    Carb Synk Question

I have stopped by 2 Yamaha Dealers to ask how much they charge to Synk the carbs. The first dealer says its a 30 minute job and will cost $20 TO $40. The second dealer says its a 1 1/2 hour job and will cost $80 to $120 and consist of fine tuning each carb and recommended they install a set of plugs while they have it there. I told them I put a new of plugs in it this spring along with K&N filters. He said the K&N's were a good thing but I definently needed to get the carbs synked since I did that. Am I missing something? Is this a detailed job or and easy job? I want to get it done but don't know who to trust. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  3. Evening all - just a small thing in the greater sceme of things. I stopped by the Ft. Sam Houston cemetary with MochaLady and visited Beer's dad. Thought I would post a picture so we all realize remebering veterans should be a 365 day a year job. Beer- thanks for letting me know he was there. I was able to say a prayer for my own dad at the same time. JB
  4. :cool10:OH Happy Day! My youngest son finally landed a full time job a year and a half after he finished school. His degree is in physics and this job is right up that alley. He will be doing some kind of lab work. Yesterday he had his third interview with them and they called back in the afternoon to see if he could start this morning. He was up with the chickens bright eyed and bushy tailed at 7:30 (that's real early for him...LOL) and off to work with lunch in hand at 8:00. I told him he had bankers hours. Sure hope this works out for him. Mom would have been so proud. http://www.protoxrd.com/aboutproto.htm
  5. I just took the 86 for its maiden run for 08. I had ordered new diaphragms when Cliffno350 offered to group buy them.I installed them and since I was tearing into it anyway I lubed the throttle cables too. What a difference! It took my 86 from a cumbersome, wheel shimmying before stopping, boat handling bike to a smooth, peppy, quick handling fun to ride machine! No kidding, I used to have to take up most of 2 lanes in order to do a u-turn. Now it handles that job with room to spare. It seems to have taken the shimmy before stopping away. YAHOO! Either that or I just didn't feel it as bad what with the smile on my face. All this on last years gas. So far the best improvement on this Yamaha bar none.
  6. Found time to install the rails this morning. Yup, had to redrill the mounting holes in the rail. 30 minute job into several hours. They are now even and set just right. Thank you to the members who posted this needed fix. Yamaha could do much a much better job of quality control. hh http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/0043-1.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t51/runeight/0062.jpg
  7. Someone very near and dear to your hearts.....that would be me:whistling:...LOL Just scored a "job" writing for Thunder Road Magazine. The main focus of my "job" will be to ride around and write about it. Kinda like Rip from EasyRiders. I will keep ya posted
  8. I need recommendation for a good contact cleaner for the large connector going to my 86 venture solenoids. I traced air suspension problems to the connector, tried a head cleaner that seemed to work but the problem came back. I don't think the cleaner did a good enough cleaning job. Does anyone know of a good way to clean those pesky contacts in the connector?
  9. This weekend, finally got the RSTD back on the road. Man, does it feel good to have her back. Ryan, from Paragon Customs did a great job. Check out his website some time. He is one of the truly good guys out there. http://www.paragoncustoms.com/home.html
  10. I have my 87 stripped down so that is look like something out of a mad max movie. Had to take the saddle off, so I thought since it was off do a good detailing job. Any suggestions on how to clean it and whatever. D
  11. from orignal owner never ridden hard or in the rain it has been layed down a few time but cleaned up well afterwards two tone paint job and has never run out of gas he clames its a good ride for around town or getting a gallon of milk
  12. Most everybody Knows Peg & I just bought an 88 GL1500. Well the bike runs real good and the paint is very nice but the trunk sure was not to my liking. Has a name painted on it by the PO calling the bike "Blue on Black. I learned from the Gold Wing site that "Easy Off will remove this name paint so I tired it today and yes it remove the name and did not hurt the paint job neither. So I saved the paint job and saved me some money too. I will try to post some photos later on. my internet will not allow it right now.
  13. I am officially retired.........from my present job that is........at least I think so..... I was sposed to be done 3 weeks ago...........but they keep calling me back......and sucker that I am , I keep helping them out... Dale has finally gotten to the other side of the ford plant where they get all the OT they want......so I got to quit my job !!! he had to go on overnights first so I left the overnights I was doing and was going in at 5:30 am when he got home to cover someone who had surgery........well it turned into 3 weeks instead of 1........it was getting too much for Dale to sleep a lil and then get the young un off to school and then go back to bed...( funny tho that that's what I did when I worked overnights and he had no problems with ME doing it )..so he told me to tell em sunday was my last day !!! Lucked out the lady who was off can come back this week.....but when i said to the manager that I'm finally done she said " well don't say that yet " arrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh ! I don't think they really want to lose me but ...............dang I just haven't had time for here..........:hurts:and most of you know about my lovely job and how much I LOVED it....... retired just in time for spring and summer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Every thing is on hold. I'm not going to do anything until I get around tuit. Every hear that expression? I thought spring was here but every weekend it's more of that white partly cloudy. I have so many jobs backed up it's not funny. I got 19 locust post in the ground with 30 more to go. I should of had that job done by now but it's either rain or snow on the weekends. Seems like nice pretty days through the week and got to go work. We went yesterday in the snow and bought our electric entrance stuff for temp power at the camp over $500. That job is after the fire pit and the fence job. My 86 is still waiting to be parted out but the mud is so deep no way to get it on the center stand much less decent weather to start. Momamo has rose bushes and apple trees waiting in line. I hope retirement is not like this. I bet it would rain or snow 7 days a week. This week the boss said we was up for recertification so spending spare time study for an exam the end of the month. I just put my rocky gortex boots on going down to the camp to walk around and dream of better weather. Sorry guys looking at the clock every 30 minutes is getting old.I drunk a pot of coffee this morning 2:00 am studying for that exam. When this weather does break and I get caught up me and the 84 have some time coming.
  15. AIN'T IT THE TRUTH!!? Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN ) for 6am. While his coffeepot (MADE IN CHINA ) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG ). He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA ), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE ) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA ) After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA ) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO ) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN ) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA ) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY ) filled it with GAS (from Saudi Arabia ) and continued his search for a good paying CANADIAN JOB. At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day checking his Computer (Made In Malaysia ), Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can't find a good paying job in CANADA .
  16. OK folks. I want to thank Crash for handling our caps and shirts for the past 4 years. It is not easy to do with the minimum quantity requirements and etc. but he has done a great job for us and I thank him for all that he has done. He has notified me that due to a new job that he just no longer has the time to do this. I will be looking for a new vendor to handle our caps and thought that I would post here first. I don't know if we have any members who are in the embroidery business or not but if so, here is a GREAT opportunity to work very hard for very little profit and folks, it just don't get no better than that. If you are in the business and wish to discuss it with me, shoot me a PM or an Email. Again, thank you crash for the wonderful job you have done for us.
  17. Going to have to do a clutch job here soon on the 2nd Gen . Trying to decide on the Barnett conversion with OEM fiber disk , or PCW HD Clutch Spring kit with extra friction disk ? Have nearly 30K on the '06 , 8K pulling trailer . I'm starting to fill a little slippage in the clutch when I do a hard acceleration . I can baby it and it's OK for a mild trip . But why take a chance on making the it worse . I heard PCW is cheaper in price to do , but I want better quality (not knowing which is better), so cost is not an issue . I have not done a clutch job in over 30 years , so kinda out of the loop , you might say ! TIA BEER30
  18. was out on my morning coffee run. still dark, approaching my all time favorite stoplight, where i have had several close calls from people running it, like real close.anyway the light turns yellow i stop, then red and a jerk in a van blows by me and runs it. blue flashes all over the place ,scares the hell out of me before i realize he got his picture took. :clap2::clap2:wanted to follow him and tell him, hey idiot, you just got a ticket. some times i just love to see big brother doing his job. :rotf:

    New Job

Just looking in on the Elbo Room in Fort Lauderdale and everyone is in shorts and T shirts, can't wait till spring!! The reason for this note is that we have an international forum here, that being said, I am about to take on a new job with an offshore rig and I was wondering if any of our members may have held a postion on a offshore platform. Being in the navy for some 20 years I am by no means a land lubber but have never worked with the oil industry before. I will be employed in the technical side probably in a overseas position with a hitch of 28 days. I guess you can say that I am kind of a greenhorn when working with the private industry and any info of what to expect would be great. Thanks...

It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida !!! Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB ! The Military morale is high! The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts But Wait There's more! JOHN GLENN (on the Senate floor - January 26, 2004) Some people still don't understand why military personnel do what they do for a living. This exchange between Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one man's explanation of why men and women in the armed services do what they do for a living. http://us.f571.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=3786_69410240_24744_1975_121964_0_29464_193150_1373166385&bodyPart=2.12&YY=98533&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&Idx=2http://us.f571.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=3786_69410240_24744_1975_121964_0_29464_193150_1373166385&bodyPart=2.13&YY=98533&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&Idx=2 This IS a typical, though sad, example of what some who have never served think of the military. S enator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn): "How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?" Senator Glenn (D-Ohio): "I served 23 years in the United StatesMarine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the daily cash receipts to the bank." "I ask you to go with me .. . as I went the other day... to a veteran's hospital and look at those men ... with their mangled bodies . in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job! You go with me to the Space Program at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee... and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a job. http://us.f571.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=3786_69410240_24744_1975_121964_0_29464_193150_1373166385&bodyPart=2.14&YY=98533&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&Idx=2 You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those waving flags. http://us.f571.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=3786_69410240_24744_1975_121964_0_29464_193150_1373166385&bodyPart=2.15&YY=98533&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&Idx=2 You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job? What about you?"For those who don't remember During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney representing the Communist Party in the USA . http://us.f571.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download/us/ShowLetter?box=Inbox&MsgId=3786_69410240_24744_1975_121964_0_29464_193150_1373166385&bodyPart=2.16&YY=98533&y5beta=yes&y5beta=yes&order=down&sort=date&pos=0&Idx=2 Now he's a Senator! If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English thank a Veteran . It might not be a bad idea to keep this circulating. I AM!!! Sorry I couldn't get the pictures to paste. This isn't meant as a political statement, this is a comparison of those who give orders, and those that do the job. Remember, Sunday Nov. 11 is Veterans Day. Please try to thank one. To all the vets out there, THANK YOU. trucker6pak (Joe Besanceney) Sgt.,U.S. Army 2 Nov '83- 22 Jan '92
  23. well this morning i saw my trailer at bush tech. Just to let you know its a nice one but, they wouldn't release the trailer. they said my hitch was not to there likening (safety) i asked them if we could spend a few mins to reinforce it. i told them it dont have to look pretty just to do the job. so i ended up with no trailer. then on the way home my clutch went i made it home almost, with just 70 miles to home plate. so one of my buds rode on home and then came back to get me with a trailer. FUN FUN FUN:draming:
