  1. my friend owns a 86 and he loves it, he asked me a question that i couldnt answer,i told him to join the site and i think that he is going to, thats good, so the question that he asked me is,@ a steady speed of 40 to 45 mph his bike seems to hesitate and sputter a bit, and it does it all the time, does anybody have good advice that could help solve this problem, let me thank you in advance for your help. thank you:thumbsup2:
  2. What is the difference syncing a 1st gen Tour deluxe and a 2nd Gen?? I have a friend who wants me to sync his bike
  3. If you haven't seen this documentary, it is definitely worth a watch. Ewan McGregor and friend travel 18000 miles around the world. Crazy stuff in there.

    83 wow

Went riding with a friend who has a 1500 wing Wednesday and my new to me 83 venture amazed me again. Was merging onto the e-way with my friend right behind me and as I got on the e-way I gave it just a little more throttle and BOOM I was gone. I guess the best way to describe it, it was like opening up a nitrous bottle at 70mph. When we got off the e-way and stopped my friend looks at me and asks, what was that? I'm right with you and then you were just gone. Well on the way back I'm doing about 60 and decide to slowly roll on the throttle and see what it does. Just like before I get to "the sweet spot" and bam shes gone. Revs jumps up, massive power, and shes just flying. Is this how all these 1st gens run? Still grinning ear to ear just thinking about it.
  5. my dad had an MGB GT back in 1974. i think it was around a 1964 or maybe a little later. he sold it to a very good friend of mine in 1974. it was in very good condition at the time and ran perfect. my friend called this morning and asked if i would like to have it back. he won't take any money. it has been sitting in his garage and not started since 1974. i don't think he ever drove it after he brought it home. all he has done is air up the tires. i am trying to decide whether it would be worth making a project out of, or worth the trouble to mess with. i told him to sell it but he insists that i have it cuz it was my dads car. i was thinking about trying to get it running and selling it and giving my friend part of the money. i don't know if i want to tackle a frame off restoration. does anyone know what this may be worth as is, or would anyone be interested in buying it from my friend. he lives in jerseyville illinois. bill ps. i am waiting for his call to verify the year and condition.
  6. Not a position I want to be in for sure! Pete Klassen (TessaC2) is a friend of several of us from this site. You will remember him from PIP twice. On sunday he had a stroke and is now in Saskatoon University Hospital. I have spoken to his wife Hazel and she wanted me to let his buds know about this on the site. The news is not all bad. He is alert and talking just fine. He forgets sometimes where he is. His left side is somewhat paralized but as it stands right now the docs predict a good recovery. Hazel suggested that he will work extra hard to get better as he does not want have to give up biking. Our prayers have already been sent to him and his family personally. I would go up to see him this week but our weather is making such a trip impossible. There is talk that if he is required for a long rehab then Hazel will fight to move him to Calgary where there is the best heart and stroke facility around. I will update if you folks wish. Many thanks to his friend Dale who joined the site just to track me and BigBob down to give us the news.
  7. Ok last one been away had to catch up. I didn't shoot this one a friend did, so it's not in HD This was me and buddy doing a little unrehearsed tune at a tribute we had for a fallen friend at our Local Yamaha shop last summer. my VR buddies Donob11 and Mariner Fan came down and hung out with us that day, so I thought it apporpriate to share her, with my other musician biker friends. 10. Bought my 84 Venture Std in June. A friend who bought one of my Suzuki GSX1100's a year ago bought his 88 Venture Std. in August. We let another friend ride our Ventures and now he has a 88 Royale. I obviously have 5 bikes, 1st friend now has 3 and the 2nd friend has 7! Both friends have VTX1800's too. (They think I should have one too) All 3 Ventures were not running when bought, but they are NOW! I've never had a bike (24 so far) that I've put so many miles on so fast and comfortably.
  11. I KNOW SOME WILL KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS. WILL A STOCK '07 HD TOUR CLASSIC MUFFLER FIT ON AN '07 VENTURE? A friend will give me a set if it will fit. tew47
  12. Friend: You call 'em at 2 am to bail you out and they say "I'll see what I can do in the morning" Good friend: Gets same call and says "I'll be right down with bail". REAL GOOD FRIEND- That's the one sitting next to you saying "Wasn't that fun?"

  14. Hi All, I have finally completed my trip report covering our summer sojourn thru WI, IL, IN, Canada, NY, VT, NH, ME, MA, RI, CN, NY, PA, OH, IN, IL, and of course, WI. Took it with a friend and my father. Enjoyed it immensely. This is a link to the ride report on ADVriders.com. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=363843 RR
  15. Hi All, A friend of a friend is selling his 2001 XVS1100 VSTAR (see pics below) for $2500.00. It has A Harley Headlight and Running Lights, Hard Saddle Bags, Cobra Exhausts, and rear Air Suspension with onboard compressor. It has 6100 miles on it. It is a bit loud for my tastes but Ebay has stock pipes cheap. If anyone knows anything about these bikes, PLEASE let me know, I know very little about the big twins. Thanks for your help, Earl
  16. I know there is one here somewhere. There is one on every forum! I have a strange request for some information. Now, this is not designed to start an oil debate, we all know how those can go. But I do need to find out, if Quaker State, or Pennzoil, have any oils that are compatible with the RSTD. What I mean is anything non-energy conserving, and without friction modifiers. Why specifically QS or Pennzoil? Well, a good friend of mine recently aquired a great job with the company, and can get me FREE OIL!! Whoo Hooo! Problem is, everything I see on the shelf from them, is SJ, or CF which means no good for me and the bike. Anyone here use either? I just need the item name or something to give to him, so he can have someone toss a case in his trunk for me. Thanks for any help. Sonny
  17. Well, went over to SapperMedic's house this afternoon. Seems Mocha has a new ebony friend! A 1986 Venture Royale. Only has 18K miles and everything is intact w/out cracks. Has brand new Dunlop 404s on and had an E1 until I jiggled the wiring. (We'll get that and its buddy very soon) The pinstriping is tastefull and it has a nice set of grips. The intercom functions fairly well. Needs a wire or two chased. He got all the books including a service manual. A bag of spare gaskets and parts, and 2 DOT certified half helmets. The old girl needs SEA FOAM. She came from san Antonio over a year ago and hasn't been run even 200 miles since then. I figure 2 cans and some sporty running. Then fresh plugs, wires and a carbtune. So, look out world - got a bit of 1986 thunder coming out of S.A. And it has a VentureRider bell hung next to the clutch lever. Figured when it got full, a little flick at speed and out go the nasty little critters. JB
  18. Friend just bought 08 Venture. Has around 1500 miles on it now and every time he rides his clutch hand turns black. It only takes about 10 miles of back road riding for this to happen. Getting worse the more miles he puts on. Dealer said he would check with rep about replacement. Friend thought this was not right for just a clutch lever. We think maybe the lever was not sealed (?) or coated correctly from factory. Any thoughts or suggestions. Thanks Gil
  19. Where are the fuses on 2000 V Star located. Friend working on one now and needs to know quick. Lyle
  20. Heading out Sunday early (3)am for Salt Lake City, plan on being there on Monday morning/mid day. A friend who owns a KTM dealership here in Lexington and I are planning on making it under 36 hours. A couple guys from SLC have already offered their hospitality to show me around while my friend attends those boring meetings and such. Will attempt to be online Monday night with results-if my laptop decides to come out of its coma. It went comatose yesterday and is now on life support. At this time plans are to leave either Wednesday night or early Thursday morning for return to Ky. I'm gonna have a blast, been wanting to do this for years and i'm going to go even if I have to ride my Vulcan!
  21. A friend of mine bought an '84 VR and had me take it out for a spin. It's a handful going around a corner or a curve. It wants to jerk rather abruptly when your riding down the road and hit a crown in the road or any wave pavement , like when they grind the pavement for resurfacing the highway.I'm not sure what to tell him. Any ideas? Thanks.
  22. Crazy man the market is crazy. So what is a low mileage first gen 84 model worth? There is 3 answers to that question. 1. Book value would say around $1200 2. Market value ( what people are paying ) is something else. I watched one sell on Ebay last weekend for $3850.00 and bidders fought over it to the end. 3. Personal value. Maybe your scoot has been a faithful friend and it's current value to you is Priceless. No matter which category your thinking falls under one thing is for sure. There bringing twice the price of just a few years ago.:mo money:

    5 Down

Saturday afternoon, 10 bikes heading to a wedding. My friend was to be the best man. The groom was also in the pack. He and my friend were wearing their Tux under their leather ready to strip and say "I do". Many more were supposed to be riding with them including myself but some circumstances out of my control kept me away that day. Anyway, coming off Highway 2 (Trans Canada Hwy) they all took a right turn heading towards the church. Coming the opposite way was a cager with his young daughter. Apperently he was taking to her and not paying much attention to the road and his surrounding. A small curve (if you can even call that) was between the cager and the pack. The car kept going straight through the curve. Nicked the 3rd bike's left mirror and handle bar sending the rider towards the ditch. My buddy was the 4th in line and tried to go around the downed bike but the car never corrected his path of travel and kept coming across the center line hiting my friend on the left side with his bumper. He ended up with a borken leg in 2 places, broken arm and nose. Hiting my friend sent the car in a uncontroled spin which caused him to take 2 more bikes out. The second last rider laid her bike down and suffered only scratches and road rash. The last in line had enough time to see it all and took the the left lane and missed the whole crash by inches. All 5 down riders were taken to hospital. 1 was treated and released within hours. 1 was kept on observation with some minor fractures and has since been released. The other 3 including my friend, the groom and 1 other were kept in ICU until this morning. They are now listed as stable. All 3 have internal injuries with many broken bones. One has lost part of his foot which was amputated yesterday. My friend has 2 pins in his left leg and arm. All were members of the 2nd CAV (Canadian Army Veterans). Charges are pending on the car driver. I am just glad no one had major head injuries. I guess what my have saved them is the fact they were coming off a major Hwy exit and were just starting to pick up speed while the car was heading towards an exit and likely slowing down Down in the crash were 1 GoldWing, 2 Harleys and 2 Stars.

  25. Just got the news today of the passing of a dear friend .Frank Flickinger's grandson called to let us know he passed away Sunday August 3 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was from Osceola, Iowa. Some of you may know him from the many rallies he attended wearing the colorful T-shirts that read My son is Vice President of Harley Davidson but I ride a Yamaha. Frank was very friendly and loved to talk about motorcycles. He never met a stranger. May you rest in peace my friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time. Allen & Patti
