  1. Finally getting started on the conversion. Started yesterday evening about 7PM or so. http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/oo265/kj5ix/01%20Venture/claenbeforestarting.jpg http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/oo265/kj5ix/01%20Venture/teardown.jpg http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/oo265/kj5ix/01%20Venture/teardown2.jpg At 9:45 tonight this is what I have done so far....... http://i382.photobucket.com/albums/oo265/kj5ix/01%20Venture/itsaTrike.jpg
  2. Tried out the new to me Tour Deluxe this weekend and took my lovely wife up to the top of the peak foliage world (which is the Balsam overlook on the BRP in these parts at this time of year) 350 mile day, perfect weather and my best girl finally able to see some of the stuff that I have only seen without her. The Route: From just outside Atlanta, U.S. 23 (I-985) north to just outside Sylva N.C. picked up the BRP and went out to the Inn at Mt. Pisgah then backtracked back to US 276 to Brevard, NC (Great road!) then U.S. 64 from Brevard to Highlands, N.C. finally N.C 106 (Dillard Road) back to U.S. 23 and home. She took several hundred pictures, here are some of the ones I liked best. Especially the little dog tied to the Goldwing. http://s275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/BRP%20Run%20Oct%202010/
  3. Finally got my trike finished.I'll try to get pics uploaded.
  4. AHHHHH! Finally got back on my scoot today after not riding since early Aug because of all the eye issues I have been having. Since the end of June Ive had 3 eye operations on my left eye because of retina tearing and scarring, but I think things have finally turned the corner today when I got the ok from the surgeon to go back to work 1/2 days next week and to finally take my scoot for a spin. It felt so good! The temp was about 80f and bright sunshine and a great day for a ride. The bike ran pretty ruff right off the bat but i poured some more seafoam in and went for a cruise out thru town and out on the hiway to shake out the stale fuel and finally after about 30 minutes things started to run better. it was great!!!! its the Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend and the weather forecast is looking great so I will get a chance to finally put some miles on! Brian .
  5. I know, I haven't been on in awhile, but wanted to say "hi". Was waiting for my company to implode and finally got my permanent lay off date and held them to it. The girlfriend is happy because I was finally able to move because of the lay off. Just need to settle in to the new apartment , which we can't move into until the end of September. Had to sell the bike for some buffer zone money, but will be keeping my eyes open once I find a job or two. Figured I should pop in and let people know i was still around. Been in South Carolina for about 2 weeks now and really like it so far, still feel a little geographically lost, but half the fun is exploring.
  6. I am officially employed again, as of Monday morning. My former employer had to dramatically downsize last year, and I had worked hard at eliminating my own position as I was to be promoted to General Manager. To try to struggle through, they had to cut very deep, and unfortunately I had to go. It was a sound business decision that I would have made the same way myself - their doors are still open but they are struggling. Time will tell. Regardless, as the automotive business all over tanked last year, there were many, many supplier shops here in southern Ontario which also closed, making the job market exceptionally tight for all. I dedicated 3-4 hrs every morning to just my job search : researching companies, tracking down contacts, cold calling, etc... and now finally, after 11 long months, I am joining another progressive automotive parts manufacturer in a position that I will enjoy. I had an interview Thursday afternoon, and I had a firm offer in under 24 hours, and I start Monday. I know there are quite a few members on here looking, and all I can say is do not give up. It's hard and certainly frustrating but things do come through eventually.
  7. Redneck Bike Washin' , Finally Rained , Finally cooled off, Priceless, Does it matter , ??? Time to wash the bike after 7 weeks of road grime. Got to join 100+ bikes tomorrow to lead in the worlds largest truck parade in Waupun, WI . It's also a fund raiser for Make A Wish. Hopefully I can post another pic of 4 local Ventures with our ABATE group tomorrow night. And it's finally cooled off a bit after 2 weeks of killer heat, for our neck of the woods anyways. So here we are after a few cocktails, with the bike out in the rain, and a soapy rag, .... Savin' on the city water bill, PRICELESS ! Later, Scooter Bob and Karen
  8. i picked up this awesome first gen from a friend in tenn. it belonged to his father n law who made 5 trips on it b4 he found out he had cancer and couldnt ride any more so he put it in a garage for about 12 years and his daughter finally got tired of looking at it so they sold it to me took alot of work but now it runs like new and im too short back it up so i really need to sell it it has everything you could have on a bike except reverse
  9. You think they finally went away....Senior vs. Junior http://tlc.discovery.com/tv/american-chopper/
  10. I'm gonna be a Dad! We're Pregnant!
  11. I just dont seem to be having any luck this year. I finally got the new brakes working. Talk about a nightmare but we wont get into that. The bike has been in the air for about 3 weeks now while I change the rear diff, Rear shock to a Works and add the R1 brakes. Finally I got to test drive it tonight and barely made it down the block and there is a hell of a rattle and rubbing noise under the stator cover. Now it came on all of a sudden and I dont have a explaination. Last year I added a High output stator but that was a year ago. I havent taken off the cover yet so Im just looking for some Ideas and things to look for. PS if I put a screwdriver against that cover I can actually feel the hitting. What do you think?
  12. Been working on this since Oct 09, Finally ready to try out on road-maybe tomorrow. Didn't take before pic, but was busted up plastic all black like bags. Still need to paint bags to match rest of plastic. I can see small problems with my paint job, but for most part I think it looks great. Anyone have a right hand dash vent that I am missing?
  13. That 2 wheel combo removal system works pretty slick; thanks to the guy who posted this idea years ago; I finally got a chance to try it out with 2 new tires going on today.
  14. Well I finally got my seat to a ride able condition. I found a local gal who reworks/rebuilds seats. Took several attempts. Cost me $$$. While it ain't perfect it's doable till something better comes along. I even demoed an EG Ultra thinking that the bike was somehow playing a part. While I liked the HD, I'm glad I didn't have to part with that much money for a touring bike. I still had tailbone issues on it as well. Hoping to leave for Milwaukee on the 21st this month.
  15. Well, it actually took me about 5-6 hours, but the end result is very nice. I installed a set of new old-stock Road King mufflers on my 98 RSTC2. The hardest part was making my brackets, but I got to use my new wire-feed welder, Ye-ha. Sound is much better than the drilled out stock mufflers. BTW, I didn't drill them out, they were already that way when I bought the bike. They sounded terrible. Getting the new mufflers to slide over the exhaust pipe was a real pain, with lots of grinding and filing, but finally got it. Thanks to all for the information and pics.
  16. Well he finally made it back to his base. We dropped him off at the airport on sunday. Actually we pretty much threw him out of the truck said a quick goodbye and left. It was a bit of a mad house at the Atlanta airport. So he got to Dubai then had to fly to Kuwait. Some new policy after I made his reservations that said they have to go and come from Kuwait. I figured out why after he got there. You have to pay 15 for a visa and then some more for a few other things. Seems they have a racket going. Anyway then he had to get to Kandahar. That took a bit of time then he got stuck in Kandahar. Finally got to shindand yesterday, but I heard from him today which is their tomorrow. Anyway, he finally made it there. He has 54 days to go. 50 till he leaves Afghanistan then 4 in Kuwait or something like that. Then he heads to Atlanta again and takes their transport back to Benning. After he gets done with that he's mine again. Hopefully the last bit of time will go fast. I guess I should figure out where to get a clock to countdown the days and add it to my signature. Margaret
  17. sorry it took so long. Its been a long week back at work. http://s569.photobucket.com/albums/ss133/painterman6709/2010%20MD%20and%20%20blue%20ridge%20%20parkway%20ride/?start=0 David
  18. finally got pic's of my custom nomad project. hope this works
  19. Don finally let me drive the bike, on the way home, pulling the trailer. Woo Hoo!! I actually got it out of 3rd gear. Actually, I got it in 4th AND 5th gear and got it up to 66 mph. Wow! It felt great (after a few minutes of stomach churning and nerves going over the edge). Then there was Don riding behind me and telling me how uncomfortable the passenger seat was. I also didn't realize how much heat comes off the engine on my legs. Will definitely wear long pants and shoes next time I drive. I drove it the last 30 miles to our house and it was quite an experience. I can't wait to drive it to work now...but Don says I have to have more experience before he will let me take it on the highway, which is how I go to work. Will post update when that happens. Anyway..I am in awe of all you female drivers out there. This is great! I was thinking I would just drive it "in case" something happened...but maybe I will look at some bikes. Hmmmmm....
  20. Ok I finally got some time to shrink these and upload them. Big thanks to Don and his beautiful gal.. for letting us invade your space. I loved touching base with old friends and making new ones. Already looking forward to next year. Wayne The last one is specially for BIG TOM.. That's CANADIAN ICE CREAM!! Now that you finally have your passport you have to come and get some...
  21. Had to change to head light this afternoon. tryed the handle bar system. turned to right. un pluged, turned rubber cap 180 degrees, popped off, popped the clib, and the bulb felt out. Hell that was easy. go buy a new bulb. 2-1/2 hours later of screeeeaaaaming, and using words not known in my house. I finally got it back together. My hands are swollen, I have cuts all over the place. next time, the shop can do it.
  22. Finally got some warm enough weather to ride up the canyon last week. Between the cold and rain it's been tough to get a long ride in. Here's a pic at 8735 ft
  23. Well it fianlly happened, second gear has been popping out, well when I left for work this morning went to shift into third gear and it wouldnt go in, downshifted to second, no problem, down to first no problem, went back up through the gears, still will not go into third, had to turn around and get the other scoot out to go to work, glad it didnt happen after I got halfway there. I have been knowing I needed the split washer fix, well now looks like I am forced into it, thank goodness I have the other bike to ride, the bummer is finally got everything working right on the 1st gen, and this happens, guess I will start tearing it down either this weekend or next. I will have to go back and find that excellent tech article about doing "The Fix". At least this is the last thing that needs to be done to make her good again!!! Got to get some help over to pull the engine out, maybe I can get 86er and Wingman to help in that area, maybe between the 3 of us we can geterdone.
  24. I was riding yesterday, on a wet roadway (It Had just rained), I was following other riders, and had a few behind me, I was entering the Florida turnpike, and was on the inside of a clover leaf, turn, turning to the right, I started to lean alittle on the turn, and the back end felt like it was sliding, Now I have a Metzler 880 180 on the rear. as I came out of the turn, and started to roll on to the trottle, the bike didn't pick up speed, all the other bikes started to pass me. it finally got up to 65, now last in line, and the bike felt squarely (?)(Please don't fell me its the Friggen Rear end again) I'm going to drop the rear end oil, and check for shavings.
  25. I bought my Venture last fall and the front tire was getting worn out. He had replaced the back tire with a stock 404 just before I purchased it. I finally got around to getting a new front tire and wow - what a difference in handling! Almost as good as installing the links.
