  1. Today must be the day for kid braggin'. Things have been busy around here lately. Three of the newest additions to the GGK section. They were all born within 5 months of each other. All the mom's and dad's... plus one aunt... are our Grandkids...
  2. So as some of you may know I am exiled to the state of Tennessee, Chattanooga to be exact, while my daughter attends college near by. Pretty damn good gig actually! Yesterday my riding buddy and I left Chattanooga heading in the general direction of the Grand Ole Opry Hotel/Convention center in Nashville with only one goal in mind, TO GET LOST! Well we managed to get lost while trying to get lost! What a ride, what a day! Again what was suppose to be about a two hour ride or so turned into an all day excursion with us, again, returning after dark. For those of you that don't know Tennessee has mountains, Tennessee, has curves, Tennessee has scenery! I find myself falling in Love with this state. The icing on the cake is that the people are mostly down to earth and friendly to, even to this transplanted Aggie! Destin, FL will always be my favorite place in the world but if it wasn't for the fact that funny white stuff falls outta the sky during the winter and that the beach is over 400 miles away it would become my permanent home. I might have to Summer here 3 months outta the year and Destin the other 3 months with 6 months of traveling, the long way, back and forth. Hmnn might have to find a rich girlfriend!!
  3. ***SIGH*** I'm afraid I've gotten used to the retired lifestyle!! Oh well, only 1 year 4 months to go...
  4. How do y'all feel the natural and economic crisis in Japan will affect the bike market in the the coming weeks and months?
  5. Where's a good place to purchase a valve shim kit for a 2nd gen? Prices? extra shims? Thinking about doing mine in the next few months.
  6. living here in frozen Arctic circle of Iowa (yeah, it's 32 below 0 ...again).... I start to suffer from brain freeze. It's a terrible disease and happens every year around the end of Feb. It's dark at 5:00, cold, blizzardy, windy, etc, etc. Honest to gosh.....everyone walks around here in a daze for months on end. Nothing to do, nowhere to go, tired all the time, it's miserable. Please don't tell me to move cuz all the family lives within 20 minutes and I would miss them to much. So..............anyway, just wanted to thank you for helping me keep my sense of humor. No computer at home, so the only time I can jump on is during work. Everyday, someone posts something so funny, I end up spitting my coffee out while I'm reading a post. I start laughing so hard, my co worker think I've lost my marbles. All I do is talk, eat, and sleep motorcycles. (I'm sure people where we live think we're nuts) I just really appreciate having this forum so even if the hubby and I can't ride for 6 months out of the year, it helps just to talk about it. So thanks for helping me keep my sanity!
  7. I have not been able to ride in about 12 months, But I would go out and start the bike up at lease once every 2 weeks. Well this week I went to start it this week after about 3 months and I had to replace the battery, I drained the old fuel out. I have fire and gas but it will not start. It acts like it wants to with the choke on but will not start.
  8. Well I guess I am going to take a beating on this bike. They have change the stater, rectifier regulator, and said they have check everything and now they say its time to start look at the wiring. This bike has left me on the side of the road 3 times with a bad battery. Now I will never trust this bike out on the road. so here I am a bike that has 1400 miles on it that is 3 months old that I do not want to ride. i at the end of the road I Gauss I will have to trade it in and hope to get something out of it. this may be it for me no more riding.
  9. I had an accident and broke my ankle at the end of July and some buddies from my bike club went and picked my bike up in Quebec and brought it home for me the next day (about a 260km trip). That was on August 2nd. Since then the bike sat in a friends garage and today he went to take it back to my place for storage but the battery was completely dead. At first he thought it was because I had my GPS charger plugged in the accessory outlet, but that outlet is switched. Then I read the owners manual and saw the note about pulling the battery if the bike will sit for more then a month. Is it normal for the Venture to drain a battery so fast? My last bike, a Honda Shadow, could sit for 4 months in minus 20 and below winters and it would fire up in the spring no problem. Seems kinda weird for a bike for go completely flat in just 2 months. Especially since the bike is almost brand new (9 months old). Anyhow, it's on the way home now and first thing I will be doing before I winterize it, is make a small harness up so I can hook my tender up with the battery still installed. On long rips, i might start carrying some jumper cables as well.
  10. For the past two years I've been looking at the RSV and waiting for the right bike to come along. Two and a half weeks ago (July 20th) I came across a 2009 RSV with only 2500km (have added 1300km since). Original owner had it 4 months. My background is that I got my M license in 1990 (first bike was an '81 KZ305 which I put 20,000km on, second bike which I still have is a 1999 Virago 1100 which I've put 54,000km on). I'm still getting used to the RSV so thinking 2011 I'll do a Canada East Coast trip and plan the big trip for 2012. The "dream ride" is from Kitchener (60 miles west of Toronto) to Chicago to pick up Rt 66 and follow it to California (2 weeks). From there, Pacific Coast highway up to Vancouver (1 week), and then across Canada (1 week) to home. Not looking to do straight milage as this will be a 2-up trip and will be sight seeing along the way. Might extend it to 5 weeks once I lay out the final plans. What I'm wondering is .... when is the best time of the year to do this trip? Being in Canada and wanting to avoid leaving or returning when there is snow on the ground.... my window is basically May - Oct. Considering that I'd be following what used to be Rt 66 and going thru Texas/Arizona and how hot it can be during July/Aug.... when are the best months to go thru these States to avoid the hottest/wettest months?
  11. I have heard from the triwing trikers about their gas mileage. My 07 hannigan trike is gettig around 30 miles to the gallon riding 60 mph. Some say I should be getting better.I had the carbs syn at a dealer about two months ago.The bike has just got 1400 miles on it.I want to know what you guys think.
  12. Debating wheter to sell the 86 or strip and sell parts on ebay.Decisions,decisions.The 84 will be stripped in a couple months.
  13. Greetings! I've noticed in the past few months that the front end of my '99 RSV has started dipping really far in the front whenever I stop. When I sit on the bike and push down on the handlebars I get almost no resistance and a lot more travel than it seem I should on the front shocks. I put 7lbs of air in the front shocks over 9 months ago, and just checked the pressure... still 7lbs. So, I assume by that there are no leaks. I did put on 15lbs of weight, but I hope I don't have to get on the treadmill to keep the front end from diving every time I stop. Any ideas?
  14. any suggestions on places to winter in the south from the Mississippi west? Wife doesn`t like humidity so Texas is questionable...looking for something like a park model trailer to rent for a couple of months in a safe location, smaller cities are better than large, good riding roads a must:301:
  15. Dianne. got a better job offer. in her mothers state of north dakota. she took off for a couple of months to see if she will like it up there. it breaks my heart. but i understand. she,s not my girlfriend just a verry verry best female friend. we still keep in touch. she cried so much i thought i would have a swimming pool in my kitchen. i explained to her by saying Dianne your like my second daughter. we have become a family. your in my daughters wedding. and your allways in this familys heart. from Amber (my daughter) right down to my heart. and like a daughter all your second father would want is for his daughter to be happy. she wont be far from minnesota and Amber can visit her. i can as well. when im healed up better. i will miss her smile our coffee meetings and things we did. her home is still here untill it sells. but she will be close to her mother. and old school friends. i pray it all works out for her. but she will be missed by all of us her in good old Illinois at least this oldgoat will:backinmyday:
  16. So my 88 VR will be parted and sold to the best of my ability, as posted in the aftermarket TCI thread... It has a lot of chrome parts and extras on it. I was thinking about hosting a 1 day pick'n-pull for anyone who wants to come and 'vulture' it. this way the buyer can assist in removing the part as to not allow me to cause any damage attempting to remove it. If anything good is left I'll sell on ebay for what I can get it for or on this forum and scrap the rest. Don't want to spend the next 6 months on ebay.. Parts will still be sold indiviually but I'm hoping everyone will be fair about prices. I'm not looking to get rich by any means, just put a fraction of the $2k back in my savings... Of course, this could be a completely bad idea... Any thoughts?
  17. my daughter informed my wife and i that we are going to be grandparents, as she is 3 months pregnant. does that make me a "Grand Mother" now?
  18. For all you wonderful people who are trying to get us to the U.S.A. for MD 2011....I would like to share with you the dream I have had for years', and how we planned to achieve it. The Dream: To ship the bike over, purchase a trailer for gear, and do a riding tour of the U.S. for three months. Changed to: When the insurance claim comes through we would ship the trike, which is kitted out for my bad leg (and do the tour) Purchase a trailer to carry our gear, and my wheelchair....then donate it to VentureRiders.org. when we left. VR.org: Our VR family are now trying to get us to MD for 2011. So we are hoping we might combine the two efforts! *** My solicitor has told us she will be presenting everything for claim around September? So, hopefully by the time we would be due to leave for the states the claim would have been settled (6/7 months) and we could contribute and re-pay everyone's generosity. We then talked about hiring a trike over there, instead of a vehicle. As long as the engine doesn't stick out at the side too much!! no room for leg and I could fit highway pegs to it we thought that it would be more fun. So Bryan 52577....we like your thinking Mini Muffin....... GOD BLESS you for caring so much VR.org........ Luv Ya
  19. My son and his wife just had a new Baby boy. his name is Micheal Luke. He came in 1 & 1/2 months early at 5 lbs 6 ozs. Meet my new grandson
  20. I was wondering if there are any members awaiting black sludge in their backyards? I feel a little stupid, I did not realize once you "pierce" into one of these gas or oil deposits you had to suck it dry or else as soon as you pull the drill out the whole mess comes pouring out. And now their saying 3 months to stop the flow of 5000 barrels per day?! This will become world altering if it is not fixed ... IMHO
  21. Hey guys, I've been looking for a link telling about a young girl on the back of a GSXR 750 that fell off and stayed in thew hospital for several months. This was posted within the last week. Can any of you give me the link? I can't seem to find it.
  22. Our weather over the past couple months has been nothing short of CRAPPY! http://www.theprovince.com/Weather+woes+Grim+news+starved+Lower+Mainland/3105672/story.html I got more riding days in during Feb and early March than I have since. Couple days in April and another day or two in May but for the most part, it's been considerably cooler than normal and almost always cloudy and rainy. Saw the sun for a little bit last evening and again this morning. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were almost a constant drizzle. It's really getting depressing! Can you imagine having to wear a winter coat or a warm jacket and a hat for 7 month's straight with maybe 1 or 2 days where it's warm enuf to shed them for a few hours? I think I will feel naked when I can come to work without wearing a jacket! LOL
  23. Ruffy - I've only had the wind wings for 6 months or so, hard to believe it took so long to get them mounted.
  24. Overall good report from the doctor today....Have been having a lot of pain in my right hand and it's from the inflammation in the ligaments in my hand from overuse (if you could only use 1 hand, how do you NOT overuse it?)... All the bones are healing nicely and correctly.... Been having some dizziness (thought it was from the meds) but looks like I could have a concussion, will follow up with a neurologist on that one. This would make concussion #2 in the past eight months which really scares me, especially if I were to take another fall and smack my head.... I will be out of work for a couple more weeks while I am on the mend. Thanks for all the continued thoughts and prayers! Ride safe and watch out for texting teenagers!!! Ben
  25. The Garmin Nuvi 750 is on sale at tigerdirect.ca for 149.97 cdn i thought it looked like a good price for a GPS with all the features. It is a refurb, but my current unit is a refurb purchased about 30 months ago and I think it still comes with a 1 yr warranty from Garmin. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4550952&Sku=G145-0198 Brian
