    bike is together

well i got the u joint back in and the bike is on 2 wheels and the kick stand this morning, take it to work for the test run:301:
  2. I was cleaning the contacts for the front brake stop light switch and when I put it back together and gave it a test, the cover wasn't on tightly and the spring popped it off! I have been looking at a parts diagram but I can't find the part number anywhere, or even see it on a diagram! I'll have to go to the stealership in the morning to see if I can order one, but I find they can be a little slack when it comes to searching for things like this. Anyone have a clue? Thanks
  3. I asked the previous owner. He isn't sure whether the battery has been replaced or not. If not, it is 9 yrs old and I have been having battery issues. The 3 nights I put it on the battery tender. When I went to check on it the next morning, it was still red. Just before I left to go to work it turned green. That is 12+ hrs it needed to charge the battery. W/ my previous bike, it was a couple hours and it was charged on a 5 yr old battery. 2 nights ago, I put it on the charger and it was green by the morning. Last night, I put it on the charger and still red this morning. So assumming it is the original battery, I rode in this morning and was pretty much dying just before I pulled into the parking spot. Dealer said battery prices just went up. Quoted me $145. Online OEM says around $101. Does anyone know of any alternates? Can you pick up the same battery at places like Autozone? Thanks. Jerry
  4. Trip to Squidly is all set up. Will catch a flight at 6AM in the morning to Detroit, spend the night at the Squids and leave early Thur. morning on my way home with a 1st gen. The plan is to go down I-75 to Knoxville Tn and on to Asheville, hope to be there early Thur. evening to visit with the rally crew, for a night and then home frid. morning. Don't know were I am staying Thur. night yet. If anyone is going that day in this direction call and maybe we can meet up. My # is 985-516-1308. Roadkill I sent you a PM and it is still unread.
  5. I have a new gasket that I don't need due to my bike having a new owner. If anyone needs one, let me know and I will mail it to you. If I have time, I will send it before I go on my elopement. We will be leaving for Hot Springs early Wed. morning and will not be back until Sunday. If I don't get it to you before I leave, I will see you get it next week. Please double check the part number to make sure it is the one you need. Thanks.
  6. Vicki and I flew to Las Vegas at the end of March to celebrate her 50th. We had some problems with the Air Canada flight leaving Toronto - it left, it came back, it was supposed to leave again, it was cancelled, it eventually went out the next morning. So, I wrote to our good buddies at AC and asked them to compensate us for: ·one night's hotel stay in Veags (I had pre-booked and pre-paid), ·breakfast (Tim's at TorontoAirport would not accept the AC voucher) and ·one night of parking at TorontoAirport). Anywho ... finally (a couple of months later) I get a response back from my good buddy (budette?), a certain T Wylie at AC Customer relations. It's basically a "too bad-so sad-but you're SOL" letter, where s/he tells me that they have already compensated me - on the rescheduled flight we received a letter - en francais, even - allowing us the pleasure of taking $75 off their nearly-exhorbitant regular fees whenever we felt like it ... and oh yeah ... please submit your original parking and meals receipts so that we can "consider" whether or not to reimburse you. So, this morning, I thought I'd have some fun with my good friend T. Wylie - here's the letter that I sent him/her back:

    Locking Device

Would appreciate some feedback on what VR's do to secure their scoots when overnighting on a ride. Do you use disc locks, cable locks, ordinary padlocks, etc. and if so, any particular brands that are better or worse than others? Not too concerned about price, I just want something that is not too bulky and will ensure I've got a bike to ride in the morning!! Thanks for your feedback.
  8. It has been a bad weekend in this area. The first accident happened at 2am Sunday morning when a 30 yr old rider drove into the back of police cruiser at a high rate of speed totally destroying the bike and also totaled the cruiser. The second was on Sunday evening when a 21 yr old girl pulled out of a driveway and onto the highway, the Harley driven by a 55 yr old man tried an evasive maneuver but hit the car in the drivers door sending him through the air, he passed away from his injuries this morning. I guess you have to be ever vigilant of your surroundings, but you can't control what other people do, I'm sure everyone becomes more cautious when something like this happens. Ride safe everyone. Condolences to their families.
  9. Just sharing a few more Central Australia shots with you. Don't you just love the colours of the outback. Might entice a few more of you to "come on down." I'd love to do the trip again - this time on the RSV. Need riding companions though. #1 - me and my bride at The Olgas. #2 - me at Uluru at sunset. #3 - Uluru next morning from the opposite side. #4 - my bride sitting on the rim of Kings Canyon.
  10. Well my stay in Florida has come to an end. We are leaving about 5am Wed. morning. Gonna take the tollroad from Boynton Beach to I-75 into Georgia then jumping on I-24 in TN and into Ky and making a stop in Morganfield to see some family then on to St. Louis then Kansas City then hopping on I-29 into Iowa and into Nebraska on I-80 then to Cheyenne and home to Ft. Collins, Colorado. We have decided that after the wifey has her hip replacement on the 21st and gets all healed up that we are moving to FL to live near her family. Wifey gets the stent out of her kidney on Tuesday...what a road warrior she is. I have posted a few pics at www.tattootate.50megs.com under the "Florida Trip" link and will post more when I get home.
  11. How much air should I have in my rear shock for riding 2 up and loaded for bear.We are leaving for Kitchener Friday morning about 9am.I now have 14.5lbs in the rear. Bucky:thumbsup:
  12. trying to think of a saturday trip. maybe 300 miles or so. we are covered with water in the st. charles area that i like to ride. anyone around here got some ideas and want to ride with me. the bus wiil probably leave about 5:30 am in the morning. bill
  13. Got up fairly early this morning. A member from Norwalk, OH had called yesterday asking if I could help him sync his carbs and I said sure, come on by. So he was here about 10:00 this morning and we got the carbs synced. Then of course the yard needed mowing so I spent about 4 or 5 hours doing that. Absolutely beautiful day. So I finished the yard and came in the house to change clothes and take a little ride and no sooner had I gotten ready than one HECK of a thunderstorm rolled in. Checked the weather and they were warning of hail and winds up to 60 MPH. So much for riding. Most of it has blown through now but it's still raining. Small tree limbs all over the place but nothing major. Oh well....maybe tomorrow.
  14. Spent yesterday in the Emergency Ward with a very bloated stomach and having a very hard time breathing. My esophagus was, and still is inflamed and still hurts to breathe. My stomach was so bloated that it pushed my diaphragm way into my lungs and colapsed the lower lobes. CAT scan also revealed that I have a very large bladder (2 liter) and an enlarged prostate. Large bladder is normal for me, but now I'm going to have to have the prostate thing investigated. Anyway, we didn't get home until 2 in the morning, and we went to the ER 2 in the afternoon. I'm feeling better but not up to par yet. This is a heck of a way to make sure I stay off my feet so much and give my foot a chance to heal...
  15. the new wing is finally fully decked out. put the eutopia back rest on this morning and my edsets. going to test everything in the morning. had to stop on the chrome because it was getting close to the point of being gaudy. just a couple of small touches left. there is just to much available for wings. getting to be like harleys, and the stuff is cheap. i love it. cheapest i ever got off on decking out a bike. i'm going on a flood check ride in the morning. if anyone wants to go along your welcome. the bus leaves at 5:30 am. will probably head up the west side of the mississippi to check on the small towns where the levy broke. wish i was younger so i could help sand bag , but would get in their way now. maybe there is something i could do to help. just have to see whats going on. just can't imagine what it feels like to lose everything you have. bill
  16. Ok, 'fess up! Who owns the White RSV parked outside the Dalton, GA courthouse this morning? You've been spotted! (Nice machine, BTW).
  17. Well this morning I got everything ready for my 60 mile commute to work, fired the bike up everything fine. Rolled it back out of the garage and as I turned the front wheel to the left to get around the wife's SUV the lights ALL went out. No headlight, running lights or dash lights. Engine still running, radio playing too. My first thought is a blown fuse due to a short caused by a crimp in the lighting wires from when I put the driving light spacer in before I left for Don's. Everything worked great all weekend, but I'm thinking it must have cut through the wires because of the hard crank to the left to get it out this morning. Does this sound like a reasonable place to start? Any other ideas? Thanks, Jay
  18. Hey everyone, Well...the trip went as planned. Left kankakee illinois on sunday morning. Had a wonderful ride down to Batesville Miss. Shortly after we stopped, a torrential storm rolled through( couldn't see across the parking lot!). By Monday morning it was clear and sunny.....sooo...off we went. Stopped by Biloxi Miss. found the Air Force Base & apartment that we lived in during avionics school(not as nice now!) then visited a friend we haven't seen in 18 years!!!left the next morning,on our way to Pensicola beach and Gulf Breeze... we met up with Glen, a member on this board who gave us valuable local info as well as general good stories of travels and experiences. A very nice guy!! Glad we got to meet up with Glen!!!Stopped for the night in clearview Florida. Next day made it to Columbia South Carolina(hot as he..) 99 deg heat index at 5:00pm!! almost melted! Thursday was the BEST ride of the trip....North Carolina,Virginia & stopping to visit more military friends in Beckley Wesy Virginia...BEAUTIFUL scenery, absolutely breath-taking!!!Stayed there all day Friday. Left Beckly West Virginia on Saturday morning, came up on the south side of Indianapolis just AFTER the storm hit. I65 & rt 31 were closed due to flooding!! Had to re-route over to I74 And catch I65 in Indy. Took us 12 hours to get home Saturday...but we made it safe & sound. Thought you'd all like to know. We had a great time ...the bike was awsome(except for my tailbone) and the wife has already started planning next year's trip!!!! Thanks again to Glenn for the "tunnel info" and the Cokes!!
  19. Yammer home and going to bed. Had great time at Maint day. Got to see people again. No sleep since Friday morning!!! GOOD NIGHT!!!
  20. We've completed our second day of travels on the way to Utah. Myself and 6 other riders. We ran into a little rain just west of St. Louis yesterday. Just enough to put the suits on and then it stopped. After a stop in Blue Springs, MO last night we left early this morning and made it to Burlington, CO. The wind this morning and early afternoon was brutal. I had ridden in windy condition before, I thought, but they were just gentle breezes compared to today. It's odd to be following a bike pulling a trailer and seeing the trailer run straight with the pavement but the tow bike is angled into the wind about 5 degress. I was pushed out of my lane by the wind more than once. The last couple of hours the wind subsided and the temps dropped to about 80 and it was a very pleasant finish to the day. Tomorrow we'll make it to Grand Junction where we meet up with our wives. Dennis
  21. LA rolled in about 11:30 this morning and we have been swapping lies all day. He has requested Spiderman sheets so the bed is made:cool10: and he is good to go! We'll be heading out after daylight. See you all at MD!.
  22. :cool10:OH Happy Day! My youngest son finally landed a full time job a year and a half after he finished school. His degree is in physics and this job is right up that alley. He will be doing some kind of lab work. Yesterday he had his third interview with them and they called back in the afternoon to see if he could start this morning. He was up with the chickens bright eyed and bushy tailed at 7:30 (that's real early for him...LOL) and off to work with lunch in hand at 8:00. I told him he had bankers hours. Sure hope this works out for him. Mom would have been so proud. http://www.protoxrd.com/aboutproto.htm
  23. Well living out here in Colorado, I don,t seem to have the opportunity to meet very many members, but today was my lucky day! I saw a thread by Wild Hair 39 talking about visiting Denver, so I let him know if he needed anything while here I would be willing to help. He did'nt need anything, but we did meet for Coffee this morning, What a Blast. Not good enough. While we were at coffee DNBoll was looking at Ventureriders and saw Wild Hair's thread and gave him a call. We were at coffee, so we invited him over and sure enough he droped in, COOL. So I got to meet 2 members, what a great time we had. Gene-b
  24. Just a note to let you all know that I am getting ready to do a final backup of the site. Any messages posted from the time that I do the backup until we go live with the new server, hopefully early tomorrow morning, will be lost. So if you have anything important to say or ask, you might want to wait until tomorrow.
  25. Just wondering if everyone in the western part of NC is ok. Had a few tornadoes out that way last night. Hope everyone is good, didn't look so great on the news this morning in Greensboro. Margaret
