  1. I keep thinking about picking up some books to read now and again, motorcycle related, and there are so many out there!! From journeys to guides, and everything in between. So let's hear it, what are some of your favorite motorcycle-oriented books, and what category would you put them in? Example: Proficient Motorcycling (training/tips/tricks/etc.)
  2. Thinking of dressing up my ride a bit more and came across the Wizard 7-in-1 programmable light set. Anyone familiar with these? Anyone have any experience with these? Would love to hear something about them before I lay out the cash. Thanks.... http://www.customdynamics.com/wizard_lights_color_changing_led_accent_lights.htm.htm Bluez
  3. My 89 venture has a problem. When my wife and I go for a ride, she can't talk to me or more accurately, I can't hear her when she talks in the headset. We can both hear the radio. I can hear myself speak in my own headset and she can hear me in her's but I cannot hear her in my headset when she talks in her microphone. Now some of you may be saying 'whats the problem' but anything over 15 minutes and no conversation is intolerable to her and we arrive at our destination no matter how pretty the ride with her in a very sullen mood, sorta like your pet cat that is coming in out of a cold hard rain. That is certainly not my idea of a pleasant evening. Sort of spoils the mood, if you know what I mean. Anybody have an idea why this might be happening? Otherwise, I will be riding solo or taking the Toyota. Iowa Guy

    Hobbies

Ok guys and gals- I have been wondering just what kind of hobbies everyone has other than riding bikes and eating. I'm fairly new hear and I probably won't remember, but I thought this would be fun. As for myself, and family bowhunt deer shoot trap camper on river with ski boat guns (buy-sell) shoot pool wife and I both like to read books go to auctions go to flemarkets So lets hear from everyone-maybe you like to work with stained glass or collect butterflys. Let us know.
  5. I just took out the battery and charged it. When I put it back in the radio doesn't play through the front speakers. I can barely hear it from the right rear speaker even up at max vol level. My bike is the 2000 venture mm.
  6. Hi Guys, Bought a Garmin Nuvi 550, I currently have it hooked up with through the audio in/out. I want to be able to "Key" the mic so that when the GPS gives audible directions the "keying" of the mic will let the other riders hear whats being said along with me. When I key the mic now, I can't hear whats being said and nobody else can hear anything...... What am i doing wrong? I know it's possible as I think somebody else has it working from a group ride I was on last year.
  7. It is that time of year again. January is right around the corner, thought it would be fun to hear some new year's resolutions. We could look back in a few months to see who kept them and who lost them. Mine will be fairly easy; To ride more and eat less, To laugh more and worry less, To be more thankful for what I have and less worried about what I don't. Now let's hear yours!!!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR to all my venture family!!!!
  8. Will Rick has come and gone. As always got to meet two wonderful people. Big blue is headed for Canada as I type. We went to dinner and off they went. So here I set no bike a lot of room in the garage what to do, Let me think. I might just have to visit the dealer tomorrow I think I hear a road * calling me.

    SNOW

Up to 6 inches coming in today and tonight.Wife not going to be in a good mood when I tell her in about an hour when she gets up. The weather forecast changed for the worst. I can hear it now What? I'm not driving to work in this. Someone can take me to work and you can come and get me tonight. It's the start of winter routine.
  10. I am thinking of tradeing my 2nd gen trike for a 2nd gen with a sidecar. That way I can take my great pyrenees with me on road trips. I can't seem to get her to feel at ease on the trike and she doesn't want to ride in the trailer she can't hear the tunes back there and she loves music. If you have a sidecar on a 2nd gen and may be intrested in a trade let me know.
  11. I talked to the Stealer this morning about my CB not working. It is an intermittent problem. I can hear everyone else talking...can not transmit. I can hear my passenger talking... she can not hear me. I thought maybe a problem with the headset and Mic, traded mine out for my wife's ...same thing. I am also having another problem with changing radio stations. The bike is an '04 RSV with about 30,000 miles on the clock. I also complained about the cassette door hanging closed. I don't use the cassette player but I do use the Aux jack for Sirius radio and for my MP3 player. Also mentioned that whenever I get the horn wet, either by washing the bike or getting caught in the rain...the horn quits working. The Dealer told me to call him back on Tuesday with the mileage and the se`rial numbers from the bike.... said that he would have to contact Yamaha for warranty info, cuz the warranty has "levels" on the audio equipment. Anyone ever heard of this???? and what can I expect? I thought the warranty was bumper to bumper unlimited milage for 5 years. I feel like he's setting me up to screw me out of some money. Any comments?
  12. I have been looking at heated clothes and talked to one guy that told me year one or something like that sold some that were reasonable but I cant find them anyone hear of them?? I dont want to spend a ton of money just dont want to freeze to death on the bike. Thanks Kevin
  13. First time it's done this... sitting still the radio sounds great, when i start moving i get bad static to the point you can't hear anything but the static. what's that all about?

    Pipes

I was just looking at some of the pics and saw PitBulls 83. Sure did like the pipes on it, was wondering if anyone knew who made them and if they are still on the market. I still have the stock pipes on my 83 and would like to get some I can hear.
  15. i'm sure this has been posted before, but i'll give it a shot any how... as drivers do we only hear the whine or does everyone you pass hear it?:doh:
  16. Before we hit the deer this summer, everytime I would ride with Gary, I could hear this screeching noise every time he'd squeeze the clutch. He's hard of hearing and could never hear it but it was loud enough that it was almost embarrassing coming up to a stop sign in town. Well, after we got the bike out of the shop in July, I didn't notice it. All of the sudden, last night it started again. The only thing I can think of, is we rode in the rain all last weekend. Could have that done it somehow? I'm so tempted to shoot a little wd40 on it, but don't dare. (I'm a weany trying to do things behind his back) Anyway, any suggestions?
  17. Regretably my bike is in the shop, but everytime I get on this thing I can hear myself at a young age saying faster daddy whhile he was pushing the family car hard through the twisties. Inevitably we would have to slow down becouse I would hear my dad say now son you know these curves make your mom sick. Now some 30 years later here I am listening to the two angels talking over my shoulder saying faster dady faster. Only this time I'm the adult and I'm on a bike and not the family car. My only response is now kids, you know your mom is behind us on her bike and she's not ready to go faster in the twisties yet. Now don't get me wrong. I have full knoledge that my kids are in heaven but every now and then I can still hear them. Aint life grand. This goes out to my father, Faster dady faster.I can't be up there yet so maybe you can take them faster, only this time your family car has wings and no wheels. Love to all of you up there. David
  18. Just wondering if anyone out there owns an 09 Venture yet? Was wondering if Yamaha addressed the infamous chirping and whining problem, and if there are any other issues? Anyone hear anything? Thanks
  19. There has been some discussion as to the accuracy of the Morgan Carbtune. Well, I have to say that those accusations are founded. As you can see, I tee'd all four lines to a hand vacuum pump. And this is what I got. Should have been perfect. Doing it "on the bench", I could hear the rods dragging, which of course you can't hear with the engine running. This Carbtune has only been used a few times. Now, I will see if cleaning it makes any difference. But I think a calibration check is in order before any synchronizing.

    Exhaust

This is my first time posting on here. Exhaust question- is louder better or not? I have almost been ran out of the road before because of someone in a car not hearing or seeing my bike. I have noticed when riding in my truck that if a motorcycle with loud exhaust is beside of me then I can hear it before seeing it. If you change exhaust do you have to have the carb. rejetted? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Hairman

    Clutch Noise?

When I let the clutch out from a complete stop I hear a clunk noise that I can't tell if it's coming from the clutch assembly area or the drive shaft area. I don't hear the noise any other time when I'm riding. The clutch isn't slipping and other than the clunk when I start out everything seems fine. The engine has around 39,000 miles on it. Is this a normal noise or do I need to get to the shop?
  22. I was curious of others thoughts. I used to change tires on my old HD and never balanced them. Now that I am getting ready to changes the tires on my TD I question to balance or not to balance. I know there has to be a few of you hear with opinions or suggestions. As always thanks in advance for your input. JOHN
  23. I have a pair of J&M headsets (584s I think). Often times, when I plug in the lower cable, and turn the ignition switch to ON, I get a loud SQUEAL through the IC (no...it's not the wife)! Sometimes I get the squeal if my wife disconnects her lower before I turn the bike off. When cruising, I have to turn the IC up to > 15 in order to hear my wife (don't say it). Three questions: 1) Has / is anyone else expperiencing this annoying squeal? 2) What kinds of things should I check? Could it be an issue with the radio? 3) When I turn up the IC loud enough so I can hear my wife, I hear what appears to be alternator noise. Is this "normal"? Most times, the IC volume has to be 18 in order to be able to have a conversation. Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  24. Sorry to hear about Boomer going down. Glad to hear he is on the mend. That was a rough weekend!!! I also am 58 years old, and I also went down July 26th, 2008. And I know why I went down. After about 6 hours in the saddle on the Arkansas and Missouri twisting roads I entered a left decreasing radius turn and instead of looking left - I looked at the side of the road straight ahead of me... and drove straight for it. Just like slow motion. Slid the 83 Venture down into the gravel on it's left side, tore a hole in my left elbow and rolled twice. I missed church the next day, as I got home from the ER about 1 AM. No broken bones, sore neck muscles and 6 staples in the elbow. Back at work Monday. To God be the Glory. The bike is now partially disassembled at my hanger and I am learning how to repair cracked fairings... but no damage to the motor or other hard stuff. Last point: Because of the crash, I started looking for answers and I found this club. You all are great and I am very pleased to meet you. Our prayers are with you Boomer!
  25. When starting out slow or just rolling forward, I can hear what sounds like the slight sound of metal rubbing against metal. And as I get faster the sound gets faster. It's not real loud, but loud enough to know it's there. My brakes are good and I see nothing rubbing. And I can only hear it in my rt. ear coming from the rt side. Thanks.
