  1. Here is the deal, I have tried everything I can think of and still cannot get the front left cylinder (number 2, I think) to fire. Here is what I have done so far: 1. changed the wires 2. changed the plug 3. swapped the coil with known good 4. drained the bowl and verified that there is fuel flow 5. checked/cleaned connectors from the TCI 6. cleaned every connector that I could find. 7. Cleaned the carbs. *I have not re-synced them (would that cause one cylinder not to fire?) The other three cylinders are running fine. I just am not sure where else to look. Everything appears to be in order....the way I verify that cylinder one is not firing, is the water test. I let the bike idle to normal operating temp and then spray water on all 4 exhausts. All of them evaporate instantly except the fron left. It just runs down the tube and evaporartes as it goes. The tube gets hot, but not nearly as hot as the other three. Please help.....
  2. On the '83 when you try to start it cold, and set the choke lever to full on, it will not fire....ever.. unless I start to gradually reduce the choke setting while cranking. Then about half way off it fires but stumbles, and I need to go back up to full on to keep it running. I can also not give it any choke, and it'll fire right off the git-go, but need to give it full choke quick to keep it running. After it's runing with full on choke it only idles around 1500 rpm, but as it warms up it steadly increases to 3000rpm maybe more??. When it gets to 3 grand I start cutting back on the choke until it's around 2000rpm and then the r's will continue to climb back up to 3 as it get's even warmer. After about three of these 'adjustments' I can back the choke all the way off and it will idle at a 1000rpm. I've been living with this for a couple of years now. It's not something that causes any worry. When warm the bike starts and runs great. All diaphragms are perefect. Recent plugs and carb sync. Any ideas????
  3. My wife, Denise called me at work today to let me know the computer was on fire. I told her to unplug the tower and grab the fire extinguisher. Came home, opened the case and sure enough the circuit board is fried, scorched or melted almost everything inside. I was lucky Denise was home or Lord knows what may have also caught fire. So what desk top/ laptop computer do you guys and gals think I should buy for a replacement? I had a dell dimension 2400 running XP which had been upgraded a couple of times with more ram etc. I am now using the OLD HP windows 98 I gathered back from the attic to ask this question and it is super slooooow!! I even have to use internet explorer because it can't handle Moxzilla of Flock browsers. Any computer sales right now? Dave
  4. okay, almost last call. who all is going to be at the pro bass meet and eat in springfield, mo. next sat. jan. 24th? linda and i will be there early to shop, but we will be in the lobby at noon by the big fire place. let me know if you are coming for sure. i will be wearing a red goldwing ballcap. bill
  5. Well, I got my Carbtune over the holidays and we had a really nice riding day last week. So I decided pull out the skoot, warm it up, sync the carbs and go for a ride. Alas, when I went to start it ...nothing. It would crank but not fire. I finally got one cylinder to fire so it would idle for a few seconds but that was it. I had bought a new battery in October, so I put it in just to make sure, but it cranks fine with about 12-12.5v during cranking. When I parked it last I had put Sea Foam in the tank, filled it up and rode it home to park it; that was about November 1. I'm hoping that the cursed 10% ethanol in MO isn't rearing it head, but that's what I suspect. Any thoughts? I'll load it up in the trailer and head over to the Yammy dealer to see what they think.
  6. i bought the bike used in June and it had some back fire to it sounded kinda cool at the time but now it is really starting to gett on my nerves. the bike has had new pipes put on it. so is it the pipes having to much back pressure, do i need to remap, carb snyc or just adjust it till it goes away? any help would be great.
  7. Hello I found this site about a week ago hide in weeds reading everything. I seems to be a lot a people with good answers to tech questions so I have one. I bought a 2005 RSV in July, just getting back into riding really missed it. Put on about 5500 miles this summer. Now my problem, it will back fire out of left side when I get off the gas. I have had it to a dealer and of course it would not do it. They adjusted carb no help I am lost it still has great performance and fuel mileage. I can live with it but it makes the bike sound cheap when it does it and I don't want that. Any ideas? The other thing I read somewhere in here about a fix for squealing brakes cant find it back. Thanks for any help.Great site.
  8. A great BIG thank you goes out to Black Owl!! Gary's is putting new seals on my front shocks and Russell was kind enough to help him out over the phone last night. He got them all apart and cleaned and was just starting to put them back together when he got a fire call, so he'll finish them up tonight. This is a great site and the people on here are the best. Thanks again Russell! :bighug:We both really appreciate it!!
  9. I'm trying to get the dealership to fix my radio on my 07 RSV. Yamaha says it's a Clairion problem, the dealer can't seem to get a response from Clairion, so I want to call Yamaha Corp. and see if I can get a fire lit under them. Does anyone have the phone number to Yamaha Corp. and maybe a name of someone that I might be able to talk to?
  10. Called and checked. DonH. (TxVenture) has a few tree limbs off and still has power. Said the internet was working. Cable out all except the shopping channels. DonC. is good. Has a small hole in the roof from a pine tree lim. Said about 3 gallons of water, nothing to really worry about. Kbay lost a couple flags and his ornamental windmill is over. He has relatives in from Galveston. Including some horses. Said the fire pager only had one call last night. Didn't get an answer from Mavrick, but he is outside the main area towards Dallas. Rattlesnake evacuated out of Refugio about Wednesday. Put his bikes in the fire station. Didn't try Hipshot. San Antonio has about 4000 refugees in so far. Houson got its backside kicked pretty good. Galveston may be fairly flat. San Antonio is sunny, breezy and about 75-80 this morning. JB
  11. Ok guys got tank cleaned out of my 84 with seafoam and i was able to get the 2 left bowls to drain added fresh gas and got no fire. I checked sparkplugs to see if i had fire and nope not there either. Starter turns over fine no dragging. I want to note that i have no display in neutral all the bells and whistles work in 1st and 2nd but nothing in neutral I am wondering if this may be my problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Guys, David:Avatars_Gee_George:
  12. I hope everyone that is close to the fires around Big Sur and area are doing well and are all safe . I was looking at the Nepenthe Restaurant in Big Sur webcam today and it looks soo smoky. I hope the fire isnt destroying all that gorgeous park area all up and down the coast. Brian
  13. Hey All, I wanted to take a minute and let you folks know of a memorial ceremony that will be held for Mark Still (AKA Mean Dog) in New Manchester WV on June 29th. This will be held at the New Manchester Volunteer Fire Dept. between 12 noon and 2 pm. I have talked with Nancy and Lonna has also talked with Marks daughter, Missy. They would love for as many of you that can attend to come over and spend the afternoon with them. This will be the Sunday that Skid's ride in ends, so it would be real nice if folks that were already in the area could stop in. I am planning on being there after the Skid in and if anyone would be interested in a group ride heading north from Jeff's place in Gassaway. It's about 175 miles from Jeff's place up in the north handle of the state, this is where Marks family is located. Looking forward to seeing as many VR members as I can, Nancy and the family would greatly appreciate it also. Here's the complete address to the Fire station... New Manchester Volunteer Fire Dept. 193 High Street New Manchester WV. 26056 http://www.nmvfd.org/default.asp I am having a bit of problems mapquesting it out, but will contact the fire dept for more precice directions.
  14. Man it's smoky. Caugh...caugh...hack!! Nor-Cal is on fire. Last report I heard we have 800 fires going.... and the smoke is everywhere. The sun looks like a big ol' harvest moon. Wish a breeze would kick up and blow this stuff out of the area. Tomorrow morning I'm leaving for ID for a couple of days, and looking forward to breathing clean air.... FIRE MAP
  15. Ok everyone....Maintenance day is only about a month away. All I want to know is..who wants cheesecake, and what kind do ya'll want this year? Put your bids in now, so I know what to get from the store. If you don't request it...it wont be made! So, fire away!
  16. Had Buds pipes put on . My 2006 RSV Should it ( Back fire? When slowing down going though the gears.
  17. I am new to this site but find it a wealth of information. Thanks to all Here's my poblem I recently got a 1983 Venture I posted the Vin# here last week and I think it is the first off the line. but thats not my problem. when I got it it had set for about 3 years. It runs OK and looks good but after my inspection I decovered no brakes on the rear. so I ordered a rear master cylinder and last night rebuilt the master. all went well lines bleed out and now have good brakes. I thought while it is in the shop I should change the oil and filters at the same time. I drove the bike in the shop it started and run good. after I changed the oil it would not fire up. It turns over good, it's getting gas I though that it may be a stuck switch so I traced all the wires to the switches sidestand, clutch, neutral switch even the emergency stop switch all check out and still no fire I removed all the fairing and checked the wiring to the TCI module all looked ok to but just no spark. as a way to test the TCI module i removed the Kill wire black/white stripe wire check power in and ground all ok . with the kill line off the bike should fire up and run. No luck on fire. It looks like the TCI module just went bad but before I spend $900 on a new TCI mod I would like to here for some of you. Is their a way to test the TCI mod to be sure if it is ok or not. Is their something that I am missing that will keep it from starting As I said it turns over ok just no spark. but i drove it in the shop any comments you have would be welcomed I need to order the TCI module before Tuesday to have it by the end of the week. Thanks for the input
  18. I have been looking at some on ebay. Most are either single or dual fire. If one of the two would work on a venture, which one would it be?
  19. If anyone remembers the Smokehouse Grill in Millbrook where we had an M&E a short time back, it burned. They had a kitchen fire that kind of took over and it took the fire dept 40 minutes to put the fire out. Too bad, they had good food and large accomodations for groups.
  20. Looks like the Tail of The Dragon is on fire today. Blamed on a MC crash. That's just what the Tenn Highway Patrol need more reason to shut it down. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,351600,00.html
  21. This is a very short video...please watch - it is amazing. I never realized that a wet dishcloth can be a one size fits all lid to cover a fire in a pan! This is a dramatic video (30-second, very short) about how to deal with a common kitchen fire ... oil in a frying pan. Read the following introduction, then watch the show .. It's a real eye-opener!! At the Fire Fighting Training school they would demonstrate this with a deep fat fryer set on the fire field. An instructor would don a fire suit and using an 8 oz cup at the end of a 10 foot pole toss water onto the grease fire. The results got the attention of the students. The water, being heavier than oil, sinks to the bottom where it instantly become superheated. The explosive force of the steam blows the burning oil up and out. On the open field, it became a thirty foot high fireball that resembled a nuclear blast. Inside the confines of a kitchen, the fire ball hits the ceiling and fills the entire room. Also, do not throw sugar or flour on a grease fire. One cup creates the explosive force of two sticks of dynamite. http://randsco.com/index.php/2007/05/30/p442
  22. I just received this from a friend in Utah, and thought it worth sharing with everyone: Hi, Terry! This is a video worth watching. Tell your whole family about this video. Or better yet, send this to them. Dana Terry

    vest pin

We have been purchasing pins or stickers on our destination trips. One of my wifes has had the pin break flush with the back of it. Anyone have a sure fire way of reattaching it? It can't be heated or it will ruin it. Ice & Boredom.
  24. Well, here are the pics of the fire. Not much left and a lot of damage to clean up. However, the family is ok, vehicles are good, and bikes are just a bit dirty. A great loss for Ron and his family. However, he has a positive attitude and will come out on top. JB
