  1. Saw this one on Ebay this morning. It's only 70 miles from me in Napa if someone needs it checked out. There's not too many left in this condition. VENTURE ROYALE
  2. If you're interested, the bid closes in a few hours. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150412686108&viewitem=
  3. Picture taken in Asheville 2009 - at BBQ place So put a name to the folks please! Start front row left to right then back row. Thanks all, Steve
  4. This morning as I left Golden Coral I put my helment and gloves on got on the bike and left ( without letting the bike warm up) got to the exit and a car was turning in so I move close to the curb to make sure they had pleanty of room. I stopped and put my feet down turn the handle bars to the right, started to take off and the engine died. With the laws of physics as they are the bike started falling to the right. I put my foot down to step off the bike, but the curb caught my foot and the bike fell on my ankle and broke it in three places. Man do I feel like a dummy. Should have let the warm up before I tried to ride it. Now I'm paying the price. Spent 7 1/2 hours in emergency room. tew47:thumbdown:
  5. My friend David Bean hit a deer Sunday evening on the way to work, He was not injured but his Goldwing was not so lucky, David was a member here but dropped out when he sold his Venture. The deer was a hundred feet from the inpact point and the bike traveled another 200 ft. He went off the road into a muddy ditch which stopped him and the bike fell over, tupperware is shattered, parts missing, left crash bar and radiator bent up, frount forks bents. He went on to work, In the ER he an RN in the er. Left the bike on its side in the ditch, I got off work Monday morning from the ICU and met him there and we fished her out, damage lokks bad, and worst of all he thought he had full coverage insurance and only had liability was an 88 model. 6. Check this out is this the same engine as the RSV, RSTD 2008 left over what should I offer? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-V-Star-XVZ13-2008-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Tour-Deluxe-S-XVZ13-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ120524008647QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_motorcycles?hash=item1c0fca6cc7 Thanks for any input. :)
  7. You know....sometimes in life you are the bug and other times you are the windshield. I honestly feel like the bug right now. We had a nice Christmas in spite of some aches and pains though. First of all, Christmas Eve morning I started coming down with a rather nasty cold. Sore throat, head all stopped up so I felt like I was in a drum when I talked, etc. Nothing too terrible but certainly not feeling 100%. Then by later Christmas Eve, my body decided that it was due for a flareup of my Gout. Now those of you who truly have Gout know exactly what it does to you. I usually get it a couple of times a year in my left toes and ankle but this time, it hit full strength in both feet...toes, ankles, etc. It darn near crippled me to the point that I could barely get out of bed and get down the stairs on Christmas morning but I finally managed to make it. Took some pain pills and within a couple of hours, I was pretty much functional again but with the gout and the cold I just wasn't feeling my best. The day progressed nicely enough. Watched my son open his gifts, had a nice fire going in the fireplace, coffee for Eileen and I and hot chocolate for Dylan. Just a very nice quite family time. Later in the day my brother in law came over and also Tony who is my wife's nephew accompanied by his finance and her two children. Had a very nice time and then later a fantastic Christmas dinner. After dinner we all pitched in and cleaned up a bit. The refrigerator was so full that I decided to take the ham into the garage and put it on top of the freezer over night as it was plenty cold in the garage to store it there. Well, over the past few months I have progressively approached total blindness in my right eye. I'm slowly adjusting to it but am just not there yet. I guess it was a combination of being a bit crippled from the Gout and my depth perception still being off from the loss of site in my eye but when I stepped out of the kitchen into the garage, I completely missed the top step. There is a three stop drop from the kitchen to the concrete garage floor and there I was in a free fall of about 3 ft. while holding a nice large Pyrex platter with a ham in it in my hands. As I fell, I managed to twist around so that the Pyrex platter would not hit the concrete floor and was successful. I managed to hold onto the platter and keep it from hitting the floor and shattering and thus saved the dish and the ham. The only problem is that in doing so, I successfully twisted both of my already hurting ankles and also found that using your left knee, left elbow and HEAD to cushion a 3 ft. fall off a set of steps is not necessarily the best course of action. So....I am now laying here on the couch after managing to slowly ease down the stairs this morning. I am nursing two sprained ankles, a twisted left knee, a sprained left elbow, rash on my left knee and left elbow, a knot on my head and I STILL have this danged cold. Otherwise, life is good. I hope that you all have a fun but SAFE New Years day. I think I'm going to just wrap myself in bubble wrap and hole up here until spring.
  8. There is a black plastic piece on the outside where it tells you to hook a hose. Supposedly this puts the hose up in the bike somewhere so as to pull the air in. Did you all leave this on and hook the hose up? If so, how does it look? Also looks like you would hit this with your foot and knock it off. I have left it off for now.
  9. Just wanted to reminder everyone that there is still one week left to get your 50/50 tickets for the January drawing.. And remember the proceeds go to the 2010 International Rally Fund or my retirement. Which ever comes first. And I still have lots of trailer raffle tickets left....
  10. In another effort to find out why she ('83 VR) is running like crap, I was looking at some of the carb sync threads and was trying to locate all applicable parts on the carbs. Instead of a "plug" on the #2 (?) cylinder (left front) I noticed there is a vacuum line on there. This used to run to a cannister above the plastic heat shield on the rear cylinders and from there to ???? The cannister had a big hole melted into it following a exhaust leak and I never traced the outgoing vac line down. I did not see "vacuum line" mentioned anywhere, so is this thing on all bikes? i.e. does it matter/is it important? Am I correct in assuming that I should be OK to cap this tube altogether? Is it safe to say that if my plugs are all a light gray and the exhaust pipes all get hot my coils are good? Same question for the CTI? (which I have not found yet!) There is (a lot of) road grime on the left front carb towards the airbox and the left rear carb appears to be "wet" as well, any idea where this may be coming from? I seem to remember some/ several saying to pull the YICS chamber, don't remember why, if I do, do I plug the hoses or cross connect them and in which way? Well that ought to get me started I think. Thanks in advance! edit: should probably add that I could smell fuel while checking around
  11. I don't think I've ever seen this question asked. I'm curious because it was time to replace Eileen's car and we looked at a lot of vehicles trying to decide what to buy this time. I pretty much left it up to her but it got me wondering what the rest of you here drive. So....what are you driving and are you happy with it?
  12. I know everyone says "Your lucky, you have a job", but working 60 hours a week sucks, and if we dont work it we are subject to being laid off in the next round, when I started working there, there were 12 fabricators working in the shop, now we are down to 8, we did have as many as 16, and rumor has it 3 more lay offs coming by Feb. 1. They took away our Christmas bonus, small as it was, they took away our safety bonus, upped our ins. premiums, increased our deductibles and out of pocket expenses on the medical ins., waiting for them to stop or at least reduce our 401k match, all we have left is our gainsharing bonus and I am sure that will be elimanated soon. I am so glad I only have 1 year 8 months left before retirement from this place. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the wage freeze.......!!!!!!! Last one lasted 3 years!!!!! I am so lucky to have this job.
  13. Does anyone have experience with rear shock being covered under warranty for the groan? Mine just started this and I have about two mos. left of coverage. Thanks, Ebabe
  14. While I was working on my light bar adapter and wiring tonight, I noticed that my left signal light is acting wonky.. You know how the signal lights will blink fast when you have a dead bulb? Well, what happens with mine is that the signal light will work..... and then start going fast.. I tried the 4 way flashers and no worries there at all... but when ever I select the left signal light and leave it alone, not touching the bike at all.. it will eventually start flashing fast... I changed the bulb, pulled and tugged and pushed against all the wiring in that area and nothing shows up.. it will work fine.. then later when I engage the left signal light it most likely will do the fast flash.. Front and rear bulbs are working properly.. Is there something else I should look at? Flasher relay perhaps? Fun fun fun!!
  15. Hey David any of these quotes look familiar? I say, make her bring it! After that water thing its the least she can Do! This one is my favorite: Don, I'm gonna make sure that Mini brings you a pie at Maint Day. (since Jeff left me in charge) Are you sure you want to brag about being left in charge of me? You could get the blame for anything I do. Muffin said you need to wear the pink chaps if you're in charge. For some reason he thinks I'll listen to you then. Oh and just wait till saturday. Margaret
  16. I bought my 2nd Venture a 2004 Midnight 9000 miles low low price repo. It sat, my guess 6-9 months. The day of purchase I drove it from D.C. to Kansas City on a wing and a prayer. I notice its gas mileage is below average ... about 33 mpg not 38-40 like my old 99. Runs fairly good but the carbs on the left leaked when stopped. Get it home and start seafoam, no good. I know the floats are sticking. I sync the carbs which were way off, smoother but not by much, still krappy MPG. I aint up to a carb rebuild, so I take it to the shop, and shop rejets, the jets were green with corrosion, but he puts in the next larger pilot jet....which I didn't want. He said the floats were not sticking. The bike now backfires like popcorn. He readjusts the settings and the bike runs great, not as fast as the 99, but very good. Backfire constantly. I tighten all the exhaust bolts I can, the bottom front bolts are impossible with removing a pack of stuff. Backfire much better now. Gas milege sucks!!! 28 MPG. Back again to mechanic he says he changed the pilot back to stock. The next day the carb is leaking on the left side ahhggggg!!!! Back again to the mechanic, each visit of course costs more, up to 3 bills now. So now he is replacing the float needles, I wish I worked on this higher level stuff and had more knowledge. The mechanic's a great guy but these repeat trips are the norm not the exception in my experience. The worst part is I may get it back less than right again. The guy is an independent, the local Yamaha dealer's service is so horribly bad it makes this guy look highly competent in comparison. The Honda dealer has teenagers for mechanics, so you can guess how they do. If I had a Harley I would have many good service options available around here, but they shun metric. Opinions please http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon.com/wtf-pics-tiger-man.jpg Yamaha certified mechanic on break in St Joseph Mo 4300
  17. double whammy here! First, my '83 is not tracking straight when I let go of the handlebars. I recall from my commuting days that I used to sit on the back seat of the Virago with the thumb lock on and my hands in my pockets and ride for miles going down I20. My VR ('83) won't do that, she falls away to the left. What would cause this? Warped frame, tire out of balance, left side of my rear too big??? And after that of course, how do you fix it and is it worth the effort? Second and the main reason I bring this up, now that I have a sidecar attached, I am trying to attain neutral steering by adjusting the toe in. In theory I should be able to adjust sidecar toe-in to achieve the rig to be steering neutral, but that might come at the price of increased tire wear. Any suggestions or opinions? Thanks!

    brakepads

Anyone have experience with "buckeye's" Carbone brake pads for a '83 especially compared to the EBC HH pads. Price difference is about $10/set in very round numbers. Buckeye says theirs are sintered pads as well. My current pads (back) are 3/4 gone and the left front is just starting to squeek after 8K miles I am almost sure those were OEM. Thanks!
  19. Well folks as I have posted recently I had my second interview today for the ISO Coordinator position I applied for. SO it is with a heavy heart that I am announcing that I will have to get off the government dole and unemployment ranks and go back to work. The interview was at 1:30 today and I left their offices at 2:55, I went to pick up some small engine parts and by the time I got home at 4:30 I had a phone call to call her back. So I took a deep breath and called her back. She did not answer so I left a message. Then I said to myself.... self don't be a dumb a$$ call the main number and have your new boss paged. I sure am glad I listened to myself. That is when she informed me she was going to offer me the position. I want to thank all of you for your prayers, and thoughts. I just want to make sure the man up stairs knows how lucky I am to have made it this year and the great people that I have come to know here at the forum. I can't honestly tell you in enough words how thankful I am. I was beginning to think this day would never come. This forum has been such a great outlet form...... you will never know. God must have had a deafening roar with all the prayers said over this job. How could he have possible said no. I have to go now .......... I have something in my eye and and need to say a special thank you to someone........... How lucky I am????? Thanks you all again Steve working stiff like the rest of you.
  20. On my way to the eye surgeon to have a lens implant worked on (laser surgery). Have implants in both eyes... cant see too well out of my left eye due to crystilization formed over the left lens...haven't been seeing to good the last several months especially at night...........yikes....ok can't see anything at night any more while driving and during the day its like looking thru waxpaper...given taters some scares over the last riding season and hitting those potholes at night isn't good for thr scoot either....gets costly......... I'm confident all will go good today...if not I'll have to have the lens removed and a new one installed.....scalpuls and eyes give me the willies........Saturday's round will be with my oral surgeon...been having trouble with my gums getting infected and last week had to have more teeth pulled...all was great until two days ago when I got a new infection on the other side of the gums...can't win...by the time I'm done dealing with the entire tuneup this winter I'll be a new man...the good news is that my blood pressure is better and my glucuma is better too...I THINK !!!!! ok time to go...........
  21. I have my passing lamp dealer installed at the time I purchased the bike. I went for a ride last Monday and discovered that my passing lamp (both lights) are no longer working. I checked the fuse box on the left side of the bike and all fuses are ok. All other lights work, rear lights, and turn signals work...except my passing lamps. Where else should I look...do I have to split the fairing (left side)?
  22. I had a little booboo and layed my bike down on the left side. Banged up a little but getting better. Anyway, the insurance payed off and I sold the bike to my brother. He wanted to fix it up. The damage on the bike was mostly cosmetic like windshield and front fairing scratched, left saddle bag cracked etc. The shifter and the footrest did catch a little of the pavement. The bike will run fine in 1st and 2nd, but going into 3rd it cuts out. Could the kick stand switch have anything to do with this. I know the info is a little vague but he would like some ideas before paying a ton of $$$$ to the stealer.
  23. Im looking for an upper fork cover for my 99 RSV. I accidentally dented mine and its driving me nuts, so, if anyone has one thats in good condition for a reasonable price, im interested. Left or right side, its the same part #. Thanks.....
  24. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing this gentleman. All I know is what is in these articles. The accident happend in Flowood, MS, one of the bedroom communities in the greater Jackson, MS area. It says he was riding a Yamaha cruiser and someone turned left in front of him Be careful out there, they ARE out to get you!!!
  25. Just wanted everyone to know I will be part of the VR family for years to come! Can't bring myself to sell my bike, and thanks to everyone here who didn't buy my bike, i'll be able to keep her. I was considering a sale due to possible cuts at the hospital, but hasn't happened yet (started trying to sell in july) and it doesn't matter if it does in the future cause we can cross that bridge when we get there. Took it out for a ride last saturday and it left me stranded at wal-mart, paybacks for not keeping it on the battery tender and not riding it for 2 months. Also noticed that left rear intake boot on carb is leaking fuel. But strangely enough I dont feel frustration or a strong sense of trying to off this thing. Instead I am thinking about sinking some more money into it and liking it!!!!! I think I have just reached that LIFER STATUS:confused24: I love this bike....no turning back for me! Big Mike p.s. Can't wait for Dons next maintenance day!
