1. In the past I have been one of those riders that gets on his bike and just rides! With that being said, Jean surprised me big time and got a Garmin Nuvi 855 as my birthday present over the weekend. (Bless her heart!) Well needless to say I spent the better part of Sunday shopping around for a mount for the thing. By the time I was finished, I felt old. There were so many choices and they looked so complicated to install and operate I said, "the heck with it" and made my own. I went to the hardware store, bought a 7/16-14 Stainless Steel bolt, a nylon inserted lock nut, a 10-32 set screw and went to the shop. As you can see in the pics, It went pretty quick. I heated the bolt with my little torch, put a couple bends in it, machined off the bolt head, drilled and tapped it for the 10-32 set screw, machined a Delrin ball for the mount, drilled and tapped it for the 10-32 set screw. On my 87'VR there was a hole plugged for what looked like a mirror, I drilled and tapped this mirror stem hole to 7/16-14 and screwed the mount together. After a test ride, the mount worked perfectly but I think I am going to add a strip of Velcro to the back of the GPS, just for safety's sake. Comments, questions are always welcome, Thanks for letting me share, and thanks Jean for a great birthday gift! Earl
2. I want to buy and install a cigarette lighter on my 2007 RSTD. Does anyone have any ideas where I can pick one up and where is a good place to mount it. Any suggestions/information would be most helpful Thanks Mark:fingers-crossed-emo
3. Hey guys, got a question for ya? I've put an XM radio (mount on master cylinder) and power it from the cigarette lighter. I also have a Garmin GPS on a ram mount on the other side right above the stock radio. My question: I'm using the power outlet for the XM, but am having to use the internal battery for the GPS. Does anyone know of a "duplex" device that will FIT into the stock power port and allow me to use 12V power for both? The adapter's I've tried will NOT clear the tank when the bars are turned. Ideas?
4. Can you all help me with finding a good GPS mount for my RSV? Maybe pictures of yours. Thanks
5. Ok here goes... The Garmin site says that the 785T is compatible with an external mic. Does anyone here have one they can look at for me? How about the Ram Mount bracket? What I want to know is Where is the mic input? Unit or Cradle? If it is in the cradle does the Ram Mount cradle have it as well? I really want to be able to use my phone if necessary and cannot justify $700 for the Zumo 550. The 785T has all the features I want for $300 and I can bag it if it looks like rain. Any input here is welcome.... and appreciated.. Wayne OR does anyone want to sell me a Zumo 550 for $400 or less??
6. I have a Blackberry Bold and I bought a mount from "the Mountguys" on the web. It was a fairly inexpensive way to mount the BB to listen to my music. However, after about 30 days I noticed a crack in the back of the mount and within another month the crack was all the way across the mount and it broke in half. I contacted the Mount Guys and they denied ever having a problem with them but, replaced the head (holder part) anyway. Well another 45 days later and I have a large crack across the back of my newest holder. I contacted the Mountguys and they informed me that they still have had no issues from anyone else on this mount and would not be replacing it again in spite of the fact that both item failed in exactly the same place and manner. Those of you who know me know that my 99 is well kept and in fact, still looks almost new and I take good care of it so the part was not abused. I am now going to find another supplier for some type of mount to hold my BB as, I have already run the cable back into the fairing and cleaned up the look etc. I won't buy again from this provider. Anyone have suggestions for a BB mount on the handlebars? boo www.mountguys.com :sign **** happens:
7. Finally got the tour-pack on thanks to the bracket from (member) naturbar. The 1998 TC is a little different from the late model TDs, in that there were no quick mount lugs and the rear holes are a little more than a inch different. Oh well, after I finally convinced the parts guy at the stealership that quick mount lugs were in the '05 TD parts book, not in the accessories book I got them ordered. Cut the stand-offs off the bracket and redrilled the holes. One twice, after my machinist son-in-law mis-measured:doh:. Anyway now it's on...
8. I decided to mount highway pegs on my floor boards in stead of the crash bars. This is what I ended up with. They are made for a Road Star. They are drill to mount. I love them. They get my feet away from the motor heat during the hot summer months. http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0295.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0296.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0297.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0298.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0299.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0300.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0301.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0303.jpg
9. I can not believe you must rewire the whole system to replace your antennas someone should make an adapter to use the existing mount they could sell alot of them anyone interested?
10. I had one of these on my Honda VTX1800 and really liked having a loud horn. Anyone here have one on there RSV is so where did you mount and do you have any pictures? Thanks
11. Sorry to keep coming to you guys..........I ain't electrically inclined. I am in the process of installing passing lights and mount on my 2004 Venture R/S. Does the turn signal wires connect in the fairing? I know I connect them to the lower portion of the mounting but I am trying to disconnect the turn signals and just removing the bolts, etc from the turn signal mount doesn't do the job. Where do you disconnect the wiring? I'll probably be back to ask another question but this will get me started. Thanks.

Helmet Cam fun

After trying a bunch of helmet cams and stuff I've never enjoyed the resulting video too much.. Here are quickly done up videos where I mounted a Panasonic SDR-S150 camera to a Fat Geko Helmet Mount.. The video camera is amazing though the mount leaves the camera levered out a lot thus causing some movement.. a closer to the helmet mount would result much better video I believe.. First video if a run around the block, trying it out.. http://www.myvstar.ca/sdr-s150/ This is one is on our favourite bike route, the Waverley Road.. at the beginning you can the bike whine and then switch to music as I hadn't muffled the mike yet against the wind.. Smaller frame size so the clarity isn't there but on DVD its decent.. =) http://www.myvstar.ca/waverley-sdr/ More later.. Cheers
13. Hi new guy here and just got a new 08 RSTD blue and black. Got a great deal because it was a leftover. I had a LC 1500 with the Wide Open Custome fairing and wouldn't have gotten anything in the trade so I kept it in hopes of being able to mount it on this bike. Has anybody here done this? Width on the top is perfect. Picture of the old bike. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g51/hunter1500/IMG_0255.jpg Pic of the new bike http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g51/hunter1500/IMG_0279.jpg
14. I am going to purchase a Ram Mount for my 2006 RSTD. Does anyone know if the Cycle Handle Bar Base (RAM-B-309-1U ) will fit the RSTD? It attaches to the brake/clutch handlebar control bracket . http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045066045051048057045049085/Default.aspx
15. I just got a Monster brand iEZclick Ipod remote and it works GREAT. Waterproof and has a thick rubber body with a slot down the back to make it easy to mount. http://tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:gJQhAkZMAe3nNM:http://www.freshpilot.com/wp-content/images/monster_iezclick_ipod.jpg I'm making a bracket that slides into the slot in back and bolts to one of the mounting bolts on the brake cyl on the throttle side of the handlebars. Simply rotate a thumb up and press the button you want. Glove friendly buttons as well. got mine for $18.00 on amazon.com I'm thinking of getting another one to mount one back by the queen seat to give her the ability to change songs.
16. I canceled my XM subscription when I got my Zumo 550 and now just use the MP3 player. I finally got around to taking the mounts off the bike and out of my Jeep. I use to move it back and forth so I have a Roady XT, two mounts, two docking stations, two antennae, and two power cords. I also have the front brake mount and adapter washers and screws if anybody wants the whole set up. Cheapest I see them on E bay new is $65, plus shipping, with one power supply and one antenna.. I don't remember what I paid for the brake reservoir mount. I'll take $50 shipped , in the US, for everything.
17. Wow its big! any sugestions on where to mount the GXM 30. Can this go under the fairing? PZ
18. How to explain this. - - the windshield bolts to a strip of metal running across the inside of the fairing. This strip of metal is mounted on each end with a plastic ear to the inside of the fairing and at the center with a bolt to a raised mount. Both ears are broken - only thing holding it is the center bolt. It's a '05 so the warranty covers it but, in two weeks is a trip up to VA and back. (Blue Ridge and Skyline) Don't think there's time for the dealer to handle it. What about two small angle brackets in place of the ears. Any reason it wouldn't work??? Don't know how much trouble it will be to grind the ears off and mount the brackets. Any thoughts anyone???
19. Hey guys and gals....i installed a "stebel airhorn" this weekend...heres a pic,can anyone tell me a better place to mount it. It looks kind of awkward protruding from the frame.
20. Does anyone have pics of the mount needed to mount my 2610 on my 2009 RSV.Also a link to where to purchase said mount would be great. TIA
21. I've been loooking @ a GPS and would like to have on. The ones for cycles are high $$. Anyone ever mount one that is not water proof,I would lik to use it in my vehicle too. I know I would be taking risk of it getting wet, but is the extra $$ worth it. My Venture has a cig plug right by where I would mount it, I know I would have to have a handle bar mount, but that could stay on bike all the time. Any in-put would help before I lay out $$ for one. Thanxs! Ride safe!
22. Does anyone have one they'd like to sell. A friend of mine has a set of lights he'll give me, but I'd rather not pay $150 for the mount if someone has a used one they'll sell.
23. OK... I ordered a Garmin 2720 Last night along with the Ram mount and the Motorcycle mount kit. My Next question is... MUSIC... What is the best and most reasonable cost for a music storage device? MP3... I POD... Etc. I know Nothing about these devices... so please feel free to educate me as well. Last question... Once i have all these in my hands .... Will I need anything special to make it all work on the RSV. Thank you Reaney in NH
24. Any body know where to get rack mount flag poles that do not cost an arm and a leg??? J&P wants $89.00 Thats alot of $$$ for what you get.. I just Joined the Patriot Guard, and really need some way to mount some flags..
25. Anyone do a permanent mount for a power socket using the auxiliary connection under the seat on the RSTD? Would like to mount close to the seat using a bracket. Any suggestions appreciated!
