues at highway speeds. He mentioned getting advice from an Intenet forum but I don't know if it was this one or the other one. I haven't read of such a recent post here but Doug, if you are reading this post, send me a PM and lets get together for a ride and or to put our heads together on your overheating problem. Cheers, Brian H.
  4. Battery goes dead in about a week of no use (rain). I was told to put a fluke meter in between the ground wire and neg post and start pulling fuses. Battery reads 12.3 volts across the post and 11.5 with the fluke meter between the ground wire and the post.No change with pulling the fuses.(switch off position) NEED HELP Mike
  5. I need some help on the front forks. I am trying to relace the seal and put progressive springs in them with air suspension. I have both forks off the bike, I took the springs out. Pulled the dust cover off and then the clip under. Finally I pulled the gold colord washer out. What I need to know is how do I get the tubes out of the lower forks with out damaging them. :confused24: I read the post on here about doing this and the only post I can find is Freebirds and his are still on the bike. Everything else is just replacing springs on the bike. I took the forks off because I want to make sure that they are strait.
  6. I have a question on what to do with the saddle bags when they are off the bike. This stems from one of my bags flopping over and scratching the lid when I opened it. It slid on the cardboard I put down to prevent this very thing from happening. In any Case I think I saw a post with a PVC rack to hold the bags but I am unable to find the post. What is the consensus on what to do with the bags when you take them off the bike. I have been putting them in the living room on the carpeting but it would be nice to have some sort of rack to hold them. David
  7. Can someone please direct me to the post that describes how to turn off the digital tach, I can't seem to find it.
  8. Duplication from another post on the "watering hole".
  9. Check out the 2010 Ride Around Texas. 3100 mile in 70 hours. I don't think Im able. But they have a 85 hour one I may just try! Google it I ain't smart enough to post a link.
  10. This is one of many reasons I ride a venture. I'm sure we've all noticed post that are "Venture Sightings" and I like them. Yea we talk about we wish Yamaha would do more to promote the Venture and update it and there is alot of validity to those comments but at the same time, if they were as common as HD & GW I probably wouldn't be riding one. That's just my style. I'll bet you don't see post on the HD & GW sites of ____ Sighting! Throw that in with the other compliments that I find about my Venture and I like my bike even more. No bashing here, just an observation.
  11. Black Owl told me he has been fielding some questions about the trailer for the 2010 Int'l Rally that we're raffling off. Since this is my deal, I'll do my best to explain it. The supplier of the trailer is Time Out Trailers. They're a local manufacturer of the CycleMate line of motorcycle cargo trailers and Timeout motorcycle camping trailers. The deal I worked out with the owner is that we will receive a voucher good for $1500.00 towards any of their trailers. They produce about 12 different cargo trailers and 2 campers. I will post a link to their website at the end of this post. Whoever wins the trailer raffle will have to contact Timeout and can then decide what they want. You will be able to actually hand over the voucher and walk away with a base trailer or you can use it towards a higher end trailer or even a camper. However you decide it's worth $1500.00. We figured this would be easier than trying to get a certain trailer. This way the winner can decide what's the best deal for them. I hope this explains how the deal will work a little better. Questions? Let me know. I live in Elkhart and would be available to help out the raffle winner anyway I can. You can see their line of trailers here: http://timeouttrailers.org/default.aspx
  12. We just got these new portable truck lifts at work. You have to wonder what would happen if a tire blew. By the way thats me holding the one post steady, looking a lot more confident than I really am
  13. I have a video that was emailed to me this morning that I would like to post but I don't know how. If I could forward it via email, could u post it for me? Thanks Deb
  14. I don't post often because I'm so technically challenged but I figured it was a good time to post this as riding season is upon us (finally). Every since buying my 06 RSTD used I've been plagued by the brakes. The sqealing and the quish quish noise described in previous posts drove me crazy. It sounded like a bike that was ready for the scrap yard. Anyway, I had new pads put on this spring and same issue was back withing 40 miles. Having read this in a post from last year, last night I went out and soaked a rag in brake cleaner and spun each wheel while holding the rag on the rotor. On the front I put a soaked rag between the pad and rotor and had my wife apply light brake pressure while I spun the wheel. I then took the bike for a 50 mile ride and to my surprise it felt like a new bike. Hopefully it will last for a while and then I'll do it again. I was shocked at how black the rags got from the crud on the rotors. ride safe Greg:cool10:
  15. go to their User CP (link in bottom blue line at top of page) and, click on the "edit your details" link (in the blue box at the left). Then under "Custom User Title" list the year and model of the bike(s) you own. This will post the year and model of your bike in all of your posts. This makes it easier, when you post a problem, for the people to know whether you're talking about a 1st gen. or a 2nd gen. Thanks all!
  16. I was trying to find the post about a member making some off-set brackets last year to make it so his wife's legs would go down farther on the passenger floor boards . but I can not seem to find it in the search. I am looking for the post for another RSV Owner any help would be great. Thanks, Jeff

Just checking to see if we're down... there hasn't been a post in almost an hour!
  18. I recall a post about someone had used a flat style automotive air filter on a first gen. Does anyone know where that post would be, I can't locate it. I would like to try shortening my air box enough to allow the installation of the CLASS control head in the tank cover. I have a spare air box I could experiment with. Gary
  19. Hey Boss, Is there a way I can change the title to thread that is visible other that in the first post? I see where you can get to change the title of a thread but it is only viewable in the first post. I would like to see the change in the list of thread titles like when you select New Posts or go tone of the other forums. Why Is ask is that one of my recent threads has been solved and I had made a mistake in the title. My intentions were to fix the error and let everyone know the issue had been solved. I can live with it either way, just hoping it were possible. Thanks, Rick

This may not get much interest, but with all the computer and techies we have...you never know. Thought I'd post a notice that I'm on twitter, in case anyone wants to 'follow' me... Anyone else tryin it out?
  21. I am thinking of purchasing some lower wind vents (I am already feeling the heat)...and have only seen one picture of them installed....and the angle was from the front, which meant you could barely see the vents. Could someone post several angles of the vents from the back and also a closer view of the clamps. Thanks, Wally
  22. For some reason it seems that when people post links to an item on ebay, they do not work anymore. Not sure when this started, maybe a month ago or so.... Clicking on the link just takes me to the ebay home page. I have tried this on several links posted on this site, plus I have tried it on both of my computers at home and on my computer at work. In addition, I have tried it with IE8, Firefox, and Chrome browsers....same thing. Are others experiencing this? Here is a sample. Click the link shown in this post: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=451994&postcount=6 Joe
